Shizuka sighed and noticed that Linuen seemed rather confused and cold. Damn it. That was exactly why she had been trying to stop her zanpakuto from doing something as rash as that. Whipping off her long-sleeved Captain’s haori, she wrapped it around Linuen. She lightly brushed her hand against his forehead. Wow, he was ridiculously cold. “Stay here for a bit and warm yourself up. Your zanpakuto spirit appeared, and that’s why you’re so cold. Apparently, it seems…that your element is ice.” she instructed Linuen. Unfortunately, she had no abilities that involved fire or heat and her Kido was barely able to get her along during battles. He’d warm up soon, hopefully, or else she would have to bring him to a warmer place. Even from this distance, she could feel the fury radiating off Getsuei, who was glaring at the spot where Alestha had disappeared.
“Getsuei, I did warn you that saying things like that isn’t exactly the best thing to do in a situation like this,” she told her zanpakuto spirit. Shizuka’s face stayed calm as the full force of Getsuei’s glare turned towards her instead. “If you ever ever say ‘I told you so’ again, I promise that I will tell every single little itty bitty embarrassing detail about you, starting with how you gained your own Shikai,” Getsuei’s voice was threatening and dangerous. Shizuka couldn’t help but flinch slightly at the threat which was implicit in Getsuei’s words. “Fine, fine, fine.” Shizuka had no choice but to agree. With one last intimidating glare in Shizuka’s direction, Getsuei faded away. Shizuka sighed in relief. To tell the truth, her zanpakuto could be so goddamn scary at times. Not to mention the fact that Getsuei knew too much that was…very embarrassing. How irritating. A captain like herself couldn’t even control her own zanpakuto spirit. A concerned look appeared on her face as she looked at Linuen. “Hey, are you feeling a little warmer?” she asked with a worried face.

Linuen nodded at Shizuka's question as he wrapped her haori tighter around him. He felt ashamed because she was letting him borrow her haori for him. But the greater mystery, how did Linuen go in this state? He was dumbfounded when he found that he was at the ground with Shizuka beside him and her Zanpakutou looking enraged by something. It was also extremely cold that he was literally shivering, even now though he was warmer than before. What happened when he unconscious? What did he miss? Did his Zanpakutou really appear before Shizuka? What did his Zanpakutou do? Why?
"Yes, I feel better now." Linuen said softly, his voice trembling due to the coldness he felt. He shivered again as he was feeling a little bit colder. Suddenly, his right hand raised itself; Linuen let go a yelp of shock as he saw his entire right arm grow cold in a matter of minutes. He yelled in pain as his entire arm slowly froze and turn white. "SHIZUKA-TAICHOU!" he screamed at the top of his lungs, his breath cold too. His mind did not know what to do and he was beginning to feel panic. He was now breathing rapidly and likewise his arm turning to ice. He scrambled to his feet, clutching his arm unknown what to do with it. There was another sharp frigid pain and Linuen dropped at the ground yelling in pain. "What's happening?!"

He seemed better – that was a pretty good sign. Maybe it might be better if she figured out a way to make this place slightly warmer. It was then that Linuen screamed at the top of her lungs and she whirled around, anxiety written all over her face. She immediately deduced the problem as her eyes narrowed at the sight of his right arm going white. Crap. Her Haori would be doing nothing to help that and it was not just a side-effect from before. Crouching down, she, in the most un-Captain-like manner, placed her arms around him and rubbed his arms with her hands, attempting to warm him up using her own body heat. “I’m not entirely sure what’s going on, but I have a good idea.” she told him with a low voice, driving calm into him so that he would not go into a state of utter panic, “And I know somebody who could help me deduce what’s going on. GETSUEI!” She had literally yelled her zanpakuto’s name and Getsuei appeared for the third time today, looking rather disgruntled. “What the hell do you want? I’m not a dog, for you to call me and….oh.” her voice changed as she noticed Shizuka frantically rubbing Linuen’s arms.
“She’s trying to forcibly train him, isn’t she?” Shizuka asked, becoming more worried as the seconds ticked by. Getsuei nodded, now completely serious. “Sometimes if our owners aren’t entirely strong enough, we have to train them…and it usually involves a hell of a lot of pain,” Getsuei replied. “Damn it! I thought she said that she wasn’t going to do anything…” Shizuka said in an annoyed tone, “Linuen needs to talk with her one way or another, or else he’s going to die like this. He’s not prepared enough yet. I thought that his zanpakuto knew that, but apparently she doesn’t. At the very least, they need to communicate in some way.” Getsuei sighed, knowing what Shizuka was going to say. Standing in front of Linuen, Getsuei closed her eyes, speaking again in a tone that she was sure that Alestha would be able to hear, “For heaven’s sake, at least talk to him before you start doing something like this – you don’t even know if he’s determined enough to persevere. Show yourself to your owner.”

