"That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard," he said bluntly. Talking to the smaller male was actually helping him calm down. It distracted him, even though it was the small male who had made him made. "When a male dragon who prefers men is ready to find a mate we wear white," he said. He had almost calmed down.
Then a arrow hit his head. Sure it bounce off of him harmlessly and shattered, but still. The dragon's eyes snapped open and they were completely blood red. He growled. Once again he was pissed off. A little more and he would have been calm and in control. As it was, the prince on the horse who dared to call him a wicked fiend..... Put it this way, some one was going to get either mutilated beyond recognition or just be killed.
The angry dragon turned around and faced the owner of the voice. He barely registered Chael's arms around his neck. He did however let go of him and gently, but firmly remove the boy's arms from his neck. Growling he moved the boy off to the side so he wouldn't get hurt in case he really did lose it.
He stood up straight and glared murderously at the stupid fool on the horse. Growling he couldn't speak for a while. "You are the biggest fool I have ever met. You dare to shoot Velos Prince of the Dragons in the head!"He roared. He strode up to the man and removed him from his saddle. He raised a clawed hand and aimed it like a dagger for the man's throat. He didn't care how beastly what he was about to do was. He was going to kill the man.

Chael blinked in shock and, without hesitation, ran in front of the dragon. He knew he couldn't stop Velos if the man really decided to kill the human prince. However, he could sure as hell try. "Your highness, with all due respect calm the hell down," he said softly, looking the furious male in the eye. "You are royalty. Do not lose control over the mistake of a stupid human."
Prince Verdund took that chance to move away, eyes wide with surprise. "Chael, though I do find your love and devotion to me quite charming, I will ask that you refrain from throwing yourself in front of an enraged beast to save me... or calling me stupid." The human prince said, bowing low at the waist. "I do apologize, your majesty. As you might expect, this enchanting little blond is always getting himself into trouble. I shouldn't have been so quick to assume you were harming him, but old habits die hard."
Cailean sighed heavily. "Please, let Verdund and I depart. I will leave you to your sleep if that is what you desire. Violence will solve nothing and would be a waist of energy regardless."

The dragon was about to strike when Chael got in his way. Velos froze mid strike and stopped just centimeters from hitting the boy and killing him. He stayed like that with his eyes locked on Chael's. The boy was either incredibly brave or incredibly stupid. Those to sentences Chael spoke while looking into his eyes cut through his rage filled brain more than anything else. They sounded like something his father would say. At the thought of his father he started to calm down. He would be severely punished if he killed the human prince. He started to take deep breaths.
His eyes shot from Chael to Prince Verdund. "You keep quiet if you wish to live," he said. he turned his gaze back to Chael and listened to what he said. Slowly he turned his claws to fingers and finally put his arm down at his side. He was as calm as he was going to get at the moment.
"I owe you and apology and a thank you little human," he said. The red had faded from his eyes. He offered his hand for a hand shake as he had seen humans do. "You may go," he said.

The trip back to the palace was long and tedious. Chael listened halfheartedly as the clingy human boasted about his adventures in the vast unknown. it made the blonde fairly jealous. After all, he had never had the opportunity for adventure and probably never would.
The moment they arrived at the castle, he hurried past their scaly guests and climbed the steps to his tower. Collapsing onto his bed, he sighed and let himself enjoy the peace and quiet that came with being away from others. Yawning cutely, he slipped under the covers and let his long lashes flutter closed. He was exhausted and he hardly expected anyone to bother him. he had already locked the door just in case his father sent a stray noble his way.

