"I would hope not," Illidan chuckled. "I appreciate your efforts." He paused a moment, then moved his head to look at her as they walked. "And your companionship. You aren't like the others and I find that refreshing." He settled back into a quiet, easy lope beside her again.

That statement Alaina didn't know what to do with. She wasn't like the others. It seemed like Illidan considered that a compliment but Alaina wasn't so certain herself. Did it mean he felt she was more like him, a kalona? Maybe it was more that he felt like she wasn't immediately attacking him for being a kalona. Inwardly she dryly wondered if he'd had said the same thing if he knew she was only showing him around to keep an eye on him.
How long would it take her to be able to believe he wasn't gong to kill anyone in these new lands? To that Alaina had no answer. She had a hard time believing she would ever fully trust any kalona. What Alaina didn't notice was that, while thinking, she had fallen in step with Illidan in the natural way for a soquili to herd with its own kind. Though she might have been on guard in her mind her body was relaxed even in the face of a stranger.

Illidan loped along, taking in the scenery. "Is it much farther, this place you thought I would like?" Though he didn't say it, it was there in his voice, that he wasn't ready to part ways from her just yet. He'd found her intriguing and wanted to talk with her more, only had no words and, like him, she was quiet as well.

"It will take us until late afternoon to get to the edge of the territory and longer to explore it more fully," she said thoughtfully. It was a wide area and if the stallion wanted to live there she would expect he would want to get a good look around. It would probably take another couple days to really scope the area out. She'd be with him for another few days at the very least, and that was if he liked it and decided that he didn't need to see anywhere else.
"It has good access to water," she added as an afterthought. "That's important no matter where you live."

The stallion nodded thoughtfully. "Water is always important as is food," he murmured. "Are there many fruits and grasses nearby or will I have to rely on hunting?" He would prefer not to eat game, but if that was what was available, then so be it. On the other hoof, he was pleased with the notion that the mare would be near him for several days yet. Plenty of time to get to know her better.

Alaina gave a small blink of surprise. The stallion ate fruits and grass? That went against what she knew of the kalona breed. She had thought them all to be flesh eating and blood drinking monsters. Did some eat fruit?
"I didn't know that kalonas could digest anything other than meat," she remarked. "Your teeth don't really seem suited to it." They looked like they were more used to tearing meat from bones than fruit from trees.

Illidan merely shrugged in answer. "I was once as you are. All Soquili--cursed, winged, horned, or otherwise--we all started as one breed, did we not?" He glanced at her from behind his blindfold. "Well, perhaps the skinwalkers are different, but the rest of us, we are still horses, even if special ones. Horses eat grass and fruits and grain. I still prefer that to taking another's life to sustain my own. Grass can grow back when eaten, an animal can not."
