Imperial funding, not so bad. It's not like the empire doesn't subcontract things out.

Actually, I think that idea would be doable. If we set it after the Bastion Accords, then technically the war would be over. Pellaeon is in charge, and trying to solidfy the Imperial Remnant, and coallesce his territory into a working, defended governement.
I can easily see them sparing one ISD to use as an ambassador, send it to an obscure section of their area. They establish negotiations with the locals, set up a system/sector base, and from there work around the area, exploring, mapping, and fighting any criminals they come by.
Kind of like how Shepard in ME works. He travels around, maps out valuable resources, kills pirates where he finds them, refuels when he has to, etc.

That is, if everyone actually /wants/ to basically all be the same kind of person. That's limiting everyone's race down to human, part of the imperial navy. Women aren't going to be very numerous, and still having a massive crew compliment for something rather simplistic.
Do you really think you need ~30,000 people for what normally 2 jedi were capable of doing 98% of the time?

A valid point, but then that leaves everyone else to be characters the two jedi meet along the way. No real cohesion, unless the jedi were trying to form some kind of group
Hmm. Women not being numerous is a bit of a snag for the Imps, but not a big one. Women were becoming more common as early as Thrawn's comeback, and this would likely take someplace around 20 ABY, a good decade after him. Human males would still be the majority of course, but it wouldn't be unheard of to have a woman on board.
I did have another idea... we could be a bunch of smugglers, working under one banner. Similar to Karrde's bunch.

I just don't see someone going, "Hey, the empire's all about peace" when they're flying around in the biggest symbol of tyranny ever created in their galaxy. Sure, that's like going to the local sailboat races with the Bismark battleship and saying "it's just been slightly modified".
And there's still the lack of alien races issue, if anyone actually wanted to be something other than stock and hardy people from Anaxes or Corulag.. Assuming I'm not the only one in that boat...

Point taken. But what other ships would be big enough to establish a presence and patrol a system? Unless you decided to have an armada of smaller ships. I kinda pictured the ISD as more of a show of presence and security, rather than actually needing the full utility of it.
So, I suppose we could use smaller ships. Maybe a Vic or two.

If you're trying to patrol a system, then you're going into a military campaign, rather than exploration and making your way in the world which is what I suggested. That's a totally different tangent.
If you're going for a game that's like that, then bust out a full sector fleet, don't play pansy games with one or two ships, since what the game you're going for is "conquest for the empire! long live palpatine and his tyrannical ways!" Might want to bust out who's going to be leading the ground charge, and who's managing the fleet and her support ships. Why not just resurrect the game stellar designed and go with your idea #3, since that's basically all you're describing now again.

Eh, you're right.
Hmm.
I once once in a BT roleplay. We were based in the CSA. Same basic policing principal, but with a lot less manpower. We were using mainly Clone Wars vintage stuff. We were already established, plus there was the possible situations we could do, such as patrolling, hunting pirates, running investigations, escorts, etc.
In any case, would you be willing to concise your idea to a scenario, explaining what we'd be doing, and the roles reccomended?

Remind me of which idea you're referring to?
Because the only one I proposed had nothing to do with military ships, hunting pirates, patrolling systems, or the like. In fact, so far, none of the plots have anything to do with anything outside of militaristic application of force admist a war.
Note scenario one: Revan/Exile join the galactic civil war. Basically pick a side and go shoot 'em up.
Note scenario two: Clone wars redux. Again, pick a side, go shoot the other guy up.
Note Scenario three: Rebel hunter. Not exactly line 'em up and knock 'em down, but it is, empires vs. Guerilla tactics. Again, another combat based, military grounded, pick a side and shoot the other team up.
Note scenario four: Tamor V... do I really need to point out that this is yet another RP that's main focal point is based all around two opposing factions at war with each other with little room to do anything else?
I'm failing to see where my idea of going into the unknown regions to scout new territory and face the things yet to be discovered in a fight for the freighter's survival somehow fits into this heavily militarized theme, EK. My idea had a ship with a crew of 8 tops, not battallions of soldiers and squadrons of fighters flying around blasting up more batallions of soldiers and squadrons of fighters.
Or am I misunderstanding something here? I just don't see how you expect me to integrate my idea into one of your pre-existing ones.

I know what your suggestion was, with the small crew and a lone freighter, and focus on exploration and survival. I was just asking if you'd be willing to convert it into a few paragraphs of information.

oh, um....
Space. The Final Frontier. We are the crew of the Explorer ship Destiny. Our mission? To explore the unknown regions of space and the hidden corners of the galaxy which few dare touch down. To seek knowledge and explore the lands few know about, such as Iego, Dathomir, and Myrkrr. To seek out what mysteries the galaxies hold for generations to face, exploring strange new worlds. Nothing but the hides on your back, and whatever personal gear you can carry on your belt, pathfinding isn't an easy job, but you'll see things you never thought possible...

Scientists (which could double as doctors) and scouts, basically. To break it down further, you could also claim archaeologists, bodyguards, grunt labor, maybe even a wealthy patron or jedi overwatcher.

- Pilot - Co-pilot/Navigator - Soldier/Mercenary - Couple of scientist/explorers - Couple of droids - An overseer from the person funding the project, possibly a Jedi
Look about right?

More like....
-Scouts -Mercs -Scientists.
Everything else is merely a variation of those three that have little requirement. Depending on the ship size and crewing, multiple roles needing filling could all be done by a single person. Common allies would be things like the navigator's guild and corporate sponsors, while enemies could be the Chiss ascendancy or whatnot..
