Kyil gently took the baby into his arms and peered down at her small black face. For a few moments he was utterly stunned. "So small." He whispered softly while peering into her pinkish eyes. "She is so... The words fail me." He finally whispered even as the little one in his arms finished sucking on the bottle and yawned. Such a big yawn! Her entire face scrunched up in a way that was..adorably funny. Kyil's lips curled upwards in a amused smile. He glanced up as Mikaril would comment on the color of her eyes, and he would return. "She looks like she has your nose though...you can definitely see hints of you in her."

Kyil shifted a bit into that gentle touch on his shoulder and closed his eyes for a moment. "I am thirsty...some water would be good. Maybe some cool tea. My throat is a bit raw from earlier. Just..not that special tea that Ssussun keeps slipping me. I am weary enough to sleep without it." Kyil's eyes opened and he glanced with a faint smile at the hovering female.

Ssussun spread her hands in a wordless gesture that could have been an admission of guilt. Though the smile on her face was hardly one that was sorry. "You were not getting enough rest. I know the signs. And hush now. You knew what I was giving you every time." She gently scolded Kyil. Ssussun leaned back against the wall of the wagon, so Mikaril would have room to move about and get Kyil his drink. She assumed he had to have something to do. He had felt so helpless up to this point after all. As he would go, Ssussun glanced down at the baby girl.

"So...what are you two going to name her?"

Kyil's awed words had Mikaril looking all over again at the little being in his friend's arms. She WAS small; however did they survive to become adults when they were born so small and helpless? Many creatures of the Underdark were born as such, but they had parents to protect them; he seriously doubted that more than a handful of matron mothers were maternal enough to protect them. The key always seemed to be toughness; survive and you had it in you all along, die and you were too weak to live anyway. He felt a surge of relief that this one tiny being with the perfectface should be born to the two of them, who would raise her as best they could and give her as much love as she could handle.

Mikaril almost leaped away from the bed in his haste to pour Kyil some chilled water. He found a few flakes of mint to sprinkle into it, figuring it would add flavor and make it seem all the more cool with the minty taste. He raised his eyebrows at the banter about the tea, but he had come to trust Ssu more in the passing days, and he had had vague suspicions that some of Kyil's naps were a bit too deep to be entirely natural. But he had felt the same effects of the sleep-inducing teas since she had done likewise to him when they had first come aboard, and he knew that his friend would come to no harm with them. But now that Kyil seemed to be able to sleep without, he would make sure that his wish was granted. After all, tea or no tea, he felt that natural sleep was easily the best.

He was returning to Kyil's side with the drink when he heard Ssu's question. He pondered as he carefully handed his friend the cool water. How could it have not occured to him yet? Of course the child had to have a name, but he had been so concerned for Kyil for the past several months; they hadn't even discussed possible names. He felt a sudden chill as he realized that one of the reasons might have been that deep down inside, they hadn't expected the child to survive. But here she was; strong, healthy, ready to be given a name and ready to live a life full of love and alternative teachings. Mikaril had known so few females.....his mind was at a complete blank. Moving very carefully so not to jar Kyil or the baby, Mikaril sat down beside Kyil and joined him in looking down at the tiny life wrapped in the bundle.
"I.....haven't given a thought to a name. Do you have any ideas, Kyil?"

Ssussun watched with a mixture of amusement and seriousness on her face. She was doing her best not to appear too amused by the way the males were acting. But it was terribly hard with how they both kept looking at that baby. Well, she was cute enough she supposed. As far as babies go, she looked a little squished to her. Perhaps from being inside Kyil's belly for so long? Clearing her throat, Ssussun shifted back a few steps and began to inspect the drawer that was to be the baby's bassinet when the two males slept. of course... Ssussun shot a glance back at them. Mikaril might want to let Kyil sleep alone for a while. As he recovered from these ordeals. her eyes darted towards her own bed and her features flushed. Maybe she could coax Mikaril to share her bed...with the promise not to do anything more then that? Unless she could manage to coax him otherwise. Now that Kyil was out of danger surely he'd feel more relaxed?

