Farellen laughed at Salin's face when he hit the water "hahahah" he laughed, doubled up in mirth, tears running down his face "you...you should ..hahahaha... you should have seen your face" he found himself suddenly drenched, and getting a vague feeling of Deja Vu. "hey!" he spluttered before divebombing in, splashing everywhere. Taking off all but his shorts he laid them out on a smooth boulder to dry, putting them in the shape they would have been if someone had been wearing them.

"You!" he sputtered, throwing up his arms to ward off the splash from the dive, albeit ineffectually. "I'm going to find your bed and wring out my hair on it!" He threatened, before slogging out of the water to shuck off most of his own wet clothes, proof enough that his surprising skin tone wasn't a tan, though the sun didn't harm it any either. "I thought a feline had really showed up!" He accused, arranging his clothes in the sun. The hair was just going to stay wet until he could un-braid it and dry it, though since he had more chores later, that might take some time. "Proud of yourself?"

"I'm going to find your bed and wring out my hair on it!" Farellen's face dropped, "you..you wouldn't" he faltered, already panicking a little at the threat, watching as Salin put his clothes away, even diespite his shock he could see that Salin took care of himself, and he raised an eyebrow in appreciation, "wha..oh um.. proud? .. er hahaha, yeah" he said, attempting to cover his shock.

Salin blinked, wading back into the water, pointlessly wringing his hair over the lakes surface, which made small drops of scented oil and water run over his fingers. "Hm? Oh, no probably not." As a joke maybe, but Farellen's face made it clear he wouldn't find it remotely funny. Damn, he should have figured that much from the way he'd been so neat about drawing the line in the sands. Or maybe not. He'd only really known the boy for a short time, and he was just starting to put the pieces together. "Sorry. I was just kidding."

Farellen's releif was palpable, especially as he'd seen the oil leave a small slick, on the surface of the lake from the oils in Salin's hair, clearing his throat embarassed "sure, i knew that!" he sounded unconvincing, "lets swim for a bit" he suggested, now he was in the water he had the compulsion to swim a while.

"Works by me." He shrugged, and dove to clear his head in the warm water, trying to line up the pieces of the curious puzzle his fellow candidate was becoming.
He'd reacted so powerfully to the threat of a wet pillow....
He surfaced a few yards away, floating on his back thoughtfully.

Farellen smiled, following an unseen line he swam there and back twice, then moved horizontally there and back twice, concentrating, before allowing himself to relax and float on the water.
He relaxed there, eyes half closed against the glare of the southern sun, he watched as a Dragon came out of Between he smiled and waved to the rider, even though he'd not likely be seen by either dragon or it's rider, "Hey Salin! that'l be us someday"

He turned his eyes skyward, staring at the dragon as it soared past, his expression introspective as it sailed past gracefully. He really wanted to get back Farellen's enthusiasm, but a couple turns older than him, his optimism was waning slightly, and the chance of bonding with a dragon was starting to feel as though it could become, like the one above their heads, unreachable and dreamlike.
"Wouldn't that be wonderful?" He agreed, wistfully. "Maybe one of us will even find a partner the next time there's a hatching."

Farellen stared, still waving "of course we will, you'll be Weyrleader and i'll be your second in command" he said, even though he'd met Salin a few times, and was only just getting to know the older lad, he always tried to make the people he liked shoot for the best, he'd be happy with any colour, but he wanted his friends to always want more than 'settling'.

"Mm." Salin admitted doing a lazy backstroke. "What if it's the other way around? I've never pictured myself flying over the gold or riding bronze. I mean ultimately it's not up to us, but I've never pictured it. Call it lazy if you like but it seems like more than I feel like biting off." He admitted. "I just don't think I was born to shoulder that level of responsibility. Fighting thread is one thing, but... And thats if I don't just age out of candidacy."
This he admitted with a rueful, slightly bitter sigh. "I know what the odds are, in my gut, I just haven't admitted yet that I might not be one of the ones who was born to impress."

Farellen mvoed to look at Salin, "wht are you talking about, of course you'll Impress, the right Dragon hasn't hatched yet that's all" he said, his voice clear with conviction, as if not Impressing never once crossed his mind. He watched until the Dragon and rider went out of sight, sighing happily he yawned "wanna go dry out?" he asked, swimming towards the shore.

Salin forced a grin again, hoping that Farellen's conviction was contagious, and convincing to whatever fates ruled the hatching sands. "I hope you're right." He admitted. "I must be turning cynical in my old age." This was intended as a joke, and he winked to prove it.
"Hmph. Dry out he says." He added, as though expressing his grievance to the rocks they were drying their clothing on. "This after he soaks me from head to foot." He bobbed upright for a moment, gesturing at his dripping braids in mock exasperation before paddling toward shore. "How I suffer for vanity." He teased.

"i AM right" replied Farellen, aiming a playful splash towards Salin. "hahaha old age?! if you're old then i'm a Bronze Dragon!" he laughed, pulling himself up out of the water.
He frowned a little at Salins comment on Vanity, "i suppose there'll be less call for that when we've Dragons to pil and clean up after" he said, remembering the muck laden clothing after a day of Stable duty, he smiled as he remembered the girl, "Gabriel!" he exclaimed "Hey Salin! i remembered a girl's name!" he laughed, checking to see if his clothes were dry.

"Less call for what?" He asked, wading out of the water to pick up his tunic and give it a critical flap. "Vanity or suffering? My particular version of both will probably end when I actually do something about my ridiculous choice of hair style instead of merely admitting that it's ridiculous."
He did at least admit that it was pure vanity, though it wasn't always as impractical as it looked. Just often, though 'flyway' hair in a high wind wasn't really the problem it might have been for another long haired candidate.
The comment about the girl made him laugh, considering putting on the damp shirt, which had cooled from the soaking. "What, you've met so many you can't be bothered with their names?" He joked.

Farellen smiled, though he wasn't that amused "well, for you, your hair looks good, if i tried that it'd look ridiculous" he said trying to raise the other's opinion of himself "dont doubt yourself, i mean, if YOU doubt you, a Dragon would doubt you too" he said with complete conviction, this was obviously a lad who never thought of NOT Impressing, even if it took all his Candidcy he was going to Impress, or at least, HE thought he was going to eventually find the Dragon for him.
Chuckling at Salin's comment about girls, "er..no.. well, kind of, i just have trouble remembering names, i'm glad i remembered yours, though, you're easier to remember that most other people" he said trying to figure out how to dry his hair, before he put his clothes on.
