So the only thing we have to write about is daily activities?
:/

Kinda boring, unless there's a prompt or something extra I'm not seeing.

I'm asking you to make a story that majorly involves something every day, yes. But the whole point of the competition is to make it NOT boring. You don't have to use the every day activitiy in a normal way, you can make looking in the mirror or putting makeup on something. You could def make a short story out of someone's thought proccess while putting makeup on, after all, it's deep down a strange concept isn't it? Painting ourselvs. It's pretty tribal ultimately.
Okay, that was a tangent, but you get the point right? I mean, you could use the every day thing to spark memories in someone, or make the activity drive someone mad, like waiting at the stoplight, someone finally snaps and cant stand the monotony of life and how everyone, in their eyes, is a lemming.
It's not an easy task on purpose. It's desgined to test your skills as a writer and pit you against other writers. If you usually write something much more fanciful with magic and crazy stuff going on, then this will put you out of your comfort zone and that's, in my opinon, a good thing.

Not necessarily fanciful or magical, or whatever, but usually when writing, I try to stray from monotony and skip over every-day activities.

But, I see your point: to challenge those of us who've never really looked at the mirror so deeply.

edit:
I know you said no more than 5 pages double-spaced TNR, but I suppose that is on Microsoft Word? I, unfortunately, have Microsoft Works, a more complicated version, that may not open from an attachment; also, what about the people with Macs?

I guess we can type it up and just copy it into the e-mail. Would that be a viable option?

That's certainly fine. I'm sorry I forgot to take that into account, it was a pretty big oversight on my part. You can do whatever it is you need to to send it in.

I'm unfamiliar with Microsoft Works and how it works, but again, as long as you do what you can to follow the rules as closely as you're able with what you have, I'm completely fine with whatever you produce.

Hmm, it sounds compelling, Im already coming up with some ideas, ill toy with them later but I want to know: Do we send it to your mule acocunt (when its created) in PM form? Or will the mule have a link to its own email account on its profile page or something?

(Im completely confused to that part, wouldnt it be easier to send it via PM? Since the contest is on this site and not an email account, and maybe having a text limit will help people keep it a short story...)

Since everyone feels it'll be easier through PM, I've changed it to that. I think it makes things much easier.

Are we allowed to submit several stories? I understand that that would be a lot of reading, but I have to ask. :3

You can send as many as you want as long as their combined length doesn't exceed five pages. If there aren't may submissions later on, I'll increase this.

Red Queenie: A Good short story, with plenty of drama. Your writing style is good, but it feels a bit too shoujo for my taste, and doesn't sound like an everyday occurence. With that creative attitude, you'd make a very good RPer.

Funky_monk: Very good. A tad longer than the other entries, but your use of descriptive language is exceptional. Would recommend some proof-reading, but definitely the one that sticks to the brief of 'everyday occurence' the most.

Zetsubou: An excellent yarn. Short, compelling and interesting, just what I am looking for. Unfortunately, it sounds too much like a generic campfire tale. It does make me want to see more though, and the ending left me unsettled but satisfied, which is just what this sort of story should do.

The Grammar Nazi that I am, I believe that you should all have me as your editor. D<
'Specially Queen.

Grammar and spelling aside, it is thus:
Monk: I believe that this is the most likely occurrence of all three. With so many accidents (one, on average, every sixty seconds in the US alone), and 30% by teenagers and 15% by drunk drivers, 60% of which have at least one fatality, it stands to reason that it's the best every day thing to happen. However, I don't like the unrealistic behavior of the couple. She wouldn't be able to move at all with compound fractures of her ribs in addition to all her other injuries, concussive trauma notwithstanding. Although it's possible he could be conscious, it would only be after hospitalization due to excessive head trauma and "having the wind knocked from him". If the wreck was less dramatic, it would have been better to add to realism.

Queen: Interesting look on a very odd--but predictable--story. Perhaps it was because I could predict what was going on that I didn't like it. It wasn't that the story was cliche` or that your foreshadowing was terrible; no, both were fine. It's just that I've read a few manga in my time, and that story is nearly perfectly in line with a couple of them, though I cannot remember their names. Mostly reverse-harem type-deals. It's a solid story, but I was unsure of whom the "gray-eyed man" was. I guess because I never read an explanation of the first's eyes or the youngest's eyes. :/ Oh well.

Zetsu: By far the most interesting ending of all three; it definitely makes me want more. And with the shortness of yours compared to the other two, it can definitely use more. Also, glue won't fix a broken mirror. xD I don't really have much to say other than that (and your grammatical errors), because I don't know if the mirror was broken physically or metaphysically, or if the girl was colorblind, or what. I think the story has room to grow and that it should. It sounds more like the beginning of a short story, not the story itself. Cliffhangers are not cool. D<

1: 7/10 - lack of realism, but very good situation for the parameters.
2: 6/10 - can't get past the predictability or the grammatical and spelling errors. Length and description, however, are saving graces.
3: 5/10 - boo cliffhangers and unexplained phenomena. Hooray beer! Too short; would like to see more.
