Areion shifts uncomfortably. "I left before I could see her again," he says, hoping his slightly sharp tone will get her to leave the subject alone. If that mare invaded his head one more time in his new life, he'd be across the ocean in a heartbeat to see her, without even knowing what had happened.
"Only the best of kings were allowed - or able - to ride me. All the others who tried were either killed or thrown off and stomped on, and then killed. But I've never killed a human that wasn't an enemy. There have been horrible human males that would torture the human females; the females who were always pleasant to me. And there were the men who tried to kill me. Battle is.. unpleasant, to say the least. But it's better when there is someone who can protect your back with their life - literally." He sighs, knowing she probably won't understand. "Besides, if a human tried to ride you, it'd probably hurt your wings."
He eyes her suspiciously at the "not to age" comment. "Not being able to age makes for uncomfortable situations. I'll have to fight as long as I live. I will never be able to grow old and be put to pasture. I'll always have blood and guts to step through - which would be awful, for me."
He sighs and looks at her, sensing what he think might be a vulnerability. "I'm grieved to hear that, Darkest. You're quite fascinating. I'm sorry others didn't take long enough to get know that before they hurt you."
Areion stands and stretches before walking carefully toward Darkest, giving her time to tell him to sit his butt down if she doesn't want him there. He wants to comfort her, but figures that she might not need comforting.

Darkest smirks to herself as the stallion shifts uncomfortably. So there is still something there. "Indeed." She leaves it at that, but the glint in her eye says she might bring it up later.
She snorts contemptuously at him. "Only kings? What does it matter? You still let them and one human is like the next." Her long tail flicks with irritation. "You don't get it do you? ALL humans are an enemy! They may think their on different sides, but one and all their all the same." Her head gives a shake. "I don't know about that. I enjoy battle. Particularly when I crush my opponents." She shrugs, "Wouldn't know I never let one try to ride and I never will."
Darkest blinks at him. "Why would you Want to be 'put to pasture'? What a horrible, dull thought. I would much rather die fighting than of old age." She gives a delicate quiver down her haunch and gestures with a hoof towards him. "Once fighting is in your blood and you try to pasture, you'll see what I mean. Day after day of the same thing."
She gives him a glare. "If you think sympathy is going to work with me your wrong. It's because of them that you find me so interesting now." As he gets up and starts to walk over her wings rustle in agitation. She certainly didn't want the stallion getting mushy on her. If he tried he was gonna find his butt in the rain.

When Darkest snorts, Areion is a bit taken aback. He was expecting something like... a glint of respect, maybe. Not from this mare, though, obviously - he shakes his head, feeling extremely stupid. What was with him today? His intuition might be failing because of the rain... Yes, that's it, he decided. No way could she get the best of me so easily.
"I don't like battle. But it's what I was trained to do as a foal. I know nothing else, and I'd like to relax for once, rather than always be on the tips of my hooves and flinching at every noise." He looked at his hooves and pawed a forefoot. "I want a mare who will stay, rather than some flighty little -"
He stopped, knowing it was already too late to take that back. Any intelligent horse - especially this mare - would've noticed that. Why was he telling her things like that? Dear Athena, lend me guidance, he prayed, taking a deep breath.
Areion sighs and lays back down on the stony floor, hoping to show that he's done with whatever annoyed her enough to get up and spit words at him like that. "Ugh, mares..." he grumbles under his breath, resting his chin on the floor.
Bored after a little while, Areion figures it's time for things to get... "interesting". "So..." he says casually, throwing a glance to the cave entrance. He tries to hide a grin and isn't sure if it works. "How do you like the rain?"

She pretends not to notice his attitude or his head shaking. Let the silly stallion sort himself out. Her ear flicks towards the entrance and listens to the rain coming down. Still going strong? Darn, I need to move soon. Her eyes drift towards the stallion to see if he's gotten himself under control.
"Really? So what if you know nothing else?" Her lip curls, "Unless you don't know how to fend for yourself in the wild." As a thought pops into her mind her eyes examine his nearest side for any signs of gauntness. She certainly wasn't going to baby him.
Her ears come up as he breaks off mid sentence. She almost pounces on the silence. "Will stay with you?" The gleam back in her eyes as her tail wiggles like when a cat senses prey. She almost chuckles at him. Isn't that what every stallion wants? A mare or a few to fawn on him.
By the time he speaks again, she's relaxing with her eyes half closed. It was nice to have a full belly and a dry warm spot to lay while listening to rain patter outside. She liked listening as the rain soothed her. When Areion speaks breaking the tranquility she shifts restlessly. "In what way?"

