Zinkenite tensed on his roof top perch, his sling shot drawing back almost instantly to firing position aimed at Scheelite and Virgo, it was a small miracle he didn't fire.
A force of will let him settle back to watching, just wait, just wait... if it got more serious then he could fire but there was still value there, and Scheelite didn't looked panicked or crazed.... though honestly he'd prefer panicked to trying to get Crazed out of there... or to get him to stop fighting.

His eyes widened with interest to see the librarian move forward, god...what was his name again, he'd always been more interested in the books than the man and that, at the moment was damned shameful.

This little drama was playing out far more interestingly than he'd thought it would. Clever Scheelite if he wasn't as badly hurt as he seemed, but what had he said to make the good Librarian come to his defense?

Was he going to leave? She hoped so, even as she corrected her balance and levered herself back to both feet; her hands on his collar didn't loosen, and it left his forehead resting on her forearm. The bluenette was already shifting her weight again for another attack when he protested--and just like that, she stopped on a dime, the hard crest of her knee poised perhaps an inch from his solar plexus.

"You're lying," said Virgo, but there was no conviction in her voice. She didn't know how corruption worked. It could force them to want to be evil, to want to kill. But the way he'd been acting before--he wasn't--this was such a one-eighty from just a moment ago that she was a little suspicious. If not for the librarian's presence, she would have kept going, but that bought just enough hesitance that she caught the begging look in his eyes. She let go of Scheelite like he was burning, practically shoved him away and staggered backwards towards Tony.

Confused, she shook her head. "But the Captain says--we're supposed to kill you before you kill us. That's why I always guard the Princess, so you can't get her--I won't let you get her." She slid between Tony and Scheelite, her arms out like a shield. "You will stay there," she ordered, pointing at his feet; "You will stay there, and we will talk, but you will not come one step closer to Mr. Darrow or I will destroy you."

Scheelite managed (barely) to stay on his feet after being shoved away. Perfect, at least she wasn't beating him into the pavement now. Without her hands on his collar it'd be that much easier to flee the scene if it became necessary. He still wasn't ready to do that though.

"We're just a bunch of kids...or at least I am. I didn't think when I was younger that growing up to be a murderer would be awesome, you know?"
He straightened up, still holding his stomach in 'pain'. At Virgo's command he stayed rooted to the spot, not taking a step in any direction.
"I think we're...all stuck under the same command? Kill first, ask questions later. I don't like this but if we don't, then we'll get killed. I have people I care about...I can't let myself be killed and not take care of them."

This was treading on dangerous territory. Demy liked to keep his own personality fragmented from that of 'Scheelite'. Scheelite was the murderer, and Scheelite enjoyed it. Demy wanted nothing to do with it. But if he was going to put on a convincing act than this was the best way to do it. He'd just have to spend hours later on convincing himself he never did anything wrong. Never. Ever. He was a good boy.

Tony took a step back when Virgo stepped in front of him, feeling a little frustrated. He understood her need to protect him, but the 'negaverse' boy didn't seem to want to hurt anyone, and his plight made Tony's heart feel heavy. He couldn't imagine what these kids went through, negaverse or senshi, how they came to be who they are, or if they had any choice in the matter.

It made him pity them both, and he didn't want to see any fighting because of it.

Putting his hand on Virgo's shoulder reassuringly, he stepped out so he could stand beside her, on equal footing, rather than hide behind her. Though he really did not comprehend anything that was going on here, he didn't want to imply that he was still so high on guard that he didn't want to talk to the young man. Maybe if he reflected that, Virgo would calm down and try her best to listen.

Tony understood the basics. Negaverse were evil, senshi were good. He did not know just what that meant, what spurned them, where they came from, or what guided their actions. He had no idea what kind of 'evil' and 'good' they were, so he held fast to human beliefs. If someone wanted to change, they could. No one was purely evil, and any spark of regret or remorse, of good, was worth nurturing.

"That just isn't fair..." he mumbled, mostly to himself. It was clear he believed Scheelite. He looked at Virgo, wondering if she had been forced into her duties in a similar manner, "you kids should just be... kids..."

God he wished he had one of those damned 'hearing aids' that made far conversations seem closer, he decided the worst of this was having to wait for Scheelite's report... but damn was he making a good account of himself down there.

