~The Lonely Little Vial~ Clink. Clink. Clunk. The round perfume bottle, still full of its liquid fragrance, fell out of its buyers pocket and landed on the ground where unknowing feet nudged and kicked it until it was lying against the wall of a building, nearly cracked from its little disaster, and yet somehow unharmed. It lay there for hours, days maybe - for how could an object tell time? Rain washed over it, cleansing it of the dirt it had gathered in its fall, and making its glass sparkle and shine as the sun peeked out from behind the clouds. Down the street, a mother had two toddlers on baby leashes and two infants in a stroller, looking quite overwhelmed as she attempted to make her way over to the bookstore. "Lissy, shh, little one, I'll get you some balm for your wings as soon as we get to Jadyn's - Axel, no setting that rattle on fire! Miri, pleas,e please do not try and bring home a pet rat again! Luvvie - Luvvie where -" The distraught woman's cries increased when she noticed that her blonde-haired daughter was stretching to the limits of her pink toddler lead, pointing frantically at something sparkly. As soon as the massive group of babies got close enough, the little blonde snatched up the vial - the contents within swishing around as she did so. Tish immediately snatched the vial fro out of Luvvie's hands, a worried frown crossing her face. "Luvenia Jenkins, you shouldn't pick up random things from off of the street, you don't know where... it's... been..." Something was oddly compelling about this little perfume bottle, and the brunette's rebuke died on her lips. This object. . . she needed it. . . or it needed her, somehow. . . She didn't know where it had come from, or if it belonged to anyone - no, it belonged to her, and her alone, she could sense that. . . Sighing at her own inability to resist the pull of the little object - she didn't even know what the perfume's scent was! - Tish stuck it in her purse and continued on her way, not having a clue that she had just taken yet another member into her crazy, child-filled household. In her purse, the perfume bottle almost - almost- seemed to give a little sigh, as if it had finally found what it had been searching for.

~A Scent-sational Toddler~ A few days after she had brought home the odd perfume vial, Tish sat on the couch and held it in her hands, watching the liquid inside swirl around. She wondered if there was something wrong with it, if it had spoiled somehow -the color, which had been a bluish color even within the bottle's tint, seemed to seep away, leaving a gray and dead-looking bottle. "Strange," the human said, watching the item with bright blue eyes. Curiously, every time she had checked it in the past few days, its scent changed. Sometimes it was pleasant, sometimes it was unpleasant. Once she swore it smelled like bottled skunk spray! However, five minutes later it smelled of a sweet mix of rosemary and lavender. "Maaaaamaaa, Axel broke my DOLLIE," came a yell from upstairs, accompanied by a wailing shout of "Did not! You're a liar!""No, you're the liar!""No, YOU are!"With a sigh, Tish placed the vial down on the coffee table and moved upstairs to tend to her two fighting children. Luvenia and Axel stood facing one another over a doll that lay on the floor, the stitches that held its head to its body torn away. The middle child, Miriam, knelt between them, gathering the doll to herself and peeking at it through the red glass of her plague mask, singing a soft song to the 'dead' doll. Slapping a hand to her face, Tish got down to the business of breaking up the fight and fixing everything up yet again. Fifteen minutes later, she came downstairs with a book in hand, intent on regaining her peace of mind with a few minutes of relaxing reading, only to notice immediately that the perfume bottle was... completely gray? What was even odder was that there was a tiny... blue and purple... girl sitting on the floor, grabbing at the perfume vial. Tish was no idiot; she knew how things worked in Gaia, and having gotten all four of her children through less than ordinary means, she recognized that the perfume bottle and this little, oddly-colored child were connected. This was only confirmed when the scent of bananas and coconut wafted through the air ,surrounding the naked toddler, as the little one stopped going after the bottle and clapped her hands together, gleefully giggling and babbling happily away.