"I can survive if I have to," Areion says angrily at her degrading comment. He grinds his teeth. Insolent mare...
He sighs. He was right - she'd picked up on his lack of ability to shut up tonight. "Yes, Darkest. Haven't you ever met a stallion who you just want to stay with and never leave? I had that with that little... Gah." He throws his head to the side, ashamed. "I want someone with whom to belong."
A few seconds later, he realizes that she's taken the bait. He pushes himself to his hooves and shakes out his coat. "Oh, you know..." He walks slowly and deliberately toward her. Excited, Areion realizes he's never used this tactic on a mare before. Always the sweet, gentlemanly approach. Done with that, he thinks, and grins. The warhorse in me needs to come out for once in a long while... A fight sounds nice right about now, and she'll oblige. She has to.
He stops when he's right next to her. "How about a bath?" he says, and tries to hip-check her out into the rain.

Darkest seems to consider his comment then smirks. "Nope. All of the ones I've met have been beneath me. And don't give me that bullshit about starting a family, blah blah blah." She tosses her head.
As Areion gets to his feet, he could probably see her body tensing. Her ears go back against her skull as he actually has the balls to walk towards her. Obviously not getting the hint when he stops right beside her. The moment his coat touches her she moves into action. Quick as a snake she goes to snap at him; if he doesn't move in time she Will bite.
"A bath? Are you as demented as the humans who rode you?! Bloody horse!" She turns to face him squarely. Her head low and fangs bared; eyes flashing angrily as her wings move up. The claws at the joint show their wicked points.

Areion scoffs at her "beneath me" comment. "You got that right. You're about to stomp me into the ground, if I understand right. And it's not bullshit, Darkest," he says seriously, glaring at her. "It's what I want. It has nothing to do with you."
He laughs and dances away from her teeth as she reaches for a bite. "Not bad, Darkest," he growls, and steps out into the rain. "But you're out of your element. Would you like to come have a dance in the rain?"
Areion rolls his shoulders and stretches for a second. It's been a while since he's had a good fight - but not so long that he's unprepared. He smirks. "C'mon, kitty kitty," he hisses at her. He's in a taunting mood. His sea-green tail swishes arrogantly in the rain. This is his turf now.

"Tish," she scoffs at him. "Suit yourself, but you'd better keep it that way."
Darkest stands up and paws the ground. "Do not claim what you do not know. You've no idea what my element is." She gives a dark chuckle.
She watches him stroll out into the rain then drawls lazily. "Tough talk from a stallion whos got to hide in the rain. Too cowardly to face me honestly?" She laughs and prances out into the rain.
As soon as the rain touches her back she's after him with teeth snapping. More than ready to tear a few new holes into his hide. From her back her wings rise up into a seemingly odd position for the joints are above her head with the wings still folded.

"Ha ha!" Areion cries in a singsong voice as he hides behind the curtains of rain. "Hiding in the rain? There was not room for a good fight inside, and you know it, Darkest. I hope you're ready!"
He dodges her teeth carefully, and successfully manages to avoid all but one of her bites - it catches him on the ear, punching a hole through it. Furious, he rears and kicks at her with his front hooves before circling around to where he knows the path down through the mountains is hiding in the night. If he must surrender, he will only do it by fading away into the darkness. She has advantages that she does not - claws, teeth, wings - and Areion won't risk scars in his first week in a new land.
"Oh, before this is over, Darkest -" he yells over the pounding rain, hoping to confuse her "-do you think we'll ever meet again?"

"There was only not enough room in the cave for your ego."
She feels her teeth sink into his ear and about to give a vicious shake when his hoofs thud into her chest. Darkest gives a hiss feeling the contact and lashes her wing claw towards his nearest side. Missing as the stallion pulls back into the rain.
She gives a dark chuckle as her eyes flash golden. Confidently she comes down the path. Her eyes catching glimpses of the stallion through the rain as he retreats down the path. Her blood was up with the thrill of the chase and taste of first blood. She wanted more. "That depends silly stallion. If I don't kill you here, and if I choose not to then if your stupidity doesn't get you killed by something else."