More so he thought, because it hadn't devolved to a fist fight, Yes she was 'virgo' and yes there were two of them, but he -needed- not to show himself, and She was still a zodiac, until he was captain...well.. it would be a hard fight and one better avoided without back up and a good plan.

He half wanted to fire the smoke bomb again... get Scheelite out of there before something 'bad' happened.

"You always have a choice," she said, stubbornly. He could choose to not henshin up. He could choose to not steal starseeds. He could choose to be good instead of bad. The fact that he was out menacing innocent librarians after dark was condemnation enough for her; she could feel pity for him but in the end it was his choice just like it was hers to go out and patrol and protect the Princess.

Virgo held her guard stance, gloved hands balled into fists; when Tony touched her shoulder, though, her hands loosened and she dropped her arms to her sides. If she were to be corrupted, she liked to think she would have the courage to end it.

Her ears pricked at Tony's words, and she brushed her fingertips along her thighs. "You always have a choice," the Zodiac repeated. "You choose to go out and murder human beings. Other people. I cannot believe that your Captain or--or Charonite--micromanages you--."

How did they excuse this to themselves?

"-I- choose to live, and if -your- orders are to go out and kill Negaversers, then you are killing human beings too. I'm a human. I'm just as human as you..or your friend there."
Scheelite heaved a sigh. Maybe this was stupid. He really had no idea what he was doing. Why couldn't it have been Zink down here talking instead?

"You don't know anything about us, just what your captain said so you'd feel fine going out and murdering us. You don't know how we work, you don't know just how hard it is, or just what is hung over our heads if we -don't- bring in star seeds. You just don't know."
He hung his head a moment. This...he couldn't keep this up. Maybe pulling back -was- for the best.
"I'm...sorry."
And it actually sounded sincere. From there he gave the two of them a half-hearted salute, and turned to slink back off into the darkness. He went slow, just so he could catch any last things either of them said.

Tony listened passively, knowing it wasn't his place to really speak or get involved. He was an outside observer, listening to things he didn't truly understand. He looked at Virgo, watching her as she listened, then glanced at the Lieutenant as he went on.

Things were complicated.

The young man apologized and Tony's frown deepened. He gripped Virgo's shoulder, silently asking her to let him go, though he had no real right to. If they were meant to fight each other, they had their orders and their duties, no matter which side was 'good' or 'evil', Tony couldn't really expect to get in the middle of it.

Watching Scheelite go for a long moment, Tony then moved and looked at Virgo.

"Are you okay?" he asked, knowing there hadn't been any kind of fight, of course. But that wasn't really what he was asking about. Orders. Murder. The difference between a senshi and a negaverse agent... the conversation had been heavy, not what Tony had been expecting for the night, that was for sure. He wanted to make sure she was okay.

She was silent, just staring, the line of her mouth firm. Nobody needed the last word, and she wasn't really doubting anything then; there was the rush of adrenaline, a constant chorus of protect the civilian--protect Tony in her ears, drowning out everything else. It was possible later she might think back on this later, but right now her mindset was pure soldier, no Elke involved.

"They choose to kill," she said to Tony, "and like Papa always says, those who live by the sword will die by it." Her green eyes were hard; the childish affection that normally shone in her every expression was faint, barely present. "I am prepared to die. They should be, too."

As Scheelite faded from sight, though, she relaxed, and took Tony's hand. "Let's get you home," she said, swinging their hands between them; "It is getting late out, and dark outside."

Tony nodded slowly.

"Okay, they choose it. I don't know. I don't know them. I barely know your side of things. I can't take him at his word, if you say he is evil, but... that look on his face..." Tony shook his head. He didn't want to say anything that would upset Virgo further. Maybe he was easily duped, and she was just trying to protect him. Naive, wanting to see the good in everyone, even those reportedly pure evil. He didn't know, it was all beyond his ability to comprehend.

But he was learning, and he would figure these things out. Patience and careful listening, understanding, were in order.

Holding her hand, he nodded, gripping it and stopping it from swinging. He moved to walk with her, heading along the familiar path to his apartment, still contemplating things, wondering about what he had just witnessed. There wouldn't be any sleep for him tonight, after all.