Kyil shifted his arms around the baby so he could better look at her. "I..I don't know. I never thought..." He never thought he'd survive. He had not thought he'd live long enough to do this. To look into the eyes of the child he had grown or watch as it greedily took in it's first meal by means of a bottle. Or see it's little fists flexing and rubbing at it's face in clear tiredness. Had the birthing process been as hard for the baby as it had been for him? It had to be. The poor tiny thing.

Kyil glanced up as Mikaril returned with the drink of water he had requested. He shifted his arm to better cradle the baby and reached with a shaking hand to take the drink. Placing it to his lips, he felt like he was mirroring the baby in sucking down the liquid. His throat burned with the coldness touching it, then quickly was soothed. A name...a name... She had to have one. Kyil swallowed the last drop from the cup, then set the empty thing down on his now amazingly flat belly.

"I..do not know how to name a child. Perhaps..Mikka?" He asked uncertainly as he looked at Mikaril. Naming the child after Mikaril sounded like a good idea. "I mean...you are...her father. Right?"

Hering Ssu clear her throat in spite of the happy buzzing in his ears, Mikaril spared a quick glance in her direction, thinking that she was wanting to say something to him. Instead he watched her as she walked toward the drawer, the one he recognized as the one they had decided would be the baby's makeshift bed. He hoped that the walls would be high enough so that she wouldn't accidentally fall out. He recalled a few times he had fallen out of bed, and the thought of such a tiny thing falling even a short distance like that pulled on him in a hurtful way. He suddenly realized that with the young one asleep in the drawer, Kyil would be able to sleep more soundly without fear of rolling over onto her. He wanted to be by his friend's side, but what if he nudged him in his sleep and hurt him as he was trying to heal? He cast a furtive glance at Ssu; he would bet that she would all but outright ask him to sleep with her, but was he strong enough to handle something like that, even if he knew, or at least trusted himself enough to know, that the female in question likely wouldn't try anything?

Mikaril bit his lip hard as he let Kyil's words hang in the air. So Kyil had thought the same thing; that he might not survive long enough to worry about naming the child. After all their preparation and encouragement, he still had worried. Poor Kyil! He waited until his friend had finished the drink before reaching out to remove the glass, still unwilling to take his eyes off of the tiny little face, rubbing sleepy eyes with her fists, which already sported little fingernails......perhaps they ought to fashion a little pair of mittens so that she wouldn't accidentally scratch her eyes or anyplace else.

Mikaril wrinkled his nose at the suggested name.
"No, not that; Hael-......" He didn't go any further, but just stood there in embarassed silence. Mika, the name that Haellar had used to call him, in reminisce of the stone that was so easily cut into thin sheets and strips because of how weak it was. No, it wouldn't do to name her that, even though it was no fault of her own. Besides, he felt that she was more Kyil's than his; Kyil had carried her and nourished her and bore the pain of bringing her into the world. He ought to have his share of the name. "Hmm....maybe if we merged both of our names.....like Mikkyila?"

Ssussun tucked her fingers testing around the drawer to double check for any hard bits that could poke the baby, or loose corners that could flop dangerously onto the baby or expose a unfinished section of wood. From time to time her red eyes flickered over to glance at Mikaril, while completely unaware that his thoughts had mirrored her own in accordance to the sleeping arrangements. She wanted to ask him. But not while Kyil was awake and present. Something about his wary gaze always made her reconsider just how fast she wanted to move on Mikaril. She supposed that it was a good thing he was around though. She suspected that if she had not that extra deterrent she'd have probably scared Mikaril off by now. That was not what she wanted to do.

She watched him from the corner of her eyes. He was so concerned for Kyil. That odd rare affection was what drew her. She wanted to wrap her arms around it and feel the warmth she imagined it gave off. Any other female would see a prime tool right here. She knew that the best way to get on Mikaril's good side was through Kyil...so it was not beneath her to take care of the weaker male just to gain Mikaril's favor. Weird... It should have been the other way around shouldn't it? Ssussun's lips curled upwards and she shook her head in amusement at her thoughts. What -would- her mother think? Perhaps she'd ask her sometime for some advice about the males she'd taken in. She needed to focus on ensuring that she did not lose them now. The baby was born, and in a short period of time Kyil would be able to move around again without fear of harm to himself.

