{..............................................................................Unspoken Understandings...}

Pukio
((Wolf A: Lalala.
Shanti: *ninjabamf!*
Wolf A: Oh SNAPZ!))

It was an uncannily warm afternoon, considering the general weather in the depths of winter. The sun was coming down through the sprase clutches of trees, skimming the tops of the leaves and filtering down to mottle the cold earth. Ekundu had picked a shallow overhang of rock as his winter 'home,' the little passage nested on a low hill near a stand of trees. It was warm and the surrounding snow had a way of keeping to a thin layer due to the amount of thawing that was going on (thanks again, in part, to the somewhat sparse tree life in the immediate vacinity).

The large, orange-red he wolf was, at that moment, basking easily on a flat slab of a rock. Generally at that time of day he might be lumbering through the trees or sniffing down something interesting to eat, but on that afternoon he intended to take advantage of the sunshine; transplant some warmth back into his winter weary bones.

He was a large wolf, somewhat inept at the slinking most of his brethren attended to; though, he bright stark-against-snow coloring served him no justice in that matter either. He took up a majority of the stone slab's surface space with his wide belly and his thick fur. The pads of his feet and the end of his slightly bushy tail hung off the rock, brushing idly at the thin layer of snow that topped his little winter retreat. He frankly hadn't expected it to remain 'his' as long as it had. Usually, being in the free, somewhat populated lands of these woods, any so-called home that lay abandoned for most of the day was no longer there to return to after a few hours of exploring. He'd been lucky.

Ekundu stretched and shook his head lightly in the warmth of the sun. His ears twitched. It was a good day.

Ary Keeyara
Darkness hung over her counciousness, and yet, it wasn't cloudy, like most forms of sleep wolves took. Oh, no, it was almost as if she was still away, but only with her eyes shut. As a new scent drifted into the air, she was quick to catch it, even if she still held the smooth rhythmic beat of sleep within her breathing. And she heard this other wolf, a male by scent, coming over. She did not stir, as was her nature, even when she heard his pads slide over onto the rock above her and then felt his weight fully lie upon it's surface.

Red orbs slide open in the shadows beneath the rock, eerily catching all the light that seemed to go there, leaving her fur and body among the darkness. She had known this was someone else's "home", but this was a common practice for her. She would choose a warm, already lived in space to rest for a while before continuing. After all, she was not the type to stay in one place for long.

Pukio
Wolf smells were no longer a stark contrast to the air. Here, there was always the faint tang of another wolf; somwhere walking, watching, waiting, running or sliding past with all the motions of a hunter and only by smell could a name and tag be placed on any of them. They were handfuls of smoke that slid through every crack and cranny, filled the places they were allowed and then moved on.

For this reason, it was a few moments of idle sun bathing before Ekundu picked up the sharper smell, realizing that this one was not in a constant state of weatherworn erosion as the others. As other and older smells quietly become fainter and less obtrusive on the nose with each light gust of breeze, this one stayed somewhat constant. Ekundu wrinkled his nose faintly, and cocked on ear. He breathed in deep, barrel chest pulling on the smell.

Female, it said. Near. Nearly on top of him. His eyes slid in their sockets, peering into the nearby stand of sparse shrubbery and tree. No, too far. Ekundu's red tail flicked; his nails scraped on the stone as he lumbered to his feet. Head and tail up, he swung his attention slowly around, wadering to the edge of the rock, the part that hung over his evening den.

Ah.

Ary Keeyara
However, by the time he looked over the rock, she was no longer there. She scent was so strong, however, that she must have just left about a second or two ago. It was strange, for if she had left, you have have thought he would have heard SOMETHING. But then...she had been silent before he had discovered her as well, so perhaps it wasn't that strange.

But she hadn't gone far. Instead, she stood right beside him. If he was a jumpy wolf, she would sure give him quite the scare! However, she wasn't even trying to be sneaky. This, for her, was being quite open. She was...well...wanting her to see him? Something like that. It wasn't her way to just walk around like a normal wolf, it seemed. She didn't say a word either, not a hello, nothing to give him a clue she was there besides her scent and...well if he turned to look.

