"Definitely," enthused Tallulah, and dotted neatly at her mouth with a paper napkin. She smiled a slightly coffee-colored smile at Peyton and said, "I've got to start showing him around more or people are gonna doubt me when I say he exists."
Leaning back casually in her chair, she folded her arms across her chest and looked bemusedly at Peyton. "So I have to move fast, but you can take a leisurely stroll towards romantic bliss?" Gosh, Tallulah's mind hadn't strayed in the direction Peyton was pushing it towards - she'd made conscious efforts not to fantasize about what might happen a few years down the line, when at any time things could changed completely.
"It'll happen," she smiled. "I mean, I met him at the animal shelter, so broaden your horizons a bit?"
It was cliche encouragement, and she knew it was. She raised her coffee cup to her lips and tilted her head back, coaxing the last few drops out - if they were going to charge three dollars for a cup of coffee then you'd might as well drink all of it.
"My mom's probably about ready to leave," she said, frowning slightly.

Definitely!? She was actually willingly letting them meet! Eeeeek, this was so exciting! Peyton was practically trembling with the excitement, releasing the pent up energy by tapping her fingers on the table in a merry little tune. Her cheeks flushed pink once more as romance was brought back into the conversation, Peyton's tapping slowing, but not stopping.
"It's not a choice I'm making willingly, Cowden," she replied, the corners of her lips just quirked upwards in a small, almost knowing smile, "If I could I'd be getting there as fast as I could, just like you and your boy." Had she gotten a name? She couldn't remember even if she had. Animal shelter? Peyton's mouth formed a small 'o' shape, before her mouth stretched into a grin, "Really now? Well, I'll have to keep a lookout, see if I can spot any hotties..."
Ready to leave? Awww, not already! Peyton's expression dropped and the tapping stopped altogether, the teen sighing as she also coaxed the last dregs of her drink from the cup. "Sad times, hon. You're grounded too, so I won't even see you around...still got your phone?"

"I'm only grounded until the ninth," Tallulah emphasized, and pulled her purse into her lap. "And luckily my parents have never done the grounding thing before, so they missed things other people's parents might do-"
She dug through her purse, producing a tube of chapstick, a wad of tissues, and a coupon for a cupcake place at the mall before finding her phone. She passed it across the table to Peyton.
"Add your number to my contacts and I'll text you later?" she suggested as she brushed the other miscellany back into her bag.

The ninth? Oh, that wasn't too long then. Peyton smiled, nodding to show she understood, though the smile spread to that Peyton-grin once again at the mention of parents. Peyton wasn't a girl who liked to make a habit of getting punished, but she'd been grounded a number of times in her life, and so her parents had since come to learn most of her tricks. Most. She still had that spare phone hidden in her underwear drawer, for desperate measures.
Tallulah dug through her purse and finally found the phone, Peyton eagerly taking it and tapping in her number, fingers moving over the buttons like a pro, and what seemed like only seconds later she was handing it back to Tallulah, her contact details entered. "Be sure to add your name on, so I know its you," she reminded with a more genuine smile, reluctantly pushing her chair back as she stood, to hopefully show Tallulah's mother that they were moving and it wasn't necessary for her to come over to hurry them along. "I'll see you soon, then? Hopefully with a plus one, eh?"
She gave a not-so-subtle wink, another slight twitch of excitement rocking through her.

"I'll be sure to," agreed Tallulah, getting up as well. Nellie was already by the door, looking eager to return to the sale racks. Tallulah grimaced at her friend.
"I'll try to bring him by," she said hopefully, and gave Peyton a quick squeeze around the shoulders. "It was great to catch up with you! Really great!"
Nellie looked sort of impatient. Tallulah backed away towards the door, pantomiming far more pain than this was actually causing her. "I'll text!"

Peyton smiled, which spread to a grin at the tought of meeting Tallulah's boyfriend. Oh, she couldn't wait! The quick squeeze around the shoulders was turned into a full-out hug by Peyton, who waved after her friend as she left. "Gret catching up with you, too! I'll be waiting!"
She watched Tallulah leave with her mother down the highstreet, before fetching her bag and leaving herself. What an interesting day this had turned out to be.