As Ssussun entertained her thoughts and fussed about with the babies bedding, Kyil laid easily in the bed. Oh! The new bedding definitely felt more comfortable to him now! Or perhaps it was the lack of weight on his hips and back as he laid? The baby did not feel half as heavy as his belly had. Where had all that weight gone? Was he going to have stretch marks? Kyil was half tempted to inspect his belly, but at the moment he was caught up in holding the squirming child. Was she tired? Hungry? Uncomfortable? Too hot or cold? Kyil glanced up as Mikaril would disagree with his suggested name. Merely hearing Haellara's name spoken gave him some understanding. "All right then. Not that." Mikaril did not have to explain any further then that. Kyil glanced down at the child and tried to think of a different name. "Choosing a name is hard... no wonder the females tend to do it themselves." Kyil murmured as the little one yawned. Yes. She was definitely tired. Her pink eyes were closed now, and he could imagine he knew how heavy those lids must be.

"Mikkyila?" He murmured slowly at the suggestion that Mikaril made. It was..."It's very pretty..." He mused softly. From beside them, Ssussun made a soft clicking sound with her tongue.

"It is a lovely name, if you've settled on it though, I'll take the baby and put it in it's bed. Kyil you need to sleep as well. Your eyes are barely staying open." She fussed over them and held her hands out for the child. Kyil's arms tightened for a moment. He did not want to hand the baby over yet... she was right. He was exhausted and he wanted to sleep. Kyil glanced up at Mikaril for a moment, his tired lips parted into a small grin.

"Yes. I like the name. We will call her Mikkyila then." He agreed before relinquishing the babe over to the waiting arms of Ssussun. "Will she be okay in that bedding? I mean..she won't fall out or anything?"

Ssussun shook her head a little and reassured Kyil with a faint smile. "The drawer is deep, so she won't roll out. We won't be traveling so there need be no worries about being jostled out. So long as neither of you close the drawer with her in it she will be completely safe...though even then it's deep enough that she won't get pinched. The drawer will serve for the next few months as a good bed for her. Once she get's bigger I'll see about getting her a trunk to sleep in."

"Mikkyila...." Mikaril liked the way it sounded, even if it was merely his and Kyil's names strung together. What better to name a living, breathing representation of his and Kyil's devotion to each other, despite the fact that the result wasn't quite like the love they really had? What mattered now was that she was here, she was healthy, and now she was named. It was as though everything they had both been through in the past months had suddenly come to a head, and now the initial pressure was off and they had but to ensure that she lived to enjoy her life as best she could in the harsh and dangerous Underdark.

He found himself pondering then just what they would be doing next. Of course they had to stay to ensure that Kyil healed completely, and for a good while little Mikkyila would need much looking after, and the wagon was as safe a place as any from the Wilds, but now they had a young one to consider along with their previous plans of forming a thieves gang and making Eryndlyn the hub of their operations. And then there was Ssu to consider. Mikaril was pretty sure that Ssu would really dislike their leaving, and he couldn't deny that he had felt safe with her, to a degree that he had never felt before. He believed her when she said that she would not hurt him, but he saw her at times looking at him, and he saw the hunger in her eyes. Not malicious hunger, but the obvious and incontestible desire to have him, to hold him, to take him. The thought always made him shiver, remembering how close it had been time after time, and he couldn't help but feel that if he tried, he might picture Ssu as Hael and react accordingly. She wouldn't be pleased, and if he should find himself lashing out......at the very least he would be frightened, and Ssu wouldn't understand why and be displeased. She was probably already wondering why he was not responding in kind to her attentions; how would he be able to tell her? Doubtless she would think him moronic for dwelling so much on a female halfway across the Underdark.

He turned suddenly at Ssu's clicking and watched as she took the baby and remarked to kyil that he had best sleep before he nodded off on his own. He smiled back at Kyil and nodded. "You probably should; you've had a trying day, and you'll feel so much better once you've rested." He raised his eyebrows at Ssu; as though any of them would shut Mikkyila up in a drawer! He didn't think now that he could ever forget that he had a daughter; a child to raise and watch over and teach. What exactly WOULD he teach her? He had never had to teach anyone except Kyil, and he still felt color creep into his cheeks whenever he thought of the incident with the trick box. If he was to teach Mikkyila anything at all, he was going to have to get a lot better with his teaching techniques.

