Vintage, eh? PLENTY of those, I can tell ya that. Lets see what I can dig up:
- Marble Madness. Even after all these years, I still get the the last level but can never beat it.
- Bubble Bobble, in general. The whole game kicked my a** all over the place, and I was only able to beat it with a friend. Amazingly, we both made it all the way to the final boss. Thats all 100 levels plus that crazy-a** boss.
- Greased Lightning Round in Gradius 3 on the SNES. Grab speed ups and pray to your god.
- Double Dragon and the fact that the game thought it was a platformer. IT WASN'T. Jumping on platforms in that game was a horrid experience, and you were almost sure to lose a life. Pile that on top of an already hard game (where hitting someone meant that they could punch you while you were already punching them) and you can tell I never got through that S.O.B.
Wow, I think I could keep going and going, so I'll leave it there for now.

I agree with your list, but I'm quoting the ones I can relate best too.
Marble Madness is so terrible that as a child I used a freakin' game genie with infinite clock and still could not beat that freaking last level.
Bubble Bobble still kicks my a**. It seems all sweet an innocent, but that game gets seriously intense and is IMPOSSSIBLE to beat on your own.
Gradius 3 is terrible. I love the gradius series and I've played most of them and beaten several. But 3 is an especially cruel one.
I completely agree with your assessment of double dragon. I hated trying to gauge jumping over or off things. Because it was so off. I used to play it religiously when I was younger, I can't rember if I beat it or nto though. Now when I try to play it I'm lucky if I can see level 3.
