Pieprsn2 the avenger
Amy the Pioneer of Iria

Because I can't find it anywhere else, what style is the comic going to be in? Manga? Or something else?

I think that's all up to the artist. You can draw the pages however you want, just be sure to draw them from left to right since this will be in English. :3

Mmk. So, chibis are okay too? (well, chibis every now and then, not like an entire page?..)

@the main discussion right now:

...Boooo. Character designs D:. Heads/faces = one story, clothing = another. Trying to put the both of them together = bleh. *continues to doodle the minute details*

Random ideas!: The boy should have curly/wavy hair. To me, wavy hair looks really cute or fancy like a prince, but at the same time it could look messy, like a drifter trying to sell you something on the streets.

And does anyone know that scene from Aladdin when Jasmine sneaks out of the palace wearing some type of commoner shawl over her normal princess outfit? Would that work for the boy?

o: Yea, then the styling of the curly/wavy hair (messy, combed all neatly, tied back in a low ponytail, etc.?) would also be a factor in the 'role' of the hair.

Holy cow...how to sum all that up...give me a bit guys and I'll update this post.

For the characters' designs, do we want 'em to look all Godly or more down-to-earth?
The 'Kingdoms of Light and Dark' thing makes me think crazy-sparkly-omg-lookit-that clothes/designs but, while it'd look really cool, it could be hard to draw. *all for complecated designs*

And is the boy royality too?
Personally I'd like to make the designs royal-ish. Based off of something I suppose.

I was thinking of the characters of somewhat rebellious myself.

PS. I was imagining the main character with curly hair also XD

And I think I'll try and mix all the ideas together and see what we get. So far though, I think Taka's idea is the strongest because it feels the most beleiveable.

Question 1. Relative time period?
Question 2. Names and ages.
Question 3. Should we include powers? Or I guess that would cover the kingdom's purposes of light and dark
Question 4. technology? Personally I kind of like Nausicaa (of the Valley of the Wind)'s type of countryside, and technology. They have limited, but at the same time advanced, technology. But they still seem to live in a time period that looks older.

Ok, so obviously the two main characters try to trade the boy's pottery.

Here's my idea. The contrast between kingdoms have been waning in recent years; the light kingdom slowly becomes corrupt, while the dark kingdom introduces ideas like a democratic type of ruling. The light kingdom starts to appear more superficially good, rules being made to keep the ruling class at an advantage over the poorer classes. The formerly dictator-style dark kingdom demands more control throughout all the classes, which the ruling class can't help to become more lenient to avoid conflict.

The boy sees how corrupt his kingdom has become and detests the superficial standards he has to follow. So adding Taka's idea, the treaty has to be signed in order to attempt to achieve the previous balance the two countries had, and of course to avoid war (I suppose). However, I kind of like the idea that the two countries had to trade each other's pottery, the girl with a priceless vase, and the boy with a lot cheaper pot; this will obviously be an unfair trade. Then the sparks flare. But that doesn't exactly explain why they needed to trade in the first place.

Maybe we should stick to this:
Quote:
On the way to B's kingdom, A is stopped by a handsome boy trying to sell his porly pottery at very high prices. The boy is very persistant but the princess turns her nose up at it and reffers to it as cheap crap. The pottery boy( who is actually our hot tempered prince) is offened by this and tells her that she couldn't do much better ( or says something really...witty). The princess fumes at this and declairs that she's the best potter/crafter in her kingdom ( even though it's really only so/so but no one would ever tell her that). The prince is veru smug with her and denies her claim unless she can prove it to him. Still fuming the princess tells her guards to deliver her message to B's kingdom ( remember she doesn't know the pottery boy is actually the prince yet) while she stays behind a little longer to prove herself to the little pheasent. Reluctantly, all but one guard goes ahead. The remaining guard is her personal guard and old friend.

But I still like the idea that he is captured first because of the mess he causes, breaking the priceless heirloom the princess was carrying, and injuring the guards as he tries to escape. He does this under the guise of a peasant. But I guess he should be wearing some sort of medallion that is proof of his royalty, that isn't visible.

So to sum it up so far, the boy is selling his pottery for some extra cash since his kingdom is low on funds, while the girl is travelling to establish a treaty. Perhaps the fear of assimilation is only shared by the older generation as borders weaken, and the two (or at least the girl) think otherise and tries to connect the two countries in another way. Of course, the prince gets in the way of her plans xd

I also like this idea:
Quote:

One tribe look so neat and pristine while the other was very messy and rugged. We could possibly use something like that for our base of the comic and characters.

Although instead of one side appearing grubby and the other clean, I think the reflection should be in the designs. One side (most likely the girl since som far they seem to have more money) wear more expensive and elaborate styles of clothing since they can dish out the moolah. The boy's kingdom has, although stylish, plainer and cheaper clothing. But of course, he'll most likely wear grubby, tattered clothing outside of his kingdom.

Descriptions
Boy:
The boy/prince is selling pottery because the kingdom he's in is very poor, though they put a strong facade on to prevent commoners from knowing. I also think that he's doing this against his parents wishes. The selling would solve money problems in the short run, but he doesn't think of what the long term causes are of selling his kingdom's pottery. He can be insulting, and crude, he does know how to behave like royalty. He just prefers not to. Most likely because he doesn't believe what his parents believe.

