Rivener blinked at the sudden words. Of all the things she could have said to him, calling him stupid? The reflexive snapping open of his wings threatened to yank Rivener clear off the moving train, and after a moment of flustering the Sigel managed to right himself, flattening the wings along his back. He glowered at the bandit, baring his teeth as a good enough substitute for wing-threatening.

"Stupid? STUPID? You're damned lucky this train's going so fast, lady, or you'd be taking your last breath right about now. Let's get something strait: I'm not your friend or colleague here, so I won't feel a twinge of hesitation to kill you after this job is over if you don't learn to keep your damned insults to yourself!" Rivener's voice carried well over the train's racket, yelling with rage as he was.

The NERVE! Rivener was going to demand a bonus tonight after this stupid Above-And-Beyond crap. And Rivener was also going to make it ******** clear he doesn't follow smug, arrogant bitches anywhere alone in the night, no matter WHAT the stakes are!

Ebony sighed and waited out the Sigel's little tantrum. She wasn't afraid of him actually doing something to her as she was half expecting it and thus prepared, but mostly because he would follow his boss's orders like the good little lackey he was. And his boss needed her still. So it was a bit pathetic and hurtful to see the Raevan reduced to such a level. He could be so much more.

"If you are quite done..." she replied calmly as she wrapped his ribbon tighter in her grip so he wouldn't go fluttering off like he'd almost did a moment prior. "The reason I say that is because I know exactly what you are and how you're not the age you pretend to be. You're basically a child playing grown-up games. Dangerous games."

Silver eyes reflecting the low lighting of the moon lifted up to meet Rivener's crimson gaze, her masked face holding the most serious of looks, yet also silently pleading for him to agree to what she was about to propose. "I suggest you get out and get out now. Before it's too late."

She knew what he was? This woman knew about Raevans? Rivener's eyes narrowed suspiciously. Perhaps that's where he knew her from... At one of the parties or events, maybe? Or...

As she leveled him that serious look, her gray eyes glinting in the moonlight, Riv gasped. She looked almost exactly like Cordelia. That hated, stupid Cordelia! And that would make this woman-...

"Ebony?" Rivener asked, raising an eyebrow and quirking his lips. If he guessed right, they'd reach a stalemate in this little argument. She'd be able to tell him what she thought, oh yes, but she couldn't go and report him to Aphi. Just like Riv wouldn't go and report HER to anyone. Like Delia, or Kyou, or even Aphi as well. "...I'm not a child. We age differently. Do you call a lion a child when it's a year old? No, it's an adult. And I'm grown up enough to have a job and make my own decisions, and I happen to LIKE this work. I know it's dangerous, and that is why I like it." The Scorpion glowered at his forced companion, watching her still for any sign of a reaction to having called that name...

"You're not an adult. she smirked, side stepping his question of whom she was. Did he really think she'd gladly give up the charade, just like that? This mask, her guise, it was all to protect her true identity. Or was it the other way around? Was her mask the identity of Ebony Shade and the mantle of the Bandit her true self? The thief shook her head. This was no time for her to have a crisis of person, she had a mission! And not just for Felix. "Or at least, not yet. Though I will give you the benefit of not being a child, but of a teenager. And as such, you are still of the naive nature of thinking you know everything. The things you do now, for Felix or otherwise, you may regret later once you do become an adult."

She became very quiet then, finally breaking eye contact with the floating youth. Ebony almost felt she needed to say more, to tell him how she truly felt about the secret double life she lived. How she cried herself to sleep some nights as the years of guilt had begun to weigh heavily upon her soul. How the loneliness had practically devoured her and kept her from being too close to others, too afraid of what would become of them should her other life leak over. How she feared now for those that were close to her, like her dear Cordelia. How, how could she explain without giving him any doubt of whom she really was?

"You could do so much better with your life..." she whispered as the train speed its way straight for Aekea. They weren't quite there yet, but Durem was well behind them now, the landscape breathing a full breathe as it was released from the congestion of the city.

