"Well it seems that I can see the connections of things with others. Every relation is shown in strings." Leaning forward Deite drew with her fingers a straight line, "When one thing interconnects with another, let us say different people in the life of someone, then those people strings will wrap around that person's line or whatever the case may be. The stronger to relationship the tighter they are, sometimes inter weaved. A general rule of thumb, the thicker and stronger a string is the stronger the relation, fraying tiny strands tend to be extremely weak while ropes are often very strong like the relationship between a mother and child." Deite stopped for a second, "Is any of this making sense?"

Randy nodded. "Yeah, yeah." He considered Deite's point of view. So everything she saw was connected by strings, from thread size to rope size apparently. He wondered if that would clutter up her normal sight. And the bending must occur when he exerted his will to do a spell and change reality--- like when transporting a chair from his living room to here (wherever this was). To do that he had to make a hole in reality and compress space between the two points, basically creating a wormhole then actually move the chair through it, which, he supposed, was a lot of work just to conjure a chair, but that was why he was a prodigy, he guessed; he was willing and able to do the work. Anyway, he returned from his off-topic mental jaunt to the conversation at hand. "So how can you see everything else past all the strings? I mean, aren't there a lot of them?"

"You know how when you look at the sun and you see little spots everywhere? The strings are like that. They are visible, different colors that lay over everything else but sort of transparent so you can see everything else if you focus. It is hard sometimes to see but I make my way around it most of the time. And yes there are a lot of them, so many that it may as well be layers of fabric.” Deite sighed, “Are you a figment of my imagination?”

Randy, wrapped up in the visual image of those many-colored transparent strings, took a moment to catch up with what was currently coming out of Deite's mouth. When he did, he was a bit taken aback. And she thought he was rude? But, quick: Randy's rapid-fire synapses said to him, Here is an opportunity to spice up this exchange. "Uhhh, yeah. I am." He sat back, shifting onto his haunches, feeling good. Sure, he could be Deite's imaginary friend for a while. He'd had worse jobs and this sounded like fun. "So this is your imagination," he announced, standing and holding his arms wide. He spun, surveying the room again. "It's a bit bare. Why don't we spice it up a little?" He made a series of rapid changes, thinking to make the bendiness happen all at once so it might be less weird for her. He added gold carpet, teal wall paper, white wainscoting, and a chandelier complete with little flickery lightbulbs. "There, that's better. What else is in your imagination? What would be here?" He produced an illusion, flashing through different options. It wasn't real so he hoped it wouldn't cause any distortion. The room was full of illusory penguins, then ponies, a giant ball of yarn, a bi-plane, small men, neckties, all of the Flaming Lips' album covers, Leonardo DiVinci, and finally a very tall wooden giraffe. The giraffe galloped around and through them before dissipating in swirls of bright woodgrain. "What do you think?"

"A simple no could have sufficed." Deite mumbled agitated, he didn't have to make fun of her about this sort of thing. Of course she thought that in such a strange situation she may be crazy, not to mention she see's 'strings' everywhere had always marked her as insane. Still there was no way such a person could come from her imagination and his choice in furniture was nothing any part of her mind would consider, but it seemed he liked that kind of stuff so she lied, "The room's nice." She tried to keep her eyes toward the floor during the room's refurnishing. "So I am not crazy. Maybe. Most likely," Deite sighed, what was she going to do? "What next?" She asked unable to think up anything.

Randy frowned and let the illusions disappear. His charm didn't work on her, apparently. Okay, so much for that. He shook off the failure and shrugged heavily. "It doesn't matter to me whether you're crazy or not. I've got some crazy friends at home and some I think are probably clinically diagnosable." He sighed and returned the room to it's white empty state in a single anticlimactic fizzle. Randy folded into a tangle of limbs cross-legged on the floor. He reached into his the pocket of his jeans and rummaged around, grunting, "So I don't know---" He removed a perfectly normal, ratty deck of cards and began dealing. "Wanna play some cards? Do you know how to play Toast?"

Deite sighed, "Don't you want to go back home? Don't you have a family, a wife, children? Friends? Won't they worry?" This Randy was weird, most people would be freaking out in this situation, she just couldn't understand it. She needed to know why he was so cool, otherwise she would not be able to put to rest her distrust of him. She didn't want to not trust him. In truth Deite was terrified, she didn't know what was going on, she was stuck in a strange place with a strange man. "I am not some grand person who can take unusual things in stride, I grew up in a small town, I work as a sales clerk. So please, just please, can you tell me that you at least tell me why you are not at all the bit phased by this? Then maybe I can calm down enough to play, or learn how to play, Toast."

