Thenia followed the woman without pause, wondering mainly why she had decided to aid her and the keeper so willingly. The fact that she was a demon seemed not to faze her, which was not the reaction she had expected from either the doctor or Eshe. However, it left a good feeling in her heart to know that these two people who had walked head first into her troubles were prepared to help remedy her mistake. "Forgive me, but I've forgotten your name miss..." Thenia said, turning to look up at her companion. Eshe had mentioned it, but she had been too distracted to notice.
The doctor smiled again and laughed lightly. "My name is Lanryel, and I don't believe I have the honor of knowing your name either."
"Thenia." she replied with a slight bow. Thenia was about to continue when the sudden sound of shuffling footsteps alerted her to Shiro's approach. Turning to face him, her face blushed red with guilt as he spoke, unable to meet his gaze. Certainly he had every right to be upset with her for numerous reasons, and he could curse her existence for the rest of his life. "Yes, I couldn't kill you if I tried." she murmured, just as Lanryel stepped between them.
"I do not know any details of the situation that brought you both here, but there will be no blood shed from hate or vengeance within these walls." The serious tone in her voice caused Thenia to shiver, looking up at the woman before her. Lanryel stepped towards Shiro and took hold of his shoulder, moving him slightly to inspect his wound. "Come, there will be no more of this. You are severely hurt and I will not allow you out of my sight until I am sure that you will not be able to rip the stitches I have worked hard to close you up with."
Lanryel took a firm hold of Shiro under his arm and led him down the hallway past Thenia, motioning for her to follow. Thenia watched for a moment before her feet began to carry her off a few feet behind them. It was as if she was in her own little world, following as an observer to the strange scene before her. A few minutes later, they arrived at Lanryel's room, entering into the study room just inside the door. The room was filled with a vast array of medicinal equipment and vials of powders and liquids. Thenia circled the room silently examining everything she could see as Lanryel sat Shiro down on a reclined chair. "Stay in this chair until I return, and if I catch either of you preparing to attack the other, I will not hesitate to subdue you." She looked and both of them for a moment before passing out of the room through a large curtain at the far right end. Thenia took a seat on a stool across the room from Shiro, moving her gaze between the room's contents and him, unsure of his feelings towards her still.
Finally, to break the thick silence that had fallen in the room, Thenia looked to him and spoke shakily. "I know it may not mean much to you, and you have every right to think I am being deceitful...but I am sorry for what I've done..."

Shiro erupted into laughter awkwardly as he heard the words spew from her lips. "To think...a demon sorry for causing someone misfortune...grandfather would turn over in his grave if he heard this..." he said as his laughter slowed down from a chuckle to pure silence. An awkward silence coveted the room as the two sat across from one another with not one word to really say. He had said what he meant, and he was sure she had as well. He looked about at all the viles of fluids, and began to slightly worry. Where the hell was he? He hadn't thought much about his surroundings until now. "So...what now...I suppose I'm your prisoner or something?" he asked questionably as he cupped his wound carefully peeking underneath the bandages. "You going to torment my soul for the rest of eternity or what?" he asked quietly remembering the fables his cousins once told him about. His wound upon inspection was not exactly the worst, but nonetheless it did make his stomach turn. He leaned back against his seat letting out a big sigh. "Whelp...as much as I'd like to stick around for those answers, I'm gonna get the hell out of here," he said as he peeked around the corner. He struggled to stand back up, and made it about half way, but sadly fell back down onto the chair and blushed embarrassingly. He tried again, only this time he made it all the way up onto his feet only to hear footsteps coming from behind him. He swore lightly to himself as he quickly plopped back onto the chair, knowing that whomever it was wouldn't be too happy about his refusal of treatment. He knew it had to be that crude woman whom brought him into this room. He grunted as he shifted slightly in his chair and peered at the young demon before him. "This is entirely all your fault you know..." he said distressingly as his worry began to rise again. Now all he really wanted was to go back home. He hated being unsure of his surroundings, and hated even more that he was sitting right next to his previous assailant. Lo and behold he was right about whomever was approaching, and indeed it was the same woman whom dragged him from the hallway, and plopped him into this chair, which was rather comfortable. "I never asked for any of your help, nor did I ask to be brought here...frankly all I want to do is just go home..." he said softly as he rubbed his temples nervously.

