He barked in the way a wild dog would before letting out a howl. He knew it would draw attention to both of them but if there were others around they would reply, right? No, no one replied. He turned to his cousin, "Come on we better leave in case any lions heard." He smiled looking back into the water, no danger, yet. He jumped into the water and swam across the water.

He crawled out the other side and turned, "Come on!" His tail was wagging, at last they could go on a search and find more to be in the long lost pack. He waited for her to cross, sitting down with a smile on his face. "Where would you like to go, Alpha Haiji?" He laughed a little and turned to look at the deserted lands. So strange, no one was around.

Haiji perked up her ears at his howl, even though she knew it was him who made it. Hopefully that would draw some attention from other wild dogs... but just as she suspected, there was no reply. Nope, non around here. They would have to travel further to find any others.

He was right about attracting lions though and after checking the water for any sign of other water-dwellers in there, she trotted in and swam across. On the other side she shook herself off and let the sun take care of the rest of the moisture. Besides, it would help keep her cool for a while.

"I know a few tricks to keep away from lions." She replied. "But we won't find any other dogs just standing around here. Huh? Alpha Haiji?" The rich brown, black and white dog looked at her new pack-brother. "Oh... you said my mother was older.... that would make me...?" A slow smile grew on her face as the young juve imagined what now lay before her when she aged enough.

"Yeah... Well! I think following the river might be a good idea. If any dogs are thirsty they will come to it right? And I spoke to one lion... from a distance. He said if there were any other wild dogs around still they would be on the edges of territories. Oh and he said there weren't any in the Firekin's or in the graveyard so we don't have to bother with those places."

(( Hey, shall we ask if any others want to join? To meet up with Dhati and Haiji? We could do a bit of a time-jump too. Say a couple of days? Just so they don't find another wild dog straight away ot just the next day or something. Whatcha think? ))

((yeah sounds good!))

Dhati listened to what she was saying and smiled. "You lead the way!" He laughed making it as obvious as he can that if she was going to be an alpha she had to make all the decisions. "I guess you like hunting and stuff, otherwise you are going to have to find yourself a mate. Someone who can like, well, do all the bits girls dont like!" He chuckled again making sure that she knew what would cmoe if she were to be leading. He was sure he was a little older then her but that was to be determined at a later point. For now he would get her thinking of what hard work it would be leading a pack f dogs.

Haiji smirked. "Fine. I will!" And she trotted past him, just enough to be slightly ahead, and then slowed to a less tiring pace. Not that wild dogs got tired easily, in fact they were reknown for being indefatigable. But they might have a long way to go before they found any other dogs.

"And hunting's ok. I can do that. You just chase them till they're too tired to fight back." She nodded. "That was the way I was taught. I used to help mum bring down larger stuff..." She paused, thinking of how her mother was killed. If she had been there to help her... help take down that beast, then she'd still be here....

Shaking off her grim look she went back to the other topic. "Ha! Find a mate? Well, of course anyone who wants to be my mate will have to be strong. Gotta be able to help with the pack. And have strong pups to carry on the line." She grinned again. "But I can handle myself and I don't need a mate right now." She pulled a face and stuck out her tongue. "Huh, you don't think I'm up to it?"

"I never said that. I was just wondering if you will be able to handle a pack on your own. With all the dogs trying to push you out the way, attempting to steal your role." He followed her a smile on his face, he wasn't being horrible, just repeating what his father had told his family once before. "To create a pack from rouges is dangerous, unless you have pups quick and find a mate, who ishn't just after the position of alpha, you have the problem of the dogs that will attempt to erm.. yeah.. rouges can be power hungry." He licked his lips as he continued to follow, "I just want to make sure you know what you are taking on, that is all, and if you would like any help?" He liked the idea of helping his cousin, she seemed to innocent to do this kind of thing but then again he didn't really know her, they had just met themselves.

The female flicked her ears back. "Steal my role? But you said... I'm the heir? Chezaji was older than your dad so then she was heir and now I'm her daughter so I'm in charge." She nodded to herself. Made sense to her... but then, getting other dogs to join them might be harder with her still so young.

She looked back over her shoulder as they walked. He seemed a bit older than her. A bit bigger too at least but that could just be because he was a male. "Oh I dunno... I haven't met any rogues yet. Rogue dogs at least. Anyway, I'd pick a mate carefully. I'd make sure they weren't just after the position."

She paused in her speech to think. "Well you seem to know all about it, what packs are like and what the Hamaji were like. You could help me out. You are my cousin after all. Yeah... like.. honorary alpha or something. Just until I'm bigger and find a mate worthy of the position. Whatcha think?"

