I don't really invest in things unless I can use them for the avatar I'm immediately working on, and then I build from there. This BlkWhtGld wasn't nearly as intricate as when I had the first pieces of it. Thus, I'm not especially opinionated for the "most/least useful item" because I use most of the same build as I go along. At most I can say that I don't use items from previous avatar that have fallen out of taste, and even then I use a lot of Gold Shop items so they're not so expensive; the price tag comes from trial and error, really, then keeping the leftovers for future reference. So since I don't really have the money to expend on EIs or RIG rewards, the costly equippables come from MCs. Right now, my underused items are: Furugasa(which doesn't really count since I kind of inherited it); Classilke; Let it Snow; Oculus Mythica; Smok the Baby Dragon; Lunar Scythe; Masterpieces; Luck of the Gairish; Spring Nymph; Summoning Tome; and Order of Atlantis. I also own a Reve Rouille I want to use for the Spurs pose when it finally evolves to that point.

sdrawkcab Gro-gain: It's just disappointing. I thought the item would give us at least three good wigs. Instead, I got unsightly male boy hair. It just doesn't fit my style, but I won't sell it since I use the furry body hair as shading sometimes.
QFT! Grogain was the most disappointing thing I ever bought. I had hoped it would be for hair like the masquerade turned out to be for faces. It just makes me sad. My fav. inexpensive items (aka, the stuff I think is most useful for cheap): Card Shark Bands. ok, this is a ticket item but still it's not that expensive and soooo frikken useful. Those 90's gloves. For something I got from Daily Chance, man have I used it Genie Headpieces. Tennis Headbands.I use these all the time for a hint of something on the forehead Wool Tops. I flipped when they came out with new colors for these. They rock my socks. Audrey heels For common shoes the colors on these rock and they let socks show through Tavern Wenches cinchers hey layer over almost everything! G-Lol Dark Mistress Skirt Layers under a lot of things for a hint of black. reversible bracelets So cheap. So useful. The Genie Bangle Bracelets/Armlets and the Egyptian Anklets/Bracelets/Armlets are also really useful. Peasant Gloves are short and layer over more things that I was expecting. As for expensive things I use very frequently (aka worth the gold) I would say: Horns of the Demon. Seriously, best 2 mil gold I ever spent. Demonic Anklets. Really, disgustingly useful. Acteaon's Blessing. For the cheapest of the blessings the gold and grey eyes are really handy. Ancient Katana the poses are the best of any sword on Gaia and the backposes are really useful. Another thing I'm not sad I dropped the gold on. If you like gold, I also suggest: Noel's Gift and Biancamella. They end up being consistently useful for me, usually for the small poses.

Wool Tops are definitely useful. I use to use them a lot more before though when I didn't have as much stuff in my wardrobe.
I'm surprised that you listed Katana, though. If it was something I owned I think I would be disappointed with it. The fact that I've never felt the urge to buy one probably explains why. I just wouldn't use it. I've only ever had a couple outfits with swords and in those instances Katana was not the sword I wanted. I wanted Frostbite Blade for one as it was a icy avatar and I wanted the Piratey-looking saber from the Lotus for the other. When do you use the Katana? Do you often make avatars that need a sword?

@ .@ I used to use the katana allll the time. It was my most useful way to add white to the feet. The only way to add white to the feet used to be by adding shoes or socks. We were all SOL when it came to handhelds, companions, legwarmers, little things that sit by the feet... The only way I could add white to the feet using handhelds was with my magician's wand (little bit of white), pandy pack (covered too much of the avatar, kiki kitty (added pink ears and blue eyes), or my ancient katana. The katana was slim and added white where I needed it. (I always held it in tektek hand 2, the closer hand.) The thing that always bothered me about the katana is that it has a thin strip of gold. x .x This meant that the outfits I used it with were usually white, black and gold. It was hard to add gold to the feet so I'd end up adding winged anklets. I'd have to add other angelic items to match them... Hmm~ I think I started using the katana more after the egyptian anklets were released. Sooo... I think my memories are tainted. I didn't use the katana as far back in time as I think I did. I still used to use it a lot though.
Oh yeah, I should add that I never cared about theme. My avatars were matching avatars, not theme avatars. So I didn't care about the style/theme of the katana. All I cared about was that it added white to the bottom half of my avatar. :} If I ever made a theme that needed a sword (usually pirate), I used my sword of aegis instead.