He smiled down at Kyil and watched him relax. He would remian here in sight for as long as he could, and then......he didn't know what. Perhaps Ssu would find him something to do, though he hoped it wouldn't be something that involved him going out to mingle with the other circus folk; doubtless the healer and the scene outside would have prompted some loose tongues, and they might seek to pry information from him about what had just gone on in the fire-dancer's wagon.

Despite his desire to protest, Kyil nodded his head slightly and laid it back. As he closed his eyes, he murmured in soft protest. "I would never close a baby in a drawer. Do not worry of that Miss Ssussun." He laid a hand over his now flattened belly and exhaled slowly. It felt good to rest now, and with the baby near he had no worries as to her safety.

Ssussun gently tucked the baby in it's bed and ensured it was comfortable enough on it's belly. She tilted her head a little and lightly draped a blanket over it's bottom half. "She'll need proper cloths soon. I'll see what I can find around here." She had given no thought to what the baby would wear. Honestly, she had been expecting a boy. Her lips quirked as she looked at the blue color of the lining. Oh well, there were worse things to be wrong about right?

Ssussun turned and gave a nod of approval as Kyil seemed to settle in to sleep. Ssussun turned her gaze to Mikaril then and she drew herself up a bit taller. With a deliberate movement to her steps, she shifted over to attempt and take Mikaril by the arm. "We must talk. Come to the front of the wagon so we will not disturb Kyils rest."
PostPosted: Sun Mar 14, 2010 6:18 pm

Mikaril found himself pausing for thought as he watched Kyil drift off to sleep and heard Ssussun's thoughts on clothes. Once again it was something he hadn't spared a single solitary thought for. He turned to Ssu, looking almost meek as he remembered her reaction the last time had suggested something like this. "I could probably steal some for her; not from the circus," he was quick to add, "But I'm sure I could find a shop in Eryndlyn that sells clothes made just for small babies. At the very least, I can find some cuts of soft clean cloth and we can try making some. I haven't had much experience with making clothes, but I've mended things before, and how different can it really be?" He fell back into thought as he pictured himself making all sorts of dainty little clothes for the girl; frills and lace and tiny gems, fit for a princess. Or the daughter of an exceptionally good thief.

He blinked and started as he felt Ssu grab his arm and start to pull him toward the front of the wagon. He waited until they were farther away from Kyil before he began to quietly protest.
"Hey, wait, listen; I'm sorry about what happened earlier; I didn't mean to sound so ill-mannered and out of your control. I promise it won't happen again. I was just so scared for Kyil; I'll try harder to act more like a male in front of the other circus performers if that's what you want; you don't have to do anything; I really am sorry." He resisted the urge to pull away, knowing that Ssu would just grip harder, and really, where would he go? He was just going to have to face it and take his punishment; he could only hope that whatever it was, it would be lenient. After all, she did seem to really like him.

Ssussun nodded her head at Mikaril's suggestion. "Stealing the cloths would probably be easiest. Making cloths is no easy feat, but I'm not going to stop you from trying. Learning how to tailor is actually a really useful skill, particularly when one lives and grows in a circus." She hesitated after her words. She supposed she was assuming much, but it -was- her place to assume right? "I mean, she'll have to fit in around here, but not so much that she's thought to be one of the orphans we've taken in. She is from my wagon after all, so she'll have to be a little special I think."

Ssussun looked down at Mikaril as he began to grow worried. He was easily scared...something she had noted over the course of their travels. Obviously their little scene outside had gotten to him for him to jump directly to that. Ssussun glanced over at Kyil and then to the door before she looked back down on him. "That's done and over Mikaril. Everyone saw me punish you already so there is no need to bring that up. Really. What do you think I am going to do? Whip you with my ribbons? I'm pretty sure they'd tickle you more then anything." She paused and tilted her head to one side as a faint smile pulled at her lips. "Though that does have a amusing promise to it. I wonder what you'd look like with my ribbons draped all over you." She shook her head in an attempt to clear the amusing image from her head.

