Taking his place beside her in the ordering line, Marlon chuckled at Eolande's words. "Oh geez, I saw an episode of that show once; it's awful. It's just like wrestling; half the time is spent with the characters just shouting and each other and saying how throughly they'll whoop the other's a**. And then they do that power-up thing where it looks like they're constipated. I never saw much point in it, except maybe to laugh at how horrible it was." Still smiling, he approached the counter and ordered a monster thickburger with curly fries and a large Coke.

"Your stronger willed then I am then." Eolande grinned as she moved along in the line. "I only made it halfway through before flicking the channel. I will admit that reading the manga is easier though. I guess it's cause there is not so much time spent watching them power up. But still, it's kinda laughable. As if someone with superpowers would let themselves get the crud beat out of them before whipping out the big powers huh?" She paused their conversation then as they reached the counter. After a moment of thought she copied Marlons order, only with a diet instead of a regular drink. Carrying her tray to a small bench table she sat down and unwrapped her burger.
"I almost like wrestling though. Almost. I think it's cool how everyone gets their own theme music. It's a touch like a male version of soap's you know? I rather like real wrestling though. Nothing is scripted, with clear rules, and it's skill that wins. Plus the guys aren't all overly muscled. That is totally gross. I like a guy with tone to him, but I'd like to not feel like he could squish my boobs out my head if he wanted to."

Marlon let a small shudder pass through him as he took his order to the bench table with Eolande. "I've tried a few mangas in general; they can be a little.....extreme for me. Though it's funny how drastically different they are from the cartoons in terms of violence and just that 'they went there' feeling." He shrugged and chuckled. "Maybe they thought they only needed so much power. You'd think after beating themselves up for several seasons, they would get the hint and try the big stuff first. Still, I guess the had to do something to flesh out a half hour of every day."
He snorted as he unwrapped his burger and licked dripping cheese off of his fingers. "That's exactly what wrestling is; a guy's soap opera. Instead of 'you stole my boyfriend' it's 'you stole my belt'. You'd think it would be the girls fighting over clothing.....no offense." Biting his lip in frustration at what he deemed his pig-headed slip up, he focused on making headway on his burger, smiling at her comment about the overly muscled and what they could do.

Eolande wasted no time digging into her burger. Her blue eyes twinkling merrily at the discussion. "Bah! No offense taken. It makes more sense really. You know, we ought to watch a real wrestling match." She lifted a hand and pointed at Marlon with one greased fingertip. "In fact. I bet if you joined the boy's wrestling team you would do pretty good. No more geeks would pick fights with you then."

"Hmm, maybe." Marlon mused aloud as soon as he had enough space in his mouth to contemplate without showing food and seeming like a complete rude-a**. "Don't know where we'd see a real wrestling match though, unless something like that came to town."
His eyes went wide and he nearly choked on a mouthful of hamburger. "M-me? Join the wrestling team??" Since junior high, he had never joined so much as a chess club, choosing instead to just keep to himself and avoid any sort of stereotype. But the wrestling team? To him it was as unthinkable as growing feathers. He managed to swallow before replying. "I couldn't do that; wrestling requires some for of grace, and I already told you I don't have any to speak of. I might have the build, but I don't have the moves by a longshot."

Eolande took a swallow from her drink and grinned at the overly flabbergasted expression that Marlon had just given her. "Then it would be good for you Marlon. If your not good at something then you should practice. Who knows? Maybe you'll improve. Wouldn't it be nice to avoid a few of those future accidents if you could?" She paused to take a bite of her burger and realized she'd just about finished it all. This was a damn good burger!
"Mmm. And besides. You could be one of those rare cool jocks who aren't jerks. You'd get double brownie points with the geeks and possibly homework help in the future. That's always a bonus. I'll even promise to come to all your matches and buy you something from the Mc D's dollar menu for each point you score!"

Hastily stuffing the last of his burger into his mouth and washing it down with a sip of Coke, Marlon tried to make it seem as though he was regaining his composure. "Well, I've tried my hand at other balance-improving things, and it never works out. Wrestling probably won't be any different. What if I mess up and the whole team gets angry at me? After this morning, the last thing I need is for more people to be angry with me."
He blinked and laughed suddenly at Eolande's words. "I don't need any homework help; well, not much anyway. I make pretty decent grades, and I'm not afraid to delve into the geekier things. But it wouldn't be a bad thing to at least help them stand up to people, if they'll even talk to me after what happened today." He chuckled. "Well, I guess I wouldn't mind a milkshake or an iced coffee."

"Then it's a deal." Eolande replied with a bright grin on her face. "You'll join the wrestling team and make up with all the geeks by showing them there is a jock out there that doesn't get a chubby wedging them, and I'll come to your matches and most of your practices. If the boy's do get angry at you then I'll just start a shirt tearing fight with one of their girl friends. I'm sure that's bound to take their attention off you." With a blue eyed wink Eolande lifted her paper cup up in a gesture of a toast towards Marlon and took a deep gulp from it. "Allright then. I think it's time I dropped you on off home and headed to my prison as well. I've got a essay to write and I'm still trying to think of a good way to work David Bowie into it."

Marlon jerked with a start as he finished off his Coke. "But.....I didn't say....I....." He made a slightly sour face and set his empty cup down. "Oh fine, I guess I'll give it a try. But if it doesn't improve my being a klutz, or more people end up hating me, don't say I didn't tell you so." He didn't say it with very much conviction; he didn't want to think that he was completely disregarding her idea. He just didn't have as high hopes for the results as she did.
He nodded and gathered up his cup and wrappers to deposit them into the garbage. "Is it really that bad where you live? I guess you could always come to my place if you ever feel like a change of scenery; my folks are gone a lot, and even if they weren't, my Mom would probably be just beside herself if I brought a girl home."

As she threw her wrappers away Eolande gave Marlon a faint grin. "I'll tell you about it next time we hang out. I can't go giving away all my secrets. Otherwise you'll get bored and won't have a reason to spend time with me." She jested while brushing her hands off. With a small chuckle she headed out to her bike. "Sounds like your mom really wants you to hook up with someone. Maybe we'll make her day sometime and I'll pop over to tease you or something about your hat." With another laugh she moved to mount her bike and gestured for her friend to get on. She'd drop him off at home, then head on out to her home as well. All in all the day wasn't a total loss she supposed.

"Oh it kills her that I'm not more social; I think she likes to think I pick on kids too. She won't say it to me of course, but it's kind of obvious since she put me in Applereach." Why did parents have such a hard time understanding their kids? He supposed at least that his parents had a lot more to focus on than normal. Ah well, at least now he had one person who understood him, and for now that was all he needed.
He walked out and followed Eolande's gesture, getting on the bike and settling himself down behind her. "If you tease me about my hat, she'll probably love you; she always wants me to get rid of it." He couldn't help but smile anyway; the day might have been rotten as Hell, but it couldn't have ended better.

"What sort of parent is she to actually encourage her kid to pick on others?" Eolande shook her head and rolled her eyes a little. "Some parents. I swear. We all blame the kids for acting like jerks but it's the parents at fault half the time I think." Eolande pulled her helmet on and snapped the strap under her chin. "Well then I'll tease you only a little bit. Maybe make a suggestion of putting a rainbow sticker on it or something." She grinned a bit as she turned the bike on.
