Tony had always been convincing in his arguments, but with the way Suri head felt as light as a feather, he might as well have been preaching the word of God. She watched him with the gleam of admiration in her eyes as he spoke, leaning forward to avoid the embarassment that would be toppling out of her bar stool (personally, she thought the idea would be somewhat amusing, but she had a feeling that she would not approve of the whole ordeal later). "Yeah," she said, nodding enthusiastically in approval, "Yeah, maybe it was telling me something. That's a good point."

His leering grin was met with a look of indignation, and she crossed her arms with an exaggerated huff and an upwards turn of her nose. "Drunk? I, sir, am not drunk in the slightest," she said with all pompous seriousness, "And it's not polite to inquire a lady on such things, besides." She maintained her poise for a moment, the carefully groomed facade that she had been pressed to uphold since childhood, but looking at that grinning face of Tony's, her lips pursed in an attempt not to smile herself. However, her attempts failed, and soon she was sniggering, then outright laughing, shaking her head at the silliness of all her mother's pomp and circumstance. For all the woman's attempts to be proper, she ended up just looking foolish, as always, and for some reason, that was now hilarious to Suri.

Once she regained her composure, she downed the last of her beverage, glancing over at her drinking partner with a haughty smirk. "I dunno, I think you're drunker," Suri added with a casual flip of her hair

Tony watched her, surprised when she turned so serious. He bought it, for a long moment, thinking he had offended her and ready to stammer out an apology for being so rude and not considering her feelings before saying it, but he had forgotten what he had said and he didn't really feel all that sorry for anything. His head was swimming, and he gaped a bit when she started to laugh.

His confused expression shattered and a large grin took its place, and he laughed heartily at her performance. He clapped her on the back, like he might a male friend he was drinking with, if he had any of those any more.

"I'm not any more drunk than you are, I'm sure!" he said, motioning for another drink just to prove his point. "And besides, even if I was, I'd still be better off because I can probably handle a whole lot more than you." He paused, to make sure he had said what he meant, then nodded, "and anyway, you're the one almost falling out of your seat."

Of course, as he spoke he was turning in his, back toward the counter, and his foot slipped off the lower part of the stool. The result was him slumping suddenly, half slipping from the seat, and jamming his inner thigh on the less than soft top of the stool. He bit back a yelp and instead started laughing. With the mood lifted so much it was easy to enjoy just how drunk he had managed to get.

Had she been babysitting herself, Suri would have told herself that enough was enough, that she didn't need another drink. As it was, she noticed Tony motioning for more, and that was all she needed to pressure herself into getting another round, despite the way the room was beginning to spin. She watched the bartender blend her drink for a moment, but couldn't help but jump when she heard the rough thud of Tony against the stool. She looked to him quickly, her expression somewhat startled, but that quickly dissolved into laughter as well as she offered a hand to help him out of his current slump.

"Who's the one falling out of their seat now?" Suri jeered smugly, waving her token paper umbrella at Tony's nose for emphasis with her other hand. However, it was hard to remain mean-spirited for long, and as she helped him up, she began to laugh again, sipping happily at her drink. Such an open display of her emotional state was something that the sober Suri would come to regret in the days after...that is, if she even remembered the encounter at this point.

She looked at her drink pensively, then slid it over to Tony, a small amount of the blue liquid splashing up from the side. "Wanna try some? It's...really good, actually."

Tony laughed along with her, at himself. He accepted her help, almost tugging her off her seat and thus helping neither of them in the process. But they managed to keep from falling from the counter so that was good thing at least. He grinned at her once he was settled again, reaching for his drink.

She slid him hers, however, and he looked at it for a moment. IT was pretty girly, blue as it was, but he moved to take a drink of it anyway.

"That is good!" he said, chuckling. Stronger than he had imagined, too, though he was judging a book by its cover, as the saying went. He offered her his drink, in return. "I'm not sure you'll like it." He said, grinning. He thought of it as a more manly drink, despite its name, because of how strong it often was. But he was beginning to think she'd be able to hold her own.