(( Do you have what he looks like? :O ))

Pukio
((Uh, lessee if he's on my photobucket...xD *on the wrong computer!*))

He cocked his head slightly to one side as he peered over the verge of the rock down into the hollow, empty space below. The strong smell was overpowering now that he was level with it, so much so he realized the shifting source of the smell only a moment before he turned his attention away from the hollow. His senses shuddered to a halt, lurching in on themselves and reversing back, searching out the origin and -- there.

Ekundu lifted his head, ears pricked, as he swung his bright green eyes back over his shoulder, peering blankly in the female wolf's direction. The male's curiously marked 'third eye' leered sightlessly at her, even as his normal ones took her features and build in, carefully attributing it to the smell; marking her appearance down with the tang of the air until one and the other had become the same thing at the back of his mind.

He didn't move save for a slight shift in his tail and a twitch in the ear, nails digging into the stone slab, the front pads of his feet firmly settled on the edge, and his broad head facing back to her. He waited, quietly, as if expectant of something more than her silent presence, whether it be a word of greeting or an action beyond that of rocky fortitude.

Ary Keeyara
(( :O Oooo, that smexy boyo! <3

Jes, Bane, if you guys wanna rp, I have Zede, Starla, and Kiba free. ))

Shanti watched him with her strangely piercing red orbs for a long while, not making a sound. It was almost as if she was drinking in information about him just by looking. Curious, this wolf was. A calm one, it seemed. That was good. She didn't dislike any type of wolf in particular, but jumpy ones were much harder to deal with.

After a long while, realizing that he, just like she, was waiting for something, she made a small move. The mask that had been clouding her eyes seemed to drop, purposely, to become the window to her emotions, since she had no speech. A friendly, but teasily quizical gaze was given to him as her ear gave a small, taunting flick.

Pukio
He straightened out slowly at the barrier across the she-wolf's features faded. He'd been waiting, though mostly for a possibly attack from a snap of the jaws or a rake of the nails. He hadn't been completely sure that this place had been rightfully empty for him to 'claim.' Even if it wasn't who was to say that another wolf, female or no, wouldn't fight for it when he came back? The weather in the night turned cold and bitter. A den like that was worth a bit of a scuffle.

But she didn't seem interested in that, so Ekundu straightened, carrying his haunches around so he didn't have to crook his neck at such a severe angle to peer in her direction. He arched his neck, insofar as his anatomy would allow, at the little flick of her ear, a vaguely amused light crossing the two green eyes. The third red one stared blankly ahead. Ekundu remained silent a few moments longer, head cocked lightly to one side, before he stuck his nose slightly out and inhaled deeply of her scent.

"Hello," he rumbled gently in formalized greeting, tone low and rocky, humming deep in the male's slab of a chest.

Ary Keeyara
Shanti was intregued. Maybe it was the males strange markings, or his mannerisms, but she really was interested to know more then her eyes and trained instincts could tell her.

At his hello, she dipped her maw in a small bow, or perhaps a nod, a smile curving upon her lips. Both ears pulled back to perk forward again when her head was lifted. She spoke no greeting, but apparently that had been a rather obvious one. Her tail moved about in a few swishing movements out of habbit, since her clan had always spoken with a code of body movements, but she had not truly meant to use it, for she had not for a long while.

Pukio
Ekundu seemed to take the motion as a greeting without question. There was a slight, curious tilt to one ear, but certainly no verbal inquiry or marked confusion passing across his broad features. He understood not speaking, if not entirely the cause. Why speak when smells and visions said more than could be articulated with yips and growls; where a twitch of the ear or a subtle lower of one shoulder could hum with volumes more distinct than the heavy handed 'yes' or 'no.' As it was, it took him time to speak: mulling over the words and syllables like communication was some art, of which speeching was a media he had not yet mastered, and therefore experimented with only by degree.

