Crash and ******** burn. Audrey's heart and stomach fell out through her toes and it was probably the most horrible feeling she'd ever had - akin almost to when the 'It's not you baby, it's me.' speech had come from Khaldun's mouth. Rejection was the most powerful force in the universe, no matter how gently it was done. Dimly, while trying to tuck that nasty little feeling into a compact box, she felt their joined hands go to his lips in a gentlemanly kiss.

Elzo was, apparently, gallant to the last.

Letting out her breath and trying to not let it shake, the teen flashed her very best (and most false) smile up at her dance instructor. "It's alright! I mean, I had a date before too. But then stuff happened and he decided he was an a*****e, so even though we're friends we kinda dropped it." Understatement. Audrey had decided not long ago that she would rather go naked to prom than with Khaldun, though she did still adore him ceaselessly. It just was debasing! "Just figured it was worth a shot, and I'm going to have to dance with you! I mean, so far, you're the only one that I've been able to dance with even a little! So you'll have to show me how and maybe I can find a few more partners, or another date or something." That last was not very likely.

God this was depressing. Almost wistfully she thought of the rather expensive gown hanging in her closet, wasting away day after day. Hopefully she'd find someone worth wearing it for, and soon. Untangling her hand from Elzo's, she walked over and slid back into her heels with only a small wobble for her trouble. "Sorry I asked like that, it was silly of me." Yep, she was a real idiot alright.

She was not about to cry. Or at least, the girl was telling herself that as she shifted through her bags, vainly searching for the short bolero sweater that she'd bothered to include. It was bad enough that she'd made a fool of herself already, it was continuously awkward to have bare arms and legs. For a girl who preferred turtlenecks and thick stockings, she felt entirely naked in front of her dance partner. Audrey was about to give up and simply throw her coat on right there inside the warm building when large arms grabbed her from behind and lightly lifted her up off the ground in a huge hug.

"Ah!" The shirt color meant that at least it was Elzo's arms around her, but they were slowly crushing her ribs and even had she not been startled all the air would have left his lungs as he squeezed her against his chest and buried his face in her hair for a quick second. Her hands rested over his arms wrapped around her tiny waist and she was about to flail when he put her down and spun her, not even allowing her a moment to catch her breath. "The roof?" That was all that registered initially, and then her breathless surprise and anxiety vanished behind a pile of giggling teenager.

"Serious business roof dancing. Gosh, you haven't seen my dress. Climbing up anywhere in that thing would be a bit excruciating. So I guess I'm going to have to start my dance card up now, how many did you want? One, five, three hundred and eleven? Hopefully they play that many songs, if you're going to be so demanding." She was privately hoping he went for the three hundred and eleven. That meant he wasn't that into his date, and she might actually have a chance. But if his date was the girl he'd stopped mentioning to her awhile ago...doom. Absolute doom. Watching him bend to tie his shoes, she waited with a patient smile and then her face turned considering. "Though they can't be all slow dances. You said you know how to dance to more popular stuff? I mean...I don't know that either. I just you know...wiggle?" Demonstrating a bit, her hips swayed and the skirt went with to make an adorable little hula circle while her shoulders moved to an imaginary beat.

In all, it was entirely ridiculous. She would never ever do it at prom. She hoped.
