❖ ❖ ❖
LET THE GAMES BEGIN.

Seagulls and sunshine, what more could someone ask for?

Suika stuck her tongue out, arms thrown to the side. A bit of rain might be nice! The past few days had been burning out, and she was ready for a bit of cloud over. Though... apparently her troops were not. Giving out a shout as two kids zoomed by her, arms outstretched into mock-wings, Suika sighed, her long blond hair slapped restless over a bare shoulder. The sound of the group reached her ears. Horses bucking and galloping down the length of beach, sand and salt water on their hooves and cheering gypsies on their backs. The lady had been with her old friends for a long time - over a few months now - and she was finally ready to head back home. But today, the sea breeze and booming waves were enough to keep her in place. At least for today. Dropping down the sandy slopes to the beach, legs grazed already with sun touched flecks, the nomadic girl twisted her lips at the slight sting of heat.

Sweat dappled the back of her neck, sliding down the bare back and over the strap that held her bikini top in place. Thumbs hooking in the matching bottom, the blond danced a ways down the beach into the sweet, clear surf. As it ran lazily over her feet, Suika gave a sigh of satisfaction. But the heat was still blistering! Padding along, the girl broke from a walk into a run, soon racing herself along the beach edge, children following her with hoots and hollers for a breathless few minutes before breaking off to yell and scream at each other to build sand forts and play kings and queens. Continuing to run, the girl raised her hands up, yelling soundlessly. If ever her parents found her like this, they might just disown her to save themselves the embarrassment.

Finally sliding to a stop, Suika gave a sharp hoot, hands on her knees as she ducked her head to peer back at the figures in the distance. Pulling at the straps that went around her neck, Suika straightened, admiring the beach and the rock formations that withstood the waves as they pounded up against the shore. Salty tang brushed through her hair, her tanned tummy expanding as she inhaled deeply taking in the sounds. This was life! But still... The girl harumphed as her eyes flickered open, staring up at the bright blue of the sky.

"Is it a little too much to ask for a bit of rain?!"
She shouted up at it, her arms outstretched, her face indignant. She was greeted with bright sunlight and the shouts of children charging into the salty waves, discarding clothes along their quick sprint races to the beach edge.

"If you want rain,"
An easy voice cut in, melodic and firm, "you'd be better off trying south of here. Storms travelin' there."

Suika jumped and turned, her startled eyes catching sight of the most peculiar person she'd ever seen. Storm gray hair flew wild in its ponytail, pressed back by the salt tang. Large, dual colored eyes gazed over the girl, who pulled habitually at the halter bikini's strings. A half kimono's sleeves were both empty, falling back over a thin waist and an even thinner pair of legs. This boy looked almost feminine, but even more so then that, malnourished. But he was vivid with life, the girl could tell. His wind blown hair framed a heart shaped face, his arms loose over his knees, feet situated on the large rock that stood strong against the tide.

"Lucky guess?"
She asked with playful skepticism, hands on her hips.

The stranger closed his eyes, shoulders loose of tension.
"No." He murmured, smiling at her as he re-opened them. "Wind smells thick with rain heading that way." Running a hand through his thick locks, the boy gave a slight nod down the way Suika had been coming. "Big storm though, it may not be the weather you're hoping for."

Suika gave a slight air of disbelief, her eyebrows creasing into a fine frown.
"What are you, the weatherman?" The blond asked wryly, green eyes sparking with amusement. For a few moments, the stranger stayed silent, just peering back at the sky. Twisting a lock in her fingers, Suika pressed her tongue between her two front teeth, chewing for a moment before walking forward, her sandy feet scrambling over the smooth, wet surface of the rock and up next to the boy. Plopping down next to him, she was quick to take up the sudden red stain on his cheeks, his eyes darting away to the endless ocean. Ohoho! So he was like that, huh? Cute! Dont worry, junior, She thought, placing her legs into a criss cross applesauce position, you're too young for me.

"I'm not a weatherman,"
He finally said, glancing over at her. His dual eyes were everywhere but her chest. Suika giggled. "I'm actually not sure who I am." He admitted with a sheepish smile, reminding Suika of an old friend. Her eyes softened somewhat. Though hold on -- what?

"Not sure who you are?"

Suika was many things, but smooth was not one of them.

