She sighed, sad that he was so afraid of what she counted as her life source. "Ceros..." she murmured gently, "when I was a foal, I was afraid of certain kinds of water. I, the one who grew up in water, was partly scared of it. But only the scary kind - rapids and waterfalls... I can navigate them now." She sighed again, knowing that was probably not much help.
Thinking of a way to comfort him, Ami swam a tiny bit closer. Suddenly, she came up with an idea. Trying to keep her excited-ness on the down-low, she said carefully, "Come with me. I want to show you where I live." She smiled sweetly, like she imagined she would at a timid foal - she'd never met one - and headed upstream without looking back to see if he followed. As an afterthought, she yelled over her shoulder, "And no, Ceros, you don't have to walk in the river, if that's what you were thinking!"

It had been indeed his train of thought; walking in the water. It sent a chill down his spine and cement into his veins. But once she quickly reassured him, he let out a giant sigh of relief and a crooked smile at his own laughable foolishness. He got to his feet and carefully followed her. "Thank you Ami, this is very kind of you." It was evident that she had efforts of comforting him in mind, and he hoped it would work. Her kindness alone had helped lift his damp spirits. And even if she ended unsuccessfully, he knew her heart was in the right place. But he too had to be open to new ideas! If he was to overcome this silly fear he had to embrace water. Suddenly he tripped and fell into the river.

Amitola turned to smile back at him. "I would never make you--" she began, and then saw him fall into the river. She gasped as a huge wave of water rolled over her head and flipped her over. She ducked under the water and looked for signs of air bubbles and flailing hooves in the dim blueness. She popped back above the surface. "Ceros?" she yelled as another wave from the force of his impact hit her. "Where are you?" She didn't think he would be so easy to miss... But the guy was purple-blue, and that was a rather hard color to see in a blue river!

What had he slipped on? A wet rock? Damp moss? Or had he just misplaced his footing when in thought? All he knew, all he could feel was the numbness of fear. His glowing eyes zoomed around as they began to sting from the river water. Where was the surface? It had just been there a moment ago... A sudden jolt of true fear, and Ceros regained his senses - almost - and began to thrash in the water. Bubbles flying around him, his glowing features reflecting in the water strangely. He tumpled and rolled in the deep, dark water of the river until finally her broke through the surface. He desperately gasped for air even though he was only submerged for less than twenty seconds and clambered onto the shore. "Sweet Gods, was the river always that deep?!"

Still whizzing frantically around under the surface, Amitola only saw one hoof leave the water when she realized he'd already returned to land. Another wave hit her before she could come up. Popping back up, she barely heard his question. "Actually, it's quite shallow this time of year..." She swam closer to the shore, giving him a good look-over. "Are you alright? Do you want to keep going?" she asked cautiously, not wanting to accidentally frighten him after his spill.

"it gets deeper?" Ceros asked in complete horror. Visions of the river overflowing onto the forest, covering everything in its path, dawned on him and he felt weak in the knees. He shook the thought off and shivered, still soaking with the cool water. "No no.." he said a little dryly, "i still want to go! lead the way, I will be more careful this time. Promise!"
He didn't know if his heart -or the courage he had to face his fear- would last if he fell in again, even though the water had been quite shallow, par Ceros' wild imagination.
They began to walk once more.

"Yes, it gets deeper, Ceros!" she said, frowning a little at him. "It's summer - water evaporates fast in this heat. Are you sure you're alright?" she asked him again, still a little unsure. But when he said he still wanted to go, Ami just did a little sea-pony shrug and continued on.
They passed the lush forest and eventually made came to the lake. "This is it," Ami said, looking around lovingly. She glanced at him. "This is my home. C'mon," she said, and led the way to the other end - the shallow end.

Ceros nodded to show he still wanted to go. "Sorry the water just scared me." He said quietly, lowering his head in hot shame. He felt like a child, silly and foolish. But as they walked the last length of the journey, he collected himself together and finally perked up when his new friend announced their arrival. The next three seconds of his life passed in slow motion. Both in awe and in terror. He looked up and gasped. There was so much water! So much green beauty and delicacy. And it was all so breathtaking!

Ami looked back and frowned again. "Ceros? Are you coming?" He was staring at the lake with hugely wide eyes, blatantly gaping. She swam back over to him. This is never going to get anywhere unless I drag him over there...
She whipped around, trying to splash him a little. "Let's go. It's way too deep for you over here," she said, and once again began finning her way over to the shallow end.

