"Uhh," Marion hedged, squinting dubiously up into the trees, "I guess I don't know too much about them. There was something when my siblings and I were puppies; the alpha was getting into our business, and he was some crazy kind of brute." She smiled, enjoying her imagination. "Sort of guy who slits throats indiscriminately, you know? And he's got some crazy metal face, and big ram's horns, and looks like a ghoul..." She sighed. "Honestly, I don't really know. My sisters had some giant fight about a male from the pack, and I did my best to block it all out. It's a twisted pack, though. Very cruel." She sat down, finally, her legs sprawling rather indelicately. "All of the packs I've grown up around just sound boring as hell, really. Either it's All About Family, or it's All About the Fittest in these parts." She made a face. "Can you see any appeal in that?"

Her ears perked, intrigued by this description, but equally repulsed. "Sounds ghastly," she agreed, wondering what her old pack would have done if faced with such a figure, and finding the image somewhere between sad and laughable. At the other's question, she tilted her head. "They don't, really. But...well, what else is there? There's family, there's power....what else is there to live for?" Her eyes narrowed shrewdly. "Are you one of those wolves with, ah, Ideals and Aspirations?"

Marion laughed, a little coarsely, at the idea, and grinned appreciatively at her new buddy. "Gravy, no, I'm pretty sure I don't think anything is important. Well, not important enough to get a whole mess of wolves to agree with me, anyway." She twisted her muzzle a bit, thinking. "Well, there's adventure, isn't there? And, discovery. That has almost nothing to do with family or power." The idea bloomed in her mind like an amorphous sunset; the endless pull forward, the endless newness, a lifetime free of obligation. It felt a little personal, though, so she didn't quite try to put it into words, just bit her lips for a moment and waited to hear what Kamiya had to say.

"That's what Kailani thought," she said, with a nose wrinkle. "And likely to get a bunch of wolves killed trying to look for him, now that he's taken off to Pursue His Freedom and Leisure." The emphasis in her words was obvious, and she rolled her eyes a little, quite oblivious to the fact that she was talking primarily to herself. "But then I guess I'm the same way, depending how you look at it. Wanted out of my pack to see the world."

Her eyes narrowed, and a little irritation burbled inside her at the dissent. "Well, it's different if your an alpha's son. It means something different if you're abandoning something you're tied down to. But if I'm doing it, it's completely meaningless." And she got a little starry-eyed at the concept, the Marion of her imagination a striding, singular giant.

That sounded reasonable enough, and certainly seemed to fit with Kami's own beliefs on the topic. Her reflexive dislike of the other wolf was wearing off, piecemeal, but had not yet dissipated. "So what's keeping you then?"

That was a good question. Marion got what was really quite silent and reflective for her, taking a moment to look down at her ruddy forepaws. "What's keeping me. I guess I've just been waiting to take the leap," she said, looking up with a bearish grin. "And I gotta say, having you to talk to, I think that's the leap." Her tail thumped. "I'm gonna tear this mother apart. You wanna come?"

Her brows raised, a smirk upon her maw, but she shrugged. "Alright," she said, assenting -- hey, why not? "Where to?"

The big wolf hopped quite abruptly to her feet, her heart suddenly thumping in encouragement, and she look appraisingly around at their surroundings. "We should go east," she pronounced. "We can just go east until we get tired of it, or until we run into something worth stopping for." She gave Kamiya a look for conformation, but a little thought began to tug at her conscience. "You know what, though? I ought to let my family know I'm heading out." She sighed. "They aren't going to care much or anything, but." A grimace of resignation. "I can't really think of a reason not to say goodbye. And, uh..." brown eyes flicked over her new friend's vivid pelt, "unless you like middle-aged wolves wincing at your physical appearance, you might wanna hang back."

"Right then," she said, with a raised brow, not entirely sure how she had landed herself a traveling companion. She shrugged and rolled to her haunches, resigned to wait for her new would-be friend to tie up the loose ends in the pack.
And then...well, wherever the wind took them.
