Fliance shook and whimpered until he heard her talk. She didn't sound as scary as she looked. And she couldn't move any faster than a walk? Curious. If she couldn't then she certainly couldn't catch him if he ran. He'd learned that Shiloh couldn't either. Maybe he thought he could but he couldn't. This was comforting enough that that shaking the stopped. Once the shakes had left him he inched to the edge of the bushes and peaked through. Now that he looked, really looked, perhaps she wasn't that bad. She was ugly yes. But the ugly was just massive scaring. No one in their right mind would self inflict that many scars. Tentatively he put himself back on his still somewhat shaky legs and tottered out of the brush.

He looked over at the worried Shiloh. "This is your caretaker? I thought she was going to eat me." He realized what he'd said after he'd said it and winced as he then addressed her. "No offense meant. Past experience has taught me to be wary of anything even remotely scary. I don't want to be run off again. I've been running far too long."

He tottered over to her shyly. "I am Fliance. I watched my parents get killed brutally before my own eyes. I've been running ever since. I saw Shiloh playing and I've not played in so long...I just wanted to. Please tell me you understand? I am sorry for running away from you. I am sure you're actually very nice."

The colt watched as Fliance made another appearance, glad that his new friend hadn't run off. Shiloh seriously did need to have someone to play with, since Scar was too... banged up to do anything more than stand around or walk. Come to mention it, he still hadn't gotten up the guts to ask her what happened, but to be honest he was afraid to know the truth. With a flick of a his tail the buckskin rid himself of such thoughts and returned his attention to Fliance. "Heh, yeah, I get that feeling too sometimes", he snorted, realizing awhile ago that Scar looked like she would eat just about anyone given half a chance. Of course she didn't, at least not in the time he knew her, but that had been a fair chunk of time now hadn't it? After all, he had grown from foal to yearling in her company...

Shiloh stopped this line of thought as he caught what else Fliance was saying, and couldn't quite believe what he was hearing. His parents were killed in front of his own eyes? The buckskin wasn't sure what to think of that, or even what he could say to someone who had gone through such an experiance. It was nothing similar to his own tale of abandonment, at least in the fact he wasn't sure of his parent's fate. Shifting his weight uneasily, the colt looked to Scar, unable to come up with anything remotely relative to say and hoping she wouldn't explode at the kid like he had seen her do many times before.

Ignoring Shiloh and his slighly agape expression, the mare trained her ears forward as she kept her attention on the perlino yearling. Who would come out and say such a thing right after meeting someone for the first time? Well, that didn't matter, certainly not to her anyway. The more forward someone was the better time she had understanding them, and at least this young fellow was more than willing to be forward with her. The worn out mare, whose energy was sapped from her body for the purpose of healing slowly and body who was much too painful to move around in comfortably, bobbed her head to the perlino colt and made no moves against him. After seeing how flighty he was before, Scar made the decision not to attempt to come any closer to the poor fellow.

"No offense taken little one, and believe you me, I won't be doing any 'running off' for a very long time, at least until my scars are healed up enough for me to move around without their constant ache to remind me of their presence. And even then, you seem a decent sort, and the skies above know 'Shy-Boy' here could use a friend," she explained, eerie yellow eyes keeping their attention on the young colt. That said, she didn't mind his presence, and she believed he had nothing but harmless for Shiloh. All in all, the mare judged him as no threat, and thus would allow him to stay for as long as he pleased. "That's a terrible thing to experiance Fliance, I wish held more consoling words for you, but I have little in the craft of comforting no matter how much I wish to express my condolences. Shiloh's lucky I've been adequet so far in his raising, since he too seems to have lost his real parents and birth herd as a mere foal", the mare paused as she glanced to the buckskin, her sides heaved heavily at the thought of having stuck by the colt's side all this time. It was a pain and a half to raise the poor sucker in her current condition, but it's not like she could have left him out there on his own.

With a half, almost empty smile to her muzzle she returned her attention to Fliance and made clear her intentions. "I understand you running from me, I'd understand if you still felt the need to do so now, but know this: I have no problem with you being here. In fact I'm glad someone is here to help rid that buckskin of some of his bothersome bounds of energy", she snorted a short bit of laughter, knowing full well she was embarrising Shiloh no doubt.

blinked several times as his brain processed what she'd just said. He could be here? He could stay? He danced on the tips of his hooves with nerves and excitement. "Forgive me if I hear you wrong Miss Scar, I can stay? With Shiloh? You won't run me off?" He was more than half tear choked.

"I...I...I would like a home very much. And I like Shiloh. I don't need much care. I can find my own grass and don't like trouble. I think I could even keep Shiloh out of most of the trouble he gets himself into. I'm very well behaved, perhaps a bit too skittish but Shiloh could be the brave on of us. And...and...oh god."
He quickly realized he was babbling and asking something that was probably very out of the blue and even more rude and out of the question. She didn't need another half grown male to take care of. Though Fli wasn't exactly all that much a child as Shiloh was. He bowed his head in apology. "Forgive me. I speak before I think. I do not mean to ask such big things of those I hardly know."