Velos watched Chael go until he was inside the castle. Then he turned and wandered around until he came to another sunny clearing. He laid down and watched the sky, thinking. He needed to ask around for the boy's name since he had not asked for it from the boy himself. His future bride.
After lying there for about ten minutes he got up and stretched. Then he walked back to the castle himself. On the way he asked about the boy and found out his name. Chael. He found he liked the name. Now that he knew it he went back to the dining room.
When he entered the room, it immediately fell silent. When he spoke his spoke in a normal tone of voice. His presence demanded silence and that is what it got.
"I have made my choice. Chael will be my bride. Please have him ready to leave in two hours," he said. With that he turned around and walked out of the dining room. The rest of the dragons followed suit, except for his father. The king had to tie up any loose ends before their departure. He would join them when he was done. Velos and the others went outside to the spot they had landed when they arrived. The others, no longer duty bound, left and Velos was left alone.
He watched the others as they left. No doubt they would tell everyone when they arrived. The prince's mate was a human. He laid down and rested his head on his legs. He was looking forward to going home. He started to think about how he was going to explain the ways of dragon culture to a human. We'll have to take it one step at a time. He sighed. He was going to bed when he got home, it was getting late anyway.

Silence stretched over the humans as the dragons left the room. There was an unspoken dread dwelling within each inhabitant of the castle. After all, Velos had just made, in the minds’ of the humans, a very dower mistake. Why? The answer was simple. They all knew Chael would not submit to the man. His hate and distrust of dragons were very well known, as was his stubbornness. Prince Verdund had turned purple with rage and the King was clearing his throat.
“Well,” his majesty mumbled, glancing at his brother (Chael’s father) and giving the other an uncertain look. “I suppose now is as good a time as any.“ Without another word, he shoed a couple of servants off to inform Chael of his ‘lucky news. What happened next was more outrageous than he had expected. The servants returned half an hour later, having spent a great deal of time trying to get the boy‘s attention.
“S-sir,” One slave stammered, eyes focused on the floor. “H-he said… he declines. He… will not marry Velos.”
Well, this certainly wouldn’t do. Of course, no one wanted to tell the dragons of the boy’s refusal s they spent the next hour and a half struggling to get the boy dressed and ready. Sadly, Chael had locked his door and barred it, placing a charm on the door that was meant to keep dragons from entering the room just in case.. Needless to say, all efforts were fruitless.
When the time finally came for Chael to be presented to the dragon, the boy’s father exited the castle in his place. “I-I apologize sire. He… rejects…”
This had never happened before. A HUMAN could not reject being the bride to a mighty dragon. In fact, the man couldn’t think of one time in their history a human had rejected a dragon. This was bad. It was… the worst offense.

Velos waited, growing impatient the whole time. Did it really take two hours to get a human boy ready to leave?! His tail flicked from side to side to show his impatientce. When the time finally arrived he smelled a human coming toward him. He looked at the human expectantly and was surprised that is wasn't his bride.
Then he had to listen to what the human before him had to say and his impatience turned to outrage. Chael. A little HUMAN had rejected him?! He growled softly and brought his head level with the human's.
"I must have heard you wrong. It sounded like you said Chael rejects," he said. His eyes bored into the eyes of the man before him and he huffed.
"Since you are incomendint in bringing me my bride, I will go and get him myself," he said. He turned into his human form.
"Take me to him. He is coming with me willingly or not," he growled.
This outrage would not go unpunished. A human rejecting a dragon? The boy was going to pay.