"No..what I meant to discuss with you is the sleeping arrangements. Kyil needs to rest comfortably, and the two of you together in that bed is not bound to be such. Not until he's recovered from this. So..." Ssu lifted her hand to touch the edge of her folded up bed. "I want you to share my bed with me. At least until Kyil is able to get up and move around on his own."
PostPosted: Sun Mar 14, 2010 7:13 pm

Mikaril found himself slowly ceasing to panic as Ssu would joke about beathing him with ribbons. He had to admit, it did sound pretty silly, even if it was done by Haellara. As a matter of fact, just the thought of his sister trying to flog him with harmless ribbons brought a smile to his face. He imagined himself draped with ribbons like some decoration, and he amost smiled enough to show his teeth, until an unbidden image of Haellara setting him on fire and him going out in a colorful blaze stole it away.

He nodded a little and looked sadly in Kyil's direction.
"I did think of that.... I want him to be as comfortable as possible, but....I had hoped that somehow I could stay with him. He's always found my presence comforting, and I've always in turn liked his, but I do know that if I should move around in the night and accidentally make him hurt, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself." He found himself turning a bit red and wide-eyed as Ssu mentioned sharing her bed with him. Granted, there probably wasn't anything he could do to her in her sleep, but what about the things she could do to HIM? He already knew that she liked him more than a little; how would he be sure that the instant he fell asleep, she would succumb to those feelings and he would find himself jolted awake and unable to stop what had been started? The thought brought an acidic taste in his mouth, as well as a pang of shame; how could he think such things of the female who had been so kind to him and Kyil? She had withheld herself so far, but how would that hold up against actually sharing a bed as though he were already taken?

"Well...." he heard himself stammering in a less than confident voice. "I....I suppose....but is there.....enough room?" He knew that was a sad sorry reply; she obviously wouldn't offer if she didn't think there was room. But still, he felt himself wary at the very least of the thought of strong female arms holding him fast, with him unable to break free if he felt overwhelmed.

At least he understood and agreed with her reasoning. The fact he accepted her view on this should have made it far easier to get him into her bedding. Ssussun had even hoped that the flicker of amusement he had shown was a positive sign that she was wearing down his protective walls. Once she had broken through he'd be hers. There was no doubt of that in her mind! But Goddess it was such slow going! If only she could have been more assertive like most females. She could have demanded his services in return for tending to Kyil. Surely if she had broken through to him that way she wouldn't be standing here fighting off a nervous fidget like it was her first day in temple!

But then he got that...that look on his face. The one that made her think of glass about to shatter if she touched it wrong. Ssussun fought the urge to reach out and stroke his hair. It was always so tempting to touch him when he looked so vulnerable! Instead, she shifted a step closer to the stuttering male. "I am positive there will be. I made certain to let the carpenter know I wanted it big enough for two when he crafted it. Of course...it would probably be roomier if we wore very little cloths under the covers. You know..for comforts sake..."
PostPosted: Sun Mar 14, 2010 8:09 pm

If Mikaril had known just how inwardly frustrated at how slow the process of her winning him over was going, he probably would have been terrified and succumbed to her every whim like a beast intent on showing its mistress that it was worth keeping around. But luckily for him, he was unaware, although he did inwardly marvel at the depth of Ssu's understanding and her obvious unwillingness to just outright pull him under the covers and take him, with or without his consent and cooperation. He was inwardly thinking the same thing as Ssu; how easy would it be for her to just grab him and guilt him into spending some time in bed with her by reminding him that were it not for her, Kyil might be back in the cave, dying in a pool of birth blood.

"Oh...y-you did." Well there went his lame-as-a-three-footed-riding-lizard excuse. He might as well have said nothing at all and saved himself the foolishness. What would she think of him now; that he was using excuses to try and keep himself from being in the same bed with her? Well, it wasn't as though he had made it a secret how unsure he was around females in general, especially her. She was so kind to him......if she had wanted to ask about just why he was so timid and unwilling to be touched so by a female, he might just hold her sor support and pour his guts out, just like he had sone last time. But of course, that would be foolish. She wouldn't want to know about his troubles, just how to fix them so that she could enjoy him. He saw how she had reacted when he had been foolish enough to think that she was truly and purely in love with him.

