"Hmph. All the same, they are." Social stigmas - what a farce! Look a little different and they judge you - look a lot different and they hate you. Humans, wolves, it didn't matter the species: you look like a heathy wolf, you get in the group, you stay with the group, and you stay alive; and whatever overworld power there was have pity on you if the predator decided you were the next target. "And why would I be punishment to them? Why, when I am the one who looks as I do? Or perhaps," he drawled, "the sight of me alone would be a curse? If so, why stay, sunspot, hmm?"

She shrugged. "Doesn't make much sense to me either. S'why I left." Well, that was a bit of an over-simplification, but Kamiya was prone to those. "And my name's not Sunspot," she said. "It's Kamiya."

Edgar just shrugged. "Kamiya then. Still haven't answered my question, but you aren't obligated." He glanced to the water, pondered for a moment, and leaned forward . . . this time just to lap up some water properly - through his mouth rather than shot up his nose. When he was finished, he turned back to Kamiya. "Where are you from? What is this goddess-bound pack you mentioned?"

"I suppose, in your situation, I would have left too," she said, after a moment. "After all, I left my pack, but I'm certainly not as grumpy about it as you are." She rolled her haunches to free up a paw to scratch at her ear, contemplatively. "It's called Kapu'Moana. I doubt you've heard of them, they're terrified of outsiders and live in a small cove on the coast, worshipping the Goddess in the Sea and occasionally sending out scouts to steal females to swell their ranks." Her nose wrinkled in distaste. "But otherwise, they don't get out much."

"Lovely," he replied in a tone that meant quite the opposite. Of course she wouldn't be as grumpy about it, she hardly looked as if she knew what it was to be in power; foolish girl. "You're right, never heard of them; sounds as though I wouldn't care to either. Good you left, I guess." He then proceeded to yawn, revealing more yellowed teeth. "You smell like you have - had - at least another wolf with you. Got lost?"

"No," she said, lowering her hindpaw. "The prince decided one night that he'd had it, got into a huge fight with his father, and stormed off into the night." She rolled her eyes. "Kapu'Moana wolves have a superstition that if you move away from water that the Goddess can't protect you anymore and that terrible things will happen to you." She couldn't help but give the other wolf a questioning look, suddenly wondering if perhaps that was his problem, but it seemed from his statements that his appearance was abnormal even for an outsider so she said nothing. "Anyway. His father -- the alpha -- is beside himself, but too scared to go out and look for him himself. So he asked for a search party and I volunteered so I'd have an excuse to get away. Lost them in the woods a day ago."

Edgar snorted. "Some search party you are," he said with a slighty roll of his eyes. "Or maybe the alpha cares so little and was unwise to his choice picks for searchers. Or maybe you simpletons don't care what happens; I'd be happy to get out myself. Either way, haven't seen a wolf around this river yet besides you, so you can move along." It just wasn't Edgar's way to do with pleasantries; most of the time it was wasted on wolves who didn't care for you in the least, and the way he grew up did not put much emphasis on "trust", familial or with friends. Strangers? Not a chance. He then belatedly decided to dry himself off and began to shake himself furiously - and even still the fur remained loyal to his bones and clung.

"Oh, they won't care to look for me until after he's been found," she said. "I'm worthless to them. They'll be scrambling to find him, not me. But you're right -- I doubt they'll get him, he's been gone a long while now and they haven't a clue what they're doing." She shrugged. "I'm looking for him, out of curiosity mostly. I can't see him surviving well on his own, he's used to being served by the likes of me."
She rose to her paws and stretched. "Good to know. His trail passed through here but I think it's long cold now." She rose to her paws, prepared to leave. "So you'll just....be here, then? Moping?"