I use the katana for three poses: 1. The slanted backpose. I think it looks elegant, it's a nice way to add black to the back without going the wing or cape route. Yes, I do think it looks more balanced with 2. 2. The down in-the-hand pose to add white to the feet like Cabbi noted. 3. The 3rd pose (Lifted left hand) crosses the katana across the body - a pose that no other sword on Gaia has and it is very useful for breaking up color on the torso. I really resisted getting my first katana because I thought "it's a sword... it's that item all the anime-swordsmen-wannabes want." But I find I use swords more regularly than any other handheld object and the katana is the most useful of the swords I own. I'll equip it even without intending to make an avatar around the katana. examples? Built around the lightening lash/Nightmare coat, but still uses two katana Just added for some extra white at the feet And this was built around the CN Scarf/Prince of Thieves. Again with the black at the back. Obviously it's not an accessory for everyone - and for some it just reads as 'that expensive sword that n00bs want' but I like the poses it has. Most other swords are far more bulky and difficult to use.

Hey, I still want that Katana. Just as a very low priority since it's so pricy. It may be a status item, but it's a usable status item. I put it down with the Chain Wallet for the same reason.

I know a lot of wallet owners say it's incredibly useful for just a bit of black. It might be a status item, but I think the wallet is pretty tame compared to most - it doesn't scream out 'look at me!!'
Lovely avi btw, BLKnWHT! biggrin

I love the back poses of the katana too. :3 They're very useful for balance and color.
Wowzers, I knew the item was expensive and good for cosplays. I didn't know it reached the level of such a show off item that n00bs dream of it. Is it almost up to the popularity of the ninja band? (Not in price, but at that level of fawning over it. I know it would be much more expensive if it were at that level, but is it almost?)
I love the chain wallet. <3 It just seems like a perfect item. It's like~ understated elegance. XD Those are the kinds of MCs I like. Too bad most of these newer MCs are full of crazy, colorful, huge poses that aren't as versatile. u .u I borrowed a chain wallet once. I'd lived too long without one. I just... couldn't use it. I have my own tricks for adding black to the middle and didn't do a good job of using the chain wallet. I swore that all my outfits just looked like I tacked it on to show off. (Not that I'd made a nice outfit that just happened to use it.)

I've never been enamored with the chain wallet or one-pose MCs in general. Which is not to say that Multi-pose are necessarily better (some of them don't have a single good pose) but I find it hard to justify spending that much on a MC to use a bit of black about the middle when there are many other items I could use instead.

I'm thinking the Orinkage replaced the Ninja Headband as the "OMG, Naruto, I must have!" item for N00bs.
The headband is ridiculously expensive nowadays. Most people who I see wearing it use it for the tilted pose which doesn't really read as Naruto for me. For some reason that pose reads as "oldbie or rich exchanger"

I've honestly never had any want for a katana, headband etc etc.
I wanted the wallet for about 3 seconds before I realised how much it was. Very expensive for something that doesn't do much... If I was around when it came out, maybe I'd still have it. Maybe not biggrin
The red thingy scarf is pretty, but too... try-hard[?] for me. Everyone seems to want one of those.

