Z'ai walked into the hatching feast with a sense of dread, already wishing himself and his dragon back in their weyr, away from the crowd. So many people were crammed into this space that even the scent of fresh meats and baked things wasn't enough of an incitement to make him happy.

Brath walked almost on his heels, peering this way and that, as if looking for someone. Was His looking for one of his clutchmates?

Brath, who are you looking for? he questioned, stopping and peering around without really seeing anything. His hand rested lightly on his dragon's smooth head, fingers playing with the little head knobs.

So many emotions roiled around inside him, and he glanced down just as his dragon glanced up, and whiskey colored eyes met whirling blue.

"I don't know, Mine. I just know that there is two someones we should meet," Brath said with a draconic grin, his eyes whirling faster.

After taking the time to retreat to her barracks and change back into more casual clothes Weyard had felt her emotions dim and settle. Sure, she was disappointed, but things could be worse. No one had been mauled, no dragons had betweened, no duds, all impressed. Not even any very bad tempers had been displayed. The gold was good, and though there had been no bronzes the clutch was a success. High Reaches prospered. Even if she herself was dragonless, she could celebrate knowing that the Weyr had been improved.

In her own good time she'd gone down to the feast, eager to congratulate those now-weyrlings she'd know pre-hatching and get a better look at the dragonets. And to eat of course! Food was something she always loved, regardless of mood. Cooking it, eating it...especially eating it, and tonight all the stops had been brought out. Mmm, she was going to get SO fat, just for the night.

After entering and making a few preliminary waves and nods to the few who'd greeted her, she set about filling a huge plate with all sorts of delectables. Roasted meats, brazed and stuffed; breads with sauces and mashed roots; sweets and all sorts of things, all found their way to her plate, along with a mug of sweetened juice mixed with some spices. Mmm. Just perfect. She thunked the plate down at one table and reclined on the bench backwards, facing out towards the crowds, not the long wooden slab. Over the rim of her cup she spied a boy who, like her, had not impressed. He looked, frankly, distraught. Swallowing, she tipped the cup at him. "Hey! Come on over here...no reason to look so down. The feast's for those who impressed, sure, but it'd be a bit lacking if it was just them here...candidates are welcome, as are the rest!" She tilted her head to the open seat beside her, offering it to him.

Despite himself, his mouth begins to water as a good strong scent comes wafting his way. It was only his first hatching after all. I bet lots don't Impress the first time. It's not like this is my last hatching. Feeling slightly more cheerful Julian looks around for the food tables. First, food then I'll find Soril.... no S'ril and congratulate him.

Just about to move from his position, a voice calls out. Startled Julian looks around and spots a girl sitting backwards to a table. Was she talking to me? He points a finger at himself and looks curiously at the girl, asking if she meant him.

Then we will go and find the others, Kanaleth announced, glancing up as Aceth's rider greeted Hers. The golden dragon paused then, a flash of indecision clouding her blue eyes. That is, if you would like to, she amended, unwilling to drag the chipper green along if she would prefer to stay with Hers. They had just found their riders, after all, and Kanaleth could understand completely if Aceth would prefer his company for the time being. She, on the other hand, was completely confident Andere was alright left in the hands of A'jel and S'ril, and did not mind setting out on her own to meet the others.

Her quandary was solved rather quickly, however, when a spotted dragon bounded over and greeted both Queen and green with a playful n**. Kanaleth snorted, her wings flaring out the side as she took a step back and raised her head, peering curiously at the bouncy green. Hello, Perditith, she greeted her clutchmate, bobbing her head. Aceth and I were going to find out other clutchmates.

Andere, meanwhile, folded her arms over her chest having greeted both riders, nodding enthusiastically with S'ril's observation. "Yes, Kanaleth wants to make sure we meet all the other dragons from the clutch before anything else is done. However, I am absolutely starving! Would either of you care to-" And once again, the goldrider was interrupted, another greenrider joining their small gathering.

