Mel shook his head. "The rumors aren't important. I've been the same. At least the alone part is the same, I don't think I have anyone trying to kill me. If I do, well they have the upper hand because I'm oblivious to it." He tried to smile a little for her sake. "Kahili is...Fine. I think. I don't see much of her either these days. She's off doing what her young heart desires. Which leaves me and myself to wander these lands."
His smiled turned morphed into one with more sadness in it. She may enjoy being alone but he hated it. It was his curse that he had to live with until he could find a way to get rid of it.

Neva patted the ground with her wing. "Come and lay down for now. Craning my neck to see you is doing no good for me. And I promise I won't eat you." Her neck really was hurting but for now, the shadow that controlled her laid dormant.
"Mm I have had children. Though, I do not even know who they are. Their father is out to kill me. Don't blame him really." She looked at Mel and shook her head. "Why are you still here? Shouldn't you be running in fear?"

Mel walked back the few steps and settled himself beside her. "I have my reasons for not running but I'm here to talk, how many times do I have to say that? As soon as you're done talking, I'll leave. I didn't know you had children though. Why don't you know them? Were they taken or something?" He couldn't imagine if Kahili was taken from him. Sure his other daughter disappeared but he'd never gotten to know her like he had with Kahili. "I would ask why the father is trying to kill you but I suspect you don't really want to talk about it." Plus he didn't know how far he could dig before she snapped at him.

Neva stayed silent a bit, thinking about the baskets she abandoned to her parents in hope that they would destroy the family. "No. They were not taken. All three of them I left with their grandparents." She knew that none of them would want to see her, though she might try killing them if they ever found her and figured out who she was.
Megapi. Their father. Mmm that had been fun trying to trick him. A smirk appeared on her face as she thought about the work it took to get what she wanted. "Perhaps some day I'll tell you. But for now I would rather not explain." She looked at Mel and just watched him, wondering why he did not run like so many others did

Mel assumed there was a reason behind her leaving her children with her parents just as there was probably a reason she didn't want to talk about the foals' father. So many secrets, so many lies. What was truth and what was fiction? Was she truly the monster he'd heard about? Or just a mare who'd lost her way? This was bad, he was getting too involved and the more involved he became, the more he would try to help her and change her back.
Why not just jump right in and see what happened? "What were you dreaming about?" Would she remember? If she did, would she tell the truth? If she didn't tell him what he knew had happened, he would leave and drop everything. If she could only remember him truly as a friend in her dreams then there was no point in trying anymore.

Dreaming? The water, and he was in it too. Neva closed her eyes and turned her head slightly away. Discussing dreams, especially her own was not something she did. "You were in it. Mostly darkness, but then we were at the stream where we had met when we were little." She said quietly, struggling with trying to remember the dream that had been quickly fading away.
Why was she not lashing out at him? What was it about him that kept her calm for the most part? It made her head hurt trying to understand this.

The stream where they had met as foals. He remembered that all too well. Splashing through the running water, chasing fish. Just being normal playful kids who had wandered away from home for a day. Mel kept his voice low and quiet and tried to coax more out of her. "You spoke with me. To me in the dream but you spoke out loud too. I heard everything you said. I was the only thing keeping you here, that you don't want to hurt me. I miss you too, Nev. And I meant it about wanting to help but you seemed set that I couldn't do anything other than just be here to exist. I feel so powerless. You're sure there's nothing? Nothing at all I can do? Help me help you. What if you ran away and just started over. Got away from all the ones that want to torment and corrupt you." He had to stop himself now and sighed softly. He was pushing it again when he said he wasn't going to do that. "Sorry. I only want you to be happy is why I care so much."
