CelsusasdfImitiqwertyOliverqwerytChuckThere was a rap on the door to Team Cupric’s room. Since it was before dawn, Imiti the Abra was the only one who heard it. As such, he got off his bunk as quietly as he could, floated above the Gyarados, named Celsus, and landed in front of the door. He opened it, and outside lay a package. He looked around; whoever had delivered it must have run off. The package read: D ELIVER TO S TARTER V ILLA. D O NOT OPEN. Imiti looked around again. What was the harm? Someone wanted a package delivered; they’d looked to the Guild to get it done. Good choice on their part, too. There could be nothing that could possibly go wrong. He levitated outside the room, closed the door quietly behind him, and made his way through the corridors of the West Wing, which housed the team rooms. Once he was in what remained of the Main Hall after the Dragonite incident, he was satisfied. No one would hear the— crack—as he teleported to the Starter Villa. No one except Chuck, the Charmeleon, who had awakened earlier without quite knowing how or why and had been watching the whole time. -- Imiti didn’t really look around; there wasn’t much to see. Not much had changed, after all, since he’d mapped this place out in his mind. Instead, he called out: “HEY, DOES--” He stopped immediately, noticing the effect this had on the silence that had once occupied the area. Almost immediately, a few lights turned on inside the mansion and a few angry Pokemon began showing up, their sleep having been disturbed. “Er…oops? Uh, I have a package here that’s supposed to be delivered, does anyone—” At that point, someone behind him hit him on the head, probably with some sort of blunt instrument. “It’s mine” were the last words he heard before the lights went out. -- The sun could be seen in full by anyone confident in their retinas by the time Celsus awoke like a steam train, ending any possibility for the rest of the team’s uninterrupted sleep. The guild had taken precautions after a previous incident, going as far as to soundproof the room so that he didn’t wake half the Guild again. Oliver, who had just fallen off his bunk due to the noise, picked himself up and glanced around. Imiti and Chuck were gone. -- Chuck was at the villa, having paid a Kadabra to teleport him, and paid extra due to the current time. He looked around and saw everything he expected in a gigantic abandoned mansion by the ocean: architecture from past ages, much of the place occupied by gardens, a couple of inhabitants running around doing whatever they were doing. He stopped a Combusken who appeared not to be in a hurry. “Excuse me, but have you seen an Abra with a package? Probably arrived without warning?”[c=rb]“Yeah. A Starmie hit him on the head and a bunch of Pokemon dragged him off that way.” The Combusken pointed in the direction of a range of mountains. [c=rb]Dunno what happened to him.” Under his breath, Chuck muttered, “twit.” Out loud he said “Alright, thanks.” He then broke into a run in the direction the Combusken had pointed.
--
Back in the team room, Oliver noticed a note on the ground. In messy handwriting it read: Imiti’s gone to the Starter Villa because a label on a package told him to. I’m off to make sure he doesn’t get himself hurt. Follow if I’m not back in an hour. --Chuck
--
Chuck had spotted a trail on the dirt road composed of five or so sets of footprints and was following it. It was faint due to the fact that the path was relatively firm, but luckily it was still early-ish morning and no one else had used the road. After a few kilometers, the group that Chuck was pursuing had stepped off the road and into grass, which Chuck couldn’t exactly follow footsteps in. He looked up and saw, beside him, the base of a mountain. There was a cave entrance; it seemed fairly obvious that the group had gone inside. Using his tail’s flame as a lamp, he walked in.
--
There was total darkness where Imiti awoke. He reached out with psychic energy and noticed…a stone wall, a ceiling, a metal floor, two more walls, a fourth wall with…a door. Stone as well judging by its texture. He tried the door very quietly. Locked, as he’d expected. There appeared to be a slight crack under the door, and a second scan directed through it told him that outside there was…something guarding it. He noticed a pair of claws, a couple of spikes…probably a Krabby? Looked like one, anyway. It appeared to be moving regularly, slowly, and only in very small amounts. It was probably asleep.
He tried teleporting. A jolt of electricity ran through the floor, shocking him, thwarting the attempt, and waking the guard. He heard the door open, and the Krabby walked in, probably not to set him free out of sympathy.