"Lauretia? A pleasure. I'm Andere, my dragon is Kanaleth." She offered her hand. "This is S'ril," the seacrafter continued, motioning to the other greenrider. "And this is A'jel." She motioned to the other dragonrider. "I was hoping someone else here was as hungry as I am."

And there, for a moment, the brown rider thought he had spotted the one he had been looking for! Now, how to best excuse himself...

"If you'd like," A'jel began to Andere, "I can be right back with you a plate. I admit, I must be off to find someone, but it would be of little trouble. I'm afraid though I know not what foods you'd prefer," Still it was kind to offer all the same, right?
Such was a great effort on A'jel's part. In most social situations he seemed to fall on his face. For the most part though A'jel thought things were going rather well. Being so far out of his element, his perceived arrogance was cast aside, and he was merely trying his best to appear polite.

Oh, good, the boy'd seen her. She nodded emphatically as he pointed to himself and took another swig from her mug. Again she patted the bench, hooking one knee over the other to look totally at ease on the bench, leaning just so back against the table. Reaching over her shoulder, she speared a shank of some food or other with her knife and set to work on it. Mmm, wherry. Maybe one of those very ones she'd beheaded just days earlier. It was cooked to perfection, as was to be expected for a hatching feast.

"C'mon then, don't look so down around the mouth! No reason to drag yourself around like a wherry with a bum wing, hmm? Grab some of that pie, it looks just fine, and come join the party!" She flagged the fellow down again. Just because she didn't know him didn't mean she didn't want to be nice. He was likely a holder of some sort...all the more reason to make him feel at home.

S'ril smiled and offered his hand to the newly introduced Lala, "A pleasure," he said. Aceth had stopped conversing with Kanaleth through him, though it seemed as though something was going on as the energetic green bounded up by them. "I've eaten already, though Aceth didn't give me a chance to eat dessert."

Aceth was preoccupied by her clutchmates, though she certainly didn't miss the comment and gave Hers a mental bump. S'ril was reassured that she was still paying attention to him. Of course I am. We are together. I am always paying attention. She spared him a look, which he knew to be of adoration, and she returned her gaze to Kanaleth. I figured you would be bored by us. But I don't mind, if you want to listen.

I would love to meet our clutchmates, she responded cheerfully to Kanaleth after she had greeted Perditith. I trust Mine that he will be all right, though it is up to him. She turned her gaze upward again, having let him hear her response, and he nodded. I will come! she responded more energetically than before, her eyes whirling faster as she brought her attention back to the other dragonets.

At the mention of pie, Julian's head comes up and he grins. He gives a give wave to the girl. "K, be right over!" A beeline for the food table later and he has his plate full with various sweets, including the afore mentioned pie. The Weyr really knew how to celebrate! There was never this much selection back home.

Cautiously Julian makes his way back over to the girl. He didn't want so tople his desserts or klah. Setting them down with a relieved sigh and taking his own seat before turning to the girl with a smile. "Hey, I'm Julian. You were on the hatching sands weren't you?"

"Brath!" he called aloud as his dragon darted off between a group of people, heading for a man Z'ai did not know. Facepalming, the long-legged beasthealer turned rider followed, politely but quietly excusing himself as he passed between this group and that group.

"Already causing trouble, I see," he mumbled upon finding Brath sitting, tail almost wagging, before a blond haired young man who seemed to be trying to excuse himself from Andere's presence. Resting his hand on his brown's head, he gave a shy smile and wondered if he should wait for the two to finish conversing, or if he should just use the distraction as an opportunity to bail.

"Where is Yours, friend of Mine?" the little brown questioned the blonde man, his eyes whirling brightly in innocence even as Z'ai face-palmed again.

"Brath, hush, I don't even know him," he said in a fierce whisper, realizing that, even though he was blessed to have such an amazing being a part of his life, it was going to get verrrrry interesting.

Well. A'jel thought to himself looking down t the young brown, This is convenient! Certainly saved him some trouble...

