Shen Hu gazed down at his reflection in the calm water surface, watching the koi form small ripples across the pond. "I'd like that," he said, giving Rosemallow one of his rare smiles. "It's very relaxing here..." he trailed off, looking into the water again.
After a few moments, he looked back up at her again. "Rosemallow," he said softly. "Do you want to speak to Ji'an?"

As she smiled in return to the other's friendly gesture, Rosemallow decided that she quite liked this gladier's smile...
Still, she couldn't help but shiver when he said her name. Surely this wasn't a normal occurrence? Peering at him from her reclining position curiously, she idly wondered what she was supposed to do with the lantern. It couldn't hurt to ask. "S-sure?" Her initial response to everything was a resounding yes. "Shen Hu... what should I say to it?"

"Whatever comes to your mind. Just think about it, and your minds will automatically connect." Shen Hu backed up a little to allow them both a little more breathing space and not to intimidate Rose too much. On the water, the lantern bobbed up and down a little, as if eagerly anticipating a new comrade.
"Go on," he urged softly. "It won't bite," he added with a wry smile.

Rose figured she could roll with the punches - the gladier was more curious than she was any other emotion. Peering at the lantern, which now seemed to be animated with some sort of consciousness, she let her thoughts wander. It came as a surprise when she found that she thought of Shen Hu, and even more of a surprise when she perceived a response from the lantern.
After a few moments of this telepathic conversation, Rosemallow looked to Shen Hu with wide eyes. She now understood why he seemed to be so protective of it. "That was... amazing," were the few grateful words she could utter. The cetus was more than a little bit awed.

Shen Hu merely dipped his head in acceptance, and stared back down into the pond. "I thought so too, the first time," he stated almost casually. Now that all the introductions had been made, he wasn't entirely sure which direction they should head in. He decided to keep any conversation they had on lighter topics, so he prompted her with an easy question. "Do you have any family?"