"We'll see about that..." Alestha's voice ringing out in the open. Linuen stood there shocked as he heard a voice that he never heard before but felt so familiar. Was that his Zanpakutou? Was that the spirit of his Zanpakutou speaking out in the open? If that was his Zanpkautou, why was she doing this to him? Many things wandered in his mind and he couldn't process all at once; too many questions and too many facts began to swell up in his thoughts. He felt he was drowning with the thoughts that lingered in his mind and without guidance, he felt... lost. He needed the guidance of his captain. He needed the guidance of his Sensei. He needed the guidance of his soul.
But before he could even take a single move on what to do, a sudden spike burst from the ground and struck him squarely on his chest. He gasped for air but none came. He was lifted in the air as he hung in the frigid spike that emerged from the ground. The icicle spike was plunged deeply in his chest and in a matter of seconds, it was covered with his blood. Linuen managed to look at Shizuka. He wanted to shout for help but his voice was suddenly by his sudden tears. He clutched the huge spike in front him that impaled him and tried to push himself from it but he couldn't, not strength came.
His vision got blurry and he felt so lightheaded and was quite certain it must be the feeling of a dying person. No, he didn't want to die so early and such a strange way. If it was his Zanpakutou, why did she did this to him? If it was Shizuka, why? Once again, he was filled with questions and he didn't know what to do. He closed his eyes and let his mind drift into the nothingness once more.
It was also that same moment when a huge ice dome formed around Linuen's body. Alestha showed herself at that instant to Shizuka. "Do not interfere." She said in her usual cold tone. "No matter what happens, he will conquer it himself. Not in your world, or this but my world. It will determine if he is really capable of handling my skills just as you perceived him to be, Shizuka-Taichou."

It was Alestha’s test for him, it seemed, and it was not her place to stop it. However, she almost nearly helped him as she probed his emotions. He seemed to be drifting into nothingness and that was not a good sign. A huge ice dome forming around Linuen’s body prevented her from doing this and she stayed still, waiting for Alestha to appear with a good explanation. No, it had to be a really excellent explanation if Alestha wanted to stop Shizuka from taking revenge. Getsuei, noticing the sudden change in Shizuka’s feelings, stayed quiet, knowing that if she said anything, there was a liability that Shizuka was going to fly off in a rage or do something that was not going to be very pleasant. Alestha, luckily, had appeared, saying that it was time for her to test Linuen’s skills and whether or not he was ready for her skills.
Her face remained impassive and there was no trace of emotions on her face as she listened to Alestha. There was silence for a while, as Shizuka’s eyes bored into Alestha, wondering whether or not she was trust-worthy. Finally, Shizuka inclined her head slightly, a sign of her agreement.
“As this is for Linuen, I will not interfere for now,” Shizuka replied in the same cold tone, putting a strong emphasis on her last word, “But I will be keeping a track of Linuen’s emotions and if I will interfere if he is about to die. Also, since we are already going down that path, I will warn you this, that if you return Linuen to me in a state in which he cannot be healed or he is dead, I promise that I will not rest until you are dead. I don’t know exactly how I’m going to do it, but I will figure out a way. I am responsible for the safety of my squad members and I will interfere when I see it is necessary.”
Finally finished with her little speech, Shizuka looked to where the huge ice dome was, a concerned look spreading across her features. “I have faith in you, Linuen, that you will prove yourself to be worthy of the skills,” Shizuka’s professional tone slipped a little, “Just…don’t die.”