"I really have no idea what you are talking about." Thenia replied, a little flustered. "I wasn't even entirely sure where we were after I brought you back with me...as for prisoner, no that was far from my intent..." Her voice trailed off and she shook her head. How could she possibly explain to him what was going on when she was not certain of anything herself? When he spoke of leaving, Thenia began to say that the portal they had arrived through had closed and she had no way of reopening it. However, she remained silent as he tried and failed to leave his seat, resisting the sudden urge to laugh at the bizarre sight.
Not too long later, she heard Lanryel returning. Suddenly, she remembered as he mentioned home again that she still had the lantern on her person. Carefully, she took it out from her bag and examined it as Shiro dealt with Lanryel. It was no longer the mystical vessel her father had bade her destroy, but a cold empty shell of dark metal.
Lanryel had a hard time finding what she was looking for at first. It was a relatively difficult task, as many of her medicines were not meant for Humes. However, after detailed searching she finally found the pills she was looking for in a dark wooden box. She took a few and placed them in a stone bowl, taking up a smooth stone pestle and grinding the pills into a fine powder. Within moments it was ground down to a fine powder, which she mixed into a large glass of water. The pills would work as a pain killer and boost his body's healing ability.
As she took the cup and began heading out to her study, she could hear Shiro shuffling about. Sighing audibly Lanryel pushed past the curtain and approached him from behind, setting the glass down on a table next to him. "No, you haven't asked for my help, but this young woman has, and I made a promise to her that you would return to full health. As for returning home...I fear that you may not be able to. It is very hard for a Hume to pass through to Heil, and for that matter I am not entirely sure how you managed-" For a moment she had turned towards Thenia when she noticed the girl out of the corner of her eye.
Her heart seemed to stop in her chest. While she had never seen it in person, the stories she had heard of the Lantern of Fire that kept the balance between the two worlds in harmony described something much like what the girl held. Suddenly, everything about that morning seemed to make sense. The disturbing feeling of the shredded barrier she had felt that morning, the appearance of a Hume. "You..." her voice died in her throat as she turned to face him. Her head began to pound from her confusion, and she held her forehead. he king would have to know of this immediately. Quickly she turned and headed for her door, stopping before she left and speaking to the two of them.
"It is not safe for either of you to leave at the moment, though I cannot keep you here. Know that your being here means that something terrible has happened between our two worlds and your life is in danger. I ask that you drink the medicine I have made for you....and I ask that you give that back to him..." And with that she left, her destination the king's audience chambers. Thenia looked up at Shiro, searching for something, before rising to her feet and walking over to stand before him, holding out the lantern for him without uttering a word.

Shiro's face went blank as he heard what Lanryel had spoken, and watched as she left the room. He then turned his attention towards Thenia as she stood and reached out to hand him the lantern, and without hesitation he turned his head, and smacked her hand away, causing her to drop the lantern upon the ground. "This is not my problem anymore...you caused it, so you fix it...besides, my job was done when you extinguished the flame," he said looking away from her. He felt a growing knot form within the pit of his stomach. What did he have to worry about. His job was to keep the flame from going out, but now the flame is gone...so his job is therefore ended. His responsibility was far from over now... "Besides...even if there was a way for us to light the flame again...i'm pretty sure that it would entail some severely intense task involving demons, and creatures of all sorts that I can't begin to fight against, so...screw this, I'm going home," he chided as he stood up once more, taking the glass of water in his hand, and chugging it as he was told. He turned his back to Thenia, and paused slightly in hesitation before grabbing his jacket and continuing towards the hallway. He peeked his head out slightly to see if the coast was clear, but then looked back towards Thenia realizing that he hadn't an inkling of an idea of how to get back. "On second thought I'm sure you know the area a lot better than I do, so guess what...as forgiveness for my wounds I have accepted you as my guide home...so...lets get this show on the road before that lady makes her way back here."