--
Chuck was busy. He was being swarmed by Zubats intent on a meal. He could take down a single one of the creatures with relative ease, but the bats had known this and as such had deigned to mob him. So, he was swiping frantically with his claws, each strike hitting home, but to little overall effect. He looked down, found himself backpedaling. He looked behind himself, noticed that a few of the smarter ones had went to cut him off and more were following. Quite soon, he’d be surrounded and a bit after that he may or may not be delicious.
Chuck did not feel like letting anyone find out how he tasted. Not today.
He summoned large reserves of energy, sustaining a bite in the process, and released it all outwards at once in a massive wave. For a second or so, all he heard and saw was noise and flame. A bubble of orange fire burned anything nearby, which was to say the entire swarm.
When the smoke cleared, Chuck was surrounded by fallen Zubats in various states of injury. He looked around and made a mental note to return later with some sort of group healing item or TM, mostly because he was not exactly comfortable with what had just happened.
Then he ventured further into the cave.
--
There was total darkness where Imiti awoke. He reached out with psychic energy and noticed…a stone wall, a ceiling, a metal floor, two more walls, a fourth wall with…a door. Stone as well judging by its texture. It seemed to be the same room, except this time the Krabby was considerably more alert. He knew he couldn’t teleport. If he shoved a fireball into the door’s keyhole—wait, no, it didn’t have one on this side. His psychic scan’s range was too short to get around the door and find whatever was used to open it, so no chance of him simply hitting the mechanisms through the door, at least very accurately. Besides, causing an explosion inside a small room probably wasn’t the best idea.
The other moves that he had included singing interlaced with magic to cause other Pokemon, in this case the guard, to fall asleep and one where he shot snow. He could not picture himself making use of either in this situation.
What to do…
--
Chuck got to his feet, pushing the unconscious Raticate off of him. So far he’d had to defend himself from the Zubat swarm, several Geodudes, an Onyx, and now this Raticate. He really was starting to wish there were less wild Pokemon in caves. This was really rather cumbersome and hindering to progress, and he had scratches all over him. He knew he was lucky nothing had eaten him yet.
Eventually a corridor branched off of the cave. Unlike what he’d seen so far, this one had a rectangular cross-section and was dimly lit, indicating that it had been artificially dug out. Naturally, he followed it.
--
Imiti had come up with a way to get out. His innate abilities allowed him to move objects though not with very much force, and if he probed hard enough he could see a key in the Krabby’s pocket. He could also sing very, very softly.
--
Chuck continued down the corridor that he had discovered. After not very long, he heard a couple of Pokemon speaking in what upon further progress turned out to be something along the lines of “…changing things a lot.” “D’you think the renovations were really necessary?” “Well we’ve only now managed to catch someone.”
Chuck approached the corner from which the voices were coming and listened for a few seconds more. He wasn’t exactly successful at gathering more information, however, since the next word he heard were “Hey, who’s there?”
Blast! He’d been unable to dim his tail flame, which was significantly brighter than the lighting here. A pair of Empoleons stepped around the corner. One, not wanting to waste time asking questions, shot water.
--
Imiti managed to get the key out of the now-sleeping Krabby’s pocket. He maneuvered it to the door, let them downward gently, and…wasn’t successful at getting it through the crack. It was too small; the key didn’t fit.
Coming up with an alternate solution, Imiti rammed a psychic probe into the door. Then he did so harder, and harder again. On the third attempt he managed to get what passed for vision here through the door, and found the lock mechanism and more importantly the keyhole. He committed the location to memory and ceased concentration on the probe. Then he reached out with psychic energy back through the crack in the door and used it to pick up the key, maneuver it to the lock, and open the door.
--
Chuck dodged the jet of water by inches and decided that he didn’t want to fight here. These were two highly powerful water-types against…a Charmeleon. He wouldn’t stand a chance. As such, Chuck put up a cloud of thick black smoke. Then he reached into his pack, found his smoke ball, and reinforced the cloud three times over. Then he ran for it—into the complex, leaving the two guards coughing in the polluted air.
--
Oliver and Celsus had just finished breakfast and as such they went back to their team room to prepare for whatever it was they were going to do that day. As Oliver walked inside, he glanced at the clock. An hour had long passed.
“Celsus, we’re heading to the villa. Get your things.”
Already in the act of getting his things, Celsus replied, “Alright then. There’re only two apples left; should we buy some supplies?” Having gathered all items that were probably going to be useful he began heading out the door.
“I’ll do that. Wait for me in…say, the marketplace. It should still be fairly empty right now.”
