Aren't the names that Wotan is speaking basically official translations that come with english patches? I'm not sure on that thought, it's not like ZUN is producing the translations. In the end it's all sementics. What does atai translate to for english? Isn't it a childish way of referring to yourself? What word in english can do that? So rather than simply making it "me" some fanon made it "eye". Phoneticly it works, grammatically it sort of fits Cirno's personality, though I can't understand how it works with Komachi.*shrug*
The China for Meiling had something to do with her name being hard to say in japanese and her origin. I guess this one wasn't english fanon born. I don't know where the Team ⑨ came from.

Moon Rabbit Reisen What's wrong with copying what the fans in the original country do? I like pretending to have a hard time with Meiling's name and then "giving up" and calling her Chugoku.
Anyway, I think I might've misread something, so I think I'll stop before I flail into something too fast and trip.

When talking to English speakers, I use the Japanese names and terms (using the English name or term for reference once and ONLY once). Is that such a bad thing?

Nope, but it seems like a little extra work. I don't like to work hard (lazy), I'd rather work smart (yukkuri shiteitte ne). Even though I understand Japanese I still use english fanon more, but neither language is my native dialect. More silly details. If you're a fan then you're a fan. I don't think you need to prove anything to anyone.
