Rowan...yes of course she should have gone to her in the first place. Rowan always knew everything that was going on in the herd and quite frankly was a far better source of information then her mother was. Yes..she would go and ask Rowan. "Of course I should" She told her mother still in an irate mood "I was going to do that anyways, just thought I'd stop in and say bye first" She told her because clearly she must have thought of it herself and just gotten distracted "You'd think you'd appreciate that a little more" It wasn't like her mother got many other visitors - well other then her father of course.
Spinning about Ruin was about to leave when she remembered something - well her mother hadn't exactly been the nicest during the visit but Ruin still thought it was important to take care of her and try to make thing better for her. Best get rid of those birds then, might make her a bit more cheerful and turning around she made sure to trample all the birds growing on the ground until she was quite sure they wouldn't grow back. Ugly a** things with their bright colors and awful smells. "Well you haven't been very nice" She told her mother when she was finished "But I think that should cheer you up some and perhaps we can have a better visit next time dad!" She told her in a chipper voice before trotting out of the grove in search of Rowan.

Regret was a bit sad to see the flowers trampled by her daughter - but she was happy to see her leave and decided it best just to let her go. To try and set the record straight would just extend the conversation and the flowers would grow back eventually. Besides she reminded herself sternly he wasn't about to care about such things. She didn't she told herself. Really.
And just to make sure Ruin wouldn't come and torment her anymore today Regret shambled out of the grove and headed off towards the farthest reaches of the herds territory, hopefully if she went way out there Ruin wouldn't be able to find her again.

Trotting across the western border of the herds territory Rowan was busy yet again. He always found it somewhat amusing how busy being a beta was considering how horribly inactive most of the herd was. And yet he was grateful to be given all of these duties, it kept him busy and more importantly kept him from becoming another useless horse in this herd.
Coming to a stop on a small rise Rowan surveyed the land. It had been some time since he had spotted any outsiders approaching their borders and chances were today would be no different. It was clear that word of their herds presence had spread and even the areas beyond the border were void of horses. This was somewhat disappointing as Rowan was itching for action. Soon, he told himself, soon.

It hadn't been all that long since she had left her fathers presence, she was sure she had been cheered up somewhat by her destruction of the annoying bids - who wouldn't be and next time they saw one another it would be a much nicer separation. Normies...they were so hard to get along with. Thankfully she was off to find Rowan now and he was dead like her, it would be a much more pleasant confrontation. She just had to loose him first.
Thankfully he could typically be found doing the same things everyday and Ruin didn't think she'd have to much trouble. Trotting along towards the herds boarder she found her thoughts to be right, straight ahead of her on the rise stood Rowan, he hadn't seen her yet bein too busy staring out over the land in case some known horse came along. Ruin wasn't sure what type of horse would do that - a stupid one probably given her fathers fearsome reputation.
In any case she had now drawn close enough to make herself known and called out to him "Hey you!" She shouted to the mare.

Rowan's gaze caught site of the little filly approaching not long before she called out to him. Turning he walked over to meet her half way. "Ruin." He said in a greeting. Rowan wondered why the filly was out here instead of with the herd, but with the way she spoke and thought it wouldn't surprise him if she thought he was the herd and the others didn't exist or something crazy like that. "What can I do for you?"

Now see that was the way horses ought to greet her Ruin thought to herself as Rowan spoke - straight to business and willing to help. That was probably why Rowan was beta, which she surmised could be a problem since sh wished to take his job. Well he'd be young by the time she grew enough to do so and the herd could just have two if need be. Yes that would work.
"I've been with father and she told me you might know where mother is I wish to tell him my future plans" She told the pale colored stallion in a serious voice to let him know this wasn't some foals lark - she meant business! And he'd better tell her or she'd show him a thing or two. She wasn't Thano's daughter for no reason after all.

Rowan quickly reconstructed Ruins statement in his mind to make it less confusing before he answered her. He knew how upset the filly got when someone corrected her mistakes or didn't understand what she was saying so he did his best to always figure out what she truly meant before saying anything. So she wanted to know where Thanos was to tell him some plans she had. Well that was simple enough.
"Your father is off checking the lands outside of our northern border, though he should be returning soon enough." His neck stretched out in another futile attempt to loosen his ropes - he seemed to do it without even thinking about it any more. "Would you mind telling me what your plans are?" As Beta he had an interest in all the members of the herds plans, whether they were to simply waste their new lives by eating grass all day long or to do something more worth while for the herd.

Ugh...well that was not the answer she had been hoping for. But if her father was off checking this land he must have a good reason and she would just have to wait. Patience she guessed was something she would need to acquire if she wanted to become beta.
She furrowed her brow slightly at Rowan, she wasn't one to sugarcoat things and he would find out sooner or later so she didn't see any good in telling him. "I am going to take your job" she told him bluntly. "But I'm sure mother will let you keep your position regardless I don't see any trouble with having less then one beta, and of course I am far to old to take on the responsibilities right now" She continued in an airy tone because surely there would be no question about her being given the title someday.

