Ahnik followed her lead and took hold as well. He was naturally thin but not yet as thin as he might become as a full-fledged rogue, and he didn't have to be thick to have a fair amount of muscle on him. It made the process that much easier. He was, perhaps, more eager to fight and let go of some of his aggression than was but he was smarter than that. He might even feel better once he wasn't so damned hungry.
He released the prize when Ka did, partly because of the sudden extra weight on him. He took a seat as she got comfortable, staying close to it and licking the traces that remained from his teeth.
"I won't say no to that," he said, deciding waiting for her to say anything was polite enough and digging in.

She nodded, waiting for him to eat, not seeming really in any rush to take her turn. She was hungry, yes, but not so hungry that she couldn't share. She'd never really had any problems sharing with people she liked. It was just the fact that those people were few and far between. She wasn't really sure why she even liked Ahnik so much. He wasn't exactly that friendly towards her, though he wasn't that unkind either.
She pondered on it as he took his turn in eating. Perhaps it was because he was one of the first lions she had met once she had left her family. Perhaps it was because he chose to live his life the way he wanted to, despite what others might think. He spoke his mind, even if his words were scathing.
She tipped her head and the bangs of scruffy fur fell across her face.
"How long do yoos...do yoos think yoo'll wander fer?"

Ahnik ate his fill, but cautiously so- he wasn't sure he had full use of his judgment on food when he was this hungry but he certainly knew to share, he was from a pride after all. He chose when she started chatting again as a cue to stop, at least for a moment- or until she had her turn. Licking his lips he took a step back and sat down.
"I dunno," he admitted, his expression more neutral than usual, "Until I don't feel like it anymore, I guess. Or find something better." Wandering was better than before, for him and the pride he left, and he wouldn't stop until he found something else that was better. Which could mean he'd need to brush up on his hunting (or scavenging) skills.

She drew both ears up and let her eyes watch his face as he prepared to answer and nodded slightly at his response. It was good enough.
"Well, in tha' case, yoos min' if ah tag alon' with yoos?" Ka'ohu asked, seeming somewhat less confident than usual in asking that question. "I could show yoos all sorts of tricks tah make life easier in the wild lands, righ'?" She continued. "An' 'sides, ah been kinda lonely recently an we're friends, righ'?"
Were they friends? Probably more like aqquantainces, but Ka had never had one of those, either. Ahnik was probably the closest thing to a friend she'd ever had.
"An' maybe once yoos get used tah bein' out 'ere, then yoos might prefer it."

He hesitated when she asked if she could tag along with him, offering to show him some more tips and tricks for surviving well out here. Putting aside his minor annoyances with the lioness, it was an interesting offer as far as learning was concerned.. and he was a pride lion, no matter what he tried he would be better (happier?) with at least one other lion around. And, really, he was putting a little too much confidence in his abilities.
"I might," he agreed with her last statement first, pausing and then agreeing with the first, "OK, we can stick together for now." Committed but not, and he was OK with that.

His answer - even though it was said with a pause that others might have considered hesitation - was taken with great joy. She smiled and the smile reached her eyes.
"Tha's settled then. Ah'll help yoos, and yoos help me." She stood then, stretched a little and eyed the food. "Ah could do with the company, even bad company like yours, Ahnik." She hoped he would take it for the affectionate teasing she meant it as.
"Righ', seeing as yoos look about full, I'mma gonna take ma fill now, okay?" And she moved over to the carcass, picking at it carefully for a moment with her teeth. Then, when she'd settled on what she was going to eat, she flopped down onto her belly and nosed at the meal they had scavenged.
Who knew how long they would stick together, but it was already clear that it would not be a partnership made to last. They were both too different in their ways for that.

Were Ahnik a more playful type of lion, he would have shot right back at her about being bad company but if he said it, he would mean it and he didn't really mean it now so he said nothing. Instead he scowled, then made himself comfortable as she made herself comfortable and began to dig in.
There was nothing else to say and now there would be plenty of time to talk. And he was happier about that than he let on.