A couple of minutes later Oliver met with Celsus again in the marketplace; he’d purchased three apples and hired someone to teleport them. With a crack they were gone.
--
Imiti stayed away from light, using regular psychic scans instead of vision, as he progressed through the corridors. Since he was levitating, he made no noise; he was undetectable as long as he didn’t run into something.
During this time he discovered something he believed to be highly interesting: The dungeon he was in was quite large, but he was the only one in it. There were no other prisoners whatsoever. Furthermore, everything was new. The bars present in some of the cellblocks were smooth enough that, were he using normal light, he could see his own face in them. The stone walls showed very little wear. It was as if the whole place had been only recently built, which was probably the truth.
--
Chuck ducked, dodged, and weaved his way through the complex, leaving a trail of thick smoke. A jet of water soared over his head which had been lowered a split second before; he feinted and ran past a Shellder. A pair of Staryus got in front of him and blocked his path fully, ending his advance; the enemies he’d gotten past closed behind him.
There was no escape.
So Chuck chose the most reasonable option and hit one of the Staryus with indigo fire.
He suddenly became prone as seven jets of water struck where his head had been. From that position, he threw his smoke ball at the group that he’d dodged. Then he rolled to dodge another three simultaneous jets.
Then the earth shook.
--
An unfortunate Kingler struck the wall, little arcs of electricity all over his body, having been sent there by a massive set of teeth. Celsus then spun around, sweeping a Prinplup, Croconaw, and Dewgong out of his path. A roaring blast of indigo fire was sent through the corridor, striking everyone in the Gyarados’s path.
Behind him, enemies closed in as he passed an intersection between corridors. Oliver intercepted them, stabbing one as soon as they met and holding off the others so that his leader could focus on what was in front.
--
Chuck turned to look, as did everyone around him, at the direction of the noise. Realizing that it was his team, he got to his feet and slashed a Tentacool from behind with a claw. As everyone’s attention snapped back to him, he created another cloud of smoke and ran.
--
To Imiti, the mayhem could be heard muffled by quite a few walls of stone. He followed it to see where it would lead.
--
Celsus could soon see a trio of Pokemon, a Cloyster and two Blastoises, who did not appear intimidated in the slightest. He roared. They still weren't intimidated. That really was somewhat confusing.
The Cloyster spoke. “Welcome to my new base of operations. I see you’ve been having fun.”
“Where did you put him?”
“Oh, the Abra? In a cell somewhere. Are you the rest of the team?”
The sound of movement caused Celsus to turn around very suddenly.
They were surrounded. By dozens and dozens of Water-types.
--
“Hey, Chuck!”
“Imiti?”
“In here!”
The pursuers thundered by the supply closet exactly one second later.
--
“Well, I think we can declare this test to be a success.”
“Test?”
“The package. We had no idea that you’d come so quickly. Congratulations on being our first prisoners, to be held here until we can assemble a more impressive collection.”
“And then?”
--
Imiti and Chuck approached the scene in shadows. They could hear the Cloyster speaking, saying something along the lines of “…we will demand a ransom. What did you think? And the best part is…”
--
“…that even after we kill a few of you off there will still be plenty left to ransom.”
At this point something soared through the air and beaned the Cloyster on the head before becoming a cloud of acrid smoke. Chuck could be seen running in, fetching his smoke ball, and hurling it in the general direction of the enemies, creating another cloud of smoke among them.
Celsus let loose a torrent of indigo flames where the smoke ball had hit. “Get on!”
The rest of the team got onto Celsus, Imiti having fetched the Cloyster and teleported. As the wall of enemies advanced, Chuck grabbed his smoke ball that had been helpfully kicked in his direction, pressed his exploration badge and—

Back at the guild the team were presented a Water Stone and Icicle Spear by a Wartortle with a grin on his face. "So you are the guys that got that Cloyster! Sorry that you got tangled up in this by mistake, still the reward is yours for doing the deed!" After leaving the gang with their hard-earned goodies, he turned and left, pausing to hold the door open for a group of small Pokemon who stepped in to cluster around the giant Gyarados in awe. "Hello!",a tiny Torchic stated. "My big brother said you guys saved the villa! Your so cool! Can I join you?!" "No! Let me!" Declared the Piplup next to him. "NO! ME!" A Chikorita comented as well.
The team could only pick one though!

