The blood pounded in her ears as a heavy-metal drum solo. Obsidian's thumbs found the soft space at her hyoid and kneaded the breath out of her: his skin as white as snow, his lips as red as blood, his eyes as green as gangrene. There was too much sound. If he shifted his hands her head soft-flopped from side to side. She refused to die with Charlie Boyle mad at her.

Sailor Nerissa's hands rose, wobbling, and he took no more notice of them than you would a fly buzzing. She refused to die with Charlie Boyle mad at her. She made words. They didn't come out intelligibly, just in dusty chokes, and for some reason he eased up with his thumbs. This was enough time for him to notice her trembling washing-machine-agitator fingers.

"What powers, you ask?" Garbdis was still bellowing. Fear pushed her fingers into his eyes, which closed automatically, his head jerking back as she added pressure to make them sink down deep. Nerissa's shoulders rose up from the ground as she forced him back, one eye now, the other gripping onto his hair as she held on with an immovable death grip. Her voice was a squeak through his chokehold. "How about the power of flight? That do anything for you?"

One hand pulled back and she smashed her palm into his nose, air-deprivation sparkles dancing in front of her eyes. It was actually amazing that she got his nose. She was amazing. Everything was amazing. She was going to die with Charlie Boyle still mad at her.

His eyes were throbbing now, red-rimmed from the force of her fingers though they never left the desperation that had flooded her face. She was struggling, forcing that spirit he'd first admired to come out in full force in order to save her own goddamn life. That was better, so much better than her scurrying about like a rat in search of a safe spot to hide.

His nose crunched under the force of her palm, and his grip slackened unconsciously as he jerked back, feeling the familiar gush of blood while he took a gritty breath through his teeth. Whatever retort had been on the tip of his tongue sizzled away in a momentary flare of temper, but she was up on her feet again. Winded as she was, he was disorientated now, shaking his head as though that would bring him to his senses before he lunged out at her again.

It was a dance, lined with the scrape of their feet and the sound of blows--and Obsidian was grimly realizing that for all the power he'd gained, Sailor Nerissa still outmatched him. No, no, that wasn't true, couldn't possibly be. It was the wounds from Kunzite, the sore spots, and somehow she kept picking them out and mercilessly hammering into them.

He'd ripped free some of her hair even as she'd slammed a vicious elbow into his side, and, wheezing, the redhead stumbled back, an arm curled protectively around his side as though to ward off any other blows. Still, his eyes glittered, and he had the gall to lift his free hand to crook his fingers tauntingly at her, blood streaming down his face.

He wasn't about to lose this against her.

He crooked his finger. She looked at him. He looked at her. She looked at him. He looked at her. With no grand fanfare, she took a great shuddery breath and -- sank into the floor.

Sailor Nerissa disappeared entirely. It was as though the panelling underneath their feet had suddenly been permeable and she'd dissolved down to the basement, arms and legs clamped together soldier-dive style as she sank through. It had happened nearly too fast for the eye to comprehend. Maybe she really had escaped, scurrying to a safe spot in some new magical senshi way now that she'd grown like he had into her new skin -- was gone in a flash of coral and blue, leaving the room eerily silent and empty when before it had been filled with their haggard breathing.

But it was a little like before: the time she had grasped his arms with a crazed look in her eye, and sunk them both into the concrete whirlpool she'd made right in the street. It was full of maybes. What was the better option?
