"Oh I just love all of Johnny Depp's movies. Though I do think I prefer Chocolat or Pirates over the demon barber of Fleet Street."
In truth, Ursula Killingworth had a painfully limited exposure to Broadway, musicals, and the theater in general. At least, the kind of theater that lacked sticky floors and giant buckets of popcorn.
The food was quickly finished off and the plates were removed from their presence. Drink refills came first and then dessert, along with their request for two small plates to divvy the food onto. Having moved on to using a fork herself, the metal utensil waved in the air as she continued, "Yes, a former school I taught at. It... didn't work out, sadly, but I have some especially fond memories of the place."
Dead students, zombie students, giant black magic domes...
She returned to the sweetness of the mango dessert, limiting her conversation when it came to Barren Pines. For a woman who enjoyed talking nearly as much as anything else (barring conversations about herself, Khalid and looking beautiful), there were some things better left unsaid.

Ray smiled at her, though in the back of his head he was already sorting her as the sort of person who associates Sweeney Todd more with Tim Burton than Stephen Sondheim. It wasn't damning for him. There were theater people and there were not-theater people. Ursula Killingworth was a not-theater person, thus, this was understandable -- Stephanie would have found it deeply unforgivable. Even Gene, he decided, would have found it terminally uncool, which was unforgivable. But Steph and Gene weren't here right now, were they?
"I've never seen Chocolat," he said as he helped himself assiduously to mango-and-sticky-rice. "It always seemed like a movie that could've been titled If You Are A Woman You Will Enjoy This Film. But that might've just been the marketing. Pirates, on the other hand," Ray settled back in his chair, "ah, Pirates. Who doesn't love Pirates? The movie that ruined any British accent Mr. Depp tried to do thereafter. Still, it's Pirates. The more I say that word the less I think of the film and more of the incredibly high-budget porn film parodying it." He downed more of his water. "Do you know they have that thing for rent at Video Buster? The times, they are a-changin'."

"Do they really now?" She couldn't help but laugh, "They'll do anything to make a bit of money these days, won't they?"
Her fork stabbed into the last bit of mango on her plate, the succulent fruit leaving a sweet aftertaste in her mouth. More water, a napkin dab or two and several more minutes of polite conversation was all that it took for the duo to finish up their meals. Which she found sad, really. It had been so terribly long since she'd had someone to talk to like this. Had she dropped Johnny Depp's name in a conversation with Drew or Khalid, both men would have simply given her exasperated looks. She liked having someone to chat with, especially when that someone was, god bless him, over eighteen. So, when the bill arrived and both pulled out their wallets, she decided to go for it, potentially awkward moment be damned.
"I'm afraid I'm not very hip and up to date with today's social taboos, so you'll have to forgive me." Digging into her purse, she somehow managed to find her cell phone among all the clutter, "But would it be wrong of me to ask for your number? You know, on the off chance of being stood-up again. You make a delightful stand-in when one is stood-up and I'm afraid those are terribly hard to come by these days."

Ursula Killingworth looked fresh out of college. Ray sincerely doubted she was out-of-date with anything in particular. Still, he flagged the server down for the check and said, "(555) 678-5066 is my cell. Appreciate your asking, by the way: it's extraordinarily less awkward coming from you than from me." He dug his own cell phone out of his pocket and checked briefly for missed calls: none, conspicuously none from Steph. Damn. "You being a bright young thing newly wed, me being a bachelor of modest means and ill repute." He winked again at 'ill repute' -- like it was a little inside joke he was letting her in on, like it was something a good ol' clean-cut boy like himself could only say with the deepest irony. There was no business like show business.
"Got that? All right, gimme a call," he said, leaning back in his seat, "and I'll have your number and can say you called me back on the first day. Everybody wins! Yes, I'd like change, please -- thank you."

Numbers were punched in and the bills were paid, Ursula dutifully leaving the girl her customary twenty percent tip.
"It was nice to meet you, Ray - perhaps we can do something like this again, some time. You know, on more planned terms."
Rising from her chair, she offered him a smile before slinging her purse over one shoulder, "Maybe then you can meet Megatron."
She paused.
"Well, on second thought, maybe meeting Megatron is a bit too life-threatening this soon."
Meeting a man such as Gunn Killingworth was never anyone's cup of tea. And Ursula liked Ray Gordon. Therefore, it made perfectly logical sense to keep Ray Gordon as far far away from Gunn Killingworth as humanly possible, at least for the time being.
A casual wave sent her on her way and out the door, the young secretary now moving on to debate on whether or not she was nice enough to pick up something for her no-show husband to eat for lunch.