Thenia recoiled as he hit her, taking a few steps back and bowing her head. He was right, about everything, and it was far from her to oppose his words. As he rose and moved past her, Thenia didn't take her eyes off of the lantern. Maybe there was a way to relight the flame, certainly someone must know. Reaching down, she picked up the lantern and brushed it off before placing it carefully back in her bag.
Finally, she realized exactly what he had asked her to do. While on the one hand, Lanryel seemed to understand more about what was going on than she had explained and certainly cared for their safety. And yet Shiro had a point. Thenia was obliged to do as he bid for what she had done. After a moment of thought, she nodded, and passed him out into the hallway and headed back out the way she remembered them entering the castle from. They wound up in the stables, where the cart the knights had used earlier was still prepared nearby. None of the stable hands seemed to be paying them any heed, so Thenia climbed up into the front and took hold of the reigns. She offered a hand to help Shiro up next to her, and once she was situated she spurred the horse out of the stables and through the main gates left open to let in another group of knights.
Making it back through the city was easier than she had anticipated, having spent time earlier paying close attention to the path they took. Soon enough they had made it back out of the city and crossed the field into the forest. At the very least, she could attempt to find the portal from before. If it was open, all the better, though she had a nagging suspicion that it wasn't. Finding the portal's exit was a harder task, but Thenia managed to find the spot in the forest she remembered surrounding their escape into Heil. Stopping the cart, she got down, and began looking around, hoping to find some sort of clue as to where the portal had gone. All to no avail. Turning to Shiro, Thenia noticed for the first time the minor changes in his appearance. How long had his hair and eyes been changing? It was best not to ask, he was already weary with her as it was.
"This is where we came out...but the location of the portal escapes me..." Thenia bit her lip and held back tears, hoping he wouldn't lash out at her again or think that she had tricked him.

Shiro said nothing at first as he peered at where Thenia had brought him. Him mind reeled with questions as to what it meant for him to be stuck here in this place. Was this truly where he wanted to end up? He peered back up at Thenia seeing her trying to hide her emotions, and smirked softly. "Your really just a normal girl aren't you...well aside from the horns, and what not..." he said softly as he walked up to her. "I'm sorry about all the things I said to you earlier...I'm just a bit, well...flustered. Its all been a bit much for me, and frankly waking up in some strange place with a knife wound to the stomach didn't help the fact that I failed my grandfather..." he said sighing softly. He placed a hand upon Thenia's shoulder, and smiled. "It really is okay you know..." he said softly. Those were the same words he remembered saying to her before he had passed out. "Okay...here's the deal demon...you help me get home, and I'll help you fix this whole ordeal, that way we can call it even okay?" he said trying to pep up her mood. "Speaking of which...I didn't quite catch your name. My name is Shiro..." he said with a smile. Shiro had been so caught up within his own thoughts that he had hardly noticed that the two were being trailed behind by two figures, and even now his mind was preoccupied with figuring out Thenia. He hadn't noticed how normal she really looked. I mean take away the horns, and the odd eyes, she'd be actually a pretty cute human girl, but that's besides the... Shiro's thought process was cut off as he remembered something pretty convenient. He quickly reached into his pocket pulling from it a silver colored cellular phone. He smiled as he flipped it open, and began punching in a couple of numbers...no service. He screamed out of frustration flinging his phone against a try, and shattering it into several pieces, and dropping upon his knees. Why did all the bad things have to happen to him? Why did he have to become keeper of the flame in the first place? Why did he of all people have to be the failure? Why did he have to be stuck here with a knife wound to the gut? All that Shiro could do was sigh softly to himself as he knelt there upon the ground, his clothing heavily soiled with dirt and blood stains.

With a quick pace Lanryel made her way through the maze of hallways in the castle. There was a complicated yet learn able system of passageways that were designed to delay intruders from finding their way to the king's chambers. Luckily, she had spent enough time in the castle to memorize the right paths. Approaching the audience room, she passed by the guards who gave her entrance and pushed the large double doors open.