"Mm."
The boy looked out at the ocean again, fingers rubbing at the blush. "Well, sort of. I woke up a few days ago in a town to the north." There was that sheepish smile again. "I have... bits and pieces, but I cant remember much before waking up. I know... my name, a-and shards of other things." He let his open palms catch the wind, and Suika found herself fascinated. "But I remember the rain. And a man named Lan. A floating city and - and people. A girl with pink hair, a boy who I loved like a brother." Realizing he'd all but babbled, the stranger colored again, rubbing hastily at his cheeks and eyes. "S-sorry," He said, offering an apologetic look. "I kind of lost the filter between my brain and my mouth too." His wry, almost witty tone made Suika feel at home. But --

Lan.

Why did that name sound so familiar...?

Rubbing the back of her head, Suika gave a loud yawn.
"Sounds like a pain," She said finally, as the strangers eyes drifted back out to the ocean. "Have anyone with you at least?" She asked, wondering how the other had come from a town north to somewhere like here. This beach was far from civilization -- she of all people would know. Given a mute no, Suika frowned. "How old are you?" The boy gave her a charming, yet useless apologetic smile. "Money...?" His face fell blank. Suika gave a puff of cheeks, thinking hard for a few minutes. Seagulls cried overhead, the ocean roaring as it dragged playful gypsies out to sea.

Finally, the nomadic blond sighed. A hand found the storm gray hair, running fingers through the silky strands. Suika's face tried hard to stay indifferent, but it was so... smooth! She would kill to have such nice hair. Her own blond strands flew lazily in the salty sea breeze.
"Tell ya what." She chimed languidly. "I've got an extra horse and 'm gonna be heading towards Aimes soon. Aimes is the floating city you remember." She couldn't help but laugh out at that beautiful blush. "You come with me, provided you help me out and earn your 'keep.' And I'll help you find out where you came from. I mean, it cant be far can it? You're only a kid."

"I'm not a kid!"

The outburst threatened to make Suika keel over laughing. Terribly red, the boy gently raised his hand, fingers tentatively brushing against the fingers that grazed his hair.
"You're serious, miss?" He asked softly, his voice laced with disbelief. "I - I mean, not to be rude, but I haven't..."

The girl grinned, her hand flapping as she cut him off.
"I know, I know. Met some'un like me. Heard it already." She wrapped her hand around his shoulders, pulling the strange rain cloud to her. "I dont say what I dont mean, kiddo. Take it or leave it."

The boy gave a slight strangled sound, the heat radiating off of him in waves. The blond couldn't help but giggle, her eyes lighting with mirth.
"I - if thats alright with you, miss. I'd love to." He said, his tone full of embarrassment and underlying happiness.

Suika grinned, taking her arm off of him and instead sticking out a hand.
"Suika, none of this 'miss' stuff." She said simply, her eyes sparking.

The storm looked back at her, feeling at home for the first time in a long time.
"Krinn." He murmured finally, his fingers twining around hers and giving a firm shake.

Suika didn't know how this had happened, or what she'd gotten herself into. But what was the worst that could happen?

❖ ❖ ❖
LOADED WORDS ARE LOADED GUNS.

Its a b***h, Suika decides that evening, to ever try and explain her reasoning to others.

Just like the boy had said, the air is wet with moist, heavy and thick with rain, but not where they were. Its hot and humid, and on a normal occasion, it would have driven the nomadic woman insane. Instead, she is distracted. She is almost always distracted though. The teen she has taken in is fast asleep in one of the younger gypsies trailers, having been persuaded by the group of children to spend his time with them. He'd carefully picked his way through a few meals under the ever concerned gaze of one of their loving chef's, who'd insisted - demanded - that he eat his fair share. It was cute, Suika thinks, just how accepting the travelers seem to be of kin not quite like everyone else. Or at least... most of them.

Suika leans back against the caravans side, feeling engravings dig into her back. The blond is not alone. She can feel a stare digging into her shoulder. Exhale, inhale. This is going to drive her crazy, but she will make it through. She has to. Always, you have to. The words breathe life into her determination and the blond stays put and undaunted. Even by her best friend. Quietly though, in a private part of her mind, Suika wonders why she did it, why she offered for this stranger to come along with her. Krinn was it? Yes, Krinn. Cutie. But... mysterious. She knew nothing of the child. Nothing. That could either be an adventure to find out, or... or a danger. Suika gives a sigh, blowing blond, sticky strands out of her face.

"So... tell me why again?"

Oh, this is just one big ball of awkward. Suika gives a growl. No more, her mind yells. Let me sleep!