Alestha turned to gaze at Shizuka for the longest of time without saying a word. After that, she shook her head as if in disapproval. "Don't worry, he dies, I die... And... Why do you get so emotionally attached to people for the shortest of time, Shizuka-Taichou? I find that highly intriguing. I find that as amusing as Linuen's Sensei that was always pleasant. So pleasant that it was disgusting. However..." she trailed off and then tuned to Linuen. He was still inside the dome without a single moment, his breathing extremely shallow. He looked asleep but by looking at the huge spike that struck his chest, one could be distracted that he might be dead.
"That's why I never showed myself to Linuen for the longest of time. I hated his Sensei, I hate you and I hate people who looks like they never know the true coldness of the world." Alestha snapped without even sparing a look at Shizuka. Her voice was filled with bitterness this time. "Blinded by the true pain and sorrow of the world; I find you people miserable. Especially that Kei Aoi. I never truly understood what Linuen saw in him that made him idolize that man. And just like you, Linuen sees that too. I refuse to cooperate with these kind of people." She added. It can be felt that the entire area is now beginning to get extremely cold and obviously the cold aura came from the dome in which Linuen was in. Alesthat smirked a little.

This one was cold and bone-chilling, enough to raise the hairs on the back of people’s necks. Getsuei, standing sullenly in the background, winced slightly, knowing that Alestha was doing nothing to ease Shizuka’s anger. “Well, the feeling’s mutual. Even though I must say that I admire and like Linuen, I can’t say the same for you,” Shizuka mimicked Alestha’s snapping tone perfectly. The temperature around her was colder and she stayed still, not shivering at all. She might have to go into a different dimension, if it got any colder than this, since her Captain’s Haori was with Linuen at the moment and there was no chance of her being able to retrieve it. Anyway, she had some things to say to Alestha. “You think that we haven’t seen the true coldness of the world. What do you think my job is for anyway? Everyday, every single day, I am confronted with what you called the true pain and sorrow of the world, in both paperwork and real life. Everyone has experienced this – it’s only how much you decide to go against the world that pushes you. Some may choose to smile and go on, while others just simply remain bitter.” she glanced at Alestha briefly before continuing, “And people can see the good or bad side of others. Like the half-full, half-empty analogy. It’s very simple in fact. If you refuse to cooperate with those kinds of people, soon enough, you’re going to be all alone, by yourself.” Her manner had faded from anger to a sort-of controlled anger, and it was helping her to get this all out. Then again, maybe ranting on to her new third seat’s zanpakuto spirit was not the best thing to be doing at the moment. “You ask me why I am so emotionally attached so soon. It is necessary for me to be attached as if I was not attached, I would merely treat my Squad members as tools and things to be easily disposed of. I highly doubt that anybody in my squad would like that,” she flashed a grin in Alestha’s direction, “And anyway, I haven’t managed to get your name yet, so it seems.”

Alestha slowly turned her head to Shizuka and stared at her with utmost interest. "All alone..." she said softly whilst still gazing at Shizuka. "What is all alone and happiness then...? And my name is for Linuen to say and know." She added and then turned to Linuen's freezing body. "Wake up..." she whispered and suddenly Linuen began to shout his lungs out. He was struggling as if trying to get out from the spike in his chest but his eyes were still closed. With a bone-shattering crash, the spike broke to thousands of pieces and Linuen dropped at the ground with a loud thud. He immediately opened his eyes and gasped for air whilst clenching his chest wound. He looked around and saw Shizuka but she was all alone, Alestha was now gone from sight. Suddenly, the dome became wider in a matter of seconds, so wide that Shizuka will be forced to move backwards.
"Shizuka-Taichou!" Linuen called out to her but his voice seemed closed within the frigid walls of Alestha. He looked around and immediately realized that a girl is standing before him. Alestha was standing before him with a odd look on her face, as if interested. Linuen shivered in both fear and coldness he felt. With a blink of an eye, a spear appeared in Linuen's right hand; he was dumbstruck.
"You proved your worth in your endurance." Alestha said. "However, we shall know this time if you are worthy."
In a snap, there was a loud crashing sound in the dome and the area was filled with chilly smoke. No one from the outside could see what was happening inside so it was a total mystery on what happened to Linuen and Alestha.

