Zoey watched as cyan eyes grew distant once again, grateful this time for the respite it offered her from the swift pace of the conversation topics changing. It was rather difficult to keep up with, even for one as intelligent and well-trained as she.
The filly took the time offered to catch her breath and try to anticipate the direction the conversation would flow next. Though she was very careful to note Ellial's unusual markings and appearance to describe him to her maman when she requested clarification and reason for one to be so lost in his own mind.
Zoey puffed up proudly with the colt's comment as he came back to the present. " Well duh, I came up with it after all."
Deciding once and for all that, wierd quirks aside, the colt was ok, she firmly placed him in the catagory of friend in her mind.
"Well, oh 'one who seeks knowledge', what kind'a knowledge are you in the mood to seek for now?" She tilted her head questioningly, wondering if he would just seek to continue talking.... or if he would act like the colt he was and perhaps want to play a game or go on an adventure.

"What to seek..." the young colt's voice drifted off into incomprehensible mumbles as his gaze drifted back to where the sun had set. The sky had morphed to a shade of dark purple without the sun's light, which was now a sliver on the horizon. Soon, the land would be cast into darkness. His young body trembled at the thought, before steeling itself.
The dark terrified him, and yet, it also intrigued him. What kind's of things lurked just out of sight in those dark shadows?
Before his thoughts could travel any farther, his attention was snared by small floating lights at the bottom of the hill he currently stood on. He blinked, only to find them gone.
"Hey, did you see-" Ears perk straight up as the small lights once more spring to life. "Oh! Oh! Oh! Look!"
Excitement had the young colt prancing in place, his cyan eyes wide as he looked to Zorana. As if waiting for permission to investigate the scene down below.

Zoey turned to look, trying to see just what it was that had gotten the colt so excited. She saw only the flickering dance of fireflies, a common enough sight, but swiftly dismissed it. After all what was so special about that?
"I don't see anything..."
She looked back to find his wide eyes fixed on her, almost as if asking for her permission. She snorted . What was she, his mother?
"Whaddya lookin' at me like that for? If'n ya wanta go look than why don't you just go?"
And suiting action to word she started down the hill at a sharp trot. She made it a few paces before looking back. "Well, are ya comin' or not?"

As he carefully began to make his way down the hill, each slow cautious step testing the ground for sudden holes or snares, Ellial decided that he liked the filly's sharp tongue. She reminded him of Zaitus, just without the shoving and booty ramming.
His cyan gaze continuously bounced between the ground and the fireflies that drifted through the air up ahead. His tongue ghosted out to wet his lips as he tried to ignore the encroaching darkness.
The absence of light is nothing to fear, reasoned his mind. He desperately clung to the thought, even as the fog that drifted within his mind tried to devour it.
A happy sigh escaped his lips upon touching down at the bottom of the hill. Pleased he'd made it without injury.
"Do you know what they are?"

It was probably a good thing that Zoey wasn't able to read thoughts, because if there was one thing she couldn't stand, it was being compared to someone else. Zoey was Zoey, she was unique and that was how she liked it! But since she didn't know what he was thinking, it would make no true difference. As it was, she was thinking -perhaps unkindly, even if it wasn't meant to be- that there was something ~wrong~ with the colt.
Had he had some sort of accident, either in his basket or since, that had left him so.... slow? That might account for his rather many pecularities. She felt a sudden surge of protectiveness. Almost like he was a younger sibling who needed to be watched over.
She noticed the rather slow, heavy hoofalls of the colt who was lagging further and further behind her. She slowed her pace, almost coming to a complete stop as she waited for him to catch up, which happened when they reached the bottom of the hill.
"Hey, are ya alrigh'?" She asked, kinda concerned. It wouldn't do to have her new friend and companion for this evenings adventure be frightened or hurt.
Looking at the fireflies dancing, she answered the question. "Of course I know. Those," she gestured with her horn, "are fireflies. They're small insects that...." she wracked her brain trying to remember the explanation maman had given her for why they glowed, but realising it wasn't that important, she settled for the much simplified version. "Glow."

"I'm fine!" stated the colt in a more defensive manner than he intended. Shame soon followed, causing his cheeks to warm beneath his fur. How could he so rudely respond to a question voiced out of concern for his well being? Already he could hear his mother's voice chastising him within his head.
"I'm fine," he repeated in a much softer tone, hoping the filly would not take offense to his previous response.
One benefit to his ever flighty mind, for him, was that things like guilt or embarrassment did not linger long. The fog in his mind quickly swallowed the feelings up, leaving him free to move on instead of lingering over emotions that would swallow the gentle boy up.
"But, why do they glow?" It was an unavoidable question. He turned to Zorana, his excitement about playing with these floating light momentarily pushed aside by his desire for knowledge. And Zorana, she seemed to be so smart. Reminded him of an adult really. To turn to her for the answer- not knowing the answer currently evaded her- was just as automatic as voicing the question.