The sound of angry footsteps moving up the staircase towards his tower was Chael’s first indication that the dragon had heard the news and was displeased. He found himself thankful that he had learned that incantation from his mother. It certainly came in handy. He had never thought he would have to use it. She had said ‘it will keep even the most powerful of any creature out of your bedroom.’ He was confused as to why it was only in the bedroom that the spell worked, but accepted the fact silently.
He decided it would be best to get his most important things together, mostly because he might have to run away after this. He shuffled silently through his things, pulling out a small music box. The object was blood red, engraved with a script he didn’t recognize from his studies but could somehow understand.
“The war begins and ends with light,” he whispered to himself, shaking his head in confusion as he opened the case. A soft, lulling voice met his ears, soothing him like a distant memory. Wrapped in a soft black cloth, was a small blue gemstone strung on a chain of silver. Hearing footsteps grow louder, he quickly put the necklace on, tucked it under his clothing, and his the music box in his bag.
His mother had given him the necklace before she died, claiming it belonged to his ‘Father.’ He hadn’t quite understood when she told him there was a difference between ‘Father’ and the King’s brother, his Papa. All he knew, was that this necklace was important. It seemed to radiate heat, warming his skin. Sometimes he and his one and only friend, an Elvin prince, would gaze at it in infatuation; the prince never daring to touch after having his skin scalded the first time when Chael was four.
Somehow, he felt safe with it around his neck, but also increasingly aware. A strange knot formed in his stomach as a wave of trepidation washing over him. This foreboding feeling always seemed to come when he wore the necklace, but it was stronger now than before. It didn’t matter. He would just have to ignore it and hope for the best. After all, he knew he would escape in the end. He just needed the right opportunity to outsmart the dragon prince.

Velos moved fast and tried not to rip the humans around him apart. When they arrived at Chael's room he slowed and stopped before the door. His senses were screaming danger. He could feel powerful magic coming from the room and its purpose was to keep him out. He stared at the door and let his eye sight slip so he could see the treads of magic. His eyes widened. Even his strongest spells wouldn't get him through that door or into the room. The whole room was protected the same way.
He came to a rather embarrassing decision. If he couldn't get in the way he was, strong and powerful, he was going to have to get in by weakening himself greatly. The only way he knew that was to turn himself into a child. This was going to be mortifying.
He turned to the human who had guided him here. "I suggest you get back. I've never done this spell before," he said. Then he faced the door again. It was true, he had never performed this particular spell before. It didn't have a name and was unpredictable. It would turn him into a child yes, but if he messed up it would also turn those around him into children.
His staff appeared in his hand and he bowed his head and closed his eyes. In a soft voice he chanted the spell in Dragon tongue. He hoped he did this right. There was one thing all dragons feared. Their magic. Dragon magic was extremely hard to control, it was like their tempers.
"Montica nomanna isomaca kayona," he chanted. His chanting sounded like beautiful singing.
As he chanted his body changed and became smaller. His clothes got too big and hung off him. When he stopped chanting and raised his head again, he was a child again. He opened his eyes and looked at his hand.
"Let's see if this worked," he said in a child's voice. It sounded strange to his ears. He had forgotten what he sounded like as a child. He reached out and tried the door. There was resistance, a cracking sound, and then the door swung open. He walked into the room and saw Chael packing.
"Chael, your coming with me," he said his voice that of his younger self. He looked up at Chael who was now taller than him.

Chael blinked in shock when the door swung open. However, he did not see the tall, hulking dragon he had expected. Instead, a small boy stood before him, looking adorably serious and quite peeved. Had his majesty… turned himself into a child to break through the spell. Of course, there was always a loophole. He sighed heavily as he looked down at the small boy, seeming quite irritated himself. It was hard to be intimidated by a child, especially such a cute one.
“Your majesty, turning yourself into a seven-year-old hardly compels me to obey you.” he hissed smoothly, picking the man up with relative ease and setting him on the bed. “Though it was a clever trick to break through my wards. I uphold my rejection. I have no interest in you or living amongst your kind. Even if you should bring me to your home, I will merely escape.” He kept his tone clipped and calm. One of the human servants in the doorway sighed and slapped her forehead, knowing this would certainly not bode well.
With a wave of his hand, the boy brought the spell down, enabling the dragon prince to turn into his usual self at will and turning away to collect a few other trinkets. The necklace warmed his skin. He felt… safe with it on, despite the way it seemed to pull him towards the dragon prince.

