He considered this question just for a moment, uncertain what the appropriate answer would be. "No," he replied, after his brief pause, and then, because he could not stop himself, "Although I am unaccustomed to...this sort of attention."
Well...that wasn't quite true, he reminded himself. Before the pack had been reformed, in the days of the last Queen, there had been another female that had taken a liking to him and claimed him as her own. Odd, though, now that he thought of it, that even his Mistress had not been so gentle or so needy....

Taiyou figured this meant most of the females were cruel to him. She wrinkled her nose back in dislike, knowing that even while he was a slave he shouldn't be mistreated. "Do you like this sort of attention?" She asks curiously, tilting her head to one side again so she could look at his eyes better. She did decide she liked him, though in what way she wasn't sure. Did she like him as a slave or a wolf? This thought only confused her and she pushed it away, giving him a slight nuzzle so he might start licking her in some way or return her affection.

He pulled back from her slightly, so that he could meet her eyes; his own held a peculiar gleam. His expression was serious, perhaps too serious for the situation -- but then, Iosef was not a wolf known for his outgoing personality. "I fear we may be discovered here," he said, at length, avoiding her question. He looked at her without fear, and there was true concern in his eyes. "And I fear for your reputation, my lady, if I am seen in this proximity to you."
He smiled then, and it was a gentle, lovely smile. "If there is another service I can provide, I will gladly do it."

Taiyou sighed, recognizing that he was right. She laid down more comfortably on her belly and looked a little sad at this. She was dazzled for a moment by his smile, making her blink at him before looking away. She laid her head down on her paws and huffed, her ears flattening against her head. "If you could maybe get me a rabbit before I have to go on hunting patrol...That would be great..." She mutters, looking shut down from the rejection, even if it was for her own good.

"Of course....Taiyou," he said, hesitating a moment but choosing to use her name because he thought, perhaps, it would soften the blow of his rejection. In truth, he really rather enjoyed her company. He bowed to her, and pulled back into the tree line, moving with an almost effeminate grace.
A rabbit...that would be an altogether easier task for the wolf, and one arose less confusion in his heart.

Taiyou's ears pricked at the sound of her name, but that didn't do much to ease the heaviness in her heart. Had she been too forward with him? She knew they weren't used to females acting like she did, but she'd thought just maybe...
She growled and shook her head, lifting her head up and starting to anxiously knead the grass in front of her. She was a total idiot.

Iosef was not an exceptional hunter, but he was competent with small game. His petite frame did not give him much edge with larger beasts, but he was fast, and that was all one really needed to down a rabbit or squirrel.
He wondered how he would be greeted when he returned. He hoped, truly, that he had not offended the female; she was gentle to him, and seemed to have a good soul. He also hoped that his transgression would not get her into trouble with the Queen...and hoped also that Taiyou herself would attribute his hesitation to propriety and not....something else. So many thoughts clouding his mind.
He found a rabbit, as he had been asked, and killed it swiftly and with a jerk of his head to snap its neck. Hopefully his offering would be sufficient. Attempting to force his anxiety from his mind, he turned back the way he had come and trotted back to where he had left Taiyou in the sun.
Oh, Iosef, he thought....what have you gotten yourself into?

Taiyou's ears twitched forward when she heard him approach. Her stomach growled loudly when he smelled the rabbit with him and she couldn't help but wag her tail slightly.
While he's been gone she'd had some time to think things over. She thought maybe she was being too forward with him and that she should back off. She seemed to be in a little better of a mood when the food was presented to her. "Thank you." She murrs at him, licking her chops and dragging the rabbit closer to her with one paw.

"Of course," he replied, nodding his head graciously. He glanced around himself, looking out for anyone nearby with prying eyes or ears. They seemed alone, so far, so he felt comfortable seating himself a polite distance away and watching her with genuine fascination in his eyes. He could still feel the whisper of her touch lingering against his side and it felt strange, that memory of contact like he was so unaccustomed to receiving. "So...are you enjoying your time here?" He asked, and was legitimately curious; he had never lived in another pack, and it intrigued him to think of a life different than the one he led without it being the hell of living alone.

Taiyou is starting to munch on the rabbit now, thinking she must have been hungrier than she'd initially felt. She angles her ears towards him as she eats, thinking it interesting he asked her a question. She certainly didn't mind of course, and thought she might encourage it since she liked to talk with him. "I am. I'm still getting used to it though since the basic way of life is different than my last pack." She says, crunching particularly loud on a bone and tilting her head to the side.

"If I might ask," he thought, and hesitated, feeling it was too forward of him, but decided to forge on, "...How was your old pack? I ask only as a curiosity, having never seen another way of life....I am happy with the Antianeira! no doubt. But I do wonder, sometimes."

Taiyou blinks in surprise when he suddenly asks her a question like that all in a rush, like he was committing some awful sin by doing it. She chuckles and tilts her head to the side, stopping her eating to look at him more fully. "My old Pack?" She mulls, looking away and on purposely teasing him some. Then she grins and looks back. "Like I said it was much different. I lived far, far to the North, where all the ground was ice except for a few months of the year. Because of that most of the Pack were usually stern and harsh. If you weren't like that then you died." She said simply, shrugging her shoulder and fiddling with a bone between her paws. "It was just a few months ago that the Alpha was killed, and the Pack was broken up. I decided I didn't want to stay in such a cold place any longer and wandered down here to the South." She says, wrapping up most of her life story in a few sentences. She was genuinely curious as to what he thought about this, since he had never seen another way of life as he put it.

He shivered. "Sounds...quite unpleasant," he said, hedging as if afraid to give a judgment more forceful than that. "I would not fare well in such a pack, to be sure. I am blessed to have the protection of the Sisters or I would surely suffer greatly."

(And let the vain flirtation begin! biggrin )
Taiyou shrugged again, not really thinking of her past pack as particularly awful, just a different way of life. She thought so far she was enjoying this one much more, since it was warm and there were more friendly wolves around. "Like I said, it was life. But I think this one is much more interesting." She murrs, fluffing her fur up a little and looking at him out of the corner of her eye as she turned her head away.

In the corner of Iosef's mind, he realized that he should react to her gesture, but he couldn't quite figure out what he was supposed to do. For the moment, he decided to pretend he had not noticed the way she looked at him, and became intensely interested in studying a bluebird that had nested in a nearby tree. "I am glad to see you happy," he said, not realizing that perhaps this could be viewed as more of an invitation than a statement. "And I am sure the pack is, as well. The Queen is devoted to the well-being of the Sisters."
