It's nothing out of the ordinary. I'm sure as the election day approaches the more ridiculous candidates will be culled from the herd. It's essentially the same thing here in the United States - there are lots of potential candidates within each of the two parties, but each party nominates only one. Well, that, and there are usually some independents knocking around as well who make it onto the ballot, but it's essentially a two-horse race.
Unless, of course, this sort of party politics isn't the norm in Poland and there aren't any clear front-runners among the candidates. Then I can picture it getting chaotic.

Of course there are clear front runners. That's why I really don't get these silly guys who think they stand any chance. I mean, I understand people like this one guy who always walks around in a uniform and is close to being a fascist - he just wants to show his different view in the debate, even though he has no chance.
But all these non-political candidates whose names are totally unknown to the public...
And... our system is different - we have more than two parties, and parties simply select their candidates without a wide public debate. They do check who's more popular etc, but they select their candidates on their own, and usually by the party cabinets. There was one slight exception to this 'tradition' - this year the ruling party told the public they will select a candidate out of two proposed persons. And they organized public debates of the two and made some pre-election sort of thing.
