Teykali accepted the two-legger's stroking with aplomb, butting his head against her hand in a gesture of friendliness. She smelled nice, but there was an even better smell coming from a bowl a few yards away.
Teykali was ravenous after the fight, and eagerly followed the mare to the bowl of apples. Apples were a rare treat, he had only had one or two in his life. At this rate the foal would not have been in the least surprised if Zeda had sprouted wings and suddenly ascended to Heaven. Good things seemed to happen wherever she was.
He still limped slightly, but the pain in his leg was nearly forgotten as he sunk his teeth into one of the crisp fruits. It was even more delicious when he was hungry! A little shiver of delight tingled down his spine at the tart taste in his mouth. This was heaven.
His mouth full of fruit, the colt remembered a question that had been lost in the joy of seeing apples. "Zeda, why does your mate leave you? Why doesn't he stay to protect you, the way that you protect your family?"

"Because even though my mate loves me, he loves these lands more. If I asked him to stay with me a part of him would die. Sometimes you have to do things that make you sad to make someone you love happy. However when I do see him, I appreciate it more. Some people see there mates every day and it becomes usual, however me and Heha, every day we spend together is like the first day I ever met him, however his long absences do not really help me in my mission to carry his foals." She smiled down at the little foal, he seemed hungry, she was not surprised. She skimmed the land for the Usida, however he did not seem to be home at all.
Her two legger laughed at the little foal, noticing his limp as he walked. She wondered over to him and knelled down by his side stroking along his back before she took a look at his leg. She wondered back into her teepee for a while before bringing out a bowl with some water and cloth in. Sitting down once more she started to stroke his leg with it, to get it clean. The apples if anything were a distraction.
"I hope I am not going to cause your mother too much worry by bringing you here. I wont keep you for much longer, we can start your training tomorrow when she knows were you are." She had not thought about this till she mentioned her own dreams of foals. Zeda would be worried sick if any of her wondered from her sights, she was so used to be on her own as a foal the thought that he had someone waiting for him at home completely slipped her mind.

Completely focused on both the apples, and Zeda's voice, Teykali hardly noticed the two-legger as she attended his leg. The cool water felt good on the cut, though the bruise beneath tingled.
He didn't understand why someone would want to leave their family behind for any reason, but heard the warmth in Zeda's voice as she spoke of her mate. She must have a good reason to wait alone for Heha.
When she mentioned his mother, the foal paused, with a large chunk of apple in his mouth. "Yesh, she wantsh meff to alshways comfe back 'fore mmphfall," he replied, finishing the apple and swallowing. "As long as it's still light she said we can explore."
"But I would like to start training tomorrow," he nodded. Now that he thought about it, he was feeling tired from his adventures today. Having eaten three apples, he was starting to feel a bit sleepy.

The lady wrapped cloth around the foals back leg trying it in a knot after it was clean, so no dirt would get into the healing cut, as soon as she was done and gave the foal another stroke a crying noise came from her hut, getting up she headed over only to appear a few moments later with a bundle of blankets in her arms.
Zeda looked down at the foal and nodded. "Very well then have your fill and I will take you back home." She stated looking over at her owner tilting her head before she put her head back in her bowl, however this time drinking some water that was at the other end. She smiled at the foal, he was so little and so innocent, he was a lovely foal and one day when she had children they hoped they would behave like him, his mother must have known what she was doing, as she thought it impossible to get a result like him from your first pregnancy.
Maybe she could ask her some questions, however she would not be surprised if the mare thought something was up. A strange mare hanging around with her foal, maybe she would even think Zeda was steal him, so she would not be surprised if this was there only meeting. However she hoped it not to be.

Drinking some water as well, Teykali gave a contented sigh. He had never eaten so many apples, and now he was full and sleepy. The foal stifled a yawn, shaking his mane out and stretching. As the two-legger finished wrapping his wound, he twisted his head around with vague interest. He wasn't sure how he felt about having a piece of two-legger skin on him, but the light pressure of the bandage helped relieve some of the pain, and he soon forgot about it.
"I think I'm ready to go now," Teykali said, a little bit of the youthful energy gone from his voice. He stared curiously as the two-legger went into her teepee and returned moments later with what appeared to be her baby. He could smell the young two-legger smell, but all he could see was a pile of rustling blankets. He supposed that since two-leggers were soft and fragile, a basket might be too hard for their young to sleep in.
He would have to ask Zeda more about the baby two-legger at a later time though, since dusk was fast approaching. His parents were not overly watchful, but he knew his siblings would start to worry if he didn't return soon.

"Okay then, lead the way, I will follow." She stated looking down at him, her voice was always calm, that of a teacher trying to get a point across, she had developed her mum voice early, probably because of that damn goat that that she had to look after. She did love Koda she really did, however his personality was totally different to hers, more so he believed love conquered all. She believed everyone could be conquered by love. It was not always a good thing, compassion was something you could not have, sometimes with certain soquili, the last thing you can do is try and give the hand of friendship, false hope was a road to a quick death.
She walked slowly next to the foal, her mind not really on anything but the path ahead, night coming in. She did nit mind walking home in the dark, it shadowed dangers, however Zeda was one of those soquili who are blessed with a black coat. Who could use the shadows as a cloak to hide them from the darkness who used them to prey. "You know, I could learn a lot from your mother, she must have done her job very well." She smiled down at him, meaning it in the sense that Teykali would be Zeda's dream child. However she was used to by now not getting what she wanted, so she was not going to hold her breathe, what happened happened. You could only make the best of it... or keep tackling a situation until it changed. However that also was not always for the better.