Tetris && Luka Blasts of flame collided. Claws clashed against talons; tore at fur and feather alike. The Torchic and Chimchar broke apart and darted backwards, catching their breath and glaring fiercely at one another as they each looked for an opening to attack. After a few seconds, both combatants barreled forward again to resume the fray in a frenzy, the crowd around them growing louder with anxious excitement and watching intently.
Three Smeargle observed the fight from chairs on a raised platform with a Porygon bound by vines beside them; and theirs was a quiet glee, twisted and sadistic as they watched the fighters sink slowly into exhaustion. But the captive Porygon's face was blank, only observing with emotionless interest except for when his eyes flickered briefly to a face in the crowd that stood out against the mass of blue, green and orange bodies.
This standout did not return his glance, too fixated on watching the fight with growing anger boiling beneath his skin to notice the look. He was tense and outraged, and knew very well that his turn in the makeshift arena was fast approaching...
-----------
But enough. Now turn back the clock and move to the edge of the the dungeon, where two pokemon approached with many scattered and incorrect ideas as to what they would soon discover.
"The bounty mission describes three targets, each specializing in a different type. It could prove considerably challenging, as they are proven criminals as well as outnumbering us."
"Yeah, yew keep sayin' that." Luka scowled back over his shoulder at his partner, but Tetris simply gave the closest thing to a shrug he could manage.
"Well, you haven't been responding, so I felt I needed to repeat myself until I could be certain that you had heard me." He pointed out matter-of-factly. "I'm just skeptical as to whether or not this was a wise choice for our first official job."
Luka scoffed but gave no real answer.
After a few seconds of silence, Tetris gave up on waiting for a response with a roll of his eyes. "Do we really know what we're doing?" he asked, prodding his partner to speak.
"We can't really form a plan 'til we know jes' how bad things are. Ah mean, the bounty specs don' really say much 'bout how we should do this." The rodent sighed and shook his head at whoever had written the mission.
"True..." the Porygon admitted, and if he had a mouth he would have frowned thoughtfully. "So I suppose we'll just have to advance with caution and take care."
Luka grinned. "Sounds like a plan tuh me."
The duo followed this plan as they made their way into the Starter Villa--making as little noise as possible and keeping their eyes peeled for the slightest movement--but they needn't have bothered. It was becoming increasingly obvious that the dungeon was apparently deserted, not a living soul to be seen anywhere apart from the Exploration Team wandering around in confusion.
"What th' hell is goin' on?" Luka mused as he peered into yet another empty home in the base of a tree, "Where is ev'rybody?"
"I would at least expect to find bodies, unless they've been deposited in a mass grave somewhere..." Tetris looked around, ignoring the incredulous look his partner shot at him.
"Don' be so optimistic, Tetris." the Emolga growled sarcastically.
"It's just incredibly unlikely that all the inhabitants could just disappear, and--" He cut himself off, stiffening as his eyes narrowed slightly and stared into the distance. "I hear something."
Luka trotted over to the Porygon and frowned, his ears twitching as he listened hard to try and hear what Tetris had. "Whut, seriously? Yer--Wait, Ah hear it too. 'S like a crowd 'r somethin'." He frowned and glanced sidelong at his partner. "Man, how is it yew've gawt better hearing 'n me, when yew've gawt no ears an' mine 're the size uh soup pots?"
Tetris' eyes flashed in the closest thing to a smile he could perform. "Technology. Now let's go, we have a noise to investigate!"
It turned out that Luka had been right: the sound was that of a crowd. A pretty huge crowd too, with just about every inhabitant of the Starter Villa standing in a single mass around an open circle and a ramshackle platform made of sticks and rocks. But it wasn't the numbers or the spectacle that attracted Tetris' attention, it was who was on the platform overlooking the crowd.
"There. Our targets."
Startled, Luka broke his eyes away from the massive mob of pokemon and followed the Porygon's gaze, frowning when he too saw the trio sitting there.
Three Smeargle, one with a red splotch of paint on his tail, one with blue, and the other green. They alone seemed especially pleased by what they were watching, and their expressions were undeniably those of criminals.
"Yep, those're our boys alright." Luka breathed.
"But what are they doing? Is this some sort of ritual?" Tetris questioned, and his partner chuckled humorlessly.
"Man, yew gotta quit focusin' on the targets an' look around." His smile faded and he nodded at the open circle in the midst of the crowd. "It's a fight."