Alestha’s cryptic messages were irritating her beyond belief and it had cut her deeply to have to endure watching her own third seat go through pain and all that. Ah well, he was prepared and he was worthy of whatever power Alestha would bestow upon him. Hopefully, he would be able to complete everything Alestha asks of him. Getsuei eyed Shizuka warily, a puzzled expression on her face. “What’s the matter, Getsuei?” Shizuka asked, closing her eyes. Getsuei seemed at a loss for words, but she summoned and attempted to make a sensible statement. “How come you’re just letting him go? Just like that? You don’t even know what they might be doing…inside that dome-thingy,” Getsuei muttered. Shizuka half-opened one of her eyes and gazed steadfastly at the dome. “I trust him. I believe he’s ready.” Shizuka replied quietly. Getsuei shook her head in disbelief, “Well, Shizuka, we shall see…we shall see.”

Linuen skipped in his right side as a spear flung in the air and struck the ground where he was lastly standing. He gasped in shock as he saw the ground around turn to ice. However, before he could think of the next thing, the spear exploded and thousands of ice spikes burst from the ground and made a huge obelisk before Linuen. Due to the intensity of the explosion, he got thrown away adding up with shards of icicles stuck at parts of his body when the skill activated. He dropped at the ground several feet away with a dull thud. He groaned in pain as he looked around, looking through the chilly mist that surrounds the area.
Suddenly, there was a stabbing pain that occurred in his back. He yelled in pain and scrambled forward, coughing out blood at the same time. He was astonished to see Alestha behind him with her spear smeared with his blood. She was gazing at him with such an empty expression. He felt so alone and defenseless. How could he be so weak? How could he not defend himself? He wondered to himself. He wanted to cry out for Shizuka but she can't enter this place without causing his Zanpakutou to fail his test.
"Yo-You're going to kill me?!" Linuen exclaimed, his voice trembling. "You can't kill me!"
She pointed the spear at him. "Actually, I can. If my master is so weak that he cannot control me, then it is better that you die along with me. My life is pointless with such a weak person. It is pitiful." She snapped back at him. Without another word from her, she draw her spear and threw it with a powerful force that is so not in accordance to what she looked like. The spear shot towards Linuen but picking up his own spear, he deflected it and then dashed at Alestha.
And then the horror struck him in instant, the spear he deflected earlier had a string attached to it and with a swift pull from Alestha, it swerved its path and came back at Linuen. He gasped but turning around, he was too late. The spear immediately struck him in shoulder and he immediately dropped at the ground yelling in pain.
Alestha walked towards him with hateful eyes. "Burst!" She said and then made a snap wit her fingers. There was a short snapping sound and the area around Linuen's body exploded with crackling huge icicles.

She could feel the fact that he felt so alone and defenseless and it took all of her energy to stop herself from saving Linuen. To tell the truth, it wouldn’t take too much of her energy to do that, but… she had to stay for his sake until it became too dangerous. Then she would move but not before. Getsuei, who had been carefully watching Shizuka for the last few minutes, rolled her eyes, mumbling “Anyway, all this business is tiring me. You can always find me if you must so I think I’ll take my leave”. Shizuka nodded and Getsuei disappeared. Suddenly a thought struck her. She could help but not…really interfere. After all, it wasn’t like she was taking his place in fighting just merely boosting him up. Keeping her eyes closed, she muttered, “Bankai. Tekateka Getsuei” under her breath and without pausing, continued with her next word which would activate her first stage of her Bankai, “Mikadzuki.” Her weapon morphed against into a thinner and lighter sword but she ignored it. Perfect.
Thoughts from the others flowed into her and she slowly deciphered through Linuen’s thoughts, wincing slightly at the fact that Alestha was telling him that she would kill him if he was too weak. Sheesh. That zanpakuto spirit was a piece of nasty work and it was lucky that she had Linuen instead of that zanpakuto. Reaching out her mind, she projected her thoughts into Linuen’s brain, hoping that he wouldn’t be too frightened by the idea of her voice echoing in his head. Don’t be worried, Linuen, you’ll be fine. I trust you and my faith is entirely with you. Don’t be scared by your zanpakuto’s nature – fight with all of your strength. Her eyes remained shut as she finished her message to him, waiting for a reply in his thoughts or for something else to appear in his mind.