The splash of water in his direction had done its job. He had snapped out of his awed trance and focused back onto his new friend and guide. But it had also caused a poorly withheld squeal of fright and surprise to be born. Ceros blushed as he emitted the scream and quickly followed behind his mer-friend in a high-kneed trot.
"Im sorry Ami. Its just so beautiful." He grinned sheepishly and trotted right along side her. "Is this truly where you live?"
The contrast of this place with his own birth-lands was incredible. And he was reminded of just how varied the world and its inhabitants were.

Ami smiled - she couldn't help it. Ceros admired this place where she'd grown up, and she felt proud. "Well, I live in the lake, but I suppose you could say that." She tried to make a point of not drawing attention to his little cry of shock. Such would be unkind, she thought.
As they reached the wet-dirt lake-beach, Ami stopped at about three feet from the water's edge. "It's too shallow for me farther than this," she said. "So... Your turn. Walk over to me?" It was a question - she didn't want to push him too far...
{OoC: Sorry for such a late reply... I kinda poofed for a while. sweatdrop }

[don't worry about it one bit~ i have been a bit sporadic as well. I am glad you still want to continue <3] Ceros listened closely and watched her just as closely. Like a bloodhound on a chase or a soldier listening to their colonel. Something in him felt he had to let her lead, not only with direction, but with his safety as well. He trusted the small aquatic being and she wanted to show him something new, something that might just change him. He wouldn't resist. He had to trust. And now, this request was his first test. he stared at the shallow area for just the moment it took for a heart to beat, but a cold sweat already formed on the back of his neck. It felt like his mane was raining. He took a shaky step forward, not daring to close his eyes, and walked into the water. It was shallow, it came up mid way to his knees, and oh god it was terrifying.
His hooves glowed eerily in the reflection of the water, and he tried to focus on that as he walked toward Ami. "Hello." he greeted, visibly shaken and scared by the task he had just completed. It wasn't too bad. He smiled.

Ami couldn't help but squeal a little with glee. He was succeeding - and doing it well. Conquering this fear of water that he had; already voluntarily shin-deep. She backed up another foot. "It should come up to about your knees here - go slow. It's a weird angle and the footing is strange," she said, firmly believing that he would walk toward her a little more, no matter how long it took him. He seemed to have the heart of one willing to try, and he certainly had the heart of one willing to face his fears.
"Whenever you're ready," Ami said, and gave him a huge smile back. She couldn't help but be incredibly happy at his success. Though he was shaky and obviously a little frightened, he'd had the spirit to smile.

Ceros chuckled nervously and swallowed a sudden lump in his throat. Willing his shaking knees to start carrying him through the water again. He felt like a machine as he concentrated on his limbs and joints and their specific movement. He had never done so and it made him feel strangely in power. The feeling encouraging him even more.
He took the steps slowly, making sure not to slip or accidentally step into any hidden pitfalls. "This isn't too bad really. Once you are in, that is." He was more trying to convince himself not to go back rather than reporting back to his fishy guide.
A sudden creature, a fish most likely or even some water greenery, slithered past his ankle and he stiffened and jumped with fear. "Oh my stars WHAT WAS THAT?" he jumped a few steps to the right, where the water reached his heartshaped chest. Strangely, he managed to stay on his feet without much tipping. He looked around him, feeling his pelt getting much wetter than he was ready for. "This water is colder, is that normal?" He looked to Ami with a child's pleasing eyes. But glowing.

"No, it's really not that bad..." she replied. Her tail contracted and extended as she sat still in the water, enjoying the calm that Ceros was beginning to achieve.
And then, of course, what looked like lakeweed to Ami's eyes decided it was going to brush over his foot. She shot backwards for safety as the big stallion jumped to the side in panic. She'd expected him to collapse into the water or do something like he had when he'd fallen in the river, but all he did was steady himself. Ami's eyes widened, and she knew that he was mostly over the fear he'd been afflicted with when she'd first met him.
"It was just lakeweed, Ceros," she said, soothing her own frayed nerves as well as - hopefully - his. "It's pretty normal," she replied. "The farther down you get, the colder it is." With a smile, she decided it was time for the next lesson.
"If you stay there, do you think you can swim?"
