I know how you feel. I am on my second or third attempt with my story. Sometimes, the only thing you can do is start over.

Working on rewriting the first chapter to see if it's an improvement. Since I'm starting over anyway, I think I'm also going to rewrite the new first chapter in third person as well, so I can compare the two and see if there's a reason to switch. Got about 800 words done on the new chapter late last night, though I did save a bit from the old version.

But I'm hoping to pick up the pace now. I think I was getting stuck because there were big problems and I knew it but couldn't quite identify what those problems were. And once I was able to explain the problems, I was able to say: Yes, starting over is what I need to do here. My main character was too meek, the world needed to be pushed farther into weirdness, and the relationships between characters needed to be more complicated. And now it is also going to have a bit of a steampunk feel to it, I think, which I didn't quite expect.

When I had to start over, I found it was because a lot of my characters were not really developed, had too many contradictions, and some things simply did not have good explanations. My latest attempt is much better. It was simply easier to start over with the knowledge of what needed to be fixed than going back and changing everything.

Making slow progress on the restarted WIP. Would like to get at least 500 words done today, and I still have several hours left to work on things. I got a lot of planning done yesterday, though, and sometimes the day after I figure things out I need a slow day to let it sit in the back of my mind.

Actually, as I was typing this, I went back and poked at the chapter a bit more and hit 450 words. So 500 is definitely happening today, and hopefully more.

So, 4k into my YA novel, and making steady progress. Hit a bump yesterday when I couldn't quite tell if the plot I outlined before was going to work, but I talked it out with my husband and we figured something out I think.

It's still early, so there should be plenty of time to get my 500+ words done today. I'm at 122. Going slower because it's a new scene/chapter, but I'm pretty sure I have enough figured out to move forward.

I'm really hoping the book works out as well as I think it will. For now, my husband is reading as I go so he can be up to date and help solidify ideas and work through plot problems. And one of my friends is reading as well because she's an awesome cheerleader and harasses me to keep me on track. She usually doesn't comment much on larger issues, but she is great at catching missing words and little typos, even extra spaces.

Right now, I just want to focus on making steady progress and trying to keep busy. Next week might bring some big news, or it might bring some bad news. I need distraction. ninja

I hate when everything goes slow! It is very lucky your husband looks over your work, any (straight) guy would turn away from my work! I wish you luck!

Because it's M/M? Aw, I know straight guys who wouldn't have any issues reading it. And my husband has read my friend's yaoi fanfics before and isn't bothered by it in the least. XD We're trying to help her switch over to writing her own stories, since I think she's pretty good!

Yep, I hardly know anyone who would enjoy reading my stuff (in real life), online they love it haha. As for your friend, original fiction is the way forward and she could even be good enough to earn a few pennies biggrin Something I think everyone wants.

I haven't been able to get any writing done for a couple of days because I'm really anxious about a job interview I have today at 3. gonk

Hoping that once it's over, I can calm down and get useful stuff done again. I hate interviews.

I hope your job interview went okay!

I think both interviews went well, hard to say. I won't know anything else for 2 weeks.

Made good writing progress yesterday, but the scene is going to be longer than I expected. I introduced a new character, who I originally thought would be basically a background character, just something to add a bit of dialogue to the scene. But the more I wrote about her, the more I feel like she'll work well as a bigger part of the book. Still figuring out what part she'll play, but I think this could be a good step in adding some side plots if she becomes friends with the protagonist.

Just hoping she's interesting enough to warrant a delay in getting to the scene that's coming up.

I love having minor characters step up and add more to the plot. I had one character who was more or less there to exist. Then I realized I had a plot hole that required a new character...but the there-to-exist character managed to fill it nicely. She is now one of my better villains.

I would suggest you look and see if there are any roles your story needs that your new character may be able to serve.

I do think she'll be useful later, and it'll be more interesting for my MC to run into a character we've already seen during her adventures in the city's underground.

This last part was a bit tough to get through, but I think once I'm done with this chapter, everything will start picking up. I have a plot outline for the next few sections, hopefully that will help.

I'm not sure how long this book will end up being, but I'm aiming for 60-70k. At 9k I'm getting there, steadily. Right now I'm building up to a major event that will take place by the end of the first 1/3 of the book.

Trying to get a lot done today, since starting tomorrow I'll be taking some time to finish up revisions on another book so it can hopefully get sent out soon.

Working on revisions. Set a deadline of one week, so I need to have them done by Monday. Hoping to get them done a bit early, maybe by Friday or Saturday.

They aren't too tough, but there is one big scene near the end that needs work, and since it's a pretty important scene, I need to think it over some more.

I really don't want to write this next part of the scene. I have no idea how the dialogue will play out. Bah.

Gotta stop being lazy, though. If I stop letting myself read forums, I'm sure I'll get something done. xp