If she hadn't been paying attention Lanryel would have run right into Eshe. Stumbling backwards, she clutched her chest where her heart was pounding furiously from shock as she heard Eshe trying not to laugh. "Forgive me Lanryel, I was coming to see you, though it seems your timing is perfect." he said cheerily, helping her back onto her feet. Lanryel took a deep breath and held it for a second to calm her racing heart.
"I just came to inform you that I have new information regarding the two young ones who you brought back today. I've moved them to my study, and I believe that the young man is the keeper of the Flame." Eshe immediately took off in the direction of her study, Lanryel trailing close behind.
"I had received several reports when I returned to my chamber. There has been an outbreak of strange occurrences in the outlying areas of the kingdom, involving unexplainable rifts revealing 'another world being laid siege to by demons', to quote exactly. Our worlds are colliding Lanryel, and these two I fear may be the only ones who can remedy this..." They made it back to the study and Lanryel moved inside first only to find the room empty. Turning to Eshe, she noticed a smile playing at the edge of his mouth as he motioned for her to follow. He led her down to the stables and helped her up onto a horse before mounting his own and leading the way through the city and back into the forest, following the trail left by Thenia and Shiro.
Lanryel wanted to question where he was going, but he seemed incredibly sure so she just went along with it. Then, as luck would have it, just up ahead she spotted the two in a small clearing. Eshe stopped just short of the pair, dismounting his horse and approaching softly. Lanryel remained on her horse, watching silently as Eshe bent down next to Shiro. "I am sure that you have a great many questions right now, Hume, and I would be more than happy to answer all that I can. I have reason to believe that you are the current keeper of the Flame from the Hume world, Earth I believe you call it. If this is the case, and it is true that the flame is no longer lit, then I have a bit of good news for you. There is a way to relight the flame..." Raising back to his feet again, Eshe looked down at Shiro. Lanryel wished she could make the boy understand that if there was ever a need for a trustworthy ally, Eshe was that person. "All you have to do is return to the castle for a bit longer to heal up, and I can prepare what you would need to complete this task."

Shiro just sat there upon his haunches racked with frustration. Earlier today, he was just a regular person, but now...now everything relied on him. He chuckled lightly in his mind as he heard the pointy eared person behind him refer to him as a Hume, but thought nothing of it. His mind cleared suddenly as he sighed closing his eyes, and hoisting himself up upon his feet. He had wished for something interesting to happen to his life for so long, that he was somewhat in shock that it was actually happening. What he found even more peculiar is that nobody was afraid of him, or alienated him due to being a keeper of the flame. He had been accustomed to being ridiculed, made fun of, spat at, despised, and even hated due to his role in life, but now he was surrounded by people...erm...beings that didn't quite care that he was a keeper. With his eyes still closed he drew in a deep breath, and released it every so slowly. It felt as if a great weight had been lifted from his chest, and although he knew the road ahead would be long and hard, he simply relished this moment he was having to himself...the moment where he was truly free. Finally he opened his eyes, and peered back at the elf, what he assumed was a human, and the demon girl, and smiled... "Very well...," he softly replied as he focused on the demon woman known as Thenia. "Remind me one of these days to thank you..." was all he said as he mounted his horse, and looked up at the sky unaware of the slight changes to his physical appearance. His skin pigmentation began to lighten from its usual warm tan coloration, giving him a somewhat sickening outward appearance, like that of someone whom fell horribly ill. His once shimmering emerald green eyes, were dulled, and the red ring layering it seemed to become more prominent. His glossy black hair also seemed be fading away to white as the loss of color on the tips of his hair seemed to etch further upwards. He hadn't even noticed that the tips of his ears were slightly pointed. What truly was to befall Shiro, and why was his appearance changing? One thing was for certain though...Shiro for the first time in a very long time was happy.

Something must have finally settled within Shiro, or at least he was resigned to the fact that there was only one road for him to take if he wanted to get the flame back. Whatever it was Thenia liked it when he smiled. If he had decided to pursue this venture that Eshe mentioned, she wondered if she would be able to choose between following him out of obligation and returning to her father. Then again, thinking more on it, if she returned with Shiro still alive her father would certainly be displeased. It wouldn't be an easy decision, and she would take the time to think about it.