The little dragon boy blushed as he was picked up with ease and set on the bed. Okay so he wasn't very intimidating like this and, much to his embarrassment, he didn't have the strength to turn himself back to his proper size. Also at this age his dragon form wasn't strong enough to get them both back to the mountain. Then there was the side effect. Not only did he look like a child and have the strength of a child, but his mind set was of a seven year old as well. Things were about to get very embarrassing.
Little Velos looked at the bed as Chael rejected him to his face. Then he did something that would surprise everyone. He pouted and then he started to cry.
"Wahh! Ahah wahh! Your mean Chael!" he cried. He got off the bed and ran to the human boy, tackling his left leg and holding on tight. Velos was entirely a seven year old at the moment and thought like one. He clung to Chael's leg, his tears dampening the smooth skin.

Chael blinked in shock and horror when he say the tears. The sweet, maternal side of him suddenly set in. Blinking slightly, he leaned down and scooped the child up. “Velo’s no more tears,” he purred soothingly, kissing the boys cheeks with a surprising tenderness as he bounced the child slightly on his hip before sitting down. With a sigh, he walked over to the door and slammed it shut. “You don’t want others to see their strong, gallant prince cry.”
Very carefully, he set the boy back onto the bed and pulled out a clean handkerchief from his pocket, dabbing the tears away as he hummed softly, sweet voice meaning to soothe the upset dragon child. No one could say Chael wouldn’t make a good parent. He was usually quite good with children. He could only guess that prince man had gotten himself stuck in this form with all the ‘perks’ of a child’s mentality included. With a sigh, he came down so he and the Velos were eye level. “You are acting quite spoiled right now, your majesty, but I will help you out of this predicament only because I do not want to see you make a fool of yourself.”
Very gently, he tucked Velos under the covers and kissed his forehead, pulling out the ancient music box and opening it. The words were gentle and enchanting-- music he had listened to as a child. He reached into his bag and pulled out something else. It was transparent and glowing-- like a smoothed diamond. He handed it to the boy. “Dragons tear. I’m sure your familiar with it. It should enhance your strength in a hour or so. When you wake up from your nap, you should have the strength to be yourself again.” He took a seat on the edge of the bed, running gentle fingers soothingly through the child’s soft hair.

Velos sniffled and cuddled against Chael as he was kissed and bounced. Gradually the little boy calmed down. He looked at Chael with big blue eyes that were puffy and red from crying. His crying fit had left him sleepy and he yawned.
He let Chael tuck him in and he relaxed as he listened to the music from the music box. His eyelids soon grew heavy. Sleepily he took the Dragon's tear gently and cuddled it like it was a teddy bear.
"I've never seen one this big before," he said. He hummed quietly along with the music as he fell asleep. "Thank you Chael," he said. The last thing he was aware of before he fell asleep was Chael's fingers running gently through his hair. In his child's mind he wished Chael was his caretaker. The human was so nice and gentle.
As Velos slept a calm look appeared on his face. He looked so cute when he was asleep. You wouldn't believe he was a dragon prince at the moment.

Chael sighed and stood when he noticed the little boy had finally fallen asleep. He couldn't help but find the young Velos heartwarming. Without a word, he slipped out of the room and went down to the kitchens. Several dragons shot him dangerous warning glares. However, he ignored them, going up to one. “Please fetch me something for his majesty to dine on when he awakens.” he said smoothly. The creature blinked, showing a bit of disbelief. However, he turned on his heel and went to follow orders. Little did he know, the dragons quite approved of this behavior. He was doting on their prince.
When he returned, it was a platter with Velos’ favorites. He didn’t have the heart to leave the dragon in such a state. It was just too cruel. About an hour had passed and he smiled faintly when he saw the child stir, lashes fluttering. “Your majesty,” he whispered gently, stroking his cheek to help him awaken. “It is time to wake up. I have brought you something acceptable to eat and I’m quite sure you should be able to get back to your old self by now.”
He kept his tone gentle and soft, closing the music box as he stepped back casually. He didn’t want to be directly in the line of fire if ‘Adult Velos’ was angry for all the inconvenience.
