Well, for me it's largely a tie between Luther and Kyrenx. Kyrenx takes one of the most common sub-types (I say sub because it's always paired up with another type) in the game and turns it into a beast of destruction. Coupled with his extensive knowledge of the Metagame (which seems to be a requirement for most gym leaders, as they all seem to have it), and you can see why most challenge him later on (that and the "Thieving Magpies" He's got with him wink ). I also respect Luther very well because he uses my favorite type, and he obviously knows what he's doing with it. Another reason I'm challenging him first. If I'm gonna test myself against the best, why not the one who uses the powers of Darkness?
I've seen the others around at least a few times, but the only one I can't say anything about it Sideris, as I've never really seen him around the various threads I check up on, and I haven't looked at his Gym recently. Perhaps when it comes time for me to battle him, I'll learn more about the man who weilds the powers of the mind...
As for In-game Gym leaders, I'm in the same boat as Hollow. I just took 'em on, nabbed the badges, and moved on. If I had to pick one...Either Lance or Byron. I had my toughest battles against lance in my old Gold version, and there's something about Byron that appeals to me...Aside from that, not much on the in-gamers.

An underling who works with a Gym Leader. A perfect example would be Terra the Yamabushi , who is an apprentice of Nitrox Dragon.

lol i wanna apprentice a gym leader =P I would say somethin about cormini, luther, and sideris but I haven't gone up against them. I haven't gone against nitrox either but i know that anyone that is a grass gym leader on this guild then they must know how to use them right =P All the leaders here have more knowledge than I could have anticipated and it's overwhelming and yet exciting at the same time. Never have I been pushed as hard on a game as i have been with Pokemon. Modern Warfare 2 doesnt compare to the actual need of strategy in Pokemon >.<

And that is actually funny, the one who proposed it, the one with less votes XD Well, Luther was the original one who proposed the apprentice idea and has yet to keep a stable apprentice longer than a few days. pirate

Well, as far as I know they're kinda like the trainers you would see in most In-game Gyms. The work with the leader, usually using pokemon of the Gym Leader's type and trying to make sure you're worthy of fighting said GL. Once again, I use the example of Terra and Nitrox, as before you can face Nitrox, you have to go up against Terra.