So he passed her silence, brushing over it as simply another brushstroke on the canvas, taking the image and proceeding forward with it. Unconsciously, he mimed the soft sway of the she-wolf's tail, waiting a moment longer before proceeding. Clearly, if she didn't intend to speak, then he could lapse comfortably back into wordless conversation of sorts. Introductions were overated, anyway. Names for things were just more words.

So instead Ekundu turned his attention momentarily away from the wolf, spanning the rough cut hilltop curiously before glancing quickly back to her as if asking whether or not she was alone. It certainly seemed that way...

Ary Keeyara
(( lol. xD Mind if I use my lovely Kiba then, Jes? ))

Shanti watched him for a moment. She had to hold down the excitement that was building within her. He did not question her silence...and he didn't press it either, by muddling the air with his words alone in an attempt to converse. Often this happened, making her feel as if she were writing and the other wolf was singing or something, both completely unrelated.

It had been so long since she had 'spoken' with someone without this struggle. Since the loss of her clan, she had felt very strange out in this world. But now, she felt like she was almost home again. She glanced out and then toward the ground, her ears flickering in a slight sadness and a breath emitting from her nose in a 'Yes'.

Pukio
((*head bopped!*))

Ekundu nodded in brief understanding, a flicker of 'ah, I thought so' casting its way briefly across the stark lines of his features. Had someone been there with her, he assumed they would be in sight. At the very least, their smell would have reflected the strength hers did. He shook his head slightly, the thick, brightly colored ruff of his neck shuddering with the moment. He too was alone; it was somewhat of an obvious notion, more likely than not, but he supposed he might as well offer the token of information, even if it wasn't verabally.

Besides, being alone wasn't so bad. Running with the pack presented protection and better chance of a meal, but there was something to be said about the life of a lone wolf. Besides, he was large enough to pull down a decent sized meal and enjoy the luxury of not having to share. That, and it was easier to find a winter home that could house one wolf rather than four or above.

He compelled the thought to her with a slight dash of amusement across his grin eyes, and the faintest flicker of a wolf grin to his maw. No, it wasn't so bad.

Ary Keeyara
No, it wasn't bad. In fact, she had spent very little time with her clan at all. It was the nature of her clan. They only gathered when being trained or in matters of importance. No, being alone was something she was breed to live with. However, it had been hard to live without a soul that could understand her. Even for one such as herself, that was extremely lonely.

At his motion and grin she closed her crimson orbs and smiled rather sweetly, her tail giving a swift, happy swish in agreement. Honestly, she wouldn't know how to live in a pack, so it had never crossed her mind to try. After this form of agreement, she tilted her head to the side, raising the fur above her eyes slightly and ing her jaws slightly, as though posing a question as to why one would want to live with a huge group of other wolves anyway.

Pukio
The he-wolf made a long, low noise -- more a loud exhale than an actualy vocalization. His shoulders came up and his head down slightly, his jaws parting slightly wider in a flash of amusement, tail wagging lightly. Agreed; too many wolves were overbearing. Perhaps one would be alright, but three, he noted with a decided flick of the ear and a roll of small, green eyes, was a bit crowded. Even two, he supposed, might be pushing it in some circumstance. Though, he could see the benefits in cold weather.

On that note, he shot the thin layer of snow surrounding their rock slab of an island a sidelong, narrow eyed glance, wrinkling his noise and sniffing absently at the cold blanket. Snow. It served him poorly. He supposed he somewhat resented the way he stood out like the sun against the gray sky moreso than the cold, but the temperature didn't help either. Ekundu's faintly amused expression was momentarily replaced by annoyance before it slicked off completely, the impassive features of the large male reinstalling across his eyes and jaw.

Ary Keeyara
Shanti's eyes narrowed slightly in laughter as she opened her jaw to let her tongue hang out. Oh, yes, it was quite silly to even think of so many wolves together for long! She didn't know how others did it. As his gaze wandered away, she followed it with her own, currently soft, one.