Eshe approached and put a hand on her shoulder, bringing her back to reality from her thoughts. "Whatever is concerning you, think not on it for the time being. Let us return to the castle and enjoy the dinner feast that by now should be nearly done."
"A feast? May I ask what the occasion is?" Thenia replied. Lanryel chuckled, leading their horses over to them. She looked to Eshe, and winked.
"The king has returned from a recent journey to one of our allied kingdoms. A great time to rejoice." Eshe frowned and turned away, mounting his horse.
"I really don't see why it is such a big deal.." he muttered as Lanryel helped Thenia up onto her horse before getting up on her own. Thenia wondered what Eshe meant, or why he seemed so upset, but she thought better of asking. Instead, she fell in line next to Lanryel as Eshe led the way back into the city. It was a great deal quieter as they passed through the streets, and it wasn't until they reached the palace that Thenia realized why. Citizens young and old were congregating in the courtyard and filing towards the enormous garden that extended from the great dining hall where many tables had been set up with a seat for everyone.
"When there is an occasion such as this one, the entire city is invited." Lanryel explained, noting Thenia's awestruck expression. She was certainly impressed that the King would show such a courtesy to his subjects; her father never allowed the commoners near their home, though Thenia did spend time in secret among them. The horses were returned to the stable, and before leaving Eshe turned to Shiro and Thenia.
"I hope that you will be able to join us for the feast. As guests of the king, you shall be most welcome. Lanryel will take you to rooms that have been prepared for you, where you may freshen up if you choose. There is of course, no obligation, though I am certain you must be at least a little hungry by now." Eshe flashed his familiar smile before bowing and retreating inside. Lanryel turned to the two and nodded her head, taking the lead and taking them back up to the room Shiro had been placed before, noting that it would be his room, and the one across the hall Thenia's.
"Inside, an appropriate change of clothes has been set out for each of you. So long as you are guests here, feel free to ask any of the servants for any assistance you need, if you cannot find myself or...Eshe, that is. When you are ready, I will be awaiting you down outside the doors to the dining hall so I can take you in." Lanryel took her leave, and Thenia looked to Shiro.
"I guess I will see you in a bit then." she said with a smile, turning and entering her room. It was very similar to Shiro's room, though a feminine touch had certainly been at work. Flowers were placed around the room, and the decor was of a lighter color. Looking around, Thenia removed her cloak and satchel, setting them on the chair by the fireplace before turning to her four-poster bed. It was then that she saw the dress set out upon it. It was a very elegant gown of ivory with silver adornment along the top of the bodice and along the bottom of the train. Unable to resist the urge to try it on, Thenia changed out of her own clothes and slipped into the smooth material of the new dress. It fit like a glove, and she couldn't help but wonder how whoever picked it out knew; certain elves had become well known as master artisans, including the seamstresses of the elven capital. When she was done, Thenia caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror above the fireplace, and almost didn't recognize herself in such extravagance. She smiled, briefly wondering what Shiro would be wearing, or what he would think of her now...

Shiro had said little to nothing save the obvious thank you when shown his room. Truth be told he wasn't a man who spoke much, and when he did speak, he was hardly paid attention to. He had felt relieved once the door to his room was closed behind him, and sat down upon upon his bed, next to where a change of clothing awaited him. He peered curiously at the attire, and thought to himself, 'What odd clothing.' He would never in his world be clothed like such, but as the saying goes...when in Rome. He shrugged and disrobed before a mirror, only pausing to run his hand upon his wound, but then his eyes trailed up to his appearance, and he gasped as he stared at the stranger before him. He could hardly believe that he was staring at a reflection of himself within the mirror, and looked worse for wear. He could already see the white streaking through his once jet black hair, and his eyes...He shivered as he stared deep into his own reflection's gaze. He reached up to examine his hair more closely, but screamed out upon realizing that his ears as well had become pointed, and grew slightly longer than usual. Even his well toned skin was being affected by this change...his once tanned skin had paled horribly since last he remembered giving off an almost creamy complexion. Immediately his thoughts rushed to the demon girl...perhaps that was her task all along...to poison him, or mutate him into something horrid. He gritted his teeth in anger as he continued to dress himself. If he was to die, or become some monster...he'd be damn sure to make her world a living hell. He emerged from the room fully dressed within the clothing adorned by their culture, and quietly walked down the hallway. He had to talk to someone about this, but whom exactly could he trust here? He had not one inkling as of whom was in on this intricate ploy. Hell for all he knew, this was all still part of the game. Whether it was a game or not though, he would be kind enough to play along until he got the answers he required. He smiled lightly to the people in passing as he made his way towards Thenia's room, rapping lightly upon her door. "It's me Shiro...I thought it wise to accompany you to this feast...but not because I trust you or anything..." he said trying to sound as defiant as ever, only to realize how childish he must've came off. He bit his bottom lip as he spun around and leaned against the wall next to her door stubbornly.