He smiled while he listened to her and as she said what he wanted to hear te smile grew quite a bit wider. "Sounds good to me. Leaves me to fight off the big mean lions!" He chuckled a little before thinking over her getting a mate. They would have to pass his tests to become her mate. He didn't want anyone just "loving" her because of her role and history. He would see to it that things like that don't happen.

Haiji's mind, however, wasn't really on the subject of mates. That would be a long time yet. And while she knew it would be practically impossible to continue a pack without further heirs, male dogs weren't a pressing matter right now. Restoring the pack was.

She slowed her pace so that she could walk closer in line with Dhati, keeping just a head's length in front.
"Fight off lions huh? Well you can. But I think I'd rather another tatic, at least while there's just the two of us." She replied. "But you can do the other stuff... like lead the hunting and having a say about where we'd go. Because I want to travel. Like the Hamaji did. Don't stay too long in one place... see all the different places there are to see!"

He laughed, "Oh but miss, I have to protect you!" He was being quite obviously sarcastic and laughed afterwards pushing her slightly with his head, "Lighten up cous!" He smiled and winked at her, "We will bring them back together, but while we search, be your age, no growing up to quick, you will only regret it when your older if you do!" He laughed again and moved into a very playful stance. He was youngish and he was still playful!

"Protect me?" She lifted her head and laughed, giving him a funny look at his joke. "Ha! Need to learn to protect yourself then!" She darted at him, snapping playfully in the direction of one of his forelegs. But she was careful to let the n** close on air just near his leg than to actually bite him. He had a point and she hadn't played since she'd been alone.

After her feigned 'attack' she ran off up ahead until she came to a point where the river ran very wide but very shallow over a particularly rocky area of ground (so only a couple of inches deep). She lept and skipped into the water, kicking up spray and turning to see if he was following.

He laughed backing off as she was about to bite him adn then ran after her as she darted off. It was good to be able to play again, he hadn't done so since he had left his siblings and he missed it. She was as good a s a sister to him, a cousin, sister, not that much difference! He barked playfully at her as he ran into the water barking a little more at her, just a warning to say that he was behind her ready to get her!

Any fear of lions finding them with all this noise was lost for the time being. This was actually fun. Fun and a relief not to think on where to go to next, or what to eat or where to sleep safely. Someone else was with her once again and it was like a huge weight off her shoulders.

She growled playfully back at him, yapping a couple of laughs and then kicking up more water with her paws. "Haha! Catch me if you can!" She yiped and moved to run in a circle around him.

He laughed and playfully growled at her as he chased after her, playfully snapping at her back legs and tail. "Come on you can go faster then this!" He laughed and continued to run after her, barking playfully.

Spurred on by his taunts and nipping muzzle, Haiji put her head down and dashed as fast as she could. She sprinted to the other side of the river, across the shallow area of water and then along the bank. Her long fit legs galloped and carried her fast and after a moment she turned to look back for him.

"How was that huh?" She queried. "I can go pretty fast! Not as fast as a cheetah mind you, but for much longer. I feel like I could run all morning!" The female slowed and bounced on her back paws, showing off but also in joy.

"You are pretty fun. Is this what it's like to have siblings? I never had any. Did you play with your's much? Before you went searching."

((Er, jumping in on the RP, as invited! ^^ I decided not to worry about Ujuzi being pregnant right away, and rather, maybe she can be later once things are more definite. @_@))

Further ahead down the river, a patchwork female loped along at a slow pace. She heard the howls, but did not know the voices, and so saw no reason to respond. They were not of her family, they were not of aquaintance, so what good could come of answering their call?

To say that Ujuzi was different than most wilddogs was an understatement. She was a loner and for the most part had come to accept this lot in life. She had always been different, the only female in her parents third litter, and in a litter of mostly boys. She came up fighting for her space, not liking to roughhouse like her brothers. The more boisterous they were the more withdrawn from the group she felt, and that was fine by her. She enjoyed her solitude.

Leaving her family had been unplesant, but far outweighed the consequences and shame that staying would have brought. Her past would always haunt her, but maybe if she put enough distance, enough steps between home and the past...

The sounds of splashing shook Ujuzi out of her laughter. Bringing her attention back into focus she saw a younger wild dog racing along the opposite side of the river, towards her. There was another behind her, male by the smell of it. This put Ujuzi on edge, and her entire body tensed in silent guard as she drew closer to where they stood (from her side of the river, at least).

Her pawfalls neither haulted nor slowed, and though she was curious, she did not look their way but once, just to acknowledge that she knew they were there, and she was not afraid of them. After that glance she continued on her way, eyes ahead again.

((D: bleh, my timing is awful. I have to go to work now so if you guys are continuing XD;;; JUSTIGNOREthatpostKTHXBAI! biggrin ;; --or I'll reply when I get home. @__@))