As if on cue, there was a small explosion and a cloud of steam as fire and water attacks collided in the ring, and when it cleared the forms of two pokemon tearing frantically at each other became visible. The Squirtle retreated into its shell as the Cyndaquil curled into a Flame Wheel attack, sending its opponent skidding across the ground. Undeterred, the mouse launched a Flamethrower the second the Squirtle emerged from its shell, but the attack was dodged at the last moment and the turtle blasted the Cyndaquil with Water Gun, causing it to shriek in surprise and pain as it tumbled head over heels from the force of the water.
The mouse struggled to its feet, and blasted another Flamethrower as the Squirtle launched another Water Gun, but this time the attacks failed to collide. They were disintegrated by an explosion of electricity from in between them, and when the smoke cleared there were an extra two pokemon on the battlefield.
"Hello." Tetris said brightly, nodding to the astonished crowd. "I hope we aren't interrupting anything too tremendously important."
"We're here cuz uh yew three." Luka declared, pointing at the Smeargle on their platform.
Tetris nodded. "You see, we're an Exploration Team, and there's a bounty on the three of you. Apparently you've been causing a bit of trouble here."
There was silence for a moment, then the Smeargle with the red tail laughed. "Wild! You two're here to try and catch us?"
"A bit of an...unorthodox way of trying to hunt outlaws." mused the blue-tailed criminal.
"They're funny, though." added the Smeargle with a green tail.
"I'd like to see you runts beat anything! Get outta here!" the red Smeargle announced, then he took a deep breath and fired a Flamethrower down at the two pokemon.
They didn't move, watching the flames calmly until Luka's cheeks sparked and he blasted a Thunder attack into the fire, neutralizing the blow with an explosion that sent several members of the crowd into a screaming panic.
"Don' underestimate us, Mister." the Emolga warned in a low voice.
The red Smeargle seemed taken aback by this, but his brothers laughed at his astonishment.
"Well then, explorers, if you've come to fight us, have at it."
"But keep in mind, we do have quite a few little friends here you'd have to get through first..." the brothers motioned to the crowd around them, who accordingly puffed themselves up to try and look more intimidating. They needn't have bothered, though, as their numbers alone were more than enough of a message.
Tetris shook his head. "No, we're aware that we can't take on your entire entourage here. But I have to notice that you seem to be the sporting type, so is there some other way we could settle this...?"
The criminals looked at each other, first confused, then an idea seemed to dawn on them and they grinned in unison.
"Fine. We'll make you kids a deal." announced the red brother.
"As you can see, we have a bit of a fighting tournament going on here." added the blue.
"If one of you joins in and does well enough, we'll give you a shot at fighting us. Does that sound fair?"
Luka scoffed. "No, but we'll take it."
"Good answer." the blue-tailed Smeargle said with a dark smirk.
The two started to move out of the ring, but were stopped by the green brother's voice. "Oh, and...one more thing."
"We're gonna need one of you as a hostage, to make sure the competitor doesn't do anything...stupid."
"Are yew kiddin' me?! Yew've already gawt us, yeh don' need any more lev'rage!" Luka snapped in annoyance, but before he could say anything else Tetris chimed in.
"Very well then. I'll be your hostage." he said calmly.
Luka grabbed the Porygon and leaned in close. "What're yew doin'?!" he hissed. "Can't yew see they're jes' stackin' th' odds even more?!"
"I know. But we'll have to play their game if we want to complete this mission successfully. Besides," his eyes smiled, "I'm not helpless."
And with that, the Porygon made his way up to the platform, and held perfectly still as he was bound with a Vine Whip from the green-tailed Smeargle, staring into space with an expression of mechanical calm. Luka glared, but said nothing and retreated into the crowd of starters to await his turn in the ring, and with a signal from the red brother, the Squirtle and Cyndaquil resumed their battle.
-----------
There was a scream from the ring, drawing Luka's attention back to the fight in a flash as the Chimchar took a powerful hit from the Torchic's talons. Sensing an opening, the bird followed up with a Peck, and with another yelp and a decided THUD, the Chimchar collapsed on the ground, unconscious. The crowd roared, though there was a decided note of unease in their voices, but the Smeargles' joy was unaffected, all three applauding and laughing sadistically as the Chimchar was dragged off into the crowd.
"Okay, Guild rat! You're up!" called the red-tailed brother, sneering down at Luka who returned his glance with a vicious glare.