~Name that Smell~ "Faiya, come back here!" Tish yelped, chasing the very wet, very naked toddler down the hall from the bath. This was a routine that had developed overnight in the the Jenkins household - any time Faiya, the little girl who came from a perfume bottle, got the chance, her clothes were off and she was running. "Faiya, we don't run around naked! It's not polite!" She said some variant of this almost every night that the toddler had been in her care. It never worked. Faiya just giggled and ran on, the smell of cinnamon and butter trailing her around the house. This time, though, instead of running into the playroom and hiding behind the toys - or her siblings - Faiya made a left turn and ran into the kitchen, almost immediately slipping on the tile and falling to the ground, a bright red cut opening on her knee, accompanied by a panicked wail. Tish noticed the smell before she heard the sound - she couldn't identify it, aside from the fact that it was horrible and made her nose actively feel like it was burning. When the wail followed a split second after, the brunette was already in the kitchen, scooping Faiya up and spotting the cut on her knee. Murmuring comforting words, she took the little one back to the bathroom, the eyes of her other children following her - particularly Lissy, who fought off tears herself - maybe from the horrible stench, maybe because her sister was hurting, Tish couldn't tell - and started to doctor the horribly painful cut. It was only later, when the cut was doctored and Faiya was dressed, happily munching on a cookie for being a brave big girl, that she would look back and realize what the scent was - the acrid stench of burning flesh, mixed with ammonia and the metallic scent of too much blood. It was a smell Tish never, ever wanted to have touch her nose ever again, and she vowed she'd do everything in her power to prevent it. As Faiya poked at the starry band-aid covering the cut, chattering nonsense about how it was pretty while the scent of raspberries and vanilla surrounded her, Tish reached over and patted her daughter on the head, smiling warmly at her and receiving a cookie-crumb covered smile in return. It was said that fear had a scent. Tish knew now that pain had one too.

~Mixed-Up Symbols~ Faiya stared up at her Mama through wide violet eyes as the woman sat down on the floor, two big books spread between them. The books were soft and squichy to the touch, the pages thick and easy for little hands to turn. The blue and purple toddler flopped to the ground, her legs spread out in front of her as she stared at the books, poking at them curiously with one hand while the other made its way to her mouth. Mm, she could still almost taste the cookie she'd had earlier - but then that could be because she waas currently making the air around her smell like fresh-baked cookies. Yummy~! Curiously, she jabbed at the books again and looked up at Tish, speaking around her fingers. "Wha'sh deshe fo', Mama?" She asked, giggling at the sticky fingerprints her hand left on the book. Tish looked at her patiently and smiled, opening the first page of the first book, where a big apple was on there along with a big black...... something. It looked kind of like the thing Mama said was a tri-angel or something - though Fay-Fay had no idea what that had to to with an angel like Lissy - except the bottom part had been squinched up to the middle. Next to it was a little surr-kal with a shirt line on one side. "Wha'sh datsh? Twi-anjel?" Faiya asked, then had to repeat herself when her mother gently admonished her for chewing on her fingers again. "Wha's that? Issit a tri-angel?"Tish shook her head and smiled, patting the picture in the book. "No, but that's a good guess, Fay-Fay. That's the letter 'A', and today you're going to learn the alphabet and how to count all the way to ten!" Faiya tilted her head and pouted a bit, the air filling with the scent of lemongrass and mint - she was confused. "But I KNOW th' alfaabet, Mama! Issa song! Ae-bee-see-dee-eee-eff-gee-aech-ai-jay-kay-ell-emm-en-oh-pee! Kew arr ess, tee yew vee, dubble-yew ex, wai an' zee!" she sang all in one breath, beaming a happy smile at her mother. She giggled a little when she received a hug for her efforts, but soon had to settle down and learn that they weren't all something strung together - and then came the fun learning of numbers, with the help of a few old Sesame Street videos and Mama's books. After Tish had put the books away for the day, Faiya diligently recited what she'd learned. "Firs' comes "A", then comes "B", next comes "C", an' then "D"! "One two three, four five six! Nine "T" "Z", seven "F" "E"! "I" "Q" "U", THEN COMES MEEEE!"Well alright, so it wasn't exactly what she learned or in the right order, but it was a good song!