I like this idea.
Quote:
The boy is a prince, true, but he sneaks out to sell his pottery in secret, and is later forced into servitude, so I suppose he would be dressed very plain for the most part of the story, while dressed extravagantly for the part when he's back in his home land and assuming the role of a prince?

As for his appearance, I think this should most likely be his look outside the kingdom:
Quote:
The prince could have messy bedhead wear loose-fitting-low-quality-fabric-having-clothes.

The girl: Strong-willed and much more well-mannered and behaves with an air of royalty, much more than the prince does anyway. Once she sets a goal she always follows out. Though she respects her mother and her wishes, which is to be the perfect princess (follow the rules, follow others' lead, obedient), she only behaves "perfect" in the public eye (so kings, advisers, gatherings) and is less princess-like in private. Meaning she plots and thinks of ways to change current things.

Her appearance is dainty and beautiful (since she can afford good clothes)

So to sum, sum this up, this:
Quote:
Two different kingdoms, two hot-heads, two 'like' personalities. It often makes for on hell of a romance AND comedy ( see what i did thar >.> )lots and lots of awkward "he did not just do that" moments.

So far so good guys? Anyone else want to refine the ideas we have so far? Agree or disagree?

Haha that works for me : D

Edit: We could give the people in general light and dark related powers to help highlight who's 'light' and who's 'dark'. Having the light side in soft clean colors like whites, gold's,...royal colors and the darkside ( lol) in dark browns, reds, earthy tones and also help hight light that idea.

Ages.... >.> teens...maybe late teens since these guys are going out of their kingdoms pretty much....by themselves <.<;;;

I agree with the technology idea. Giving the upper-crust ( mostly the light side) more access to 'rare' things like technology would help show the differences in wealth the kingdoms have. It doesn't 'have' to be anything fancy. One side could get their water from wells our outside taps while the other has nice spakly sinks inside. It's a simple idea but it leaves alot of room for growth.

Names might come with faces.
On a side note. I think the princess' father should be a large enough man to scare boys away which....could be where she gets her strong personality from o.O

Ichigo
I'd
The girl is very strong-willed and once she sets a goal she always goes full out. But, her kingdom expects her to be the kind of princess she detests :: One that follows all the rules, one who follows others lead and never disobeys.
Her mother, the queen has been very sick and is on her death bed. Her last request to her daughter is for her to be the kind of princess she hates. So the princess acts like the "perfect" princess in front of the kings and the advisers. But whenever she gets the chance, she goes to her hideaway and plots out ways to change things in her kingdom for the better.

I like this hard headed, sorta bitchy girl idea. But the idea that the boy's country is so poor that the Prince has to sell pottery is a bit unrealistic. Why pottery for instance?

My idea:
How about we have the Prince's country is in debt to the other country but the Prince's country is large and very artistic. The Prince loved the court painters and artists while his father forced him to be around the finest generals and fighters. Somehow, he manages to sneak out and learn art under a poor immigrant from the Princess' country. The immigrant is ill and needs money to repay loan sharks so the Prince himself goes out to sell his wares. He thinks that the Princess would be a great target to sell his teacher's artworks but gets pissed when the Princess turns her nose up at it.
Then they fight and he goes to jail. Maybe the pottery teacher can turn out to be a great sculpture in the Princess' country but left when her father decided to turn their country(which was small and considered in danger from the Prince's giant country--but this is a bit true as the Prince's father is considering to wage war to steal their riches) into a military/technological(by medieval standards) country. The King declared art to be time wastin' and had poets, writers, and useless artists drafted. The Princess' mom was against this and the Princess was an apreciator of the arts and wanted to see the Prince's kingdom to view it's many galleries and sculptures(think Venice?)

Because there's a surplus of clay/whatever they use to make pottery?

ohyea, sorry to ruin the mood: but if we're going to have some uberpro artistic character, then we'll probably need some uberpro artist to draw it out.. probably?

The prince could be selling pottery because he understands that his kingdom is poor. He's not afraid to get his hands and clothes dirty to help bring in money to the people he cares for. I'd also imagine that he would do little 'odds and ends' jobs to help when needed.
On a side note, pottery, paintings, and other crafts were a big thing years ago and in some countries they still are a good source of revenue for people. So, if we do decide to have the comic set in a old, partially developed( meaning technology is rare and expensive to come by) time, having the prince selling pottery would work.

@ taka :: That sounds pretty good. ;D

Also, I like he partially developed technology idea.

For the character's looks ::

The boy having curly, bed-headish hair is perfect, I think. With the loose fitting clothes when he's out and about.
Oh~ And skin tones... I think that the boy could be tanned, cause his country is very sunny and hot.

And the girl could be fair skinned, cause in her country being fair-skinned is a sign of wealth.

--

As for if the characters have powers or not ::
I think that if the characters were to have powers at all, they'd have to be very weak and rare among the people.

--

Names and ages ::

I think teens for the ages. Maybe the older teens -- Like 16-17?
For the names I have a few suggestions ::

Girl --

Bianca -- Meaning "white, pure, and fair"
Sarah -- Meaning "princess"

--

How about this? I'd just like to put this out here but...the dark kingdom, since so far they seem wealthier can afford more technology so they use it more (employs less workers) while the other has more workers (although not payed that well, money is spread thinner)

Ichigo: 16-17 sounds good to me. I actually like Bianca. The meaning reminds me of Snow White.