The Emolga remained silent, though a few angry sparks crackled from his body as he stepped into the ring and looked over at the opponent entering from within the crowd. It was a Treecko, young and frightened but with a determined expression on its face as it assumed a fighting stance and waited for a signal from the Smeargles.
Luka sighed as the signal was given, then waited as the Treecko dashed forward with a Quick Attack, at the last second using Double Team to leave the startled grass-type stumbling through an illusion. Before the gecko could work out which of the several copies was real, Luka's tail started to glow and he swung Iron Tail smack across the Treecko's face. The lizard yelped in pain and fell to the ground, but it recovered quickly and got back to its feet before hurling an Energy Ball at Luka, who made the mistake of darting to the side to avoid it.
Next thing he knew, the Treecko's tail was pounding into his torso in a Slam attack, and he skidded back a good ways on the ground, winded by the blow. The Emolga cursed under his breath as he got up, but no sooner had he done so when his opponent nearly deafened him with an ear-splitting Screech, rendering him doubled over with his paws frantically clutching at his sensitive ears. Confident, the lizard shot Giga Drain at Luka, but he pulled himself together and leapt up out of the way, using the draft created by the attack to glide up into the air, and before the Treecko had time to react it was being flattened by a powerful Air Slash from above. It got halfway back to its feet when Luka landed, then in an instant it was slammed with a Quick Attack that sent it flying across the ring, and it was out cold by the time it hit the ground.
The crowd was uncertain how to react to this turn of events, glancing nervously at the Smeargle to follow their lead; but when they saw the brothers laughing and clapping, they all eagerly burst out cheering. Luka sighed, not terribly pleased by the victory, but he couldn't help but smile a little at the genuine reaction from the crowd that confirmed what he had suspected all along: these locals weren't participating in these fights willingly, they were all forced. Maybe, just maybe they could use that to their advantage when the time came.
-----------
The battles progressed at a rapid pace, with the skills of the fighters varying from bout to bout as well as the type match-ups. Luka was doing well, defeating several opponents including an Oshawott who fainted dead away as soon as the Emolga surrounded it with Double Team copies and a Turtwig who got smacked silly after biting down on Luka's tail. Everything was going as smoothly as could be expected, until an inevitable bump in the proceedings came along.
"No!" A Charmander crouched with his claws on his head in a defensive posture, sobbing pathetically as his opponent, a Totodile, looked on in uncertainty.
"I won't do it! I don't wanna fight!" the lizard shrieked, shaking his head frantically and rocking back and forth.
The Totodile fidgeted uncomfortably and glanced up at the Smeargles with a pleading look, silently asking for instructions as the Charmander continued to whimper and cry.
"You have to fight, it's your turn. Get up!" demanded the blue-tailed Smeargle.
"Quit crying, you baby, and fight!" added the red brother.
The Charmander shook his head again. "No! It's not fair! He's water-type, he'll beat me! I give up, I don't wanna fight!"
"It wouldn't be any fun to watch if we let you just quit. You have to fight." the green-tailed brother reasoned, but he received only a strangled sob.
"I won't do it! I can't do it! Just let me go home! I wanna go home!" cried the Charmander, his voice breaking as he burst into a fresh wave of tears.
There was dead silence as the crowd watched the scene, all listening to the lizard's sobs and looking away nervously as they waited for the criminal siblings to deliver their verdict.
"Well, I guess there's no reasoning with you..." The blue brother finally broke the silence.
"If you refuse to play our little game..." continued the green Smeargle.
A dark grin crossed the red-tailed brother's face. "We'll just have to take you out of it!"
The trio stood up from their chairs and the crowd wavered nervously, watching them with wide eyes as the Smeargles stepped forward and raised their tails in unison. Green, blue and red flashed in the air, and Tetris immediately recognized the moves being used.
"Frenzy Plant, Hydro Cannon, Blast Burn... The ultimate starter techniques..." he murmured to himself, surprised almost into a trance by the sight of the powerful attacks blending together in midair.
The crowd grew more anxious, trying to back away from the energy building above them as flames, water and grass built up their strength and combined into one huge mass of power. Luka stared in astonishment, paralyzed by the sense of energy being emitted. Tetris closed his eyes.
"We warned you, kiddo!" the red brother shouted in malicious glee, then the three Smeargles blasted their joint attack in unison down into the ring.