"Oh come on! He looked so -- so miserable, I couldn't just leave him!"

Suika is very much a defiant girl. She wills herself to stare the gypsy in the eye, his dark eyes reflecting her brilliant green hues. He just has to be so right all the time, and Suika waits for the day when she'll finally win an argument. Flipping a blond ponytail over her shoulder, she shrugs, offering her hands to the mare that is now padding up, ears ticked forward, nose sniffing and searching her body for treats. Giggling, Suika pressed her fingers to the horses neck, whispering sweet nothings in the creatures ears. She is distracted for a moment, but brought back to earth by a hand on her shoulder.

"I'm just worried."
He says in that obnoxious, 'I know more then you do' tone. Suika refuses to roll her eyes, and instead reaches over to toy with his milk chocolate locks. He wrinkles his nose, he does not like things in his hair that have just been under a horses mouth. He does not say anything about it though, instead simply leaning in to the touch. "You dont know this boy. He could hurt you."

Suika rolls her eyes. Ridiculous! She's the one being treated like a child now!
"I'll be fine. Anyways, you saw him -- he couldn't harm a fly! The children love him too." She kissed the gypsy's forehead, his dark skin glistening with salt water. "They only love people who they can beat up." She grins, whispering, "and they aren't that strong, you know."

The gypsy laughs, and Suika finds herself smiling. Success? Maybe? She can still see concern though, and her gut coils and twists with a bit of unhappiness. Why doesn't he trust her?
You act like a child! Her eyes flicker. You need to grow up, this is the real world, and you're in it. The blond sighs and leans back her hands reaching down to twine with his.

"Just trust me,"
She begs him, her eyes gentle and soft. "Just this once, please. I know what I'm doing, even if it doesn't look like it."

His eyes glaze over, and she counts the seconds they hold their resilience in them. One, two, three, four, five, six, six and a half, seven, seven and a quarter, seven and...

"Fine,"
He breathes in resignation. "Just... be safe, alright? I dont trust you on the road alone. Especially with a stranger."

Suika smiles and kisses his hands. He's not convinced, she knows. But its a start. She's not a child anymore, and the gypsy is still busy trying to figure that out. Pulling at his hands, the blond turns to lead them away into the night. No more words need to be said.

Not tonight.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxLET THIS NEW LIFE OFFER BE YOUR SAVING GRACE.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxLet this old life crumble, let it fade, let it fade.

❖ ❖ ❖
LET THE GAMES BEGIN.

Day One.

"So just... jump?"

The uncertain voice was too cute. Suika laughed out, giving the boy a big pat on the back.
"Just get up there!" She hooted. When he gave her a look of ill ease, the girl rolled her eyes, walked over, and placed her hands around his middle, hoisting him into the air with a yell of protest from the younger of the two.

"Hey, hey, hey!"

Krinn was... enjoying life. In the most odd, and out of place ways. Coloring vividly as he felt the girls chest digging into his lower back, the boy pressed his hands to the smooth leather. He remembered Suika telling him to just... fling his leg over, right? As she loosened her grip, he forced one appendage over, his body easing into the new position and the new height with a bit of nervousness. However, it felt almost homely. Almost. "Good!" Suika cheered, before she backed up, whistling as she stuck a foot in her own stirrup, hoisting herself with ease into the saddle of Daina, the caramel colored horse with white socks. Krinn shifted in his own seat, his fingers fumbling with the reins to a dapple grey gelding, his ears twitching as he turned his head, snorting to his new rider.

"Easy..."
He murmured under his breath, the word feeling familiar on his lips. Suika's horse padded up next to him, tail batting against Krinn's leg as if to wake him up from his daze.

"You look at home."
Suika said with a grin. "I bet you've ridden before, huh?" She reached over, stretching her fingers over the grey coat. "Now, lets see what you can do. Can't stay stationary forever!" Tugging a bit at her own reins, she backed up a bit. Krinn's look was priceless; a mix of fear and excitement, happiness and nervousness. "Dont hold on too tight, or Hugo wont enjoy it." She said, and Krinn opened her mouth, about to ask 'hold on why?' He found out a few seconds later when Suika gave the dapple grey what she considered a love tap to the rump. Of course, it sounded almost like a gunshot. The rain all but screamed as Hugo reared before shooting off across the stretch of green grass, dappled with sand by the beach nearby. He fought to keep his feet in the stirrups, his mind haywire for a few minutes as the gelding continued to canter across the land, snorting and shaking his head a few times as Krinn held desperately to the reins. From somewhere, he could hear Suika laughing, but he was too busy holding on to pay attention to where it was coming from.

