That_comic_guy Hydra-Star That_comic_guy Hydra-Star That_comic_guy Hydra-Star Why would you go to a school like that? Believe it or not, most professors are like my parents. I know enough of them. Why on earth would you go to a school that has so many professors who don't care? Most schools aren't like that. YOU CAN DO SO MUCH BETTER, COMIC!!! Meh. Not like I was smart enough for Yale or anything. I suck at art and have no real love for tech so... Did I mention I am in Cali and despite the stats I think most of the colleges here really suck underneath the hype. (Looking at you Berkeley.) Nice to see that some people actually love their jobs as teachers/professors. Most of the ones here just b***h and whine about it. You could go out of state. I can't believe your professors don't take their work seriously enough to care about their students. I mean, in all fairness, I'm sure they became professors to do research, not to teach, but still. They should take pride in their work, even if they don't enjoy it. I am poor enough as is! No you want me to pay out of state fees. NUUU thanks. Yeah, like back when I was a freshman the professors were nice and chilled. Now that I'm like a Jr/Sr it's like "do the work or GTFO I don't care." In turn, I don't give a s**t either but I do my work. (A tad late now or then but whatever) Well, of course you have to do the work. That's how college is. How are you supposed to learn if you don't do the work? You don't learn by doing the work but that's besides the point. I just hate that's all that really matters. They don't care if you actually learn or understand. That's the problem. (Although, I know that more than half the s**t I learn in college won't account for s**t in my field of study.) Still it's the principal of the matter and that should mean something. You kidding? Doing the work is how you learn. Teachers spend boat-loads of time thinking up assignments and coming up with things that will actually make you learn. It's also the only way for them to know if you're actually learning. How else are they supposed to judge you? They can't telepathically look into your brain and just discover that you're understanding something or not understanding something. More than that, college isn't about preparing you for your field of study. That's a common misconception. High school is about preparing you to go out into the world. College is about making you into an educated human being. Which is why so many classes you have to take don't have much to do with your desired field. That's not the point. To be educated you have to know about a wide variety of thing, not just the one thing you happen to be interested in.

Highly agree. College is worthless as well. None of the stuff I am learning makes me smarter or more suitable for my job. As to be good in my field you have to be kiss a** and I'm slowly seeing I will never have that quality. I can't even fake that quality as I just don't give a s**t that much.

As I said before, college is not about preparing you for your future job. It's about making you a well rounded, educated, human being. It's about making it so that you are educated. It's about making it so that you know enough about enough different topics to be able to understand the issues that are going on in the world. If you're expecting college to just make you good at whatever you want to do you're going to be severely disappointed. You need to change your mind set.

But I'm not more educated and most people with degrees aren't all that smart. They just act like elitist assholes. The only people I trust nowadays are the ones wearing hardhats. If I wasn't in so much debt I would ******** quit and pick up a trade. *sigh* too late now.

Second, it is a fact that people with degrees tend to be more open to new ideas, more scientifically minded, and less sexist, racist, homophobic, and bigoted. Don't get me wrong. That is a trend. You can find exceptions. But there's a reason for this. College teaches you about the world, and as you grow to understand more and more things you become a more open human being. Third, if you are learning anything from you classes than you are more educated. If you aren't learning anything, then why the hell are you paying to learn? If you do the work and pay attention in your classes, you should be learning. If you're learning, you're becoming more educated.

I have no clue. Like many people I was just led into high ed against my will. I didn't know there were other choices out there. At least I could have met some better people. Too late now.

Too late now. You're the first person I've ever met who was led to higher education against their will... Why would you pay thousands of dollars for something you didn't want to do?