Rowan almost let a smile cross his maw - almost. Some days the fillies bluntness was quite funny and this moment was no exception. So she wished to take his spot as Beta but thought she was too old - err young for the job right now. Knowing the way that Ruin thought and acted Rowan knew exactly what to say to this. Tail flicked for a moment as he pretended to mull over her words though he was just stalling.
"Take my job huh?" He began with a quirk of his brow to make his question have that much more meaning behind it. "Well, I'm sure you would make an excellent Beta. After all who better to be your fathers second in command than one of his daughters. Especially one who has the potential that you do." This would surely get her excited about her so called future plans. "But you are right, you are far too young to take on all those duties now. That doesn't mean you can't start learning the ways though."

Ruin stood with the serious look on her half face as she waited for Rowans reaction to her statement - but of course his reaction was just as she expected. Of all the herd members Rowan was by far the most composed and sensible. "I'm glad that your taking this so badly" She told him with a slight nod of her head, mother would be so angry to hear she'd already handled this part of things and he wouldn't have to bother telling the stallion that ruin was a beta when the time came. This was going to be easier then she thought.
His praise for her potential was not lost on her either - at least someone saw it she thought to herself with a flicker of irritation at the memory of Regrets dismissal earlier. "Very well, are you going to finish showing me the duties of being a beta then?" She asked him. Well it was rather exciting to think about spending some more time with Rowan now that she thought about it. Ruin prefered to spend her time with useful creatures after all.

Stifling a chuckle Rowan looked upon the filly with amusement. Well at least he made her happy by telling her he would gladly give up his position for her and train her - not that his position was in jeopardy anyways. Thanos knew that Rowan was a good Beta and wouldn't hand that title away, even if it was to his own daughter. He had to give Ruin credit for being so set in her ways already. Perhaps she did have a lot of potential - once you got past the jumbled thoughts and speech that was.
"Of course I will show you your future duties. Don't you think it would impress your father greatly if you already knew how to preform those duties when you take over my job?" Rowan paused for a moment studying the filly before him. "Tell me Ruin what do you think the most important job of a Beta is?"

Ruin had to admit that seemed like a pretty good idea, if she learned now then sh would be ready to step into her future job on a moments notice and the herd wouldn't suffer for lack of a bad beta. Even if something happened to Rowan, which she was surprised to find he didn't want to happen. "Of course it won't" She told him in agreement "That was exactly what I was thinking when I approached you obviously" she concluded before pondering his question.
Well that could be allot of things - perhaps it was patrolling the boarders as Rowan was currently doing or scouting the lands outside like her father - but what the herd needed mos as far as she could tell was a good kick in the teeth. "Well thats quite obvious" she told him after only a few moments "Whipping all these lazy no account good for everything horses into shape!" She told him. Ruin was pretty convinced that this was the right answer her parents were always complaining about it.

Rowan let a smile cross his maw, not because Ruin was right about that very important duty but more of the way she said it. "That is a very important job and one that has eluded even your father so far. He has tried for many months to get them moving but as I'm sure you can see, it hasn't worked."
He looked at her critically for a few moments hoping it would encourage her more with what he was about to say. "But perhaps him and I have been going about it all wrong. Maybe what we need is someone who can look at the situation from a new angle and see something that perhaps we have missed." Lifting his head he looked around for a few moments, letting his gaze fall off into the distance before letting out a sigh - which was quite fake of course, but he made it see very real. "If only there was someone who could do this. Someone who had great potential to go places in this herd. Someone like..." He trailed off as if caught in his thoughts of thinking of who could fill this role, but was really just letting the suspense get to her.

Ruin knew she had been right - there really wasn't any question in her mind about it and when she saw Rowans reaction she was further convinced. "Obviously" she told him as he commented about their methods not working. I mean the herd according to her fathers complaints was in the same state it had been in since the herd had crossed over. Sure she hadn't been here for that but she'd heard about it enough times that she might as well have been.
"No no" She told him while bobbing her head a contradictory yes. "There isn't someone like that, exactly like that!" She told him after a few moments.."Theres me!"

Eyes widened and his head snapped down to look at the filly. Face scrunched up as he inspected her carefully - or at least made it look like he was. "Well..." He said as he circled around her once getting a full look at her before coming to a stop in front of her again. "Yes, I do believe you would be perfect for the job." Turning he began to walk off in the direction that he knew the herd to be but glanced over his shoulder at her. "Come on then, the sooner we get over there the sooner you can whip those lazy buggers into shape."