She hadn't answered. She'd barely reacted at all, really. It didn't matter: Rivener would know. He'd listen to the stars later (it was much too loud here anyway) and he'd figure it out.

For now though, he snorted with laughter, grinning lopsidedly at his train-top friend. "Funny. I should be taking career advice from a professional thief? Alright, I'll bite: What is it exactly that I SHOULD be doing, hm? What would be "so much better" that I could do with my life? Should I be a real-estate salesman? A lawyer? ******** Mayor of Gambino? Hah! Think what you want about me being a teenager or whatever, but this life suits me. The night, the violence, the money! ...What is there MORE than that? Please, inform me!" He smirked, lifting a hand in a "come on" gesture, inviting his lecturing companion to offer her insight.

"Your family." She hadn't turned back to face him nor had she hesitated in her answer. It was simple as that. Rivener's family was absolutely more than any of that or any of it even combined. It was something precious that not everyone got and that some would do anything to get. Ebony had often found herself somewhat jealous of the Delarans. Because to her, they were truly rich and none of her stolen wealth could compare to it. This she was absolute about because she'd had a taste of it once before, but ironically it had been stolen right out from under her. And now, the woman desperately tried to replace what she'd had, only to come up short every time.

A single tear escaped her steeled eyes as they inched along the railway. Her father had been bound by this life, as she too was now in his memory, unable to break free of the greed, the money, the rush. In the end, he paid with his very life and lost everything, meanwhile dooming his adopted child to the same fate. Would she end up doing the same? "You think you can protect them forever? Everyone knows exactly who you are. They'll know how to find those that are closest to you and they won't be against hurting them to get to you. Would you sacrifice them for all that?"

Rivener scowled. What did his family have to do with any of this? The woman paused after saying that one single thing, waiting for dramatic purposes before going on to state that anyone could find out where Riv's family was.

"I'm not doing this to protect them. And no one's coming after me. There's nothing to worry about. Jeez, you make it all sound so melodramatic. Life isn't like the movies, woman. There's no Hero coming to find me, and if there WAS a Hero he'd be coming for Felix, not I." The Scorpion sighed, glancing aside with an annoyed frown. He was growing tired of this conversation. "I do love my family, and I'm not stupid, I GET what you're saying. But still, it remains that I need to have a job. I don't want to spend my life lazing around my house being a burden. And THIS is still the life I'm best suited for. So all due respect, Ebs, but mind your own business."

Of course the Sigel still didn't know if it truly was Ebony he was speaking with, but he decided to play the gamble and see if she'd slip up. Besides, the stars would tell him later.

The woman sighed. He still didn't understand. 'Young, cocky and stupid.' she thought. Rivener didn't realize what enemies he'd created without even meeting or doing anything directly to them. Just by being Felix's bodyguard was enough to give them reason to find a way to take him down. They would use any means necessary and that did not exclude his family.

"Fine." Ebony snapped, effectively ending the uncomfortable conversation and taking back up her closed off, hard edged, professionalism. Letting go of his ribbon now so he was free to fly away or whatever he chose, "We're only a few minutes out of Aekea now anyway. Just keep out of my way Scorpio and the sooner we can say goodbye."

Again, there had been no reaction to his use of the name. With a sigh the Sigel gave up trying to get this woman to give some sort of hint as to her identity. He'd find out sooner or later, in his own way... Not that it even really mattered, it was just on principle now. He didn't like his questions being unanswered.

"Hmph!" Was all he answered to her taunt that she'd not want him to get in her way. "I had no plans to be anywhere NEAR you while you pull this off. Being done with this soon is fine by me!"

The rest of the short distance to Aekea was spent in silence save for the rumbling of the train. Once the cars began to slow, Rivener tugged his ribbon free of the Bandit's hold and spread his wings, taking to the skies and following along until the thief would jump off. She'd lead the way, he would follow.