The sound of Shiro on the other side of her door made Thenia jump. Her gaze had been so focused on the mirror that she forgot where she was for a moment. Blushing, she laughed it off to cover her embarrassment and moved to the door, entering into the hallway and looking to Shiro. "I appreciate the sentiment, whatever it may be..." she murmured, referring to his strange comment. While he and his mannerisms were still obviously foreign to her, what he wore now was something she was more familiar with-traditional formal clothing with an elven flair that strangely suited him. They also better matched the change in his features which she hadn't noticed again until now. Did it have something to do with him being in her world, rather than his own?
After staring for a bit, she caught herself and looked away, turning in the direction of the stairs. "Shall we go then?" she asked, motioning forward before taking a slight lead. The castle was much more lively than earlier that morning, and Thenia finally got to see some of the servants and other occupants busily passing by. Suddenly, she felt a slight tinge of loss for not having Ganye with her...
After making it downstairs it wasn't long before Lanryel appeared, dressed to the nines in a peacock blue gown. She approached with a smile, ushering the two of them towards the dining hall. "The king will be pleased to see you two to be settled in." she said in earnest as she led the way through the open doors into the boisterous dining hall filled with numerous elves. The hall itself was decorated with gold accents and murals of elven history, and the long table in the center of the room extended out into the garden by way of the floor-to-ceiling doors at the far end of the room that opened up entirely making the wall seem to disappear. The ceiling, the most impressive to Thenia, towered over their heads and featured several skylights that let in the brilliant light from the heavens above through the portals that would normally be covered by a movable plate to keep out poor weather.
Thenia sighed at the marvel, and Lanryel chuckled, leading the two of them over to a pair of seats near the closest end of the table. She and Shiro were seated to the left of a large throne-like chair, and Lanryel took her seat across from them, glancing every so often between the large chair and the door. Thenia figured that she was waiting for the king, and she was at this point very interested in seeing him for herself. Eshe was nowhere to be seen, noted as she scanned the crowd, and she also wondered where he had gotten to. "Are you used to events like this where you're from?" she finally asked, directing the question to Shiro as she settled her eyes on him.

Shiro had smirked at the question Thenia had surprised him with, but said nothing being to embarrassed to bring up the slightest detail of his dull life. He hadn't seen anything of this sort ever, and yet it all seemed oddly familiar to him. He couldn't quite catch wind as to why, but he felt more at home in this strange land than he had in his grandfather's lavish estates. The decor was truly a sight to behold, as well as the patrons within the lavish hall in which they were soon to dine in. Secretly he had already slid one of the dinner knives from the table into his sleeve, pretending to be interested in all that was going on about him. He did so not to attack, but more so to expect the unexpected. The air within the banquet hall filled his nostrils with scents of all natures which ranged in varieties of sweet and salty, why even the scent of alcohol lingered in the air, but it seemed much more refined from what he was used to in his world. He had never truly been a drinker, but recently many things have occurred to him which would count as a first, so why not try some of this strange alcohol. He didn't know why, but recently after being inflicted the wound, which by now was almost healed, he'd been feeling unusually energetic, aware, and slightly stronger. He couldn't help, but wonder what would come next as he began to change more. Perhaps he would grow a tail of some sort, or scales, or extra appendages or eyes. The sheer thought of having extra of anything on his body made his skin crawl. He looked towards Thenia realizing that she had only asked such a question, because she had probably never been to an event such as this. "I've never really been to any type of celebration except for a birthday, but I was really too young to really remember it, and that was a very long time ago when my parents..." he stopped there as he had obviously revisited a very painful moment in his life. He fell silent, and looked away from Thenia swallowing hard, and recomposing himself. "Enough about me...what about you?" he said quietly as he quietly sat there.