Not that he would tell her that, and let her win this 'contest'.

"I've got work tomorrow," he laughed, almost miserably, as he sipped at his drink before offering it to her again. He did not want to think about what kind of a state he would be in when the morning rolled around. So he didn't.

Drink-swapping sounded like a smashing idea to Suri, or at least it had when she slid her drink over to the librarian. However, as she caught a whiff of the Long Island Ice Tea she was about to sip, her nose curled upwards in distaste, and she had to force herself to take a sip, so as not to seem like she was backing down after all this bravado. The concoction tasted awful, and it took everything in Suri to swallow it, her eyes closed tightly in disgust. When she opened them to look at Tony, the world seemed that much blurrier, though that didn't seem to phase her for the moment.

However, mentions of 'work' certainly did, her eyes widening. "Shiiiiiiit," she hissed, laying her head on the cool surface of the bar. "I've got...s**t, there's lab tomorrow..." the woman whined, running her fingers through her hair. Slowly, she lifted up her head, but the motion apparently didn't sit well with her. She rubbed a temple, suddenly aware of the amount of alcohol she had consumed, and the fact that this would not bode well in the morning. However, despite her attempts to focus, the world only continued to spin, and for someone who liked to maintain control, it was not a good feeling.

"I should probably...s**t, what time is it?" Suri murmured, trying (and failing) to read off the tiny numbers of her watch.

The very drunk librarian couldn't help but laugh when she tasted the strong drink, shaking his head. He didn't feel like teasing her about it: it was kind of gross, he had just been drinking them for so long he had gotten used to the taste.

Shaking his head, wobbling, he reached for his drink again before pausing and stealing another sip of hers.

"I have no idea," he said, looking at his wrist. There was no watch on it, and he frowned. He wore his watch on his left hand, which was in the sling, and he struggled to take a look at it. The numbers on the dial were blurry at best, and he had no idea which line was the long or short one. There was no way he'd be able to tell what time it was.

"Late," he replied, thinking that was a safe, and correct answer. He motioned for the bartender and pushed some money his way, paying for both his own and for Suri's drinks. And a tip, though it was not that great of one. Still, the bartender seem contented.

"You should probably head out, if you've got to teach. I... need to get back to the library," for once, he actually sounded miserable about the idea. He loved his job. He didn't love his job when he was drunk. Of course, chances were very high that he would sit down on the sofa and fall to sleep immediately. "Good luck with your... ah... thing. The neighborhood watch thing."

The reminder of her responsibilities should have been a sobering experience, but as the room continued to spin, Suri began to realize exactly how much she'd had to drink, and how much of it she was going to feel the next morning. This was not good. Not good at all. She wobbled out of her chair, clenching tightly to the bar to keep her balance in her heels, then took a tentative step forward, nearly spilling over in the process. She cursed and looked up to the bartender, who, it seemed, was already calling a cab.

"Yeah, I should...I should head out. You, too. You've got important book stuff..." Somewhere in her mind she was aware of how slurred her speech was, and tried to compensate for it, butall she ended up doing was speaking more slowly and frowning in distaste. "Yeah...I'll...do good with that, Tony. I will." Out of her peripheral vision, she saw the bartender round his corner and approach her: oh man, if she wanted to, she could take his starseed out right now, it would be so easy...but no. Not now. Suri could get it later, when the walls weren't so fuzzy looking.

"...See you around, Tony..."

She vaguely remembered leaving the bar area, giggling at the idea of a man's touch around her waist and then slapping him groggily. She remembered entering a cab, handing him money, though she wasn't sure if the man was speaking English or not (not that she would have known). Later, when she checked her cell phone, she noticed that she'd called Amanda, who had probably been the person to let her in her own apartment, but she didn't seem to recall any of that.

In fact, the only thing she would recall for the next day or so was a burning headache and a steadied resolve. She would have to visit the library some other time to thank Tony: he'd restored her faith in places she hadn't known she'd lost it.