She was just trying to embarass him now, right? Even though he knew the chocolate mare was playing the colt couldn't help but feel a bit riled up over the things she was saying. Perhaps it was selfish of him to do so, considering how the conversation with Fliance was going, but the yearling was dealing a bruised ego. About to open his big mouth and say something to her, he was cut off when Fliance asked if he could say. ... You mean, he could have a friend that would be around to play with him? The colt's eyes went wide as he turned to Scar, even as the perlino yearling apologized Shiloh had a look of hope on his face that really had never been there before. "So, you're gonna let Fliance stay?" he asked, ears pricked forward and muscles twitching as if he got the jitters or nerves about him. "I promise I won't bug you as much", he added, hoping to sweeten the deal.

Oh my, did she just happen to have scent about her? Something that attracted young mustangs to her side that needed or wanted to be taken care of? Perhaps some cruel unknown of the world was playing a trick on her, laughing as she flaundered to provide the guidence needed to raise such beasts. Still, she could see the hope in Fliance as he indeed babbled on, and even the sincerity of his apology. Well, she had been nothing but social in years past, and probably wouldn't mind the company, even if her temperment was less hospitable now a days. Briefly she glanced to Shiloh as he made his childish plea and honestly wondered if it was even possible to deny the two right now. Shiloh would certainly be cross with her if she did, and it didn't feel right to leave Fliance out in the world with how much he seemed to want more permenant company. Who was she to turn them down?

With a half smile and an amused snort from her nostrils the scarred mare took a few step towards Fliance and gave his cheek a nudge with the tip of her muzzle. "You can stay if that's what you'd like to do, young one. I don't get much company anymore, and I use to love meeting new mustangs anywhere on the plains," she told him, and gave that short bark of a laugh at herself for sounding so old. Geez, she was only 6! The mare tossed her head to the skies and made a show of lifting her legs in a mock prance- the best she could muster in her current state of healing, and flashed them both a toothy grin. "Well boys, assuming Fliance would still like to join us, how would you like to spend the rest of the day?" It had been a long while since she had felt just a trickle of excitablity, but the mare seemed to be in high spirits. At least considering how she's been for the past few months. A time to right the wrongs in the world would come, but for now, she might as well be content to live with pleasant company.

His jaw dropped when he heard Shiloh beg for him to stay and then he could have sworn it fell off when Scar answered Shi's pitiful plea with a yes. Her touch had taken him by mild surprise but he hadn't shied. And then she danced and he joined her in the revelry, prancing in a circle on his hind legs. "Thank you! Thank you! Oh god I don't have to run ever again!" He pranced, whinnied, and even danced up to Scar to nuzzle her neck. Then he pranced over to Shiloh to nose him playfully. "Can we go find some good grass? I'm hungry." She grinned widely and was happy for the first time in ages. So all three of them were dysfunctional. This was still going to be fun.

She actually said yes? Shiloh whinned and tossed his head to the skies, estatic that he'd finally have someone else to hang around with. Don't get him wrong, Scar was all good and dandy when it came to taking of him, but with her condition she wasn't much of a play mate. And to a growing colt, that was absolutely essential. "You won't regret it!" he was quick to assure his mentor and substitute parental figure. Scar hadn't been much of a mom persay, but she did get him out of trouble when ever he stuck his nose into it. Wait a minute, was it just him, or was she more welcoming to Fliance than she was him? ... Possibly. Color the yearling suspicious, but he seemed to remember a good bit of guff when he tried to tag along with her for the first time. Quickly the buckskin snapped out of such thoughts and gave a little kick in celebration. "Lunch sounds good", he agreed with a grin, calming down to take a survey of the land around them. Where was a good place to find the tastiest grass?

She actually took in another one. There was nothing more finalizing than repeating the same action twice, and apparently the mare formaly known as Spook was allowing herself to dabble in what she'd always wanted. Permanet company. Exactly how permanet she didn't know quite yet, they were after all free to leave her if they wished, but flaxen maned mustang hoped that wouldn't be for a long time to come. Try as she might, it was nice to have someone to look out for, even if they did get themselves into more trouble than they could chew- Shiloh, that was. Still, for the first time in a while she was feeling more and more like her old self. The scarred mare often looked back into years the recent years past and scoffed at how naive and bratish she had been, taking pleasure whenever she pleased without regards to who wanted her around, and always the carefree-happy sort. Now? Well now was quite a different story, one she didn't like reflecting on too often, so she abruptly stopped the train of thought with a dose of the present. "Alright then, lead the way Shi-boy", the mare urged at the nuzzle to her neck. That certainly hadn't happened in awhile, as she supposed most folks didn't want to get any where near her scars, much less touch them.