It took a few minutes for the lady to catch up with the runaway gelding, her fingers reaching out to catch the reins lightly and pull them both to a stop. Hooting with laughter, she and Daina both made noise, whether of happiness or something else Krinn couldn't figure out.
"Look't that! Most people fall off their first time!" She said, rubbing Hugo's neck and peering with amusement at Krinn. "Of course, you forgot about the important art of steering though. But we'll get to that later, I suppose." She said with a grin, watching the boy take in fresh gasps of air. For a moment, she just waited until he seemed calm again, and then slapped a hand to his back, causing the stormy haired boy to sputter. "How'd it feel?" She asked with good nature.

Krinn gave her a sheepish smile, rubbing his own fingers along the dapple grey flank.
"Wonderful, really." He murmured. "It feels familiar. I... can I try it again?" He asked sheepishly. The dust felt as though he'd been in the saddle before. He'd ridden before. An old man's voice twisted into his head, sounds bouncing off of his mind and bringing forth questions. Broken images of a stable, of horses, of himself came to mind. But before he could catch onto them, Suika was talking again.

"Of course, but lets start out a bit... quieter this time."
She said with a giggle. "If you want to ask Hugo to go, you know the drill. I've run you through it already, yeah? And heels down!" Pulling on the reins, she led Daina away, down towards the sandy slopes towards the beach. Krinn watched her for a few minutes, even as she pressed her own caramel colored horse into a canter, easing across the stretch of sand and into the surf, joined by a dark haired gypsy he'd never been introduced to. Giving a slight puff, Krinn tugged at the reins, turning the horse around and staring at the flat expanse of grassland that stretched away from the beach. In the distance, he could hear children screaming and yelling at one another, gypsies humming as they started on lunch. Hugo snorted from under him, tail swishing back and forth.

Shaking his head, Krinn nudged the horse into an easy trot, feeling at ease in the saddle as he passed across the plains, eyes closing as he remembered the flighty feeling. "You're a natural," a voice said. "Good, like that!" another cheered from out of nowhere. An old man and a young adult came to mind, but their names were just out of his reach. Smiling a bit though, at the memory of a palomino eating out his hands on a hot summer afternoon, a big dog trying desperately to pull his attention away, Krinn opened his eyes and clicked his tongue, asking Hugo for a canter, now that he felt more at home.

I want to remember.

Hugo shook his head, carrying the dust further and further.

I want to know what I'm missing.

He knew that it would take time. He knew that in that time his new life would come to play. But he'd try. He had to. This wasn't the life he was supposed to lead. This wasn't where he was supposed to be, but the fates had toyed with him enough to get him there. Right now, the storm would take what he could get. Finally, he eased Hugo down, the dapple grey snorting as he came to a halt, the vast green plain stretching out behind him, the distant roar of the ocean faint in his ears. Krinn looked back on it all, just taking in the sight.

This world was vast, and so was he. It was time to start exploring. It was time to learn what he'd lost so long ago.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxEVEN IF I KNOW IT WILL BE FINE SOMEDAY,
xxxxxxxxxxxxxI just want to be soaked with rain.

❖ ❖ ❖
LET THE GAMES BEGIN.

Day Two.

Its evening, its beautiful. But its also muggy, and not just because of the weather.

Krinn breathes in and out through his mouth, sweat dripping down the back of his neck. His eyes are half lidded, his fingers twitching every once in awhile. He's seated against the trunk of a grand tree, its roots twisting both up and down in knots and crevices. The nighttime is setting in, waves crashing in the background, cicadas creating the music of the evening. The storm closes his eyes and inhales. The rain down south is headed their way. He wonders how long it will take for it to get to him. He wonders why he cares so much. Taking in a deep breath, he tries to recall the night as it played out. A deep myriad of events and twisted turns and information that he's still desperately trying to mull through. The boy picks the first one that comes to mind and replays it in his head.

Slowly, it starts to become clearer to him. Slowly, he comes out of the daze he's been in.

❖ ❖ ❖
LOADED WORDS ARE LOADED GUNS.

12 : 30 PM. TOYO`S CARAVAN.

