Forgetting about it? Don't we have a Touhou genderswap thread somewhere in here?
PostPosted: Mon May 03, 2010 2:20 pm

Yeah, there is.

It just wasn't mentioned here.
Thought I'd chip in. xD

And slightly off-topic, but somewhat related to rule 63.
I intend on someday cosplaying the male version of Yuuka, just because I have similar traits as her.
Her Flowers are to her, as my Video Games are to me.
And then if you add in the fact that on a bad day I tend to have an unnerving smile like Yuuka's.......So Yeah.
Of course, it tends to veer more into Kefka turf, due to the fact that it's often accompanied by (slightly?) deranged laughter.

I can't tell how often I've sat awake at night just laughing like mad.......Kinda makes you wonder if I was born to move to Gensokyo?
Seeing as how I'd probably fit in quite well, especially with folks like Yuuka, Marisa, Mima, etc.

Also, I'm shocked at the lack of quizzes that list Yuuka and Mima as valid resolutions.

I'm of the opinion that (lacking not only magical powers, but what might or might not be most important, knowledge of the nineteenth century Japanese language) most people here (most Touhou fans, in fact) would be royally screwed if they ever got into Gensokyo somehow.

The only safe mainland places to "spawn" in would be the human village, the Hakurei Shrine, the Forest of Magic, and the Bamboo Forest of the Lost.

If you enter Gensokyo through the Hakurei Shrine, Reimu would just walk you to the human village; this would (actually) be the best possible start. If you first "spawn" into the Forest of Magic during the day, your only hope would be that Alice finds you and takes you to her house before night arrives. Same thing applies for the Bamboo Forest of the Lost; you should be lucky enough for Mokou to find you and leave you at Eientei.

Being anywhere else than in the human village during night (this includes "spawning" at nighttime in open areas) would equal a somehow quick death, in my opinion.

Well, I do intend to learn japanese, so that includes the 19th Century version.
As for magic....well, I figure that I can work around that once I get there, since I intend to use the Shrine as my way to enter.

As for the Bamboo Forest, don't forget that Tewi/Tei also leads people to the exit on ocassion, and that would often mean a run-in with Mokou no matter what, since she's set up shop at the entrance.

Arriving in the M-Forest wouldn't be too bad, as I'd likely run into Alice, as you said.
But then we'd wind up having a debate on something trivial, as conversations with me often turn to that.
Never mind the fact that I'm overly fond of Puns.....

And at night the best people/youkai to run into would most likely be Rumia and Mystia, simply because they're mostly harmless by Youkai standards.
Rumia because she's unmotivated, and Mystia because she'd probably be too busy trying to get me to buy some grilled lamprey.
And knowing me, I'd buy some and start behaving like a food critic. xD

And knowing me, I'd be quite likely to bump into Marisa and get into a fight, despite my lack of Danmaku. xD
Simply because "I'd want to".
Hey, when you've grown up watching the classic "Idiot Hero" so much so that you've appropriated personality traits from them, you start to do stuff like that. xD
Besides, I wouldn't mind getting hammered with a Master Spark, it'd be an enlightening experience to be certain.
And who knows? maybe it'll become Love At First Punch?
No Guy Wants An Amazon? Pssh, If she's got the guts to smack me across the room, then she's my type.

...Of course, the same might occur with Alice, involving a lot of sharp implements shoved up one's....well, you get the "Point".

Besides, I'd probably prefer to use the Samurai's way of speaking, just to indicate that I'm a polite and refined individual.
So a love at first punch romance with Marisa would probably come across as remarkably hilarious.
Think about it, a guy who speaks in an extremely formal manner chasing after a chick who is known to speak very informally, all because he's fallen head over heels for her due to getting knocked head over heels by her.

Yeah. That pretty much explains it, heh. Not to mention the fact that my view of Gensokyo in general is a lot more grimdark than most people.

mine, and if I ever see another guy trying to pick her up I swear I'm going to danmaku him until the very last step of Hakugyokurou's stairs. xd

Yeah, but that's how you see it, I see it as a great place to escape the idiocy that is omnipresent in this world.

Wotan Manasal
******** you. Alice is mine, and if I ever see another guy trying to pick her up I swear I'm going to danmaku him until the very last step of Hakugyokurou's stairs. xd

Heh.....Well then, I guess that once we both arrive in Gensokyo, the first thing we'll do once we master Danmaku and Spellcards is fight over Alice. xD
And think about it, Marisa and Alice would probably be providing a running commentary on it all, like MST3K. xD
Of course......there's a few others I've got my eye on, so I might wind up pulling a Reverse Marisa. xD
And y'know what? I get the feeling that a lot more weird would start happening. xD

I seem to recall ZUN saying that males just plain don't have danmaku, actually. I mean, unless you want to be an animal or animated object, then be my guest. Unzan's one of the coolest characters ever, after all.

Aside from that, what are the chances that my pure resentment of my current state of existance in this world would turn me youkai upon entry? Because that IS the type of thing that tends cause it. Kogasa being abandoned, for example.

I'm pretty sure youkai males do have... but do you mean human males don't? Link plz.

Wasn't Kogasa already a magical object before turning into youkai? I guess you'd need someone in Gensokyo to turn you into a youkai through magic, like Alice did.

That's why I plan to seek out either Shinki, Alice, Patchy, Mima, or Yukari.
Because they're the most qualified for that.
Shinki can just cook up some kinda Makai Mojo and poof, "Instant Youkai, Just Add Danmaku".
Alice and Patchy can take the long way by teaching people their respective magic styles.
And Mima can do something like Shinki.
Of course, the easiest way to go about turning Youkai would be to have Yukari flip-flop the Border of Human and Youkai.
Yes, I know that's one of her spellcards, that's just how I see the Human-To-Youkai process as performed by Yukari.

How are we forgetting about Rule 63?

If it exsists, then there is an alternate gender version.
No Exceptions.

Once you combine this rule with the other rules, you get...

THE INTERNET.

So true.
It's a good part of the wisdom I have gathered and intend to pass along to the next generation.

I'm pretty sure it was in an interview or something like that, though I can't seem to find it at the moment. Or I just happened to miss it when skimming through the one's listed on the wiki just a moment ago due to lack of sleep. I'll post here if I can find it.

But basically, someone flat-out asked why there weren't any men, and ZUN said it was because they don't have danmaku. Plus, that was the main concern with whoever that was he was originally planning to use as UFO's final boss.

Aside from that, I don't remember anything about Kogasa being special in any way before turning youkai, but maybe I just missed something. I'll go check sometime when I'm not obsessed with my MISAKA ARMY!!!

I asked a fellow Touhou fan about it, and he told me that what ZUN said is that there are very few male characters of any consequence in the Touhou saga. He couldn't find the source of that statement, anyways.

I highly doubt male individuals like Lord Tenma could rule over both his male and female vassals without danmaku. And some DS stages show Unzan shooting danmaku out of his body...

Proof that guys have Danmaku too, even if Unzan's just a pink cloud......But he's a MANLY PINK CLOUD.

Because we all know that Real Men Wear Pink.

Well that's exactly it. While ZUN never actually pointed it out as far as I know, every single male of the series has been either non-humnoid (Unzan, Genji), or has no danmaku abilities (Rinnosuke).

On the topic of Unzan, this picture. He's so manly, the series needs more women...and it will NEVER balance out. Ever.

Now...who was Lord Tenma again?