Areion, suddenly realizing he is in real danger, backs down the path a little way, rocks clattering under his hooves. "I've never heard of whatever this 'ego' thing is that you speak of. I certainly don't have one, as I've never heard of it," he says, trying to keep the panic out of his voice. He is buying time, now. Practically borrowing it, he thinks. This mare is crazy.
"Kill me, Darkest?" He laughs nervously. "Do I really deserve that? Did I do something so wrong that I must die?"
Lightning flashes somewhere nearby, and he sees a flash of her gold eyes in the darkness. That's when he discovers that he's standing on the edge of the narrow road, practically half off of it. "Oh, gods save me..." he whispers, and feels himself slip sideways a little off the rock. "Darkest?" he says tentatively. "If you want to fight with me another day, I'm going to need your help... Very soon!"

Darkest hears the rocks giving away the stallion's position and steps carefully in that direction. She prided herself on moving quietly, even on the unfamiliar ground. "I don't believe you've never heard of it. It's something that swells your head so big you can't see when your getting yourself into danger." She almost purrs in pleasure with this hunt. (If he thinks she's crazy he should meet the rest of the herd! J/K!)
"What would I care if you deserve it or not Areion? It would amuse me to kill you and watch your life's blood seep into the ground. That is all the reason I need if I really wanted one." She can smell him now, even through the rain. He was close.
Her ears flick as she tries to catch his whispered words. The next bolt of lightning flashes off her bared fangs. "Let me see if I get this right. I save you, I then become a god and you'll fight me another day. Did I miss anything?" She stands watching him, plainly enjoying his...situation.

He slides a little further to the side. One of his hooves clatters over the edge. He snorts. "Ah yes. Then my ego is bigger than Mount Olympus, I imagine. Uhm... I can see the danger of challenging you now, but it's been fun, hasn't it?" He quivers and tries not to look down at his feet.
"Well, knowing as little about you that I do, I would say that you wouldn't care. But a pure Kalona would let me die and enjoy licking my blood off the rocks beneath this cliff," Areion says nonchalantly. "But... Wait! You're not a pure Kalona, are you? Surely your heart is warmer than that." The rain pounds on the rocks around him. He can't see a thing except a black curtain of rain and black night beyond that. Everything is dark.
He sees her teeth shining very close to him when the next lightning bolt strikes somewhere off in the distance. "Well, Darkest," he says nervously, trying anything he can to get out of this condemned situation he was put in, "As the agressive mare I know you to be, wouldn't like it if you could fight me and possibly deflate my ego another day? And as for a god, I was praying to my own." He peers desperately into the darkness in front of him, hoping desperately for some sign of a hopefully friendly movement.

Darkest laughs in the night as he admits to his ego. Whatever Mount Olympus was, but it sounded big. "I'm so glad you've seen the error of your ways." She purrs maliciously.
"Silly stallion. A pure would give you a hoof to help you over the edge. Then they would enjoy eating your mangled carcass." She circles around to the side. "Now me, I'm of either mind here. I could save you, but what do I get for it? Besides challenging you another day I mean. Or, I could simply let you fall. It would also please me no end, to hear you scream as you plummet then cut off as you hit bottom." To emphasize what she's saying she kicks a good sized rock off; listening for the long drop and sudden stop at the end.
"So tell me Areion. What will you give me if I save you tonight?" Her voice is like cold death in the icy night.

He listens to her cold laughter, dread filling his heart. There's nearly nothing he can do to save himself without her help. He tries to bring his hoof back onto the rock, and, much to his surprise, he succeeds. But he has nowhere to go - he is cornered between her and the cliff.
When Darkest pushes the stone off the ledge, fear grips him in a vice. Finally reaching full, cowardly desperation, he whimpers, "What is it you want?" The hoof he managed to bring back onto solid ground slipped back into the open air as he spoke. "What can I offer you? You have new land filled with prey and a herd for company - what could you want?"
