"Right," There was no other way to respond than to agree, but it was more than that. It wasn't so much the possibility of getting hurt, as the anticipation of the pain that would be caused that was at stake here. "But once they're off the road... you can stop looking over your shoulder.
"The anticipation of death is worse than death itself. It's that fear, that knowing it'll happen someday." He shrugged, shaking his head. "Either way, it's going to hurt - it's not something you can avoid, so whether it's sooner or later, it's still going to happen. What you can change, though, is how long you spend fearing its arrival."
And the more you waited, the scarier it got, he supposed, with fear building on anticipation, and the anticipation fueled further by the fear... it was a cycle, one of many that existed in their lives, but a terrible cycle that Taqa imagined could only end in a downward spiral to destruction.
Difficult as it might be to break out of the loop, he knew it was necessary.

Tawi couldn't believe it, he didn't understand, he should have understood. Once again she had wasted her time with this young male when she could have been out there walking away from her problems instead of letting them creep up on her yet again. Immediately she was on her paws and started pacing in front of him, tailed flicking about in utter frustration. This reinforced her reasons for never stopping, never trying to talk to others or explain her situation because no one understand. "That's not it at all Taqa." She exclaimed as her eyes finally looked upon young tattooed male, her voice was a bit snappish now.
"I do not fear death, death is unavoidable. I will welcome my death when it comes to me." Pacing stopped for a moment as her head shook letting out a soft growl. "I thought you of all lions would understand...I was wrong." Turning she began to stalk off, ready to go back to her life of eternal walking and loneliness. "I have wasted too much time with you." Tawi called over her shoulder though her eyes remained forward. "Forget you ever met me, for you will never see me again." Huffing Tawi continued to pad away from the male and back towards the unknown. She didn't need him, she didn't need anyone, all Tawi needed was her paws to carry her and the occasional meal to fill her belly.

He couldn't exactly say that he was surprised by the declaration. Her reaction, perhaps, but the fact that he hadn't hit the mark - or whatever it was she had seemed to want him to do - didn't come as much of a shock. Somehow.
"Understand what, Tawi?" He asked, with a small, helpless shake of his head. His voice remained calm, but somewhere inside him, he felt a little irritation pricking at him, even though he knew it wasn't fair of him to feel that way. It wasn't either of their faults. "You haven't actually told me anything... I wish I understood, I do, but there's nothing I can do if you won't just let me." And he understood that maybe it was difficult for her to trust him, to trust anybody, but... how was she supposed to get over whatever it was that was plaguing her, if she didn't give him a chance?
And so he watched her as she turned and padded away for the second time, into that vast and endless world that was no place to call home. He pained him to realize that, for a moment, it had seemed as though she had gotten so close to understanding - understanding what he had wanted to say. But...
Maybe she was right. Maybe he couldn't help her, and maybe she was better off on her own. But none of it was up to him, and if she did disappear forever, he would consider it a lesson learned for the both of them, and that would be that. But if not, he would still be there, waiting, if only to show her that the world wasn't out to give up on her every time she tried to run away. Life was a decent place. She just hadto learn to embrace it.