He didn't seem to like the snow. She didn't blame him. Snow could be troublesome. It left obvious traces of a wolf's movements and it was terribly cold. Very useless, the stuff was. Seeing some had drifted almost into the space under the over-hanging rock, she decided to do something about it. She wasn't sure why, since she had slept without it bothering her.

With a swift, almost untracable movement, she leaped gracefully over to the spot and knocked the snow away with a sweep of her tail, as though she had done it a million times. The intire process took only as long as it took to blink.

Pukio
He nearly missed the movement, catching it only because he felt the faint brush of a breeze stirred up as air filled the place where she had been a moment before. His attention stirred from the snow, catching sight of her heels as she jumped down. He watched with some mild interest as she swept away the snow with a neat switch of her tail. Ekundu's ears flicked forward and then drifted back again. Slowly, he worked to the edge of the stone slab, peering down toward the female with one ear cocked sideways in a questioning manner.

((Gwaaaah, short.))

Ary Keeyara
Shanti glanced up at him as he peeked over the edge. Seeing his questioning look, she glanced out at the snow and then back up at him with a confused and questioning look. She had thought he didn't like the snow...and that was, in a way, what she was asking.

Perhaps that was why she had gotten rid of it...because he didn't like it. It seemed strange, one trained to kill, would be concerned with the likes and dislikes of others, but that was just the way she was. She couldn't help it.

Pukio
Amusement streaked across the large male's face, as if entertained that the she-wolf would be concerned. Slowly, he moved closer to the edge, balancing awkwardly for a moment in a hunched up stance before he slid with a comfortably solid thump down to the lower level of earth. He brushed absently past her as he slid into the small space of the overhang. Putting his nose to the ground, Ekundu pushed away what little was left of the snow that had slid down into the den of sorts, joining in the homely activity of cleaning away the den. He'd joined her in silence, why not in somewhat silly activities? It was hours before the night, and this could have easily been done a few hours later but...--then again, he supposed now was just as decent a time to do a bit of house cleaning than later.

"You're a strange one," he murmured, tone low as if to keep from intruding on their long silence. Nonetheless, in the small space it sounded unecessarily loud in his ears.

Ary Keeyara
Shanti's ears flickered back, either at the sound or at the meaning of the words. She looked away, her smile becoming uncertain. Strange? There didn't seem to be anyone who didn't think so. It was...slightly depressing, she supposed, since she thought her behavoir was completely normal.

Perhaps she was imposing her company too much? Maybe he was tiring of this long time without speech, which she could not provide. Perhaps she should leave. She shifted the footing of her paws, looking out at the snow as she thought over these things, her white edged ears remaining near the fur on her skull.

Pukio
He glanced up slightly as he felt the air change. There was something different in the way the silence hung when the other wolf was amused and when she was not. Three eyes, two green, the other red and sightless, turned to the female and for a moment he felt a pang of uncertainty. He cocked his head to the side, questioning absently. He carefully lifted his nose away from the ground, watched her a moment as if considering sliding up to the female. Instead, he remained put, head still low in order to fit into the low space of the overhang.

"It's fine, quiet bird," he hummed briefly, the friendly nickname rolling uselessly forward simply, naturally. He spoke in slow tones, the words uncurling quietly from his ribcage and sliding like some rough thing through his teeth. "Words," he murmured absently, and then stopped, rolling one shoulder in an impassive, wolfish shrug as if to say they weren't important. He waited a moment longer before he slid forward out into the open, shaking himself out in the sun. He glanced back, one ear cocked. "I'm Ekundu; you simply spell strange." He paused a moment, fumbling for explination that wouldn't offend her.

"Quiet," he explained, briefly, as if 'quiet' was a smell that could be defined.

