Xieros watched as the black and blue-striped wolf retreated a few steps as soon as she bared her teeth. It was surprising that he responded in turn, she would have expected him to pounce and slash at her face or rip her ears or force her in to a chase. Strange really. . . But it was because this one had to be cunning and tricky.
Oh yes.
Tiberius could be cunning and tricky too, but after so many years Xieros had memorized most of his games and tricks. She had fallen victim to his torture and that was just the way of things. This black and blue wolf was no different. All Xieros had to do was be careful and not fall for any of his tricks. All she had to do was figure out his angle, his cruelty, and then she'd know.
Still flat as a throw rub, the petite femme watched him with distrusting eyes. Maybe it was time to go. Maybe she needed to continue on, anywhere but here. Hmph. He claimed no one would force her to stay, that he'd just let her go. Yeah, sure, she believed that. The minute she turned her back he'd pounce or he'd fellow her and wait for her faith to return only for him to break her spirit once more.
"Yes I . . . I sh-should go. But don't try following," she added making sure her fangs were bared. She didn't trust him. Males in particular had never been kind to Xieros and she couldn't so easily think that Nereus was any better.
Her leg did hurt, but she'd take the pain and the risk. She'd take starvation over becoming slave to another. Let him think she had somewhere else to go. In reality, Xieros had no where. South Seaside was so far away and she knew they hadn't cared enough to seek her out. She was the forgotten soul, the unremarkable, the unmemorable. . . She barely remembered the name or appearance of Loki and Hannah. All she could see when she closed her eyes was the demon made of night and day that he kept her, beat her, used her.
Nereus was no different.
Still completely submissive, the female continued her retreat. She didn't dare turn her back on the black male. That would surely spell doom. But she'd escape this trick before it could even begin. Growling softly, the female pushed herself away and back in to the foliage she had come from. Her silver eyes didn't budge off Nereus. . . and when she felt she was far enough away, she turned and bolted. Clumsy as she was on her hurt leg, she took the pain and hurt.
Never again.
The female would rather die alone than to be tricked and deceived again under the guise of friendship.

He watched her, the way she was retreating and as much as he wanted to convince her to stay and recover he knew she didn't trust him. It was a tragic circumstance and he only wished he knew more about who had damaged the poor female so badly. He stayed still watching her slow retreat and forcing himself not to move after her especially when she had said not to follow.
"Good luck..." He murmured softly after her waiting until she was completely out of sight.
With a soft sigh he stood and shook off before heading back deeper into the packlands struck again by a sense of how fortunate he was to be surrounded by so much trust and love. A pity the same could not be said of that poor femme.
