Spenta did not know how to proceed. He had to tread carefully lest he anger his brother. Angra had been acting docile as of late and Spen didn't know how much longer that would last. It was hard to tell with Angra. His moods changed in the blink of an eye, and that was a risk Spen did not want to take with his beloved Kizuka so near.
"Keep the peace," he mumbled ever-so-softly under his breath to Kizuka. He looked back to his brother, offering a smile. "I thank you, Angra, for bringing me here. I had wondered where Kizuka had gone to; she left me cold in a cave after our night together." His smile widened, his expression bright. "You know how wily women can be, I'm sure, brother." Spenta forced a chuckle that he hoped sounded sincere -- all he wanted to do was keep Kizuka and his cubs safe from Angra.
He turned back to Kizuka, a fierce expression in his eyes. "And you, why did you not send word that you were with child?" His eyes pleaded that she merely play along with his charade. It was the only plan he had.

She knew what his eyes pleaded, but playing along would do nothing to ease what Kizuka had to tell him. She had missed him ever since he had left, and though she was overjoyed with her pregnancy, as it was a piece of him she could keep, it was difficult. Even more difficult now, because even if Angra had promised to keep his peace and leave Kizuka and Spenta's children alone, they could never be together.
Her eyes were deep and her words were sorrow filled, "Spenta, I wanted to tell you myself. Some things have changed since I last saw you...Can we speak privately?"

Angra nodded curtly, and abandoned the pair for better things to do. "Have fun brother." He said coldly eye's averting and body moving quickly. His mood had diminshed and perhaps it was safer if he did leave them to their own misfotune.

Spenta breathed freely, crimson eyes closing in relief. He hadn't expected his brother to leave so easily. Spen was silent for a moment, waiting to be sure his brother was truly gone before turning to Kizuka.
He paused for only a moment before moving in close to nuzzle her taut belly. "You are with child," he murmured, almost in wonder. His blood was a part of her own, pulsed within the cubs that curled in her womb. "What has changed since last we spoke, despite the obvious?"
He grinned at her, pleased by the prospect of being a father. Of course, the knowledge loomed in his mind that they could never be together on a permanent basis, but he wouldn't let that bother him now.

A small smile lit up her face at Spenta's excitement over his children, but the sadness remained in her eyes. Where would she start? Telling him everything was becoming difficult for her even though she had played it out in her head many times. She had tried to prepare herself, but it was harder than she thought.
"Several weeks after we parted, the leaders of my pride had passed on. Within days our council convened, and," She sighed,"my sister and I were chosen as the new leaders."
Kizuka leaned closer to Spenta, giving him a loving lick on the face, and looked at him pleadingly, for understanding, compassion, anything, "Spenta, I didn't know I was with your cubs at the time and agreed to take the position. A condition of my new rank is an arranged mate, our war leader. He's allowed that you be there for the birth, but he doesn't want you seeing me again. He feels I will not fulfill my duties to him and he's right."
Kizuka's eyes were wet with tears, and soon her fur was too. She couldn't keep herself from being so upset, from crying,"If I knew I was with your children I would not have agreed to it, but I can't leave now."

It was hard for Spenta to keep his cool, to not roar out his anguish to the Gods. There had been hope, just a little bit, that perhaps Kizuka would be safe for Spenta to be around, especially now that Angra knew of her. It wasn't as if Angra knew exactly where her pride was located; being together could've been simpler.
As it was, he calmly licked her tears away, pink tongue rasping out to brush ever-so-gently against her fur. "My kitten," he whispered, "We will have to make use of the time we have."
He hated to see her cry and cherished her smiles as they came. It was torture for him to see Kizuka like this when it should've been a happy time for them both.
"They will stay with their mother," he purred, nosing her cheek. "They will be safe with you, won't they?" He didn't want to talk about leaving her now, but it had to be done. Steps had to be taken to insure that his children would be cared for and not harmed because of their rogue father.
"If there are problems with any cub, send word for me. I will come to this spot often to watch for a messenger from you." His voice broke as he continued, "I do not want these cubs to turn out like my brother." Composing himself, he sat in silence for a few moments before idly nibbling her ear, "How long until their birth?"

Kizuka nodded as Spenta licked away her tears, "The cubs will be safe. They would never be harmed. That's not how the pride conducts themselves. If I had done something wrong, which I have not, it would be me who was punished."
It was true. Kizuka was safe from any punishment as she had conceived before she was bound to the pride's war leader. And if he did ever lay a hand on her cubs, he would pay severely.
"They would never turn out like him," Kizuka said, licking Spenta's face and purring for him, "You're their father."
Kizuka sat back onto her hand legs, her belly looking much bigger as she sat. She placed a paw on it, smiling a little, feeling the movement of them within her, "They're due soon. I can tell. They won't stop moving."
Kizuka let Spenta feel her stomach before she got back on her feet to lead him to where the den she would give birth in was. She was glad he would be there for the birth, she was so afraid he wouldn't have been. At least now her fears were laid to rest.