Fli trotted happily...for the fist time in as long as he could remember...beside his two new companions. He hoped this would turn out well and mentally promised himself he'd never be much of a bother to Scar. He looked little but running and seeing had made him do alot of growing up. Alot more that Shi had done. But Shi would also be good for him. A wild balance to his shy calculating demure. He needed to remember what fun and carefree was...he'd just remember that fun and caution could be had. He smiled as he lost himself in the methodical walking and his dreams of what his new life could be.

In the days that followed, Shiloh had begun to think of his time with Scar as less of a necessity and more or a privilege. He had previously thought the beaten up mare to be distant and cold hearted, despite taking him in she didn't take to most strangers too kindly and was always getting onto him about watching what he was doing or keeping an eye on the surroundings. Now though, he wasn't so certain. She had taken in yet another misfit without so much as balking at the idea, and for what? It certainly didn't benefit her in any way, but then again neither did taking care of him as a foal. Perhaps, well, perhaps he didn't give her enough credit when it came to kindness.

That being said, Shiloh was ecstatic to have Fliance around to play with! The buckskin yearling certainly took advantage of the fact someone his own age had taken an interest in hanging around and it seemed there just weren't enough hours in the day to contain the fun he wanted have. So instead of wasting time thinking about it or just lazing the afternoon off, Shiloh blurted out the following: "Hey! Its all bright and sunny, I bet there's tons of stuff to do today." Now the question was... what to do?
PostPosted: Mon Jun 27, 2011 10:44 pm

And there went the peace and quiet, as it always did when Shiloh opened his mouth. None the less Scar gave a loud snort and tossed her head to the skies. "Indeed, it is a sunny day despite the chill. Why don't you let Fliance pick what to do this time?" the mare 'suggested', though even that sounded as if she hadn't said it in the means of simply considering the request; she expected Shiloh to follow the advice. Once her wounds healed completely there's no doubt she'd show these youngsters- ugh, that made her sound old and it displeased her greatly. In truth, Scar was no more than a few years their senior, full of life and energy as long as she had the body to maneuver in; which, at the moment she did not. Eventually, she reminded herself, patience would pay off and she'd be able to keep up with the two more efficiently, for as it was, even in her battered state Scar still had the build of a finely tuned lean muscle mustang.

Fliance rolled on his back and stared at the cloudless blue sky. It had been very different not having to worry about who might be over the next turn to torment him and he'd relaxed a great deal. The outside world and it's traps still made him wary but it helped to know that there were at least two people in the world that had your back. "Haven't you ever just wanted to do nothing Shi? With how twitchy you are, you'd think beetles were consuming you from the inside out." He got up and then stretched out one back leg and then the other. "If it was warmer we could go swimming. I love swimming." He turned in a circle and swished his short pale colored tail. "I don't know. Can't handle all the running and jumping and bouncing all the time. Scar," he turned to look at the mare, "what did you play as a young horse?"
PostPosted: Tue Jun 28, 2011 11:30 pm

Oh, fine. The colt just couldn't help but keep himself constantly moving, and there was always something he wanted to do, but he knew better than to back-talk with Scar. She always won the arguments, no matter how hard he tried to persuade her. And besides, he supposed it would be nice to have Fliance pick the game. "Beetles?" he quipped, his brow furrowing as he stuck his tongue out and shook his head at the idea. Beetles were disgusting, it made his skin crawl just thinking of the little nasty pests. "I dunno, it just seems like a waste not to do something," he admitted, rolling his shoulders in an equine shrug. Careless just happened to be his middle name, according to Scar anyway. Though Fliance raised an interesting point and the buckskin turned his head and perked his ears in their guardian's direction, curiosity easily written onto his face. It wasn't often that Scar talked about herself, especially when he was the one asking the questions, so Shiloh was definitely interested in hearing this answer.

Before she knew it the conversation had turned to a subject she'd rather not talk about, herself. Though there was one thing Fliance said that actually got a bit of a laugh from the chocolate flaxen mare. "You know, it was only been four years since I was yearling," she grinned, yellow eyes gazing at the both of them. "I use to love sparring with all the colts, and pestering the adults-" she stopped mid-sentence as she caught the look on Shiloh's face and instantly snorted at the buckskin as he attempted to withhold a smirk. "Not that you should be getting any ideas about pestering a certain adult", she added for his benefit, before returning to Fliance's question. "But you know, I kind of like the idea of just letting the clouds roll by, it was nice and quiet", she finished, keeping Fliance's earlier comment in mind. He did seem like the calmer of the two, and if she was lucky, some of that would stick to Shiloh... if only she were that lucky. Either way, the mare stepped forward to give each of them a n** and nuzzle respectively, what ever they decided to do, she'd be there to keep an eye on them.
