this is a very cool idea, i don't think that it will help me but i know of some one this could really help, ( he takes ages to make army lists and also to play his turn)

good idea but i just right up my entire army list ((EVERY UNIT)) that i own, with their stats, equiptnment, and points cost. i put the GRAND TOTAL at the top so if we play a game with entire armys (ex. rumble in the jungle at glen burnie last weekend, i participated with my marines backed up with chaos twisted ) and i can just add points together and go realy fast instead of taking the tediusly long time of makeing an army list at the store witch takes HOURS (literaly)

THere are appropriate threads for every single one of these questions.
40K > Chaos
Painting Modeling Discussion > Painting Advice/Show off thread or ohters laying around. (Or dare I say make your own. Which is frowned upon if it is JUST for your question. Have a really damned good reason to make your own thread.)
Otherwise. After looking at this thing, I never understood what it was, but I kind of do now and it is not a bad idea at all!

I made an inventory list a while back. It's kind of hard to make stock units with Chaos, given that my entire army changes radically depending on who I'm facing.
But knowing that I have X terminators with such and such equipment does speed up that whole army-list thing.

personally i dont really like the force organisation charts for 40k, i think the (you must take X, but you can only have a maximum of Y units) is rather limiting it does work, but it just seems to limit the maximum force size
i much prefer the fantasy system, where you have to have so many core units in order to include special and rare units
it shouldnt take much tweaking to make the system fit 40k

That's why it says that you need an army of x points if you want to have X character in your army list.
But, I am hoping that soon there will be a chance of having huge games of say... over 3000 pts, so maybe I'll be able to have some Thunderhawks and Titans from Forge World and be real mean and bad a** twisted

I created something very similar to this on my laptop using excel as you sugested.
I put in the names of all my units I could possialbe have, and then one block under, all the effects I could add onto them. Then whenever I put in a number of units, it would automaticaly calculate the points of my new army etc...
It made customizing my army very easy.
Also I could save armies I found useful against an army I knew I would fight again or similar in the future.
Glad to se I'm not the only bored person here XD