The Charmander's last scream was drowned out by the explosion.
Several members of the crowd shrieked in horror and alarm as they shielded themselves from the shockwave, and it took several minutes before the dust settled enough for anyone to see anything, pokemon pulling themselves up and looking around nervously for the result of the attack. There was barely a corpse left, too mangled to really make out what it had once been, and there were several piercing screams and murmurs of horror throughout the crowd as word spread towards the outer fringes of the mob. The Totodile got slowly to its feet, having been knocked down by the blast, staring wide-eyed at the remains of what was supposed to have been its opponent and clearly fighting back the urge to be sick.
Gaping at the body, Luka's paws shook and his expression slowly started to morph from horror to rage, his teeth clenched and his heart rate rising. 'That wuz jus' a kid! All he wanted wuz tuh go home! An' they...!'
When the Smeargles started to laugh, Luka snapped.
An Electro Ball slammed into the red-tailed brother's gut, sending him toppling backwards with a THUD as his siblings stared in astonishment.
"YEW BASTARDS!!" Luka stood in the middle of the ring, his entire body crackling with electricity as he glared wildly at the criminals. "YEW KILLED 'IM! HE WUZ A KID! HE DIDN'T DESERVE THAT! JES' CUZ HE DIDN'T WANNA FIGHT IN YER STUPID GAME, YEW KILLED 'IM!!" he shouted, enraged as the Totodile retreated back into the crowd to avoid the sparks.
The red Smeargle got to his feet, also glaring viciously. "Okay, you wanted a fight?! I'm gonna give you a fight you'll never forget!" he snarled, and before his brothers could even try to stop him he leapt off the platform into the ring where Luka waited.
Flame Wheel collided with Spark; the two bounced back; blasted each other with Flamethrower and Shock Wave. Blaze Kick and Iron Tail slammed into one another. Strength seemed even.
When Luka managed to pound a Quick Attack into the Smeargle, the brother growled incoherently as he stumbled backwards, and the two fighters paused for a moment to catch their breath.
The Smeargle laughed breathlessly. "Enough's enough. Let's see you dodge this one, runt!"
Within seconds the entire ring was being blasted by massive pillars of flame, the Blast Burn ripping over the ground and catching Luka despite his best attempts to get out of the way. The Emolga screamed and tumbled, skidding across the ring and coming to rest at the anxious crowd's feet, where he lay still.
"Ha! You see? That's what happens when you act up like that!" The Smeargle whirled around to leer at the terrified crowd, panting and pulling himself together after delivering such a powerful attack.
He started to speak again, but was cut off by a blast of Thunder sending him crashing to the ground, and when he looked up in a rage he saw Luka slowly getting up, eyes narrowed and determined.
"Ah ain't done with yew yet."
The Smeargle snarled angrily and blasted Heat Wave at the Emolga, but Luka simply caught the hot air and was lifted into the air by it, from there zapping the red brother again with another Thunder attack, followed up by a quick Air Slash. He was grazed when the criminal shot several Flamethrowers up at him, but he managed to land fairly gently and used Agility to dodge the next few frenzied attacks from his adversary, darting back and forth and building up speed until he leapt forward and slammed a Spark into the Smeargle. The brother flung Fire Punch at him, only to have it pass through an illusionary copy, and the next moment the criminal received an Iron Tail to the back of the head, sending him crashing down with a defeated groan.
Luka wobbled a little, but started forward to knock out the Smeargle for sure, another Iron Tail beginning to glow when suddenly he was sideswiped by an Energy Ball, collapsing with a pained yelp.
"All right, enough."
The remaining two Smeargles hopped down off their platform and shoved the crowd aside, stepping into the ring and frowning down at Luka and their brother, shaking their heads.
"Honestly, that's just embarrassing. One of us being knocked down by a single little explorer." the blue-tailed Smeargle sighed.
"We'll have to kill him in a particularly gruesome way to make sure our reputation isn't affected by this." agreed the green brother.
"Definitely. But what about--" The criminal was cut off as he and his brother were both shocked by a Discharge from behind, and they whirled around to see Tetris floating there, free of the vines that had been binding him. "Me?"
"Yew sure took yer sweet time!" Luka rasped teasingly, smiling weakly.
The Smeargles growled in annoyance, their tails twitching irately. "And you think you can take down the two of us yourself? Don't be ridiculous!"