Truth be told, Thenia hadn't had anything besides a birthday celebration either, if you could call a small get together with the servants a celebration. Her father always seemed to be busy for such menial events, whether with work or entertaining his own guests outside of their home. For that matter, Thenia had never been allowed to meet her father's friends, and whenever they were hosted at their home Thenia was secluded to her room. She had never thought about it before, yet the atmosphere around her now made her feel strangely happy, and glad to be around other people.
Thinking about his question to her, she frowned slightly. "There isn't much to tell, to be honest. I live in a different region than the elven kingdoms, where the land is mostly mountainous and harsh. It certainly isn't as extravagant as this city, nor as populated. My father..." Thenia paused, remembering his hesitation to speak of his parents. "Well, let me just say that this is the first time outside of my home without my father, for that matter the first time in a different kingdom..." Yes, she was sheltered, and although she was still a bit naiive about it, it was getting harder not to notice moments in the past where her father had purposely kept her front contact with the outside world.
Her voice died off as a sudden blast of fanfare from the entrance of the hall alerted her to the doors. A herald stepped forward, posed in a professional manner, and spoke to the crowd that quickly fell silent. "His Highness, King Eshegarde Sylvari!" The name, at first, didn't ring a bell to Thenia. It wasn't until she saw the king enter that she realized who he was and why everyone had been acting the way they had around him earlier.
It was Eshe, trailed by a group of knights. He was dressed in full robes, unlike the knight's clothes he had been in earlier, and if she hadn't recognized his face she might have confused him for a completely different person. The congregation rose at his approach to the table, and Thenia joined suit as she noticed Lanryel stand. She was looking at Eshe with a knowing glint in her eye, and Thenia finally realized what she had meant earlier when they first met. Eshe stood next to his chair, closer to Lanryel, and addressed the congregation.
"I thank you all for joining me here today, and for celebrating the return of the knights and myself. We have missed home greatly, and are grateful to be back safe and sound among our people. So please, eat and be merry, and enjoy the festivities of the evening!" An eruption of applause echoed through the room and the garden as Eshe took his seat and the knights sat next to the four of them, everyone else followed suit and settling back into their meals. Eshe beamed at them, winking to Lanryel and turning to Thenia and Shiro. "Forgive me for not mentioning anything before, but it is much easier for me to be around people who don't know me too well and not inform them of my role. I meant no offense by it."
"None taken, your Highness." Lanryel toyed, and he shot her a fake angry glare.
"It will always be Eshe for the two of you." he finished, turning back to and addressing the young two. Thenia nodded with a slight smile. So he was the elven king. Certainly, however, she could understand wanting to be anonymous whenever he could be, to be treated as an equal.
"Certainly, Eshe...thank you again for your hospitality." Thenia said, bowing her head slightly as Eshe took his goblet and raised it in a toast to them. Lanryel followed suit, then Thenia, who glanced at Shiro to see if he would join in.
"To a new adventure, and a quest to rekindle the Flame."