A'jel kneeled down to the young brown's level to speak to him, "Vogieth is outside with the others too big too fit in here. He tells me that he is excited to meet you." He gave Brath a small smile before standing back up, and looking to Z'ai.
"It's no problem. Vogieth has been all but pleading that I find the two of you." There was an amused expression on his face as he mentioned his dragon's excitement and eagerness.

Tickling Brath's chin, Z'ai offered his hand to the other man, his reluctance hidden behind a smile. After all, he'd been taught to be polite above all things, regardless of his anti-social tendencies.

"Name's Z'ai, and this little one is Brath."

Giving a draconic grin, Brath wrapped his tail around Z'ai's ankle, bobbing his head in a nod.

"I would very much like to meet His, Z'aiMine" the piabald brown said in mindvoice so filled with excitement, Z'ai had to grin.

Oh, dear. Look away for a moment, and A'jel was already absconded by another weyrling. Andere raised her eyebrows, brushing her dull red bangs away from her face as she observed the unfolding scene. A brown dragonet was all but sitting on top of A'jel's feet, wagging his tail. Whatever was going on, the hatchling seemed to be in charge of the situation and the goldrider wasn't entirely sure if it was her place to interrupt. For all she new, the dragonrider and weyrling may have been friends.

Shrugging, Andere turned back to S'ril, inclining her head with a slight smile. "Well, since our companion has been kidnapped by a very enthusiastic hatchling, I suppose it is up to us to find something to eat." The seacrafter paused for a moment, shifting her position as she seemed to consider something. "If you would like to join me, that is. I understand if you've already had your fill."

You realize, Anderemine, you are not going to make friends like that.

Blue eyes twinkling, the gold fixed her attention back onto the darker green dragon, crooning happily when Aceth announced she would be more than happy to join the Queen's quest. Excellent! she replied, spreading her wings only to fold them again. Kanaleth turned, mindless of her tail as she brushed against the gathering riders. I believe we should start with our brother there, don't you? the Queen asked, shifting her gaze to Brath. Kanaleth shuffled, bumping into Aceth amiably. He is right there, after all.

Without so much as a word to Andere otherwise, the small gold dragon began a steady advance toward the piebald brown, her tail swinging side to side. Brath! she called. Come and join us!

"A'jel" He introduced himself, shaking Z'ai's hand. "Congratulations on impressing. My own dragon, Vogieth has been harping me non stop to ask if you would not mind is he and Branth have a play date of sorts" A'jel shook his head again, amused grin still there, "For being a full grown dragon he still acts like a young dragonet."

But mine, you would be swallowed in a world of seriousness if not for your Vogieth! The brown exclaimed to his rider upon catching his thoughts. His sure seemed to play it off as if he was annoying! Vogieth knew better though!

Mmmmmmkay, now, what much more was there to say? A'jel tried not to fidget.

S'ril nodded, "I'll join you, if only for something sweet to eat!" He didn't really have a sweet tooth - not really - but something sweet after all the savory, heavy foods of the meal somed more appetizing. And besides, he wasn't just going to abandon the newly Impressed Queen rider.

Aceth followed after Kanaleth, slipping between people easily with her much smaller size compared to her companion. Yes, yes, come join us~! Aceth chimed in from behind as she approached the brown moments later. If a dragon could grin wildly, she would be doing so right now out of sheer excitement of greeting her clutchmates.

"A...play date?" Z'ai asked with a surprised blink. Brath nearly jumped into his arms in excitement, his eyes whirling faster. "Um, sure," the new rider said, catching his dragon as Brath literally began climbing up his body.

"Yes, Mine. Please oh please?! Your Brath wants to meet Vogieth, and you could use some socialization." The mottled brown nodded, grinning at A'jel before looking up at His.

Z'ai met his dragon's eyes, his whiskey colored gaze questioning. Brath had seemed just like a hatchling should to him, somewhat childish and innocent. But that statement proved that even newly hatched, Brath was a very intelligent being.

Slowly, he lifted his gaze to meet A'jel's eyes. "Alright, a play date it is. When and where? I'm sure I won't have much free time starting tomorrow, but I have a feeling Brath will make sure I make time for this," he said with a friendly grin.