Taichou? Taichou? Is that you? I-I can't feel my body; it's aching all over. I think-I think I'm going to die here... Linuen slowly opened his eyes and found himself encased in a thick, large icicles that could have caused his death if they all impaled him. Nonetheless, he felt like dying because it was so cold he couldn't feel anything anymore. It felt like the coldness of the area would hurt more rather than being hit by those icicles. He shook his slightly looking through the crytal-clear icicles and gazed at Alestha's position; she was looking back at him with an intrigued expression.
But no... I'm not going to die here, Taichou! I'll prove that to you! I won't be weak just like Sensei said I am and I'll proved to everyone that I'm his protege that he trained! At that moment, Linuen pulled all his strength and then released a tremendous amount of reiatsu. The icicles around him broke into thousands of pieces with a strong shattering sound. He stood up and then glared at Alestha, who was now looking at him with such a shocked face. He pointed his spear at her showing her that he can still fight.
"Interesting indeed, Linuen." His Zanpakutou said. "I do guess that your Sensei's hard work did pay off, crybaby." She added and then with a blink of an eye, disappeared in front of him.
With a brief moment, Linuen felt a cold presence behind him. He wasted no moment and then waved his spear towards his back and with a short clash, his and Alestha's spear connected. She looked amused but her smirk caught him off guard. "Snap." She said and then with another loud shattering sound, Linuen's spear broke into two, landing ta the ground with a loud thud like glass. He gasped and then skipped backwards, away from the Zanpakutou. However, her long range caught him slightly when she waved her spear towards him and injured him at his right shoulder.
He pointed his finger at her. "Sho!" he yelled and a burst of reiatsu came out of the top of his finger and shot towards her. She didn't expect that he would use a Kido so she gasped in shock and then coated herself with a thick shield of ice. The Kido landed with the shield with a loud crash and the shield shattered to pieces. She glared at him as he caught his breath whilst looking back at her.
"I'm not a crybaby!" Linuen yelled at her, his voice booming all around the dome.

Well, it didn’t seem like he was going to collapse anything soon but the zanpakuto’s comments were hardly necessary. His Sensei definitely had given him strength to move forward, which was good. Linuen was doing very well, even using Kido. It seemed as if Kido surprised Alestha quite a bit, so maybe that was the way forward. She mused quietly for a bit, her own thoughts jumbling up as Linuen yelled. Ouch. Having these many thoughts in her head was a little distracting at times. Ah well. She’d have to do a little bit of an informal teaching session, using the telepathic link she had formed. It was not the usual thing, but then again, she’d never actually trained somebody in her entire life. Maybe it was about time that she started getting used to it. So far from what she could tell, Alestha was armed with a spear and he was unarmed since his spear had been broken. Her mind worked fast, going through all the possibilities. He’d have to use brute force mainly to get out of this, but maybe some Kido too. Unfortunately, she didn’t know too many Kido herself, except for one. Wait, that might be useful. She projected her thoughts into Linuen’s head again, making sure that Alestha would not be able to hear her. Yes, yes, it’s me. Now, don’t worry, you’re doing fine particularly since this is a rather unbalanced fight, since you’re unarmed and she’s armed. Anyway, this is a little awkward, but I’m going to teach you a Kido, that should be able to help you a little bit. Now, this is called Rikujōkōrō and basically, I need you to repeat these words after me and focus everything on Alestha. Say, ‘Carriage of Thunder. Bridge of a spinning wheel. With light, divide this into six!’ Shizuka channelled the way to summon this Kido straight into his mind, so that he would be able to feel what it was like and attempt to recreate it. She telepathically spoke into his mind, Now, if this works, which it hopefully should, Your zanpakuto should be paralysed for a period of time. Since you are currently unarmed, you’ll have to deal with physical power alone for the meantime. Aim two kicks – one to her legs and one to her stomach – and then punch her as hard as you possibly can. Don’t hesistate or else she’ll take advantage of that. Via the link, she attempted to send the ideas of the basics of kicking and punching, bringing one’s leg in a wide curve with one’s entire weight behind it and the same with the punching.

