Terreis rolled her eyes, of course Derecho would be overjoyed by so many sons that he would not notice her unhappiness. Sure the pups were strong, but what good did that do for her now. What she needed was a strong daughter to teach the ways of Antianeira to. But Derecho had denied her of that.
"Oh yeah." She began sarcastically. "They are just great. A whole bunch of males, just like you wanted." Part of her was happy, a very, very small part - but the larger part was extremely disappointed and pissed off that she wasn't graced with a single daughter.

Derecho blinked at her for a few moments - as though finally realizing that Terreis was not the over joyed mother she ought to be. Turning his eyes to the pups again h let his gaze rove over them for a few moments before looking back to her with slightly narrowed eyes - he didn't wish to be angry with her at the moment but she was making it hard not to be. "The fact that they are male means nothing...I would have loved them just the same had they been female." He told her.
"I only wanted healthy pups..which we have received. You should be thankful" He told her in a slightly harsher tone - this was certainly not turning out to be the amazing day he had always imagined it would be.

Lifting her head she finally looked at Derecho for the first time since the first pup had been born, eyes narrowed in anger. "This coming from you who earlier had said you wished that all our pups would be male so they wouldn't inherit my female sense of entitlement." He couldn't deny that he had said that back before she told him that she was pregnant.
Lowering her head back down she closed her eyes and sighed. "I am thankful they are healthy." She said in a quiet voice, but that was mainly because she was tired and really not up to arguing with him for once.

"I did say that..." Derecho agreed as she looked at him, his tone slightly apologetic, he tried hard to keep the edge from returning and ignoring the fact that she was mad at him leaned forward to lick her cheek once she closed her eyes again "But I did not mean it, i'm sorry your disappointed but they will make you proud someday - you shall see" He told her soothingly.
Derecho wasn't sure how to make her feel better about this situation - it was peculiar he knew to have a littler so gender biased and his remark was an unfortunate slip of the tongue he'd never live down now, but he was sure given some time she would come to love the pups - and...maybe next time she would be favored with a daughter - he was thankfully smart enough to keep this thought to himself for the time being.

Terreis let out a slight huff as he agreed to saying just that. At least he was trying to comfort her now and not rub it in her face. It would take a great deal for her to care for these pups the same as she would have cared for female pups but she would at least try. "I hope you are right." She said before letting out a yawn. They could discuss - or more than likely argue this later. For now she just needed to rest. They could figure out how to get the pups back to the main dens later - as well as name them.