"It took your little friend all he had to beat one of us, there's no way you can handle two!"
Tetris gave the closest thing to a smile his species was capable of. "Oh I'm aware of that. But I don't think I'll have to. See, now the entire dungeon has proof that you are not invincible."
The brothers blinked, looking around as a murmur went through the crowd around them at the Porygon's words.
"I mean, you can't expect to keep pushing them around after what you've done. They aren't helpless, you know." he continued, and the crowd's murmur grew louder.
"Shut up!" the blue-tailed Smeargle snapped, but with a hint of fear in his voice. "We can do what we like! We own this place!"
"Even without our brother, we can still crush every single one of you!"
"Of course yew can." Luka chimed in, chuckling. "An' that's why yer bro here got his butt handed to 'im by lil' ol' me."
The murmur of the crowd was now a dull roar, various pokemon glaring and bristling at the two Smeargle staring around at them in a panic. "Yeah! We don't have to take this!" cried one local.
"You're not gods! You can't force us to fight each other like this!" shouted another.
"And you can't get away with murdering one of our people!!" screamed a third, and then the entire mob burst out into a loud explosion of anger.
"G-get back! All of you!" cried the blue brother, pressed against the green as the crowd started to move in.
"You'll be sorry! We m-mean it!" added the grass-expert.
They were both ignored however, and the mass of starters pressed in from all sides as Tetris darted into the crowd and helped Luka up onto the platform, the two watching in satisfaction as the Smeargles grabbed onto each other and shrieked in unison: "Mommy!!"
-----------
Luka leaned against Tetris for support, still slightly off-balance as the duo watched the final vines from a Bulbasaur wrap around the three unconscious Smeargles, tying them up for safe transport into police custody.
"Really, thank you for what you did." a Snivy said with a smile, bowing its head.
"Nonsense, we barely did a thing." Tetris tutted.
"Y'all did most 'uh the work. We jes' helped git things movin' is all." added Luka with a grin.
"I only wish we'd had the guts to stand up to them sooner." sniffed a Charmander, who was family of the murdered child.
"Well, these three ain't gonna be causin' trouble for a long time, if Ah git any say in it." Luka frowned sympathetically, making his way over to the Smeargles along with Tetris and taking out his Explorer Badge.
Several local pokemon waved goodbye as they teleported back to the Guild, and Tetris waved back as best he could with his tail, his eyes smiling reassuringly at the scattering crowd of starters. There had been a casualty, but overall the mission was still a success.

The guild reward the duo a fair sum of PD upon return for completing a bounty. A total of 3oooPD was presented to Luka, of who had arms which Tetris didn't, and the Magnezone handing it to them gave a polite nod before moving on to his other duties. Shortly after retiring to their room a knock sounded on the door and opening it would reveal a Charizard with a morose expression, the mother of the murdered child at the villa. "Hello, hope I'm not disturbing you. I just wanted to give you this...as a thank you for ending the madness." She set a box down before the team before slowly turning and walking away. Though, immediately behind her was a the same Charmander who'd thanked the team before. He had come with his mother to deliver the package but had stayed out of a need to not share his brother's fate. To become stronger. "Would you mind...if I joined you?"
Inside the box Tetris and Luka would find: Charcoal A Smeargle Egg A flamethrower or Bubble or Vinewhip TM

Luka had been in the middle of lifting the Charizard's box when her son spoke, and the Emolga nearly dropped it again in surprise. "Yew wanna... Are yeh sure?" he asked, frowning in concern. It wasn't that he didn't want the kid on their team, but he didn't want the Charmander making a huge life decision out of grief over his brother's death. "I'm sure." the lizard clenched his fists and the blue flames on the end of his tail flared up a little. "I really mean it. Please." Luka studied the Charmander's face for a moment, then he sighed and leaned back into the room. "Tetris? Hey, Tetris! Ah need tuh talk tuh yew!" he called. "What about?" the slightly robotic voice of the Porygon echoed from the depths of the room.
"Well it's.... Y'know, this is stupid." Luka turned to the Charmander and grinned. "Jes' come inside an' we'll talk tuh him without havin' tuh shout." The lizard nodded meekly and stepped inside, looking around at what he hoped may be his new home. "So, yew gawt a name, kid?" Luka asked as he closed the door behind them. "Yeah, it's Judas." he paused, frowning, then added, "But people mostly just call me Jude."