HIs tension only rose at her suggestion of little clothing.
"But...I...." The thought of sleeping in her bed was unnerving enough, but to take away his one preotective covering, meager as it was, was just plain terrifying! "Can I.....still have an undergarment, at least? I've never been one for sleeping in the nude; it seems so vulnerable." There, he had said it. At least now if she responded with something akin to 'That's the whole idea!", then he had true cause to be worried.

Ssussun watched the flicker of emotions. Terror. yes. That was pure terror in his eyes. How could she miss it? Goddess! She was the least terrifying female here she was sure! What exactly had he been put through to look at her so? It made some sort of strange angry heat rising from her chest. Though she was not sure what it's true cause was. Ssussun forced herself to exhale slowly as Mikaril stumbled over another reply.

Ah. Silly male. She was tempted to lean in and kiss him again. Show him she was not going to tear him apart in her desire for him. No pain or blood or torment laid within her lips and arms! Instead though she turned her eyes to the folded up bed. She smiled faintly, and with little humor in her eyes as Mikaril would be but a note away from pleading with her to keep his undergarments on.

"I would prefer that." She gave him that at least. "Feeling so vulnerable is not good for resting purposes. I merely meant that you should probably shed your outer cloths. Sleeping in something stiff and heavy would not be comfortable to me. Don't worry Ril." Ssussun turned to flash a smile at the frightened male. "I'm not going to ravage you with a baby in the wagon! I have some decency you know!"
PostPosted: Sun Mar 14, 2010 10:17 pm

Mikaril felt a sigh of relief escape his lips. At least she didn't seem worried about his insistence to keep his undergarments on; rather she seemed to expect it, even prefer it. At least that seemed to not indicate that she enjoyed the vulnerability game. Still, he couldn't help but wonder at what changes would come over them if she ever did try something with him. From the very beginning she had been a source of hope, then an unexpected ally, then a friend that he looked upon with fondness and was happy to surprise with his thieving talents; he knew what was to come next, but the change was so drastically different from the others.....How long would he last if it ever came to that?

He found himself smiling back, more geuninely this time.
"Well it isn't as though I sleep in my armor; not anymore, at any rate. I usually just sleep in the black underclothes, but I suppose if you want....I can forego the shirt." He had a fleeting image of himself pulling his pants up as high as they would go to cover his stomach. Well, he could always sleep on his side. He found his cheeks flushing red at the mention of Ssu having decency; it made him feel foolish for thinking such things of her. Well, it was hardly his fault that females were so hard to read and predict. He often saw the look in her eyes, as plain as the nose on her face; she wanted him, and yet she controlled herself; something he had never seen any other female doing. He wasn't sure if the change was more or less unsettling than the norm.

"Well...." he finally ventured, "I guess we don't really have any alternative. It isn't as though there weould be room in here for me to sleep on the floor, and I want Kyil to get as much restful sleep as he can." He refrained from adding that he would rather it was him losing sleep than Kyil; doubtless he would spend the first few ngihts at least lying awake and on the alert for any suspicious movements.

Ssussun had to bite the tip of her tongue to keep from smiling too eagerly. "I'll tell you what. If you go to bed with no shirt on, I promise to go to bed with one on. Deal?" Now..she just wanted it to be time to go to bed! Being able to get Mikaril to agree to this much was so thrilling! She had to be making progress in claiming him now! All she needed to do was get him to open up a bit. Hmm...well...maybe she could manage that now?

"It would be very wise for you to rest as much as you can. And the sooner Kyil recovers the better. Now that we've gotten the pleasant business taken care of..." Ssussun turned and tugged one of the cushion topped trunks out a bit so she could sit upon the edge. With one hand she gently patted the remainder of the cushion beside her.

"Now we need to talk about something perhaps a bit more hard for you. We're only going to be here for about two weeks. As I'm sure you've learned is our trend. Our next destination is Undrek' Thoz. Now...as I recall that was a place you were worried about me taking you to when I first kidnapped you and Kyil, right? I need to know why and what to prepare for if need be."