Linuen nodded in response to his captain and then in that instant, he dashed at Alestha. He didn't know what that Kido does but he remembered that it was a rather high-level one around 60's. He sighed in frustration and thought that he needs to train in Kido big time. However, at the current moment, he needed to get out alive of his Zanpakutou's dome. He yelled at her as she gazed silently at him back. With a strong draw of his strength, Linuen attacked her with tremendous force using his fists, looking for an opening where she might be caught off-guard when he strikes the Kido. She simply giggled at his attempts and skipped backward but she held her spear downwards, meaning she wasn't expecting anything.
At that instant, he pointed his hand at her and then thought of what Shizuka told him earlier. "Carriage of Thunder. Bridge of a spinning wheel. With light, divide this into six!" he concentrated his reiatsu at his hands and with a quite burst of energy in his palms, the Kido worked and shot towards Alestha. The Zanpakutou looked astonished and never looked so pale as the Kido swiftly rode the wind towards her. A solitary rectangular plate formed as it went to Alestha. The first one struck her midsection and she was pushed backwards because of the intensity of the Kido. She gasped in shocked and then glared at him. However, before she could use her spear to attack him back, five other rectangular plates struck her again with each section sealing her entire waistline looking like a bloomed flower with rectangular petals. Her eyes widened in shock as she looked at her position.
"You suck at Kido!" she yelled at the top of her lungs. "How come you managed to use a high-leveled Kido at your level?!" she added whilst struggling to get out of the confinement. She let out another blood-curdling shriek that was similar to a shout mixed with panic and frustration. But when she turned to Linuen again, he was standing in front of her with a smirk on his face.
"Therefore, you are done." He said softly before planting a powerful single strike at her stomach. Even though she looked like a small girl, he knew that she must not be taken lightly. In a single moment, she could kill him. He wouldn't let her do that now. The punch was so strong that she dropped at the ground with a faint groan. There was a sudden cracking sound and Linuen looked upwards. He smiled as he saw the dome cracking to thousands of pieces. The battle was now over.

Alestha didn’t seem to be expecting anything, from Linuen’s thoughts, so that was good. He’d need to be moving soon. As the Kido worked and shot towards Alestha, Shizuka almost felt like jumping up and yelling in joy. Well, at least, she had been able to help in some way. Linuen had proved himself to definitely go far and beyond what she had expected of him, certainly he was worthy, if not better, than what the Academy had written. Even his Kido was good, since it usually took people a while to learn such a high-level Kido. She pulled a wry smile. Then again, not all people had thoughts and the feelings of actually using the Kido implanted in their minds. As Alestha yelled, an impish smile appeared on Shizuka’s face, one that neither Linuen nor Alestha would be able to see. Idiot. That spirit had completely underestimated the power of her own master – something that was, needless to say, an extremely foolish thing to do. She sent a quiet telepathic message into Alestha’s head, who would hear a distinctively smug voice reverberating in her head, Didn’t I tell you that Linuen was ready? Sheesh…
As the dome cracked into thousands of pieces, Shizuka’s smile became more pronounced and grew wider. Her eyes flew open but her arm automatically rose to cover her eyes against the blind of the sun. Damn. She hadn’t been prepared for that. How irritating. Her arm stayed there for a short while as her eyes readjusted themselves to the light. Eventually, though, she could see completely fine and she stood up, rubbing her eyes a little bit. As she took in the image of Linuen, she sighed in relief, her tense body relaxing its muscles. However, soon she noticed the fact that there was moisture leaking from the sides of her eyes. What? Crap. She wasn’t meant to show too much emotion around people and she rearranged her face, although still managing to look extremely proud of her Third Seat. Against all odds, he had managed to defeat his own zanpakuto spirit. A voice echoed in her head – it was Getsuei. Well, look who’s getting all sentimental on me… Shizuka wiped the moisture from her eyes, a smile still hovering on the edge of her lips as she gazed at Linuen. She said nothing but instead projected one last message into his mind to congratulate him. Well done. You were…really…excellent out there even though the fight was not in your favour. Keep up the good work.