"Toyo is basically the medic." Suika explained with an absent wave of her hand. Krinn tripped in an attempt to keep up, his eyes cast down at his bare toes. The girl had tried in vain to get him to wear shoes of some sort, but had given up after finding him bare feet under the heat of the sun. She couldn't change everyone, and certainly not this vivid young creature that had stumbled into her midst. "If we ever travel with these guys again, go to him if you're feelin' sick. Its the best thing you'll ever remember doing." The rain nodded mutely, hoisting himself up into the Caravan thats back had been covered by decorated sheets strung from the top. The inside looked more like a pirates treasury than a doctors office.

"Toyo,"
Suika chided into the back, where a large, elevated.... bed? was. She pushed through beaded curtains, leaving Krinn to peer down and study the lanterns that reflected his curious gaze. In the background, he could hear something shift and move, and then fall to the ground in a heap. "Hun, you look awful. Have you gotten into any fights lately?" The blond's voice pursued in the background. Krinn smiled, listening to the idle voices that must have been the doctors and Suika's own. His fingers etched over the engravings of a crown settled on a pile of pearls, ghosts against the cool metal. He wasn't aware of the footsteps until a large hand cascaded over his own, rough and war torn, scarred but comfortable. Jumping, the boy looked startled into deep blue eyes and light blond hair.

Why did this face seem so familiar...?

"A polite child shan't be touching what isn't his."
The man said, rubbing his free hand over a chin light with stubble. Krinn, like a deer caught in headlights, gave a mute nod, his lips twisting a bit. But then his mind sweetened to the look in the other's eyes.

"But an adventurous one would disregard those rules in favor of living,"
He said, frowning at the familiar words. "And in my opinion, an adventurous one is more charming than a polite one. Sir." Krinn slipped his fingers from under the scarred hand and settled a few inches away, giving a half bow that felt familiar somehow. He remembered mimicking it as a child.... some time ago.

Toyo watched him for a minute or so, scratching at the stubble before returning a flighty bow of his own.
"Good answer, kid, no' many people come up with that sort of tricky talk." He said, gesturing the other over. Curious, Krinn padded after him, watching as Suika gave him a light shrug, her eyes turning to an old, dusty album as if to leave them to privacy. Settling down on what the storm could now confirm as a heavily padded bed behind a veil of light colored curtains and beads, Krinn watched warily as the other let out a cat like yawn and swatted the area next to him. "Sit." He commanded with no trace of daintiness. The boy fell to the pillows and colorful quilts with little hesitation.

"So. 've heard you got no memories, kid."
The sandy blond spoke languidly, rubbing at his stubble. The more Krinn watched him, the more he wondered how he'd come to a place like this. He seemed to stand out, just as Suika did. But where the girl was only temporarily around, this man seemed to be in permanent residence. Brought back to earth again by the others voice, the storm gave a slight nod. "You remember anythin' at all?" Toyo asked, settling back against the pillows. "Is there a wall between past memories, and when y' woke up?" He grabbed onto the back of Krinn's shirt from where he was, and letting out a strangled cry, the storm was dragged over to the other mans spot, situated in front of him. Red stained his cheeks, and awkwardly, he fidgeted with the edge of the quilt underneath them as Toyo played with his hair, fingers sometimes grazing his scalp.

"Vaguely,"
He murmured, eyes flickering shut under the touch. "I remember bits and pieces. People and places, but nothing concrete. I know myself, but I dont know my past. The only vivid thing was..." He trailed off. His mind hazed, his heated cheeks stinging.

"Was?"
The doctor prompted, continuing to press his fingers against the warm scalp.

"Rain."
Krinn said, pulling his eyes open to look at the far wall, decorated in maps and letters. "The sound and scent of it. And someone telling me to forget." He paused, his tongue clicking to the roof of his mouth. "And then its all a haze." He paused, his eyes turning to catch a glimpse of Toyo's blond hair. "I think I must be crazy." He said slowly as the doctor took his hands away. "I cant even remember the person's face. Just the words. Just the word." He laughed sheepishly. "I must be insane." He hummed, his cheeks red.

Toyo ruffled the storm grey hair, his lips forming around a scoff.
"I don' know about your past, kid, and I certainly dont have a clue about your future. But if theres one thing 'm sure if, its that this world isn't just black and white. What you call crazy could be someone's everyday norm." He patted the boy, even as he turned around to face him. "Dun' be throwin' away your only memories to craziness when you dont know your past." He advised, knocking his knuckles up against Krinn's chin. "You might be insane, but thats not such a bad thing in the end. World's comin' to an end, might as well go down laughing."