Jace, when did you join? That's the kind of statement I only hear from people who joined after Gaia got multi-pose MCs. And not just two poses, but at least around five poses. I don't blame you at all. I wouldn't pay that much for a single pose either. I like to get the most I can for the gold/cash I spend. If a pose is amazing and a must-have, I might give in... sort of... but I really can't justify spending an outrageous amount for something that I can live without. On the other hand, I saw the chain wallet back in the days when it was a necessary gem. It was like~ perfect. It was already expensive. And I don't remember its price. All I remember was that I thought it was way too much for a little wallet. It was a perfect accessory though. I was jealous of anyone who owned one.
@ The headband; That's funny. XD I guess the orinkage would be the next fad, if it's a slightly more affordable item. x .x; Well, I guess anything would be a fad if its Naruto-related. I disliked the ninja band when it first came out. Back then, I was only into angelic MCs. I was poor so I'd save up until an angelic MC was released. I'd buy it. Then I'd save up until the next angelic MC was released. So, yeah~ by the time I got out of my angelic phase, it was too late. The ninja band was on my list of things to quest, but I had other things above it. And then Naruto was released on Cartoon Network. Poof. There went any chance of me affording the ninja band. I like it for its simplicity. Too bad Naruto is too popular for the ninja band to just be a simple item.
Hmmm~ There's a good point to what Stasha said~ She listed the katana, ninja band, chain wallet and CN scarf. Yes, those items are coveted because 3 are ninja and 1 is just old. XD But they're also simple items. It doesn't hurt that they're all black, white and red. That's a popular color scheme. If I'd joined after the CN scarf and katana were expensive, I wouldn't want them either. That CN scarf used to be one of my best red items though. @ .@ I wore it all the time just for the color, not for any ninja attachments. I love multi-pose MCs. And I wouldn't pay 250c for an MC that had only one pose. But I wish that the newer MCs could be simple again. I want multi-pose MCs with lots of simple poses. The artists were doing pretty well and gave us pretty simple MCs. The April 2010 MCs are nowhere near simple though. x ----x
My bro quit Gaia in early 06. Even though he quit, I made him buy the CN scarf, dark halo, katana and demonic anklets as they came out. (Just in case he ever decided to return to Gaia.) I figured they'd be the good investments. He gave the dark halo to a friend because that friend said that he owed him an MC. He still has the other items. They were pretty good investments. ....Though I really thought the demonic anklets would be worth much more right now.

Here's proof that I used to use the CN scarf all the time. @ . @ I didn't wear only red/wht/black. It just looks that way. u .u I guess that most of the outfits I wore with the CN scarf were red/white/black. I spent most of my time wearing gold, pink or angelic blue though. <.< >.> In regards to this thread, I think the CN scarf used to be a very useful item. Now that we have many more red items to work with, it's not as needed.
I always think of starter items as new. It's when I see images like this that I realize how old they are. I love starter items. <3

Starter items still remain useful - and those snug balloon skirts? I still use them.
I also still love the CN scarf. I can't help it. To me it's one of the ultimate red items so I still use it frequently. The new red items just compliment it. But I'm also a fan of old MCs. (and I remember questing so darn hard for that thing....)
Also, agreed - if I was a newer user I wouldn't advise or go questing for a CN scarf or any of the other extremely expensive MCs. They're not really worth it because on their own they look rather foolish. Unfortunately many of the really good red items are also expensive. If I was going for a good, useable item for newer users I would go for some of the EIs or a whole lot of basic gold shop items. Some of the RIG items or Zomg items have multiple poses and are both affordable and useful as well.
However once you have a solid base of items I find buying older things a challenge. I'm always looking for something I'll 'wear often' - which some of the old single pose things are things you can wear with most anything. That is, to me, why they are desirable.

I joined at the beginning of august in 2007, Cabbi. So yeah, after the advent of multi-pose MCs. I spent most of my first year on Gaia being rather poor as this was prior to booty grab or zOMG or anything easy like that. And then when I finally started earning gold. Well, now I'm worth more than 110M and I guess I could buy whatever if I really wanted to. But aside from commons I don't often buy new things unless I can make an avatar with them.