As a matter of fact Shiro did not follow suite at all. He simply sat there when the others rose staring at the elven male he had recently met. So he was a king, big deal. He didn't really know why, but something about that man rubbed him the wrong way, and he felt not in the least bit sorry for not doing as the others were, and simply just nodded towards the man whom others would call king, and simply went about observing his surroundings, and taking in as much as possible...besides formality had never truly been his strong suite. He yawned slightly as he looked about at the intrusive glares of those around him, and thought nothing of it. He just quietly pushed his chair back, and rose to his feet, excusing himself from the table, and quietly walking past Thenia, Eshe, and Lanryel towards the balcony for a bit of fresh air. If he was truly not a captive, then he would hear what the king had to say on his own time, for now, all he really wanted was to relish in the fact that he was free from the bindings of his old life. A certain sadness still seemed to fill the void though as he tried to think back to his grandfather, but found himself surprised being that he couldn't remember at all how he looked. He found himself standing upon the balcony, just outside of the feasting hall, and took in his surroundings. There were many vines stretching upwards along the lengths of the two pillars which held in place the small overhang above. He also noticed a statue, carved in bronze, also adorned with creeping vines. The statue was that of an elven man, whom seemed to bare a heavy globe upon his shoulders, and he immediately was reminded of atlas. He chuckled to himself as he walked past it towards the railing of the balcony, and gasped at the splendor of the view. It seemed that the balcony hung perfectly over the top of a waterfall to which one could catch the cool mist almost perfectly. There was no view quite like this in his world. His mind echoed back towards the others as he was sure they would be questioning his abrupt actions. He just really needed to clear his head just a bit. So much was happening to him that he truly just needed a breather. "I need a vacation," he muttered playfully under his breath with a slight chuckle.

While it had certainly not gone unnoticed, Shiro's actions seemed to only phase Thenia, as Eshe and Lanryel finished the toast and drank from their goblets. Thenia dropped her hand slowly without taking in any of the contents, looking after Shiro. Maybe it was still too much for him to accept, especially when he had only recently agreed to stick with them. Thenia excused herself moments later without touching her food, her thoughts focused now on Shiro. While he may not think it was any of her business, she had to try and say something to him and get him to feel less alienated. Though as he had said earlier it wasn't like he trusted her, she hoped she could change that way of thinking now that things had begun to turn out differently than planned.
Thenia followed Shiro out onto the balcony slowly, keeping a decent distance between them until she could think of what to say. Perhaps she wouldn't say anything at all, instead let him speak to her at his own pace without being forced. Suddenly, not a moment after she had stepped out onto the balcony her head started to throb, a pounding pain echoing through her skull. She could hear a man's voice whispering indistinct words, the sounds getting louder and louder. Clutching her head, she hoped whatever it was would pass, that she was just imagining it. It almost sounded like her father.
However the pain and voice got worse, crescendoing to a climax before everything went completely silent save a strong buzzing in her ear. Thenia began to stagger forward towards Shiro, reaching out silently as a sudden darkness clouded her eyes. The distance between them seemed to be growing no matter how far she moved, and just before she blacked out completely she felt a searing hot sting flash across her back that knocked her prone to the ground. Though the source was nowhere to be found, the result was visible clear as day; it was as if she had been slashed across her back with the claws of a large animal, a deep trio of gashes crossing her back.
Meanwhile, back in their castle, Marxes had been watching Thenia's every move. Through his fireplace, with a bit of magic the scenes played across the flames as if he had been there in person. He saw how despite the Flame being extinguished Thenia had failed to get rid of the Keeper and had in fact brought him over to their world. He saw how they emerged in the elven kingdom, the one place where there was information on how to relight the flame, and now his daughter was in deep among his enemy's territory with items that could be traced directly back to him. Let alone she was with Eshegarde, the one person he never wanted her to meet.
"So, my little nuisance has forgotten her purpose in the mission I sent her on. Perhaps I aught to remind her of her place..." he hissed into the silence of his study, grabbing hold of one of his spell books and flipping it open before him to the right page. With skilled recitation, Marxes began to cast the curse, watching as Thenia began to feel the effects. Then, to add to her pain, he cast another spell as his own hand took on it's full demon form, his claws scratching at the fire and the result creating the gashes on her back. Chuckling deeply as he watched her fall to the ground he returned to his seat by the fire.
"Watch your step, young one, next time I may not be so lenient with you..." he murmured as he gazed deeply into the fire. She would recognize the mark he left, as it was not the first time he had punished her with his force, and if she was smart Thenia would be reminded that she was not free from his hold over her.
