Erm, forgive me, but I don't really know what epilepsy is. Sure I've heard of it, but I've never known the effects or anything. But as far as I'M concerned, epilepsy and Loli are completely irrelevant. Just because you're disabled in some way shouldn't stop you from wearing what you like. It's like asking, "hey, I lost an arm, but can I still wear jackets?". Well, that's how it seems to me anyway.

Plus, being cheap is being smart! Especially if you can make it look spiffy. Honestly, who cares about what it's made of? If it looks nice, you're fine. And if people DO care about what it's made of...then they're just being elitists (I think I spelt that wrong). Don't let anything stop you from what you deserve!

epilepsy is "A disorder of the brain that results in recurrent, unprovoked seizures"

And the reason why she's concerened about it, is because, what I assumed, is that sometimes when you have seizures, you lose function of a lot of things. And you tend to maybe wet yourself. So why waste $100 on a beautiful lolita dress when it will get dirty from falling, and possibly stained with your bodily wastes?

Hope this help clear it up for you suzori.

ooohhh, I get it now. Sorry about that. Hm...Well, I say go for it anyway. I mean, if you're gonna have fun while you're wearing it, then wear it--just somehow find materials that get are more convenient to clean, I guess? But I still think that you should get out there and enjoy yourself anyway--you at least deserve that, right? wink

Plus, don't even worry about the "being untrue" thing. The people who are being untrue are those who are too strict with others and themselves. The way I see it, you are being totally "true" to the spirit of Lolita. Don't feel discouraged if people ever happen to think otherwise, because you know they're wrong. 3nodding

*sorry if this is a little late or whatever*

I don't really consider myself to be truley lolita, and I'm still learning more and more about it, but my initial take on it was the style of dress. Sure, I like to have finer and nicer materials, but one must admit, it can be terribly expensive and inconvenient. And like many other things in fasion, I believe that washability and comfort are just as important as the look of something. On a slightly different note (and again, I'm no expert) but I thought part of the lolita thing was to be polite and sweet, very lady-like. Just how polite or lady-like is it to belittle other people based on the clothing they choose? I'd say go with what works. Wear cotton or polyester or whatever works. There are plenty of fabrics that are pretty durable and are perfectly washable that look nice. I'm reminded of a couple of shirts that my fiance has... the first one I bought him was silk, really nice looking, and some time later I bought another shirt for him that was designed different, but was made of polyester (these were both button up shirts with a flame design on them). After a couple of wears and washes of the silk one (and I was sure to wash it very carefully much like the directions told me to) it looked rather shabby.... Much of the stitching and embroidery has started coming off, and it looks really ratty. The polyester one still looks in terrific condition! Plus you can just throw it in the washer with everything else. In the end, the polyester one looks the best, and it was one-fifth the price, so why bother. Really.

I'm sorry, I've started rambling. Anyways, good luck, and ignore those elitist idiots.

Don't worry about the elitists. You are clearly quite dedicated, with that you're doing a great job. keep it up. Being rather new to sewing I don't have the best advise about fabric.

I dont' think that others should say "You're not lolita" for something like that. It might look nicer with expensive lace, but if you need to use other types, then it shouldn't matter right?

oh, wow...that's horrible. D: *hugs you*

I think you're right, that fashion is alive. it's always evolving and changing. it might be a bit tougher to pull off loli fashion in different fabrics like that, but I'm behind you 100%. ^___^ you seem like you've been through alot of tough things in your life.

besides, I'd love to see the wonderful ideas you come out with!

I agree with craziland too. You are obviously very dedicated to lolita and it's all really a mindset. the fashion is just an outward, obvious way of showing it to the world.

Good luck with your epilepsy...I hope it gets under control so you can live your life without fear. A friend of my sister's had to get a brain operation to fix his, and he's been seizure free since. i can figure out what the procedure is so you can ask your doctor...obviously this would be a last resort, but...it sounds pretty severe. D: good luck with loligoth too. ^_^

I'm not a hardcore lolita, so my opinion on the matter may not be as strict. I view lolita as a very stunning sense of fashion as well as a rather classic attitude in the way one presents themselves to the public both in manner and appearance. I do not think that being "lolita" should be restricted under very uptight values, as if it were some mantra that cannot be desecrated lest something terrible befall you.
It is wonderful to see that you have a passion for the lolita style and would like to incorporate this into your lifestyle. We all have a right to strive for something that brings us happiness and no one has the right to put you down because of it.
I say, of course you can do this. That's what fashion is all about anyway. If you can create the right style with different materials at your disposal I find that to be very creative and crafty. Not to mention you yourself being a versatile clothing designer.
I wholeheartedly support you in this and wish you the best of luck in finding the right supplies to work with. It is indeed unfortunate that you have this situation, but it's motivating to see you dealing with it and doing the best with what you have. *have a cookie & a hug* whee

I'm like that too! I dressed up like an american hardcore goth one day and I was still 'cute'.
*hugs* I'm sure that whatever you make will be beautiful!

Just use what fabrics you want to use, if your comfortable in it and it's easy for you to clean then it doesn't matter what it is.

Anyway I hope you get the right sort of medication that'll stop you from having so many fits soon. My little brother has epilepsy but he doesn't have so many fits thanks to his medication now.

I think that material doesn't matter at all as long as it's comfortable and it looks good.

I understand the trouble you're going through, and I think that it's really great that you want to find away around it so you can keep doing something that you like. I wish I had that kind of ability to stick to what I like, even though I was having trouble. But, anyway-

Good luck!

in my opinion, being a lolita is alot more than just wearing the pretty clothing and the styles. But i think its also a big part of your attitude and personality.

I am a heavier girl and i have to make all my own lolita clothes...which i do, now, even for a living. 3nodding But i think being a Lolita is so much more than just wearing the gown...if you can't afford it to be expenisve--it doesn't matter. Really, because you make the clothes you are in.

Buy Cheap lace, buy cheaper fabrics, as long as you feel you are a Loli-baby and you can hold your head up high and proudly love being who you are. A Lolita should always be filled with pride and respect, should be happy and lovely. If you can love the lolita styles and want to continue it without hurting the beautiful "holy" clothing--loli's pride themselves as sacerments--than you are a very strong lolita.

But that is just my opinion.

I really dislike how people use the term "cheap"
It gives off an impression that it isnt as good.
When that just isnt always the case.

Now, I myself am not lolita. [I'm just beggingin to get into it, so.. I know nothing about materials and the like.. but here's my 2 cents..]
Much like some other people are saying.. I'm really proud of you for attmepting to continue being lolita, even in your condition. Kudos to you. =3

And.. as well, like most other are saying. You should pick stuff that YOU like. Its understandable that others opinions are important, but if anyone ever looks down on your for it.. Just give them the cold shoulder.. they dont have the right to do such things.. ^-^

I do know its possible to get nice materials for less the price, I do have one friend who is lolita, and she got a really nice underskirt at the salvation army.. and it doesnt dirty either.. So. Just do your best to help your own situation.

I know you can pull it off. Best of Luck, Hun. 3nodding

Dude... Thats gatta be harsh. But that doesn't mean you have to give up! Well my suggestion is cotton/pollyester and the selection of colors to be dark. Cause my mom has stuff thats like 60% cotton 40% polly. and it just brushes right off. Plus may i add in a baby brush. They are light, soft bristled, easy to carry around, and cute. It can get the dirt off without doing much damage to your clothes. And if you use dark colors and you miss some dirt, it wont show up very well.