Randy blanched at the thought of having a wife and kids. His friends were bad enough about nagging and expecting him to do things, Azure especially. "A wife and kids? How old do you think I am?" He patted his smooth cheeks. "And yeah, my friends are probably worrying, but I disappear like this all the time to other dimensions, worlds, times, etc. Usually by accident, but sometimes on purpose. I just seem to be a bit of a trouble magnet as far as gaps in space and time are concerned. If they're really worried, they'll find me. My partner in crime is very good at finding people." He had finished dealing cards and had a row of three cards face down with three cards face up on top and a three-card hand waiting in front of each of them. He set the rest of the deck in between. "So, I'm not really 'grand'; just used to this sort of thing." He shrugged.

"It's not so weird to think you may be married, my neighbor got married right after High School and had a daughter the next year." Towards what he said about his friends worrying and him disappearing all the time. "You must be a hard person to live with. Always disappearing randomly, I bet your land lady hates you." Leaning back a little. "So how do you play?" Deite asked nonchalantly. He really didn't make her feel calmer but she didn't think she could get anymore out of him. Not necessarily because he was hiding anything but Deite have met people like him. So relaxed they never worried much went with the flow didn't take to much time on the details unless it was something they found extremely interesting(For Randy it seemed all the scholarly things Deite hated). They rather be playing a game than working. Often caught up is some kind of mischief. If something or someone seemed bothersome or boring, they would just blow them off(politely or not) and move on the next best thing. Instead of trying to talk him into being serious Deite, tried to focus on his lines. Secret like, so not to make him go back on the subject of strings.

"Land lady?" Randy laughed. "Try 'parents.' I don't have time for a job that actually pays when I'm having to be a gifted student of magic. Can't get a job, can't pay rent. It's not like I'm home enough to actually live there anyway." Randy picked up his three card hand and examined it, feeling Deite get a bead on him. He wondered what she was thinking. Probably nothing good; she seemed a little uptight while Randy found that a relaxed attitude was best in the face of constant universal uncertainty, which thanks to his studies, he was always aware of. "So these card are your hand, feel free to look at them. You should always have three cards and if you have fewer, draw; if you have more, you don't have to draw from the deck on your turn. The object is to get rid of all your cards first. Follow me?"

Deite asked a smile on her face, it was fake, but then again Deite was a pro at faking smiles so she was sure he wouldn't notice. Looking Randy in the eye's Deite, "How do you get rid of cards." She took the opportunity to study where the more personal lines are more visible. Quickly, she hoped subtly, she looked away. That was more disorienting than when he made things appear and disappear. This man, so frustrating. Unusual, and relaxed. She may just hate him, through no fault of his own.

When Deite's eyes met his, Randy thought he saw something there . . . something unpleasant, but he mentally shrugged it off. If she didn't like him, she could tell him so instead of pretending to enjoy his company. He was sure he could find a way to get out of this place or invite one of his friends to join them. He probably had half a dozen open communication charms on his person at a time and could count on at least that many of his crowd carrying their corresponding charms. "You discard cards every turn. You can discard more than one card of the same face, such as three jacks at the same time. Tens burn the deck, or eliminate the card in discard from the game; twos reset it; and aces are high. You begin by switching the cards from your hands with the face up cards on the table." Randy traded a face up three for a king, and a face up 5 for a 10. "You can only switch these now so pick your highest and best cards." He looked up, waiting for Deite to let him know she understood. Trying to explain Toast properly kept his mind off other things, like how pissed Azure was going to be if he didn't make it home in time for their partner permit exam.

Deite let out a huge yawn, then answered "Well lets see, if I get I won't mess up too bad." It occured to Deite that she had just gotten off the night shift when she had stumpled upon a tear in the fabric of the world and fallen here somehow. Deite traded her cards, a three for the king Randy had just put down and a jack for the ten. Again Deite started to yawn but hid, if badly, behind her hand. Maybe she should take a nap, not now but maybe after this game.

Randy pointed to the cards Deite had just swapped out. "Um, those are mine. You trade from your pile." He indicated the set of six cards in front of her as opposed to the cards in front of him, each with three face down on bottom and three face up on top. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea; Deite seemed tired and Randy wasn't feeling the teaching mojo today. "Meh," he said. "Maybe this isn't such a good idea. What do you know how to play?" He'd much rather just play something she was good at already so he wouldn't have to think about it so hard.

Deite thought for a moment, then counting off with her fingers she listed the games she did know how to play, "Texas Hold 'em, Black Jack, Spades, Hearts, Old Maid, Go-Fish, Crazy 8's." Doing a double check in her mind to see if she missed anything, she hadn't. It was an extremely short list but it's not like she had time to learn and play card games between paying her own bills and her mothers hospital bill she had to work nearly all around the clock. Maybe it was good to get a bit of rest from all that, this could be good thing after all. Deite Yawned again, "Which one would you prefer?"