"I love my family," Teykali replied, not quite sure what she meant. "Mostly I spend time with my brothers and sister though, 'cause my parents are gone a lot." He then lapsed into silence, not so much lost in thought, as tired and ready for sleep.
He led Zeda through a winding path that curved past trees and bushes, deeper into the forest. His tiny hooves were surefooted here; he knew this path very well.
Finally, they came upon a small clearing in the forest. None of his family was in sight, but this didn't seem to worry the foal.
"This is my home," he informed Zeda. He puffed out his chest just slightly, proud of the little bit of land. The trees were beautiful and strong here, and there was always an abundance of flowers in spring and summertime, since half his family were flutters. Nearby, a clear stream burbled. The water was sweet and cold, and it led to a larger pool somewhat further away, full of interesting things like frogs and small fish.

Zeda looked at the foal and smiled. "Well if you ever need someone, if you are in trouble and your parents are not home, you know were I live and I will be there when ever you need me, if you come and I am not there. Run to the main lake in the valley. Thats were my herd lives and if you tell them you know me any one of them will help you or your sister." She smiled looking down at the little one, this little guy had pretty much raised himself? her heart sunk. She was in the situation herself. However she was not strong enough to stay pure. She gave up when he was such a fighter even if he did not know it.
Zeda looked around the home the foal was so proud of. Smiling she could tell he was proud of it. "Its lovely." She stated, she liked all the flowers, they really were pretty. It looked like a lovely place to live. She thought for a moment and smiled walking and laying amongst the flowers. "Come here, fall asleep by my side, I shall stay until someone comes." She smiled. Even though he did not seem surprised he was on his own, she did not want to leave him in the open at night. So she would stay here if she had to.

Yawning, the exhausted foal stumbled towards Zeda without hesitation. Now that he was home, he felt even more tired, and the familiar scents and sounds were like a warm blanket, coaxing him to slumber.
"You don't have to stay," Teykali said hesitantly, clearly wanting her to stay, but also amazed that his new friend seemed in no hurry to return home. He was glad for her company, and hadn't realized until now how sad he had been at the thought of her leaving.
He snuggled up against the dark mare, comforted by the sound of her strong and steady heartbeat. Usually he slept at his sister's side, or with one of his brothers. He had never slept beside an adult mare, and it was wonderful. If he had known the word, he might have described it as a "maternal" comfort. The feeling of being safe and loved by an adult female.
He knew that his mother cared for him, and he loved her as well, but she was gone so often that they rarely shared any sort of lingering moment together. As his thoughts drifted further into the realm of sleep, his breathing became even and slow, and he finally succumbed to his dreams.

Zeda looked down at him, ignoring his last statement, seeing him warm up to her she leant down and nuzzled his head pushing it down to the floor gently as she did before resting hers next to his. "Good night Teykali." She whispered before she closed her crimson eyes. It made her heart ache. She loved this and it just made her crave her own foals some more. Why could she not get pregnant? she had bee trying and trying for months and months coming onto years. Yet the spirits just did not think it was time for her to be a mother. She smiled and dreamt of her own children. The night was coming in. The stars stared to appear in the sky, the clouds stroking the moon. This was a wonderful place, something beautiful, flutter homes usually were, Zeda has a peaceful night sleep, not something she usually had, her insomnia usually kept her up all night, leaving her in a grumpy mood in the morning, however with the little foal by her side, she rested undisturbed through her whole night.
Morning was here before you knew it, the light started to beam in through the trees, the pollen stroking the light and sparkling like little floating raindrops. Zeda was layed where she had landed the night before. Feeling the warm light on her black coat. Her mane was all over her face, the wind last night must have blown it around whilst she was slumbering, she felt something tickle her nose, a blade of grass was being a pest, irritating her nostrils until she let out a sneeze, her eyes opening slightly, her crimson orbs watching as her vision went from blurred to focused. Letting out a small yawn with her head still on the ground.

Teykali felt that small shift of consciousness when Zeda woke beside him. He opened his eyes and immediately raised his head, blinking blearily at the small clearing that was his home. He twitched in surprise as he realized that the large, warm body beside him was not one of his brothers, but Zeda!
Happily, the foal twisted his head around, huffing softly against Zeda's neck. "Wake up, Zeda!" he called, excitement in his voice. How nice it was that she was still here. He couldn't wait to begin his training. The sun was about an hour past its rising, and warm light filtered through the trees. The scent of the misty flowers was a comforting familiarity.
Standing, he glanced around the empty clearing. He could smell that his brothers and sister had been here during the night. Probably they had woken before him, and were now off on their own adventures. It was a bit strange to wake with them gone, but they had probably seen Zeda and known that he would be fine on his own.
Before Zeda had time to respond, he nudged her again with his little head, butting against her shoulder.
"Zeda, it's time to begin my training!" he announced enthusiastically, prancing back and forth. A full night's rest and the prospect of such a fun new activity gave the foal an abundance of energy, something that usually annoyed his older brothers.