Ary Keeyara
Shanti slowed glanced up as he began to speak again. Again, he spoke in words rather then motions, which at first made her uneasyness stick. However, his words were soft, gentle in her ears, easy on her dislike of hearing verbal communication. Quiet bird? Memories swam absently about in her head. Her naming...she remembered it, for it was the only time she had heard her name spoken allowed. "Shanti" it had been. Shanti, meaning quiet. Her silence had been decided since birth, it seemed.

She relaxed as she watched him, as though the simple calling of her so close to what she actually was had calmed her. And, his wish to...well, comfort her seemed to tell her well enough that he didn't wish her gone just yet. After his last word, she gave a small wag of her tail as though to say it was alright now, she understood.

Pukio
Ekundu absently, unconsciously mimed the back and forth wag of the female's tail, his jaws gaping slightly in a grin. Good, his posture said. Good. Chuckling, the humm reverberating in his rib cage, he turned and moved out a few more paces into the snow, kicking absently at the smooth white blanket before diverting his attention to the trees. It smelled clean and fresh out here, but noisy. Everything smelled of something, something living and boisterous, loud unto it's nature, be it the creak of growing trees or the chatter of squirrels in its branches. She smelled quiet, though. Quiet, he thought, was the right word. It mingled in her smell and in her features, he supposed. Without thinking, the Quiet, too, become attributed to the thought of the female wolf at the back of his mind.

Absently, Ekundu flicked his tail, green eyes swimming back to the predominantly dark colored female. "It's warm, quiet bird; you should be in the sun," he noted absently, and then shifted his weight, meandering around through the snow back to the slab of rock, crawling back to the warm surface of it.

Ary Keeyara
Responding with ease to the beckoning, Shanti moved forward, he movements to light and careful by nature that they barely left a trace within the white and blue-shadowed snow. Ears perked forward, she moved to his side. She looked over at him, her eyes seemed to smile and she glanced out at the area around them, her mouth opening again, white air floating out in the chill from her breath. He was right, it was warmed out here...not that she minded a whole lot about the difference.

Pukio
Ekundu hesitated a few moments, peering out across the little hillside until, with a final sort of sigh, he flopped down across the span of the rock, putting his belly across the slightly warmed, flat surface in an attempt to soak up the offered heat between the rock and the sun overhead.

It was nice, he noted absently, to have a guest of sorts to chat with, even if the conversation was through flicks of ears and streaks of expression rather than real words. Trees and snow, most unfortunately, were not the best of conversationalists, silent 'words' or no.

Ary Keeyara
Shanti paused for a moment, keeping her gaze out at the snowy landscape thoughtfully before she turned to look at him. She blinked once, her ears flickering in a half-hearted musing before she walked over onto the rock. She settled herself to lay on the rock beside him in a smooth motion, he eyes smiling silently.

(( Blaaah, short. xP ))

Pukio
Ekundu shifted, worming against the warm rock and exhaling loudly. It was, indeed, a good day. Warm sunshine, a nice breeze, decent company for once (and one that knew how to keep silent, at that; many of the wolves in this forest were awfully...chatty); not a bad day at all.

Nestling his chin on his front paws, stretched across the slab with his tail hanging off into the snow, he cast her a sidelong glance. "Good to meet you, quiet bird," he noted absently, attention wandering back to the line of trees, as if it held something interesting rather than simply small game such as birds and squirrels.

Ary Keeyara
Shanti's tail wagged slightly, tumping quietly against the rock. A smile played across her maw once again and remained there as she shut her eyes, taking the warmth of the sun as well. Perhaps this meeting wouldn't last long, but she would always treasure it. Few had caught her friendship like this, so heartfully, but he had and she wouldn't forget it. She wouldn't forget the first to understand her silence.

Unknowly, she began to drift off into sleep. Unable to stop it, she was out after a few minutes, her expression left open and free. She truly trusted him, to fall asleep like this. Perhaps he couldn't know, but it was the biggest compliment she could give him.

(( I g2g. LOVED the rp to death, Pukio. We'll have to do it again sometime. <333 ))