Krinn frowned, about to tell Toyo that he wasn't laughing when the doctor chuckled and leaned back.
"On the subject of your memories though, boy, I'd take a guess that they've been repressed." He paused over his words, pressing his tongue to the roof of his mouth, a hand lifting to rub at stubble.

"Repressed?"
Krinn repeated skeptically.

Toyo fiddled absently with one of the exotic pillows.
"Repressed. It usually happens after a traumatic incident. Who knows, maybe you're lucky not t' remember." He said, rubbing a hand over the fabric. "But if you only woke up with no memories recently, then there're only a few options to consider. An' your head looks pretty damn pristine for someone who could have suffered a head injury that would have shot the memory." The sandy blond rubbed the back of his head. "Good news is tha' repressed memories generally come back. Time spans differ. Few days, few months. Y' can try and jog them before, but I wouldn' worry about not getting them back. They'll come. It'll just take some time."

Krinn closed his eyes momentarily, his mind trying to taste all of the new information.

Time. Time. Time.

But he was so restless.

❖ ❖ ❖
LOADED WORDS ARE LOADED GUNS.

3 : 02 PM. BEACHFRONT WITH HORSE`S.

The sea breeze caught and tangled in Krinn's hair, fingers made of nothing scraping against his scalp. The waves crashed soundly against the shore in the distant, their hums and shrills cooperating with the seagulls cries above to create a melody of sound. A muzzle found his shoulder, and a large grey head appeared, searching shamelessly for treats. "I've got nothing for you," Krinn said in an affronted manner, frowning and turning around to give the large gelding a kiss on the nose. Hugo snorted, ears directed towards the wind as another sound broke through the solidity of the beachfront. The dust glanced up at the arrival of the woman who'd he'd only recently acquainted himself with. She smiled down at him, and for a moment, they shared silence, staring out at the endless expanse of blue.

"Pretty big, huh?"
Suika asked finally, dropping her reins and staring out at the sea.

"Mm."
Krinn glanced at the woman, his eyes alight with wonder before he turned them back to the beach. Waves continued to crash against the shore, salt tang brushing against the dusts mouth in a persistent cry for attention. "I feel so small compared to it."

The lady laughed, swinging a leg over and jumping off of her steed. Coming up next to the boy, she stuffed her hands in her pockets, mint hair twisting through the breeze.
"You're supposed to. If you aren't feelin' small, the ocean isn't doing its job." Suddenly, Suika gave the boy a heavy slap to the back. Krinn gave a mangled yelp, digging his toes into the sand in a sad attempt to stop himself from falling down the slope that led to the beach. The woman followed shortly after. "I wonder if you're from overseas." Suika hummed in what felt like a dreamy tone.

Krinn spat out sand and stood up, rubbing his face and grain coated arms.
"I d-dont think so." He said, shaking his long hair much like a dog. "I'm pretty sure thats not the case. I would've remembered, I think." He tapped the side of his head. "Its coming back, slowly but surely... Just have to... wait for it all. But of what I remember, there was no big ocean to stare out at."

The girl brushed a hand through her minty hair, hand on her hip.
"Well, y'never know." She said with a good natured laugh. "We're setting out tomorrow, who knows where the road'll lead. You could be from the middle of nowhere for all I know."

Krinn's mouth twisted into a bit of a sheepish pout.
"I dont think thats it either." He said, putting his hands on his hips. He glanced at the girl, almost the same height, and where she spread a grin across her lips, the dust could only huff. "Where are you from anyways? I may still be figuring myself out, but you haven't given me much insight onto you either."

Suika blinked at the comeback, obviously not having expected such an open question. The boy so far had been a bit spineless, cowering at the sight of toy swords and bending to the will of children half his size. The first night he'd barely spoken unless spoken to. Suika's mouth pulled sharp into a grin. Was he growing a backbone?

"I was born in Aimes. But my homes in Amies. My da' was the owner of a large ranch, and I inherited it from him."
The girl gave a shrug. "Family business, right? I'm a horse trainer, but I took the liberty of travelin' for a bit." Suika punched Krinn's shoulder in what he could only hesitantly call affection. The boy couldn't help but smile a bit, the names brushing fond memories in his mind, their haziness dropping away to reveal crystal clear images that he desperately tried to hold onto.

"I want to go there,"
He said, tilting his head back and tasting the salt tang in the air.

Suika's mouth opened into a laugh.
